I ran Obnoxious Celtic Guard and trolled my opponent really really hard. My play group (at the time) really only played Beat-Down decks. So I devised a scheme that would have them think outside of Beat-Down. Run Obnoxious Celtic Guard, and a bunch of Equip Spells. And no, it wasn't to pump OCG, it was to pump the teeny monsters my friends played! After that, it was just stall, because I had no draw cards in my deck, I legitimately relied on luck and wall cards. They drew themselves into oblivion trying to find an answer, any answer, and I'm just sitting there, wiping their sweat off their foreheads with a towel. I broke Beat-Down inside of a week in my play group, and I have no regrets.
I remember someone trying to defeat my tiny silentswordsman with an obnoxious celtic guardian... then i activated rush recklessly and powered up the tiny one, it went straight to 1600, just enough to defeat Celtic guardian without activating the effect, then he asked me if I was going to evolve it to the 1900 atk version... nope, didn't had that one in the deck, had just the tiny one to get rid of flip monsters.
Armored Kappa is probably one of my favorite retrains alongside Uni-Zombie. Even though Armored Kappa never saw any play ever, I do appreciate them creating an Xyz version of Psychic Kappa, an old normal monster that most players probably forgot existed
It's funny how "crowned by the world chalice" died at the beginning of the World Legacy lore and it revived at the end as a broken as fuck synchro monster. Like, she got mad she died and activated a ton of cheat codes when she respawned.
As someone who never really played beyond the first Yu-Gi-Oh generation, the thing about not having 3 copies often, very true. Only blue eyes or dark magician were something you had more than one copy of.
Enraged Battle Ox is one of my favorite cards. The set it came in had a number of good Beast and Beast-Warrior monsters and support so I ended up making a Beast deck. To this day I mainly play with Beast/Beast-Warrior archetypes. I do play others like Salamangreat and Crusadia but I will always gravitate towards Beast decks because of this card.
It got 2nd place in local, but good for the player who almost won local with basically meme deck. Though considering the floodgates i doubt Celtic guardian really that useful in that deck.
0:18 THat explains WHY Yugi used Celtic Guard 2:25 AND Cursed Dragon AND Celtic Guard 4:49 AND Mystical Elf 6:50 AND Summon Skull 12:24 Huh. Not bad for a card Yugi used once in the filler episodes / the Dungeon Dice Monsters episodes. Strike Ninja surely had it better than Beaver Warrior, or Silver Fang, or Big Shield Gardna
I keep being reminded of Link whenever I see Celtic Guardian, lol. 😊 Anyway, I still like using him for my rank 4 XYZ summons sometimes. Obnoxious Celtic Guardian can be somewhat good if you have a boss monster that has more than 1900 attack points and you place him in defense mode.
I thought this was going to be boring and I was going to stop watching the video and play duel links but you opened my eyes to so many strategies, I had to watch to the end and subscribed with a thumbs up.
how about a video of the best monsters that can special summon themselves from the hand if you control a monster of their Archetype, like BlackWing Bora, the Spear?
Celtic guardian lore: he was an elf who wants to protect the people of a castle town he was raised in, then the Noble Arms come to fight off a strange enemy, while Celtic guardian fights to protect the towns folk, the Noble Arms sees Potential in Celtic Guardian. As weeks past as enemies came to assault the town, Celtic Guardian got an offer to help and assist the Noble Army (he is being Obnoxious because he is helping and was eager to help the Noble Arms AND due to his constant fear of enemies attacking the town) than years later, after being mature enough and he is no longer obnoxious, he now got the title of being part of NOBLE ARMS... Note: I am so proud of him...
I really wish they made more ridiculous named Celtic guard cards 😂 like annoyed Celtic guard, ridiculous Celtic guard, outraged Celtic guard, salty Celtic guard. There could be a whole archetype of them. Itd be sick.
Didn't mention Toon Summoned Skull, but I can't blame him. Pretty sure Toon was only truly competitive in my Grade School as a kid because no one ran S/T destruction because most of the cards worth worrying about were Normal Spells. Enraged Battle Ox also got an Aqua counterpart that supported Aqua, Fish and Sea Serpent monsters with Umitauros in the Zexal era. Abyss Rising if I recall and not really worth running as WATER decks were either going for Xyz summoning or Mermail.
YAY CELTIC GUARDIAN!!!!! my fave card ever. Have so many copies. Don't follow ocg news (especially when the game started). So didn't know it was strongest level 4 for a while. AWESOME!! (Probably why it came as a secret in OCG's LOB Pack, which I have a few copies of)
King of the Skull Servants, while kind of a silly gimmick, is still pretty good. He can easily OTK with all the Skull Servant/Zombie Support. Plus, it actually saw competitive play!
You are wrong about obnoxious Celtic Guadian. It was a warrior monster. Because of that fact, it fit in perfectly with the Gilford the legend starter deck. Which gave it a lot of use.
This was really interesting. It's awesome with Master Duel, seeing these cards, being surprised by all the new ones then watching a video like this can clear up a lot of the "why was this added" or "what's going on"
Just wanna say that when Celtic Guardian released and 1400 was the strongest a level 4 monster had, Celtic Guardian was still not that important because Kanan was in the game and level 5 and higher monsters could be Normal Summoned and Set without requiring tributes. These were the original rules until Volume 2. There are a total of 5 formats with these rules. If any of you curious, there's a playlist on my channel called History Challenge Season 1. Edit: Celtic Guardian was still playable and meta for a couple OCG sets though. Being Warrior was also good because Legendary Sword saw play in the early formats. As for TCG, it does have a place in the meta in the more aggro decks if you play a Legend of BlueEyes format, but its still just the 3rd strongest monster .

