While a Trap Card, you could say Raigeki Bottle is also a Raigeki retrain and a MUCH worse than Lightning Vortex. Also, as someone running almost only gimmick decks, I VERY often use Lightning Vortex over Raigeki because I'll be using it with card effects that activate when discarded (eg: The Fabled monsters) or that get stronger the fewer cards you have in hand, meaning I actually gain advantage (plus I play in older formats from 2012-2015 where Raigeki is banned because I fucking HATE how broken newer cards after that were, at most I'll play up to Spellbooks/Dragon Rulers).

Lightning Vortex is so damn underrated even before when Dark Hole was unbanned for the first time the card was ignored by many, but not me, always used it.
The problem with NEX and its targets could've been avoided so easily, too. Just change the first line of the Fusion Monsters to "This card's name becomes "(Main Deck equivalent)" while it is on the field or in the GY." and change the second line of "NEX's" text to "Special Summon 1 Level 4 monster whose name can become the tributed monster's name from your Extra Deck." or however that'd be worded with PSCT.
Eh, the last two barely qualify as retrains; they're additional cards that require the originals to function, appeared in the same anime series as the originals, and were very close in packs released too. Otherwise, great list haha
I totally did not think about that interaction! Thanks for that! I don't know if you play Neo-Spacians super frequently, but I was kind of bummed that TDL didn't even mention Marine Neos as a positive when Marine Dolphin popped up. It's kind of easy to forget about (especially since Twinkle Moss didn't get it's own Contact Fusion), but it destroys a random card in the opponent's hand once per turn (without the discard cost that Aqua Neos has) and is also the only Neos Contact Fusion that doesn't return to the Extra Deck during End Phase. Does that make Marine Dolphin a good card? Heavens no! But I think it also makes it more useful than Barrier Dragon. Especially since it can be cheated straight to the GY (without needing to run NEX) to go into Miracle Contact for a Marine Neos. Sadly, neither of the last 2 are actually retrains, though. They both actually appeared in GX.
Lightning vortex shouldnt be anywhere near this list. It was heavily used when it was released as raigeki was banned. it was still one of the best available field wipe cards
In fairness to Cyber Barrier Dragon, if you summon it via "Born from Draconis", that ignores its summoning conditions AND its wonky statline but keeps its somewhat useful stalling effect, it can be kinda good

Wouldn’t raigeki’s retrain be that “flash of the forbidden spell” one from Cyberdark Impact? That is a destroy all effect and not just a destroy all face-up, like Lightning Vortex. And, an opponent controlling 5 monsters is a much harder condition to meet than just a discard.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Fishborg archer does not require a discard in order to revive itself, just that all other monsters in your graveyard are water, it’s actually super useful as a piece in water combo decks because it’s easy to find(needlefiber) and is a really great extender
@DuelLogs Komoney seems to have finally given up on the censorship of cards, which I think is why they were okay with including both artworks in Monster Reborn Reborn. They are even in the process of slowly releasing the original artworks of cards via the Lost Art Promos.

Yeah...3 ancient gears including a specific one that cannot be cheated out+fusion spell all to get a beatstick that floats into another beatstick, and on top of this all has no protection and even in the past was usually taken out as soon as it got out by chimeratech(using it as fusion material even, thus missing the timing?)

Fusion Trish is the only card in this list that sees competitive play right now. And in a tier 1 (maybe) deck nonetheless. The 2 dragon link lists running fusion Trish topped the latest LCS. Meaning, it shouldn't be on this list!

