- There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the new RaceRoom graphics update this week, so I thought I’d check it out by jumping straight into this Mazda MX-5 Cup online race at Portimao, where I’ll be starting from P5 on a grid of 20.
The all-new RaceRoom looks brighter, more colourful and FAR more vibrant. But what will the racing be like? Let’s find out…

The Mazda always delivers, it makes for some of the best racing! Great battle at the end!
Yeah you can’t go wrong with the Mazda! The RaceRoom collision model is really generous too, which allows a bit of door banging without it being race-ending too. I’ve always liked that.

What a great battle chris, watching your race craft develop over the years is simply great! Not long ago you used to yield your position to people you thought were faster than you, and now you have a door banging head to head battle here that has me standing on my seat. Awesome mate 👍🏻

always great to see both you and ben on raceroom again. unlucky not getting a podium. i tried raceroom again after a long while and agree the graphics are much better. it looked a bit flat before and now looks more natural. i just hope that development will happen at a brisker pace now and hopefully attract more people back to online racing. glad you have recovered from your ear problem
Thanks Hal. Yeah I was quite surprised how much of a difference it made. I was expecting it to be optimised for their newer tracks, but that the old and dated tracks would still look a bit washed out. But fair play to them, it looks great.

Yeah this race took me back to the good old days of 2020-21 when RaceRoom was my No.1 sim as well. It’d be great if these increased grid sizes can be maintained 🤞

Great race, so close to a podium. Never tried RR but looks like I might have to give it a whirl.
Now would be a good time, as there are a few more drivers online. The ranked servers before were often a ghost town. Hopefully this new update will keep the numbers up 🤞

Being such an older game with an older graphics/game engine i am sure it will not be ground breaking and most likely to be the the best we can hope for or offer in terms of an upgrade in quality from the developers. look forward to trying the sim after a few years since i played last.
Yeah I think they’ve done a decent job on it, considering its age. And the racing/collision physics are still very fun!

Yeah, the grids were looking a bit more full. I’m sure it’s mainly because of people having a curious look to see the new RaceRoom graphics, but hopefully a few of them will hang around!

Nice racing Chris! AC's MX5 Cup is my most favorite car in simracing, but i never tried it in RR. I just installed the game again yesterday, so i'll try it on the test track in the weekend, looks promising.
Yeah it’s one of my favourites too, always reliable for good racing. It’s a perfect car for RaceRoom’s relaxed collision physics… really allows for close racing. Enjoy 😃

When I opened Steam I had a massive upgrade for RaceRoom and I was wondering what it involved.
Yeah it was a hefty update! Worth downloading though, I think it looks really nice now. Enjoy!

Looking good that improvement in Raceroom. Will set up my rig later today to try the new DTM (old) Opel Calibra.

Yeah I love the new seat! So much more solid and stable. Plus, it’s way easier now to hop into a race, whenever I have a free opportunity 😃 I haven’t bought the new DTM 95 pack yet, but the other classics in RaceRoom are great
@@chrisrogerssimracing Can imagine. Sounds like a good investment. I often have my pedals sliding. Then again I get to race sitting in a chesterfield type chair in racing green.
Only testdriving the DTM first. Not a real fan of 4wd. I do like the Mercedes and that’s already available.
Great vid like always C.R since the update inhave no in-game sound just crewchief do you have idea of how I can fix this or if anyone here can help it would appreciated 100% mine looks great but no sounds..
That’s strange. Maybe check the audio input settings. I’ve had a similar issue on iRacing before, where the game switched to ‘headphone audio input’ even though I didn’t have any plugged in. Which made the game sounds disappear. I just had to go to the audio settings to switch input back to my monitor/speakers. Also worth doing the same checks in your Windows sound settings too. Good luck 🤞
Great racing. But is the FFB still mushy? I found it really strange when I tried it a few years ago
I’ve always got on really well with the RaceRoom FFB. It’s probably because it was my first sim, and I spent all of my sim racing time on it in the early days. So it’s what I learned on. It always feels like a comfy pair of slippers when I go back to it 🤣
There was a big redesign of the RR FFB physics, operation and adjustment menus about 2 years ago. The difference is night and day. Much better now.
If they could give AMD GPU owners a nice easy way to set triples now I'd give it another go. I have about a hundred bucks of unused content because I just can't be arsed trying to suss out their display since switching from an aging Nvidia card to a new Radeon.
Yeah that’s a pain. I don’t realise there were such issues for triple screen setups and other graphics cards.
@chrisrogerssimracing Yes, it can be a royal PITA unfortunately.
This is 2024, Sim racing is somewhere it could never of dreamed of being, And they spent time updating the graphics but couldn't be arsed to sort out the use of triple screen without Nvidia surround or Eyefinity, Many of the players they are trying to attract are on triples, I don't get it, But that's me out, And I won't be the only one.
Have you tried a graphics configuration manager like DisplayMagician (which is free and open source)? It allows you to switch between different configurations (e.g., having Surround/Eyefinity enabled or disabled) with the press of a button.
Ahh that’s a real bummer. Sorry you can’t get to try it. I have no such issues with my basic single screen setup.