this might surprise you, but someone in the OCG came 2nd in a regional tournament with #10 this month, granted it is a control deck but the fact he use every single one of Celtic Guardian and ended up as 2nd with only 1 loss is really mind boggling.
I remember back before Air Marmot of Nefariousness was an Archfiend. Honestly, changing the card's name at all was an evolution. Also, not sure what I was expecting with this video, but was definitely thinking of the four Gagagigo cards. A tragic story, but a complete epic. I wonder if they ever added more to his story...
there aren't even 10 main characters, also the archetype might belongs to them, but they never played it in the anime/manga. Granted if you just strictly speaking about the archetype that belongs to them, we will have plenty of things to talk about, but it is such a headache to sort especially with Judai.
@@CrnaStrela i mean, talk for the archetypes that belong to them, so dark magician may be on the top, but magnet warriors dont, undestood? Like its the archetypes they played, including the support, and manga too i guess. Btw he just need to choose the top 10 bests and thats it
@@CrnaStrela main characters don't specifically mean the protagonist, it can be people like Kaiba aswell. So there's plenty of archetypes to choose from.
Curse of Dragonfire wasn't technically a retrain. It would be better to describe it as an Anime reference. In the Anime Curse of Dragon on one of its first appearances has an an effect; Yugi refered to as "using his Curse of Dragons Fire". The effect was simply that it could destroy field spell cards. I am pretty sure that these appearances were before the main release of the actual card game. In the early anime Cure of Dragon nearly always removed a field spell before being fused upto Dragon Champion. The fusion effect was propbably added due to how the game has changed since those days. Making this card more like a correction.
Honestly waiting for summoned skull to have it's own Archetype cause it's just really awesome to look at. Yeah you can kinda make one buuuuuut... its not very good on it's own.
Loved using IB Justiciar in my world legacy lore deck. I had it search monstrosity and used it as material for World Gears. Good times. It still can never come back.
I know it has to be called that for the support cards but Cursed Dragon- Curse Of Dragon sounds like someone stuttering on an ancient legend they only half remember
Fun fact: Archfiend Marmot of Nefariousness is quite poppular in Thai Yugioh community. It's has a somekind of nick name translated as Lord of Great Deity Demon Beaver (Demon Beaver is ocg name). (not) everyone in community worship him as a sacred object.
Even if the videos would be longer, It would be nice if you showed all versions. I stopped playing back when synchro came out so seeing the new versions of cards is honestly interesting.
Honestly surprised BM isn't on the list since both Dragoon and Magician's souls could both be considered card evos (though both are more like combined evo of two separate monsters so I'm not sure if they would count...then again Dark Counterparts qualify to you so I don't see why these wouldn't)
Dark Magician (And Red-eyes and Blue-eyes) kinda has a full archtype dedicated to it though, so while it does have evolutions,it kinda goes beyond just that.
I'd love to see Konami's meetings when deciding which monsters deserve evolutions. Did someone who was just a fan of some of the random early design just think "hey, let's make that one forgettable marmot viable this time. Turning him blue didn't do anything" and pitch it to their boss? Three-Legged Zombie was a card that I always thought was kinda sweet, though, so I was on board with them getting an upgrade.
It occurs to me, Skull Archfiend of Lightning chooses to roll a die instead of flipping a coin, even though the odds are identical, in a meta attempt to corrupt the user by introducing the player to gambling, an activity historically deemed evil. Dice are one of the earliest forms of gambling that is still used today, alongside playing cards. I'm probably overthinking it, but damn, that's so on brand for Summond Skull, "A fiend with dark powers for confusing the enemy." *I wonder if there is a correlation between Dark Fiends and using dice. Do light fairies use more coin flips?
I'm considering going through every top 10 to see who are the top 10 most mentioned card. Should I do the ones on the list or every card that shows up?
Maybe I missed it but what about Blue Eyes Alternative? Is that not considered an evolution and more of a retrain or a name copy effect? If so, there’s still Azure eyes or something that could be on the list involving Blue Eyes
How good were they as cards? I genuinely don't know the history of competitive yu-gi-oh, so I want to know because alternative seems decent, and Azure is very good, but compared to a lot of these other examples, BEWD doesn't live and die by those evolutions, unlike Dark Grepher. Blue Eyes support often is focused on the original, or on other support cards from what I can tell. Maybe I'm missing something since I pretty much only play Duel Links and just watch these vids for history and entertainment.
@@Gender_Ascender Alternative was one of the cards that made Blue Eyes meta and even win the world championship some years ago. It could easily be used to pop something then be used for synchro or xyz plays since it couldn't attack, or even go into Twin Burst Dragon. Plus it can be searched with Melody of Awakening Dragon. What people would do for Azure eyes is they could easily synchro summon Blue Eyes Spirit Dragon, use it for whatever, but then use its ability to go into Azure Eyes which would protect it from Spirit's destruction effect.
The reason piercing damage was good in the early day was the heavy use of Scapegoat, Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon more than battle destruction immune monsters (though that’s nice too.). A big part of why Archfiend Zombie-Skull never saw play before Spectralsword is Plaguespreader Zombie was limited the entire part of the synchro era Zombie-Skull existed in, so it was really hard to summon beyond the three monster summon. Cool, Obnoxious Celtic Guard! I remember using one in a Warrior-type toolbox deck alongside Fusion Sword Murasame Blade as a decent 2-card combo.
That's not even her final form. She is the keyblade master after all.
'Top Ten Isekais in Yu-Gi-Oh'?
I mean Ib straight-up fused with a Guardragon to ascend into that Form, and the Guardragons themselves are the transformed World Legacy.
And this is why we need a World Legacy video game. Come on, Konami! Make it happen!!!
Just watched a video about 'Yu-Gi-Oh R' by JWittz. Pegasus was almost isekai-ed. XD
As someone who never really played beyond the first Yu-Gi-Oh generation, the thing about not having 3 copies often, very true. Only blue eyes or dark magician were something you had more than one copy of.
Cursed Dragon - Curse of Dragon's next retrain will aptly be called, "Cursed Dragon - Curse of Dragon - Dragon of the Cursed"
Fun fact, Celtic guardian control won second place on a ocg tournament this year not too long ago