rad video as usual! i know your vids are normally about strategic uses of cards, but i'd like to see a top 10 list of cards that were once rare but aren't anymore (such as the five pieces of exodia, which were ultra rare when first released, but common when reprinted for later sets). or another way to go about it is top 10 cards that have been reprinted the most (like how there is a blue eyes in the kaiba starter deck, LOB set, included in an issue of shonen jump, etc. different card art but you get what i mean)
I LOVE Injection Fairy Lily, my favorite card EVER! So I do love her retrain Counselor Lily, but do wish they had made a level 6 Synchro monster for these two to use together. Iike she would hage 2400 atk and pay 1000 life for her to gain 2000 for 4400 or something like that? 🤔
Top 10 Worst Levels/Ranks I realized that aside from Level 4 having a toolbox, Level 3 having Earth and Rock support, low levels being great for tuners, Rank 10 being about Trains, etc - for a casual viewer, what were the least supported, least represented monster levels? I say worst, because Level 4 would probably be a runaway success and everyone more experienced would probably be sick to death of all the toolbox options. Or maybe a Top 10 Level 6 monsters video, I don't seem to see many of those.
I personally like the TCG version of Monster Reborn. The ankh is more symbolic for the pharaoh, but I like the emblazoned cross-like pattern that it has. It really does look like a catalyst you’d use to resurrect a monster with.
I really liked this list. It gave me some ideas of tech options as a budget player. I think another video you could do would be Top 10 Insect monsters and support cards.
Yeah, the ruling of only being allowed a combined total of 3 marine and aqua dolphins is not true. It was a previously official ruling under upper deck, but Konami has since ruled it unofficial
There is one potential strategy that you can use for Monster Reborn Reborn: Necroface: Get 3 in the GY, make your opponent revive one and it’ll banish 20 cards from both decks. This will power up monsters that use the banishment zone
About The trishula retrain: you gotta think long term with that card. Of course it has a hard once per turn. What if sometime in the future the games gets to a power crept point where you could fusion summon that monster 15 times. That’s a full extra deck wipe right there. Konami is just being extra careful.
Idea for a video: top 5 good & bad decks that came out in the same set. Two examples would be Zoodiac/Shinob (Both came out in Raging Tempest0 Burning Abyss/U.A (Both came out in the TCG in Duelist Alliance) Love your videos and came up the great work :)
I see what you’re saying, but the main problem with that is not only do you have to jump through hoops for Marine Dolphin, you *then* have to figure out how the hell you’re gonna get a Neos on the field. You’ve most likely already used your normal summon that turn, so Neos Alius is a no-go.
No it just a bad card in general,it just better version of it already good effect but need a bad spell card "NEX" to fusion summon it. It way to slow and you have to minus 2 to summon which not worth all the effort and it stat just hot garbage, you can't even cheat it from extra deck or a way combo with it. Aqua dolphin just a way better card because of the hand trap meta formats to this day still a good card to play compare to it's way worst retrain that even Neos archtype even don't play it
@@GabrielLopez-zr7gz it’s a 3 card combo. You have nex, neo space connector, and neos in hand. Normal summon neo space connector, special summon aqua dolphin from deck, use nex to turn it into marine dolphin, use marine dolphin’s effect by discarding neos, use neo space connector’s second effect to summon neos from grave, contact fuse into marine neos.
I think Cyber barrier dragon was made to trap your opponent into wasting a battle phase after they summon a boss monster using all their resources. It works in theory if you consider how many resources it used to take to summon big monsters back in the GX fusion days.
I can see where Konami was going with Yugioh. Looking at all of the old cards, which were all overpowered, many decks had similar flavor, cookie-cutter, and every duel was a dice roll. At least now players have incentive to create themed decks. I'm just not willing to invest the money into the game anymore. I got burned out over a decade ago.
Monster reborn reborn could be potentially better than the og monster reborn in thunder dragons. Pick 3 thunder D in the Gy that u may want resummoned, opponent picks one, and the other two get banished. This pops your TD eff and allows you to combo off.
I don't hink Cyber barrier dragon is a retrain. It's just another different cyber monster. It has different atk, def, level and his effect has no similairty with the original.
The whole NEX experiment makes me wonder what the other 4 NEX-Spacians and the accompanying Neos fusion would have done. Given the theme set by the NEX-Spacians we got and Marine Neos, it may have been something like this. Mole probably wouldn't have bounced itself and the Neos fusion would have targeted more than just monsters. Scarab may have counted all the opponent's cards and all on the field for the Neos. Panther could also have targeted your monsters and the fusion could target any card. Hummingbird might have counted both hands with the Neos' boost going off your surplus of life. I have no idea how Twinkle Neos would have ended up given the random nature of the Glow Moss line.
What's the difference between soft and hard once per turn? And one more question: in Duel links you actually can play 3 copies of Neo-spacian marine dolphin as well as 3 copies of Neo-spacian aqua dolphin in the same deck. Why does "this cards name becomes Neo-spacian marine dolphin" effect does not count as one of the 3 cards in the deck in duel links?
Soft once per turn means that one card specifically can only use it's effect once that turn, and even then if it leaves the field and comes back somehow, it can activate again. Hard once per turn means every card with the same name as it is locked out of that ability for the rest of the turn, regardless of if it's another card or not
Aight Imma explain cyber barriers actual purpose. Yes you tribute a specific monster, yes you lose card advantage and yes its effect is terrible. However the way to summon it is actually genius, how you may ask? Its simple really. You see it can prevent your opponet from targeting a cyber dragon on your feild by removing the target and summoning a monster from your deck that has a higher defense than aby cy dragon in the main deck and can be a wall. It's great for removing low atk cyber dragon monsters on the field so you dont dicked by losing LP in battle with them. So yeah barrier dragon has more to it than what people actually see.
Regarding Counselor Lily, it seems like it would always miss timing. It’s an optional “when” effect, so it can miss timing, and, as I recall, one way a card can miss timing is by being sent to the GY for a Synchro Summon, since the card gets sent to the GY, then a Summon is performed, then other effects can be activated in response.
I wonder what a "Top 10 Anti-Meta cards that became Meta" list would look like. Mostly because I don't know how often a card that was once specifically anti meta in its use becoming meta in its own right happens.
Yas, 2nd retrained list!!! So, top 10 monsters you can summon via banishing monsters that doesn't belong into the chaos archetype to celebrate the newly released Toon Chaos set?
Before I watch, are the 4 legendary dragons that were based on powerful dragon Monsters that are on the banlist like Chaos Dragon and Dark Armed Dragon which were hyped up as being just as good as the originals but most were either worse or meh on this list?
Yes, they were. The 5 dragons were Dark Armed Dragon, Judgment Dragon, Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, Chaos Emperor Dragon, Envoy of the End and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon.
I think the intent with Cyber Barrier Dragon was that it would stay in defense, then the effect would keep it safe from an attack when someone tried to exploit the obvious weak stat by changing it's battle position. So if you didn't have direct removal, you'd need to invest one effect and two attacks to get rid of it. If it had some form of effect protection to make that route likely, it would have made a lot of sense.
21:43 i kinda wished NEX got further support. that they got busted cards and maybe something like what the Malefics got that it lets you bypass the rules of cards. like a new field spell whose name is always treated as "Neo Space" that upon activation lets you add 1 "NEX" card and if you do you get to special summon from deck 1 "neo-spacian" monster and 1 "chrysalis" monster. That while that field spell is on the field, you can special summon "Neo-Spacian" Fusion Monsters with effects other than "NEX". That offers protection from battle and card effect to your monsters by banishing from your GY a "Neo Space", "Neos", "Chrysalis", or a "Neo-Space" monster
Barrier Dragon would be so much better if they had just added one extra part of the effect, where after it blocks an attack, it immediately switches to defense mode. They could even "restrict" that effect in the same way as Giant Orc and cards of that sort, where once they attack, they switch to defense, and cannot switch stance again until the end of your NEXT turn.
I can't believe you forgot about Elemental Hero Neo Bubbleman, who, like Marine Dolphin, is supposed to be an upgrade of Bubbleman, except it's so much worse. Like Marine Dolphin, it has laughably bad stats, and can only be brought out with a very specific monster and a very specific spell card. The difference is Neo Bubbleman takes up a spot in the main deck, so you need THREE cards to get it out instead of 2. Secondly, the spell card it requires, Metamorphosis, is so broken on its own that it's been on the ban list for over a decade and has 0 signs it will ever come off. In other words, in a legal setting, the card is literally impossible to summon. And what do you get for the trouble of bringing it out? It destroys any monster it battles at the end of the damage step, meaning it has to battle AND THEN destroy the monster, and with a whopping 800 atk and 1200 def, it will almost certainly die to whatever it's battling. Neo Bubbleman is easily the worst card in the entire game, and it's not even close.
Cyber Barrier Dragon is like one sentence from being an okay card. If after the negate attack part the effect read "Then, switch this card to defense position" it would be at least playable, and doesn't make the stats so horridly lopsided.
I’ve found a lot of success using Monster Reborn Reborn in Duel Links, Psychic monsters combo with it well, as long as you’re building for Synchro monsters
maybe im stupid because im new to yugioh, but I think the attack-position negate for Cyber Barrier Dragon is there in case it gets forced into attack position by a card effect, then it can stop some random card from beating over it until you can swap it back
I...like Lightning Vortex? I’m not on meta with my D/D/D Deck as of 11/2020, but Lightning Vortex works really well due to all the discard and graveyard effects the archetype has.
I remember when Trishula was first printed and those Dueling days divine perfomances started to appear where you would summon trishula 5 times in the first turn to banish your opponent's entire hand....good old times........
I was not aware that Marine Dolphin locked you out of playing 3 Aqua Dolphin in your deck, that just adds to how horrendously bad the card already was.
I wanna say Lightning Vortex was used pretty often in the GX anime, since that show *tried* to match the real-world ban list... with the exception of Pot of Greed(I think?)

