Great idea. I am just following all these tutorials in order for my home improvement. The other day I patched some holes. This week, refresh the benchtop!
Looks awesome! I want to reno my bathroom. The tiles are in very good condition so I'm tossing up between the Magic Spray or painting it myself. I'd love a tutorial on painting tiles with the Dulux or White Knight products. I've seen their how to videos, but I'd like a user demo.
Bill this actually looks way better than I was expecting. New benchtops are much more expensive than most people would imagine. Can you explain what is the ideal temperature range to apply this product (i.e. probably not best to do in very hot or humid days)?
I never take on painting benchtops and tiles as I don’t trust how durable they will be but this customer was insistent on having it done. I have a painting on tiles video coming soon and also possibly a video testing if the painted tiles are actually durable 👍
I had a laminate bookcase that I repurposed to a footwear storage device. (Bad idea because the wife took it as a challenge to fill, nay *over* fill it and she did.) I found a special undercoat paint that primes it so you can then slap some standard water based paint on it. If it's ok with Bill and if anyone is interested plus if I can remember, I will post the name of the primer paint for the iron on laminate. It is *NOT* for use on laminated benchtops but for the cheapie iron on laminate. Bill, was the kickboard already painted to match the new benchtop colour or was that just a fortunate coincidence? Regarding good quality masking tape, I purchase 3M rolls from Bunnings at just under $10 a roll when I was following your Master Class on _How to Seal the Grout_ and the only thing that the 3M tape stuck to was my fingers and the paint on the ensuite wall when I was finishing a job the painter didn't do when the house was built 23 years ago. Of course the paint peeling may have been due to the painters only putting a single thin coat onto the plasterboard without any undercoat. 😡Was not impressed by that or the 3M tape but I always keep receipts so got a refund on four of the six rolls I purchased. 🥳 *Thank you* for the video Bill. Great and helpful as always. 👍
I have used zinsser BIN before on a laminated surface and has held up fine for years. The kick boards were also painted along with the benchtop. Regarding tape, I use scotch tape and frog tape. There are different tapes for different applications and levels of tackiness👍👍
@@madcatjo No, the paint is *Dulux PRECISION* and it's water based. From the side of the tin: _"Grips and bonds to smooth glossy surfaces. Ideal for use on glazed tiles, glass, laminate, uPVC & glossy enamels. For interior & exterior use."_👍
This is a budget project. Replacing benchtops is always preferable however you need to factor in removal of old benchtop, sink, plumbing, electrical appliances, hope that it can be removed without damaging the splashback and then re installation. 👍
We need to get Bill his own segment on better homes and gardens.

👍👍👍
I didn't even know laminate benchtops could be painted. Was thinking about just replacing them. I think you've saved me quite a bit of money. Thanks!
Looks crazy good for painted laminated
I am painting the bench top and tiles in my kitchen as my Xmas project. Your vid was soooo helpful. Thx Bill. 😊
Another great video Bill. Thanks for your time that you give to all us DIY 👍

Good timing, now I’ve got something to watch while I take my big after dinner dump. Thanks Bill
Glad I could help 👍
cheers Bill, my laminate tops are pretty worn out, this would be a good solution!
I am doing a quick test on some spare tiles to see how durable the paint is. 👍👍👍
@@billshowto sounds good!

I can’t remember the recommended temperatures however generally between 10-30 degrees is ideal
@@billshowto thanks mate!
it looks great .... I know in Australia we have Dulux Centre, here is none an dis hard to get the colours match
That's different Bill. Not sure that I like it but it did go on well.

Is it just me, but now I say "Let's do this" before I tackle anything DIY.
Lol 👍👍👍
I occasionally verbalise what I'm doing (narrate) if I'm doing a DIY-type thing. I've noticed I've started doing Bill's "upward inflection" LOL

Is it the Zinsser BIN primer?

Now those kitchen tiles need painting too 😅
Did you need to re silicone around the sink before prep work or there was no water damage?
Need to re silicone anywhere where it was removed from
Remove all silicone before starting the work. Silicone can be re applied once completed 👍
300 for paint? I would have just replaced the counter top. Ikea does them cheap

I wish I knew how they hold up in the long run, however I don’t do this type of work for that reason. 👍