It got 2nd place in local, but good for the player who almost won local with basically meme deck. Though considering the floodgates i doubt Celtic guardian really that useful in that deck.

Big shield gardna is so cool. He's had a couple related cards over the years but I wish there was a way to build a whole deck around him

Strike ninja was also useful with world lock by using it to banish 2 dd satalites to have 2 tributes for the world's effect.

I still remember the good old times. The simpeler times, when there were no weird stuff and text so small, it was for ants
YAY CELTIC GUARDIAN!!!!!
my fave card ever. Have so many copies.
Don't follow ocg news (especially when the game started). So didn't know it was strongest level 4 for a while. AWESOME!! (Probably why it came as a secret in OCG's LOB Pack, which I have a few copies of)
He is so cool
King of the Skull Servants, while kind of a silly gimmick, is still pretty good. He can easily OTK with all the Skull Servant/Zombie Support. Plus, it actually saw competitive play!
You are wrong about obnoxious Celtic Guadian. It was a warrior monster. Because of that fact, it fit in perfectly with the Gilford the legend starter deck. Which gave it a lot of use.
Enraged Battle Ox is awesome to use with Ape Fighter, Voltic Kong, and Vampiric Koala.

They eventually made a Rank-4 XYZ called "Gagagigo the Risen", so there's that!
Top main character archetypes? Like dark magician, gagaga, odd eyes, performapal and on
there aren't even 10 main characters, also the archetype might belongs to them, but they never played it in the anime/manga.

Yes
holy shit, YGOrganization just released a post with the entirety of the world legacy lore written out
How did they manage to do that?
Summoned Skull?? That's the name??
In Brazil it was localized to "Rei Caveira" wich means "Skull King"

Shout out to that dice game Yugi played that made Strike Ninja cool.
Yeah, the show made dungeon dice monsters look awesome.
They really need to make a la jinn evolution.

I'm probably overthinking it, but damn, that's so on brand for Summond Skull, "A fiend with dark powers for confusing the enemy."
*I wonder if there is a correlation between Dark Fiends and using dice. Do light fairies use more coin flips?
I think it represented the Faustian bargain of demon summoning, where they were powerful but would turn on you if they felt like it
Also light fairies are more themed around countermagic, giving you benefits for using counter trap cards or negating your opponent's cards themselves
Star boy evolves into Mistar boy using a hat and a moustache... I fuse them now using the power of the heart of the cards?
I had no idea Strike Ninja was Ansatsu's reworked version, I love it!

Ahh yes, this dragon has been cursed with dragon