Well, regarding the "Cards no one expected to be good" this would be more along the lines of cards that weren't good until many, MANY years later
The "Cross" Duel Logs refers to is an Ankh!
The difference being that the Ankh is symbolic of what's known as an archaic religion. Not dissimilar to how Latin is referred to as a dead language. Symbolism from these exists in many different manifestations in most modern cultures.
I mean it was most likely censored because it looked like a cross, and probably not because of its actual pagan origins.
@@TheDuelLogs pagan or not, it is part of a long lost culture, and Puritans just declair it as evil because pagans use it.
@@TheDuelLogs It seems a bit silly since one of the millenium items is an ankh and it wasn't censored. Though maybe they got away with it because Shadi called it the millenium key and it had one bit jutting out to the side like an actual key..
@@rileylewand2219 It sounds like you're trying to say it's not an ankh and actually a cross by a different name. It's an ankh, just call it what it is. I don't feel the need to give a history lesson when someone says a parry dagger is a parry dagger.
Thank you! I've always found it strange that Injection FAIRY Lily is a spellcaster!
there were times where medicine was seen as sorcery. or you are magically cured after you see her huge ass needle
Fuzzy Barbarian fairy type is actually angel type, it just got mistranslated/censored. Although for all I know injection fairy lily might also be an example of the same mistranslation...
EDIT: checked the wiki and ocg name is injection angel lily, so there’s no reason for her not to be of the fairy/angel type. Guess the designers messed up
@@tcoren1 I am not sure on that one, but I >think< injection fairy lily was thought of before fairy type or something dumb like that.
LPFan “shining friendship” was released 2.5 years earlier in the ocg and is a fairy/angel type so that can’t be it
@@tcoren1 That is why I carefully worded it to avoid saying released because I forgot when that other thing.
Lightning Vortex is so damn underrated even before when Dark Hole was unbanned for the first time the card was ignored by many, but not me, always used it.
I think you really pushed what retrained means with the last 2 cards. Obviously they are bad cards, but they are evolved forms, not really retrains.
I'd agree with Cyber Barrier Dragon, but not with Marine Dolphin.
He does that shit all the time. Especially with the duel links additions. If you think about this channel too much you won’t like it lol
I stopped playing Yugioh close to 13 years ago... And I've watched the majority of these videos as if I still play
There needs to be XYZ, Pendulum and Link Verison of Trishula. Pretty much a Deck based around it, Yes it is from Ice barriers Originally
Top 10 cards that will bring daddy back
The "we already have milk, dad. No need to go and buy some." Xyz card
And at Number 10, we have "Hane-Hane", which has the effect of returning one daddy to its owner's hand.
Monster Reborn will bring him back.
I was going to say “Burst Return,” but that’d require my dad to be a Hero. :(
Joey Wheeler has been looking for that card for years. He never found it.
Eh, the last two barely qualify as retrains; they're additional cards that require the originals to function, appeared in the same anime series as the originals, and were very close in packs released too. Otherwise, great list haha
Marine Dolphin being the end play, *laughs as I activate Space Gift and get to draw even more because it has 2 names*
He did not say that it was a bad card. He said that it is inferior to the card it's replacing. Which it is.
@@TheTundraTerror this video is called "WORST" retrains, not "good but still worse" retrains
Lightning Vortex back in day was even good enough to be limited for a while. From April 2005 - September 2006.
In fairness to Cyber Barrier Dragon, if you summon it via "Born from Draconis", that ignores its summoning conditions AND its wonky statline but keeps its somewhat useful stalling effect, it can be kinda good

