Welcome Back To THE STRAWHAT SHOW !!
This was a hard one to watch as we take a deep dive into Ren's - Suicide.
Ren's "Su!cIde" is a deeply emotional and raw journey that truly broke us. The way Ren tackles the issue of suicide, capturing the raw emotions that accompany it, is incredibly telling. He transforms such a dark topic with beautiful poetry, making it both poignant and powerful.
Ren has truly outdone himself with this one. It's clear he is trying to save lives and show those grappling with the idea of suicide that they are not alone in their struggles. This song is definitely worth putting on your repeat playlist; there are so many themes and nuances that might only become clear on a second or third listen.
We were deeply moved by this reaction, and we appreciate the raw, gritty emotion that Ren poured into "Su!cIde." It's a testament to his artistry and his mission to bring light to dark places.
    #Ren #Su!cIde #Reaction #Emotional #RawAndGritty
Are we full on RENEGADES YET ?

This song is about his friend Joe, in the comment section of this video Ren writes about Joe, their friendship and his death. Ren feels immense guilt over the death of Joe but Joe’s death and the impact it had on his family and friends is the reason why Ren never gave up during his years of suffering. He saw the impact it had on the people around him and he swore he would never put the people he loves through that.

Ren got a call 3am that his best friend was on the bridge where they lived. Ren put clothes on and ran, I worked in this village for 16 years and know where Ren lived it's literally a 5 min walk but he sprinted there for 2 miinutes and kept getting a busy ringtone until he was half way there and the phone went off. He was literally about a minute late saving his friend and has had to live with it. I remember when Joe went missing the whole village was hit hard. you should watch Ren's chapters on ren makes stuff it gives you an insight in to everything he's had to live with and so much hurt. Joe jamp off the Menai Bridge and the currents are notorious to be bad. love you guys xx big love from North Wales x

In the song Ren mentions that he couldn't wave his body off in the "Hearse"
Hearse is not a body bag.
Hearse is a long vehicle used to carry the body of a deceased person in a coffin at a funeral.

The part where he talks about "purging" is referring to when he was at his most sick and almost overnight he developed allergies and intolerance to a massive range of foods. I believe this was in response to the meds and treatments he was getting, years before getting his correct diagnosis! He was essentially being treated for illnesses he didn't have, and the side effects made him even more sick! His psychosis and inability to eat were just some of the issues that he suffered through unnecessarily because he needed treatment for Lyme disease but just kept getting wrong diagnoses and treatments.
I hear lots of people comment on how Lyme disease can be managed fairly simply, but only if it's identified and treated quickly. Imagine being given countless diagnoses over a decade and countless unnecessary treatments and medications that made you way more sick, whilst the actual illness was allowed to grow inside him. Battling all of those factors, as well as the trauma of Joe's suicide, the side effects of all the wrong meds; he had to face the idea that he may well die from his illness!
The strength to go through that and come out as a truly amazing artist is just awe inspiring! ❤❤

From what I’ve read, his friend Joe called another friend to say goodbye and then that friend called Ren. He went to the bridge right away but was too late. Joe’s body was never found.

  • @InconSteveHable
    @InconSteveHable 25 днів тому +6

Ren was called by a friend in the early hours of the morning, Joe had called them to say he was on a bridge ready to jump, Ren rushed to the bridge calling Joe on his phone as he did so, the phone rang a few times but then went out of service, Ren arrived at the bridge a couple of minutes later but there was no sign of Joe. Ren was "late like a jerk" but there was nothing that Ren could have done, he still feels the guilt of not being there for his closest and best friend, there are a lot of songs in Ren's catalogue that are about Joe and lots of references in his music.... The swan ton bomb lines especially as Ren first met Joe when visiting his house for the first time, and when he met Joe a skinny freckled kid was standing on the back of a sofa and then Joe did a swan ton bomb of the sofa to land flat on his back on a concrete floor, he lay there for a few seconds the leapt up and did it again, Ren always said Joe was his biggest fan and closest friend.
Ren had an interview with Knox Hill, in which he talked about Joe and his suicide, after the interview he realised that although the Suicide track which he wasn't to happy with (he thought the song wasn't finished) was completely done and ready for release he didn't think it was a complete song.
He then wrote the lines to the second part, literally writing the line and then recording it straight away so the tears you hear are genuine, he then got the guys to fly out to Canada so they could film the video portion, which was then sent back to the UK to be mastered and added to the Suicide track, I think the whole thing took like 3 days and made the song perfect.

