Your reactions are so thoughtful. I really appreciate the time and care you put into them. I recommend watching Ren's 8 chapters that tell his whole story. They provide a lot of insight into his music. They are on his renmakesstuff channel.
I haven’t listened to a Ren song, or any song for that matter, like I have since I first watched Hi Ren, until Troubles. Leading up to the release I watched each of The Chapters ( on YT under RenMakesStuff) . It was difficult to watch and hear RENs journey directly from him and in his words and communicated through his own voice. They are Deeply personal and the overall consensus among both the reaction community and the Renegades is that they are not for reacting to. Their purpose is just meant to explain what those years were like for him and for those around him; and he set up personal boundaries and requested that we, the audience, respect them and the people in them ( although not named). And we have done that and Ren thanked everyone, not just for listening to his journey but also for respecting those boundaries. He gives so much of himself to his craft and to his community of Renegades it would really be a disservice for all that we’ve been given by and through him.❤
The Synth "Wurbling" sounds in syncopation of the beat was to me and only my opinion, were most prevalent during his descriptions of physical and mental pain. Almost like one who is underwater, trying to shout to be heard and understood...Yea, I know a bit of a reach, but it's my take on it. Ren music is the medicine I take daily and you are correct about this track being styled as a Boom Bap 90's NYC vibe to it. Vera Halls 1937 song "Trouble So Hard", which Ren paid for the rights to use, has a central message which has resonated with Ren throughout his journey. Indeed Ren....Your Limo has arrived...
The "turntable" sound you didn't like was not turntables. It was a "synth" sound that Ren creating by taking Vera Hall's vocal sample, adding a tuner so that he could change the chords, and then a filter so that he only picked up the higher pitches. Very cool/clever. And personally I love the sound !
Oh. I thought it was his voice through a "talkbox". In the end of the song it says "ending this story now, ending this story now, ending this story now..." and I dont think that it's Vera Hall singing it.
The thing about Lyme disease is that, typically, it can be completely cured with a short course of antibiotics. The problem comes from when it isn't diagnosed, such as in countries like the UK where it isn't common. Prolonged lyme disease can REALLY mess you up, so if you don't recognise the early signs and get on it, there's any amount of suffering it can cause. Ren's lyme disease went undiagnosed almost a decade.
For those who haven't yet... ya Gotta watch his 8 chapters describing what he lived thru! (Must watch his life story, in 8 chapters, in his Troubles playlist!) His lyrics are Truly His Story... clawed at the laminate... (seven sins line!) I mean Come On Man!!!
I've really enjoyed watching your Ren journey! Your honest insights really make me think about these songs in a new light. Much respect for your obvious love & deep understanding of the music! This song is very close to my heart - it took over 7 years to get my MCAS diagnosis...I honestly thought I would be dead by now, either from being unable to eat, or from the doctors giving me medication that made everything worse. When you're that sick, getting a real diagnosis is everything you dream about - sadly, even now that they know what is wrong with me, there isn't much they know about the disease to be able to help. But, like Ren says, there are victims & students - the more of us who search for answers, the more likely we'll find a way out of the dark. Thank you again for your thoughts! Ren reactions have been my therapy booster for a while now. It is refreshing to find someone who really listens & isn't afraid to offer an honest opinion, even if you didn't like something. ❤
Thats not a turn table, it's actually the same Vera Hall sample that you hear singing "trouble so hard" edited and manipulated by Ren. At first I found it a bit unusual. It grew on me.
12:57 - yep, it was such a horrific experience that he lost himself & it changed who he was, but it's also a double because Ren timed the release of this track to coincide with ME Awareness Week. (ME was a misdiagnosis that he carried with him for 5 years, and he became involved in online ME communities during that time as an ME blogger, and he said that if he ever made it out, he'd push for awareness & treatments) The ME community's slogan for their awareness campaign is #MillionsMissing, because you fade from the outside world and go missing, and too often people abandon and forget you when you're stuck in your bed. So the lyric "Posters up, manhunt, Ren went missing" is also a reference to the campaign. Ren and many others changed their social media profile pictures to the Missing graphic for ME Awareness Week. re: the weird soubd thing - I initially disliked it too (probanly not as much as you though) but it's won me over as "I can accept this in the song" lol. I think largely because I find the rhythm of it to be so damn catchy. While the *sound* itself was created by manipulating Vera Hall's vocals, RikaShae (another reactir who had become actually involved with Ren via participation in a digital scavenger hunt Ren set up before the release of Money Game 3 last year) pointed out that the melody/rhythm of it is derived from Nas' "The Message." (I wouldn't know that on my own; I don't know much about rap yet outside of Ren). Leans into this track's intent as being a message - of hope for those suffering with these diseases, and of education for the rest of us. ❤
hello dear!! i really appreciate your willingness to acquire a taste for ren!!!! and to add to your comments about where pain may lead people, imho pain and crazy go hand in hand, a chicken and the egg type of situation. and i speak on the (lol) authority of 72yrs of personal experience. ren is the 2nd greatest light in my life these days, i'm not invisible. kathleen 🙃
You must be weird😂😂😂😂 I oive that synth sound he worked in there. But I understand about certain tones being irritating. Nice reaction!❤ One thing..Lyme is so much more than pain. In his case brain fog and crushing fatigue left him not himself. It's a progressive disease so his symptoms kept getting worse, effecting vision, heart, and organs. In Canada he is dealing with the autoimmunity and the brain damage.