...Man, next to Skull Servant, goblins are just abused in artwork.
>Fishborg laucher
that's clearly an insect though
It launches fishborgs.
It could be a panda and launch fishborgs.
Your point?
It is a waterbug, so it kinda counts.
@DuelLogs Komoney seems to have finally given up on the censorship of cards, which I think is why they were okay with including both artworks in Monster Reborn Reborn. They are even in the process of slowly releasing the original artworks of cards via the Lost Art Promos.
It would ruin the card like a ton. They couldn't change it
Dueling Network made me hate Lightning Vortex. Every single time it was used against me I'd have to explain that no, it doesn't activate Dark World cards.
What about Ancient gear Golem Ultimate Pound It sucks compared to the original card
True
The Original Card is bad, so a worse version isn't the same as worse banned cards
@@rescuerex7031 The original card ain't bad it has numerous support cards to get it out, It's a damn good beater and it's required for some of ancient gears best fusions like ultimate ancient gear golem
@@giorgiostegher5504 I used to play a deck focused on bringing out the original Ancient Gear Golem. It was not that bad to bring out, as you could substitute Ancient Gear Golem with King of the Swamp. Terraforming was at 3, and with the old field rules it was not that hard to cheat out Ancient Gears from the deck with Geartown and then bring out Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem with Power Bond and/or Limiter Removal, for an OTK in your first or second turn. This combo was only weak to Bottomless Trap Hole and Torrential Tribute, both of which were restricted at that time period.
Fusion Trish is the only card in this list that sees competitive play right now. And in a tier 1 (maybe) deck nonetheless. The 2 dragon link lists running fusion Trish topped the latest LCS.
Meaning, it shouldn't be on this list!
Read the title again. It says the WORST retrains. Not the worst in terms of competitive viability. Fusion Trish is objectively a worse card than the original and EVEN if you wanted to talk about their competitive viability which OG Trish had OG Trish objectively the better competitive card
I think the idea behind barrier dragon was that the effect can protect it once per turn if it gets forced from defense to attack.