You guys gotta watch the live version. Idk if you guys know this, but a couple months into the second year of his illness when he was still searching for answers, he told his mother that if there were no answers by the end of the year, he would be around for a third year and he was sorry! I’m sure she thought for sure they would have answers by the end of the second year that he was just upset and venting, but he was serious. And the craziest thing is his best friend Joe, Jumping off 100 ft bridge, is what it took for Ren not to take his own life. He saw the negative impact that had decided. He was going to have to wait for the disease to take his life but it was ok because he knew it would be relatively soon, but unfortunately for him, it was still 6 more long years until he even got a proper diagnosis! And that’s why this man is amazing, unique, compassionate, driven, and unapologetically the fuckin man! I love your reactions fellas as well as your original content. I hope you watch the 8 part series he really tells it all and you gotta appreciate his willingness to put it ALL OUT THERE. Gotta listen to Lateralus by TOOL, one it’s an all-time masterpiece, two it’s written about the Fibonacci spiral. It’s an exact mathematical equation like 1+1=2+2=4+4=16 and so on and you get a never ending spiral like the kind you see on a Batman cartoon. And then double Dutch yes is a jump rope game but it also is a term for basically speaking gibberish not making any sense no pattern, rhyme or reason. NYCrepresent the heavy breathing is because he was running to the bridge to try and get to his best friend before he jumped and he said he kept calling and the phone was busy so he knew he was on the phone still which gave him a little bit of hope, and then a little past halfway, which he said is a 3 to 4 minute run the busy signal was gone and said number is not in service and his heart dropped! Then the instrumental piece McKay is about his other best friend that died about six months later drowning accidentally. Unfortunately I lost both my best friends to suicide as well, one 3 weeks before his 22 birthday and the other on his 40th. I think he ended the song perfectly with the word fuck. I hate that he blames himself . I did that shit a long time and it sucks. And then I lost 5 friends in the WTC attacks one while I was on the phone with her trying to navigate her out cause she couldn’t see. I was 2 blocks away and I the sound of people jumping has never left me and never will. I am really proud of him for bringing attention to this subject that always gets swept under the rug and thank you Ren for changing the spelling to get through the YT ALGORITHMS. I’m sorry this post is so long fellas, but the last part he added after he did an interview with Knox Hill. I’m pretty sure Nox cousin passed away from either accidental overdose or suicide and Red went back and either put this part back in or then wrote it and added to it because he felt it wasn’t complete. And boy the song is amazing but the End is so tough and hard to put yourself out there like he did and I respect him so much for doing that because that’s the part that will save someone multiple people guaranteed. He actually went and played it for Joe‘s mom. I can’t remember how long after his death. I think it was about six months to a year, but he hasn’t seen her and he went and he played it for her wanting her to hear his art and I’m sure get her blessings on posting this song about her son. he said they had a long embrace and they cried a lot together and she loved the song I’m gonna give him a little bit of closure. He said that Joe was the comedian of the group always telling jokes and making everybody laugh and that I think over Christmas break he was working on something and they went out for a drink and he said something about suicide and took it as like a joke because he joked about everything And then one of his female friends I guess text him or somehow told him she was on the phone with Joe who was on the bridge and Ren lived the closest so he woke up out deep sleep, put on his shoes and started running but in his mind, not fast enough or I’m sure there’s a little bit of guilt that when he mentioned it to him that he kind of like yeah you’re joking. My buddy said from the age 29 that he was gonna shoot himself when he turned 40 because he had a club foot and this he couldn’t get it amputated or fixed that was gonna be his solution. I used to ask him why do you say that shit man stop saying that stuff don’t even joke around like that if you’re serious let’s go get some help. Talk to somebody.. But he never would, but then on his next birthday, he would say the same thing when I turned 40 and it was next birthday when I turn 40. Well, he called me and I was bartending a party and didn’t answer, but he wasn’t bluffing.. So seriously if you have a friend or a family member that even says it once take them serious!!

Also wanna add about the heavy breathing... He struggled with panic attacks, and if you haven't ever had one or anxiety in general, most people breath heavy like that when feeling either of those. He uses it in songs of fear/pain/anxiety.

The other thing that should be included in this is that on Drop Day, we gathered on Twitch afterward, as we'd done throughout the Sick Boi song drops. His first, and main, concern was that he wanted to hold space for anyone who may have struggled with the song, or been triggered by it. And he created an opportunity for us to support each other as well as to support Ren. Because he is so empathetic.

I have appreciation for this one (though I hit skip on it a lot), but I appreciate it because it shows BOTH sides (and there's def 2 sides) - from the one who takes their own life, the fear, the uncomfortable head space they are in, the pain... as well as from the "survivor's" view - how it affects those that love the lost & the pain it causes. It's a different kind of pain, one I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, one that'll change you forever, which is why Ren talks about it a lot, I think. One he will never be the same, two he wants to save anyone he can from this pain.

The first half, Ren talking about himself and suicidal thoughts and the second half about his experience around his friend Joe’s Suicide.
He wrote the second half of the track some time later than the first…seem to recall him saying that he felt it was ‘unfinished’ and an interview he did stirred up thoughts and feelings about Joe’s death.

To me, the first part of this song is about Ren contemplating S. Being in pain 24/7 makes you think about it. I know..Never felt like the right time he sings. The second part is for his friend Joe Hughes. Ren says he stopped thinking about it as he felt and saw the repercussions of S. I know as my Mom committed Suicide 😔😔. Edit: I typed too soon because you said the same 🙂

Crying in the rain with a smile on your face is the hardest thing to read. Please talk to someone. You never know how much it can help. ❤