Thank you for supporting our Sick Boi. Ren is a survivor indeed and his music saved him from himself. He is still going through treatments in Calgary AB Canada. His next album will be more song & guitar. Great reaction!
It’s funny the part that you don’t like about the song, is the part I really like about it. For some reason, I love that sound and I think it goes well with this song. I’m glad you’re getting into Ren. We all love him.
I'm loving how Ren is growing on you and I agree not everyone's taste is the same in music, but I've gotta say, YEP you are a little weird. 🤣99.99% have had nothing but good things to say about Ren's production on this track. Some professional musicians and producers have even stated that Ren production of this sample by the iconic Vera Hall, Trouble So Hard 1930, is as brilliant & as inspired as Moby's version on the Natural Blues Album in 1999. I know you're a Metalhead so I'd love to see your reaction to one of Ren's older tracks called "Crutch". It's over 8 years old & he had written it shortly after a sever psychotic breakdown. I find it powerful for such a young artist, especially at the time he made it(be sure to read the description section of the video). It starts out as a somber & hunting piano ballad & a little more than half way through it blasts into a heavy metal inspired track with electric guitar riffs and a crazy vocals from Ren, attempting to channel his inner Axl Rose😝🤘 (not quite at that level, but it's still good 😜). That track; mind you I am by no means an expert in Metal, gives me the feeling of something Sleep Token would play. You although hit the nail on the head with Ren's "Trouble", because it is 100% old school 90's inspired Rap. Cheers brother, Rock On 🤘.
I love your reactions and the stuff you pick up on. Thank you always for your honest feedback. Side note: I feel you on sounds that grate. I have misophonia and will have physical reactions to certain sounds. 💜
In his chapters on Ren Makes Stuff , he also heard about the bee sting recipe. He went deep and sometimes dark during his desperate search for answers.💕👍🦇
The sample that's saying Oh Lord, Nobody knows my struggle but God, is made by Vera Hall. She sang it in '39. I have spina bifida and fibromyalgia. Plus myoclonic seizures. There's a misfire in my brain. Quick shudder and done. A hiccup is a good shock.
Most honest representation of chronic illness and depression I've seen...speaking as a person who has lived through and is still living through similar situations (minus the Lyme diease) I find his truth an inspiration.thank you for being open minded to Ren's art.his message reaches many!!🎶❤✌
Thank you. I really enjoy your well thought out reactions. This song didn’t appear on REN’s Sick Boi album but Ren considers it to be a closure song for that period. Where will he go next?💕👍🦇
Stay honest, it makes your reaction more valuable. I believe that I heard in some interview that Ren mentioned various sucess stories for limited number of persons and that bee stings were one of them. I don't remember hearing that he tried it but he did try many alterative medicines that worked for others, many with negative results for Ren.
Just ran across your channel recently and have been going through your back catalog. As a fellow metal head, I'm looking forward to see your reactions to some of Ren's guitar driven work. I'm sure you have plenty of suggestions already. 💛🤘🤙✌️
Ren and his music are my daily fix. I suffer from severe chronic pain and other diseases and no diagnosis in 15 years. Depression from pain 24/7 is real. Ren is our Angel/Ambassador of Hope. Good reaction. Many more Ren songs to go
Bro, so many amazing songs to check out. 3 different genres, What You Want, Losing it and Halftime, (Nas retake) will give you an idea of just how versatile our Boi is. Enjoy the journey. 🫶🫶🫶
Ren has another UA-cam channel. _Ren makes music_ There are eight chapters he is reading about his health struggles. It's worth to see. Great reaction ☀️
Thanks for your honest opinions. Me? I like the sample; but some tones can annoy me too so I get it! And it definitely has an old school vibe. Speaking of Chapters, he put out 8 Chapters telling his story up to the release of this video. You should check them out if you want to know more about his journey. They're on his RenMakesStuff channel. 💜💜
That sound you hate is Vera Hall's voice. I thought it was a guitar with a wah-wah peddle. Ren shows in a video short how he made that sound. I don't know why you thought it was a turntable.
It does have that quality though so he's not crazy for making that connection. You thought it was a guitar wah-wah peddle sound, he thought it was a turn table scratch. You were both wrong. We do that sometimes, as humans 😊
Great reaction dude, this song is a big message of hope for everyone struggling, and huge to raise awareness. Love how you go over parts at the end and share your thoughts as well. Whats good about ren i think is the variety of styles he does, there is no music industry 'magic formula' thats rehashed each track, we are really in the dark every new release about what we are going to get. And yes sure that means that some tracks may not fit with you and thats fine you just wait for the following release which may catch you again! In the last year or 2 ive definitely had some that didnt quite work for me, thats just personal preference. Great job being honest in your views!
