Hi Tom was gifted one of these ages ago and yesterday decided to see if it still worked and took it along to a local repair shop. As soon as he switched it on it ceremonially blew up pieces flaying everywhere!!! Hit me but I wasn’t hurt. All it needed was a new spool and cover! Got that sorted all I need now is the rain to stop!!😂
Hi RF. Yes mine will do that too if the spool and plastic 'thread' isn't loaded exactly right or if the thread is a fraction too long and hits plastic. It will blow up. It requires a bit of patience. I often have to rethread mine several times during an hour long cut. It does work but care is needed. But is was dead cheap so I can't complain.....too much lol Yes we are having so much rain/overcast here too. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
@@TomMcClean thanks for the reply yes I was told it had the wrong spool hence the explosion! Rain is delaying play so haven’t tested it out as of yet! Glad we aren’t suffering like the rest of mainland Europe so can’t complain as we are grateful for the rain! The strimmer I use at the moment is back breaking with the tiniest thread and. How ever hard I pull it - it seems the get stuck so a lot of hard work for nothing!! I will let you know how I get on when the rain drys up cheers from Northampton Middle England 👍🏼
Great instructive video. I've never used one before and the first thing that happened (this morning) was the cord snapped and whizzed off into my calf, while wearing shorts! Wish I'd watched this first! Thanks Tom.
Hi Dazarene. This will happen a dozen times to me when I'm strimming. You have to have the plastic cord on coerrectly and the cap placed fully down but it still happens now and again. You don't want to lose that plastic cap in any long grass!!!!! You will get the hang of it but it is a pain! Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Looks good Tom.i had one but it ended up in the middle Of the road.kept breaking the wire hitting of my metal fence.so I bought hand shears from Lidl to do the job instead.
Yes I too have had strimmers and the bits have flown off at speed Andy. This is a wee cheapie and i'm not going to use it much and I'm going to be extra careful using it. ....... (fine words! lol )
Many thanks for your kind post Laura. If you have only a small grass verge or even lawn these wee cheap and cheerful trimmers will do the job. Best wishes from Belfast Northern Ireland
Qualacast no longer in business 😢 if you want cheap and cheerful a company called mcgregor I’s good the rating label is in dark green like the qaulacast ones were and also the blades are made by alm manufacturing which makes me think qaulacast changed their name too mc Gregor
Hi Christian, I didn't know this about Qualcast. Thanks for letting me know about the McGregor company. I'll check it out. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland.
@@TomMcClean your welcome in Bristol they used too stock qualacast in Argos and Homebase which we no longer have Homebase as they’ve dissolved and noticed the name change on the lawnmowers when I couldn’t find qualacast anywhere my favourite company too buy products from mc Gregor is defiantly worth the money it’s coming upto 4 years and the mower I brought is still going strong
@@TomMcClean Same for us, i've just looked at buying a strimmer to replace our black and decker basic strimmer which cost £2 at car boot 10years ago lol and it gave up the ghost last week. good value haha. but looking at Bosch, flymo, black and decker single feed line, auto feed, twin feed, fancy stuff like adjustable handles, pivoting heads, edge rollers etc, no matter what i look at there are still too many negative reviews amongst the positive putting me off, so going back to basic, im looking at this cheap simple strimmer, currently just £24 on Argos, it might be bottom of the list but when i just gets used once a month to trim the edges before i use the lawn mover, i've realised i just don't need to spend more for the fancy stuff that costs 2 or 3 times more.
Wow that wee car boot buy was a great bargain UF! I agree i'm sticking with cheap and cheerful. If it breaks down after a few years no worries. Buy another. The more expensive ones do break down too and when that happens who you going to get to fix them if they are out or warranty? so a cheapies it is! lol Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
I bought one to get to that close wall trims and it does not do the job at all! If you get right up to the wall the line breaks, and if you don't, well theres as much grass as you have in the video beside the wall. Shame yku didn't show that
Yes Andromeda. I do have problems with the line breaking but you get what you pay for. It is dead cheap. I put in a stronger line and keep it away from walls and it works well. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills N Ireland

Hi again Christian. We still have Homebase here. 4 years!!! You got your money's worth! Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Bump feed are rubbish. Get an Automatic feed one. Bit dearer but worth it.
Yes I hear what you are saying John and would agree with you normally but I only need theis wee striimer for a small amount of trimming each month.
