I LOVE THE HIS GIRL FRIDAY REFERENCE! I got to watch that movie in my film class (I'm a film minor) and it was one of my favorites of the entire semester. All she needs is a fedora, notepad, and trench coat and we'll be set!

I was a painter for 15 years. I don’t understand why you would spray trim under those circumstances. There is a thing called a paint brush
They spray to get the job faster to get more money, or so they think and do a losy job.
I'm not a painter, but I've painted my house both inside and outside. If I'm using a sprayer instead of a brush, I hold a big piece of cardboard over the part I don't want to get any paint on, and move it along with me as I go. Because I'm lazy and I don't want to use a bunch of tape and plastic sheets lol. But the cardboard works just fine!
I don't understand how a professional painter like the defendant does not know how to prevent over-spray.....and he planned to pressure-wash the shingles! That would damage them! And when JJ pointed that out, he said the roof was in bad shape anyway! Omg. I was sympathetic to him until he said that. He's really, really bad.

Hurricanes are really, really big. They are multi-state events. If one area has wind damage, another area could have had a lot of rain. Also, North Carolina borders South Carolina (shocker!), and so does Augusta, GA.
Having said that, never power wash a roof! That's just like subjecting it to a hurricane! You can damage the roof!
Power washers have a place, but NOT a roof nor siding.
Augusta didn’t get hit by the hurricane. We had memes and it was a joke on the local news. They closed down the schools and it was sunny all day 😂😂😂

The plaintiff seems to have made a fatal mistake not having an itemized breakdown for the replacement job. He's not going to get away with this "total job" thing; not with Judy. Without that breakdown, Judy can't help him recover the costs of removing that paint from the roof.
I'm not excusing the defendant. He did poor work. But there is no way I'd order him to pay for things like rain gutters or wood repair.
She’ll definitely have him submit a new estimate, which she’ll approve, and the defendant will have to pay for it. Because that was a hack job, and I would take him to court too.
If you pressure wash an asphalt shingled roof, you're damaging it because you'll loosen the grains off of the shingle. You can't do that!
The overspray on that roof is ridiculous, I don’t like the plaintiff but a bad job is still a bad job.
Saying he is gonna power wash the roof is not helping his case.

YES! I cut my hair with clippers at home and I lean over a plastic tub so the hair falls into it. Then I can vacuum it out. I also lay down garbage bags that are still flat like tarps to keep hair from getting all over the sink and toilet in the bathroom.
That this gent OVERsprayed white paint in the roof is unforgivable..One uses shielding to make sure this pattern DOES NOT EXIST.. one has plastic short side sheeting to containt the oversray on roof..and only get the plastic sheeting sprayed. This is a terrible job as my dad was a parinter for 45 years!

It's amazing how some people think they can just write something in a contract like "I'm not responsible for anything I do wrong" and think that will hold up in court.

As a painter overspray is our number one concern. Chad is not a professional. FYI, paint does not come off shingles.
Plaintiff is a bold faced liar. And JJ knows it. And now ten million people do, too.
I get why JJ laughed at the "not responsible for damage" but if the old guy was daft enough to sign a contract to say that then it's a contract. I don't know if the US has law about unfair contracts as we do here in the UK or if it is something settled in court / BBB but otherwise it's a contract.
I lived in NC during that storm and it was surprisingly damaging nowhere near the coastline. The plaintiff saying “oh the storm was north of blah blah,” doesn’t matter. My town was hours away from the coast and we still had floods and power loss. Not saying that makes the defendant more credible, just that the plaintiff was foolish to put his foot in his mouth on what became a Cat 4 hurricane, even if it weakened before landfall.

That plaintiff is like my poor dad, he is absolute in remembering things that may or may not have happened. LOL But my Dad has standing so people believe him..... I ask him a few question to clarify and his stories fall apart.