Top 10 Worst Levels/Ranks
I realized that aside from Level 4 having a toolbox, Level 3 having Earth and Rock support, low levels being great for tuners, Rank 10 being about Trains, etc - for a casual viewer, what were the least supported, least represented monster levels? I say worst, because Level 4 would probably be a runaway success and everyone more experienced would probably be sick to death of all the toolbox options.
Or maybe a Top 10 Level 6 monsters video, I don't seem to see many of those.
I personally like the TCG version of Monster Reborn. The ankh is more symbolic for the pharaoh, but I like the emblazoned cross-like pattern that it has. It really does look like a catalyst you’d use to resurrect a monster with.

Yeah, the ruling of only being allowed a combined total of 3 marine and aqua dolphins is not true. It was a previously official ruling under upper deck, but Konami has since ruled it unofficial
Might wanna go tell the recent games that, cause they disagree
There is one potential strategy that you can use for Monster Reborn Reborn: Necroface: Get 3 in the GY, make your opponent revive one and it’ll banish 20 cards from both decks. This will power up monsters that use the banishment zone
This dude predicted Konami's naming wtf
Injection Fairy Lily - Young Lily
Counselor Lily - Adult Lily
About The trishula retrain: you gotta think long term with that card. Of course it has a hard once per turn. What if sometime in the future the games gets to a power crept point where you could fusion summon that monster 15 times. That’s a full extra deck wipe right there. I disagree with marine dolphin being the “end” of a combo. You’re supposed to fuse it with neos to make Marine Neos which is genuinely a great card.
Aqua dolphin just a way better card because of the hand trap meta formats to this day still a good card to play compare to it's way worst retrain that even Neos archtype even don't play it
Not genuine
@@13thKingMu i don't care i play marine dolphin and it is good card (not the worst or best thing in the world)
@@GabrielLopez-zr7gz it’s a 3 card combo.
"Lesser version " card lives matter bro

Hard once per turn means every card with the same name as it is locked out of that ability for the rest of the turn, regardless of if it's another card or not
Barrier Dragon was most probably thought as in "if the opponent ever changes the position of this wall, it can still eat an attack"

@@melvinshine9841 Oh, I didn't know that
Since the card text says "when...you can", shouldn't Couneslor Lilly always miss the timing when used for a synchro summon?
I love the calming music that goes with this list
Larvae Moth vs Elemental HERO Neo Bubbleman. Battle for worst card. Whoever wins, they both lose.
One copy is all I need :) it makes it more intense. And if you managed to counter it, what a duel!
Cyber Barrier Dragon is like one sentence from being an okay card. If after the negate attack part the effect read "Then, switch this card to defense position" it would be at least playable, and doesn't make the stats so horridly lopsided.
I think it was funny that Zane says in the anime that Cyber Barrier dragon could destroy Cyber end Dragon. Yeah....how? 🤣
I’ve found a lot of success using Monster Reborn Reborn in Duel Links, Psychic monsters combo with it well, as long as you’re building for Synchro monsters
Idk if you have done this before but can you do a video about Top 10 Cards With The Most Reprints In All Rarity Form??
maybe im stupid because im new to yugioh, but I think the attack-position negate for Cyber Barrier Dragon is there in case it gets forced into attack position by a card effect, then it can stop some random card from beating over it until you can swap it back
I...like Lightning Vortex? I’m not on meta with my D/D/D Deck as of 11/2020, but Lightning Vortex works really well due to all the discard and graveyard effects the archetype has.
I remember when Trishula was first printed and those Dueling days divine perfomances started to appear where you would summon trishula 5 times in the first turn to banish your opponent's entire hand....good old times........
Idk about you but monster reborn reborn + Monsters that SS when they are banish = 3 monsters on the field insta. :P
