I found that the main thing that annoys me and doesn't sound great with the GT3's are the gearbox sounds. It just doesn't sound like the gearboxes in any of the GT3's imo. So many other sims have gotten that right and it really makes a difference to me in immersion.

Hey James! Thanks for taking the time to do this review for us! In terms of us that main iRacing, a new McLaren GT3 was WAY overdue since we never got the 650S or even the first iteration of the 720S.
In terms of why the top speed could be down compared to your IRL footage, I could very much be wrong on this, but it could be due to the fact that the GT3s in iRacing uses the IMSA GTD/GTD Pro specifications for the GT3s and not the Fanatec GT SRO specifications that you may find on ACC. That could very well be the reason why the top speed could be down compared to IRL.

If that's the case, it should mean the car spins easily if you overdrive it. However, I've found that ACC spins much more easily when pushed beyond its limits. It's a great video, and I appreciate the transparency. I would love to know from your experience how those GT3 cars handle cornering and breaking to what I experience in iRacing. I sometimes feel the car grip does not respond even at low speeds, like 70kmps. I feel my sports car in real life turns more in some scenarios. The second question is breaking. If breaking hard in a gt3 car, with the presence of an ABS, the tires are not very exhausted, and when the speed is around 20kmps, the car still takes time to stop. I guess this is much on unrealistic issues from latency to limitations so that the simulator stays within limits. In my normal sports car, at 20kmps, if I press hard to break, the car stops near instantly.
I appreciate iRacing because it is so complex to simulate the physics while keeping the cars within their limits. For example, in real life, the car's top speed, acceleration, handling, and all road conditions should be maintained. This is why, while maintaining those limitations, something unrealistic happens.
The future of simulation will be a brand new engine completely based ON AI-no need to do any math.

Yep, given that the original AC has a more realistic model, for just one example, the problem has got to be in iRacing's approach. Overall, this issue with David Kaemmer's sims goes all the way back to the 1990s, actually. You can actually set this ingame in Sound, then "Ear Protection / Helmet Effect" and the microphone in-car also sound a bit "overwhelmed" by the sound. A lot of compression. You can also adjust that in Sound, right underneath the other one. Don't know if that latter one is replay only. Maybe. This might help.

As a sound designer, I think the onboard sound in iRacing sounding "off" comes down to the mixing. iRacing has always sounded a bit tinny and sterile to me, but I feel like the source material itself is quite accurate. Nailing the sounds in a racing sim is kind of a dark art, at the end of the day it comes down to preference and what "feels" right. Compared to iRacing, ACC's onboard sounds have more presence in the mid-to-low frequencies and seem to even have a bit of distortion added, making it sound more aggressive and weightier.

I'm kind of surprised you don't like rF2/LMU more. To me it's the most active feeling sim out there. I know some people don't like it or think it's over active. Also, people talk about it being drifty or unrealistic how it looks when you're turning in and the car twists into the corner. To me though that's how it feels in a real car when you're rolling on the sidewalls of the tires. You feel the car shift over probably 4 inches to the side, and it can look and feel like the car is twisting into the corner even though it's not actually losing grip. Someone who's not used to it would probably think you're actually losing traction when it's actually the car shifting side to side multiple inches each time you turn, that's what rF2/LMU simulate really well in my opinion.
There are some things you have to over exaggerate in sim racing, and some things you don't. For me the rF2/LMU engines exaggerate the right things to translate into getting in a real car and knowing what you're feeling.

It is so confusing. Recently one of Russian racers Aleksandr Smolyar had his GT3 experience in Merc in Russian Endurance Championship and did a video talking about how his experience was comparing to the sims. Simwise he actually play a lot more of ACC like you do or at least did in the past and he said that ACC is a lot more off and iRacing does almost a perfect job or replicating real life experience but he mostly focused on a footwork to drive a car with deep trail braking. As one of the cons of iRacing he mentioned that tires are overheating too fast. He also didn't mentioned this twitchiness of the car on the braking. As someone who tried most of the sims myself (but enjoy iRacing mostly) and also would never have an experience to drive GT3 car i would say that what you described with all that twitchiness, aggressiveness of the car and like possibility to overdrive the car it reminded me of my rFactor experience. For me it feels like where iRacing doesn't have like tire play, ACC has no suspension. Same time rFactor has both but it feels like too much of it. At moments it feels like you're driving on soft tire with a sidewall size of a truck tire. So would be interesting to hear is it really so much play in the rear and in the tires as well as what do you think about iRacing and ACC footwork-wise. Cause braking and getting on throttle in these sims feels so much different.

I've raced GT4 in real life, and I have thousands of hours in iRacing and ACC. This video is a VERY good demonstration of the SEVERE weaknesses of iRacing that the devs refuse to fix.
iRacing does some things well, but the things it does horribly can ruin a race in a flash. Tires do not go from 100 to 0 instantly from a little wheel spin, the tire slip physics are maybe the worst of any racing sim or game, cars are inherently stable, iRacing you can spin out at 10 MPH lol
The cars also seem far more on rails than other sims, and the issue with this to me is that once the cars are unstable (wheel spin, lock ups, oversteer, understeer), the cars have an entirely different set of physics that make them unpredictable and too random to catch often times.
Racecars are meant to be driven on the limit, and they feel good on the limit. iRacing feels unpredictable and bad on the limit.
By far the worst thing about iRacing though is the fanboys on the forums and in discussions that can't accept any criticism.

Don’t forget you were driving on your own during the wet test. In real life surely there were some other cars with you on track that changed the line as well.

It does sound more guttural in real life.. but let's be honest, I'm not gonna drive in IRL and iRacing has the best overall package ;)

Great video! Iracing always looks so over dampered. I think that caters to what drivers want, not what it actually is.
