    I'm in Pennsylvania. Even the ground is like a rock. Mostly hammock. Carry 4 mini ground hogs and 4 vargo nail style. Great video. 👍

    Informative, well edited, and will probably save a lot of folks from the frustrations many of us experienced. 😃

    This video is super useful! l wish l had come across it earlier on in my 'hiking career.' 0:53 Same happened to me, 2 of 3 bended on first use. However, I still use them and they're doing just fine, even bended 🤷🏻‍♂️ Keep up these good videos! ATB 😊

      Thank you so much! Yes, thankfully they still work bent, but they sure make me nervous when that's the case!

    While I love my Durston tent, the V stakes just aren’t it for anything rocky or hard. First trip I mangled two of them so I agree. Went back to my trusty groundhogs with shepherd hooks.

      I really wanted to like the Durston stakes as much as I like everything else Durston. Just not worth the risk taking them out on the trail. I'm working on a comparison of the blue Y stakes I use and the Groundhogs to see if the Groundhogs are worth the expense. In any case, they're both better options than the Ti Durston stakes!

      @@WanderingSwitchback your favorite stakes look very comparable to the groundhogs. I inherited mine which is the only reason I have them! I’ve heard knockoffs of similar design are just as good!

    Once I ponied up and bought MSR Groundhogs I got spoiled and will never buy anything else. Worth their weight in gold 👌

      I’ve been curious to try them. The blue ones in the video are very similar and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them so far.

      @Wandering Switchback I looked at MSR knock offs too but always found a few negative reviews and decided just to spend the extra money. I don't regret it but I'm glad those are working for you. Seems like a good deal if they hold up 👍

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  Рік тому +2

      For sure! The Groundhogs are a great investment, though, and I can totally understand the hesitation to go with a cheaper option. I've beat the hell out of these, and so far, zero damage.

    New subscriber here! You are the first reviewer I’ve seen to have the Groundhogs and the S2S Ground Control stakes in the same video. I have been trying to decide between the mini groundhogs and the S2S for part of my stake arsenal, wondering if there is any appreciable difference between the two other than price. What has been your experience, especially in hard or gravelly soils like we have down here in SoCal? Thanks!

      Thank you so much! I recently purchased Groundhogs to compare with the blue ones in the video (the red ones I show here are the ones that came with my River Country Trekker tent, and they've been great). I'm working on a video now comparing the Groundhogs to the blue ones (LiteOutdoors). So far, I'm happier with how the blue ones perform, but I'm going to be trying them out in the desert this week, so we'll see! I've been using them in the Sierra for the past year or two, and they've done great with both the hard and gravely ground.

    How do you like the LiteOutdoor stakes compared to the MSR?

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  Рік тому +2

      The price is certainly better, and I like that they have multiple notches for securing your guy line. I haven't used the MRS Groundhogs, to be fair, but these have gotten me through some gnarly conditions, between high winds and hard ground with absolutely zero damage, so I'm really happy with them. Also nice that you can get them with the tensioners and guy lines, which I have used on all of my tents.

      Honestly I just pound a stick in the ground or tie a length or rope to a stick and bury it, I always lose or puncture if I carry metal ones

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  Рік тому +3

      I’m more of a filet girl myself.
      The ground here is always too hard to drive in a stick, at least that’s been my experience. I’ve definitely done little rock, big rock with sticks and rocks.
