    I went for a job interview at Harrods 34 years ago. It was in the perfumery department for a particular perfume that had diamonds in the bottom of the bottle. Mohamad Al Fayad took me upstairs to a dimly lit lounge bar for the interview. He asked me what alcohol I wanted to drink. I was so confused. I didn't want a drink, but he tried to talk me into it. He asked a lot of personal questions...did I have a boyfriend etc. Not many questions about my work experience. He then took me down to the perfumery and showed me around and offered me the job. I was so suprised, it was such an odd situation and I felt uneasy. I asked for a day to think about it and he left. As I was leaving, a girl from one of the other perfume counters, discreetly called me over, and told me what a real creep the boss was and the girl that had left had a lot of trouble with him and ended up leaving. The whole time she was smiling and showing me a perfume bottle while talking. She was very nervous about being caught telling me that. Obviously I didn't take the job...thank goodness!

Have you ever thought of perhaps writing a book? Doesn't have to be a hundred pages, maybe even 30 pages, under a pseudonym, if you don't want your name revealed. It could be a book many people could read and relate to. No one should ever go through what you experienced, you must be a very strong person.

    Being given the role as a buyer for a large department store at 16 yo should have been your parents (yes your parents) first and biggest clue that something was wrong! Took me years to become a buyer. When I hear stories like this, the parents need to take some responsibility! These weren’t parents living on a farm - they were experienced and they should’ve known better. Doesn’t make her less of a victim - it just shouldn’t have taken place to begin with.

    I use to think like some of the people in these comments, but you can never underestimare the power of shame, fright and intimidation.
    One day I was watching a programme where a lady had been SA and I commented "Why doesn't she tell someone, if that happened to one of my relatives Id be able to tell" at that point my mother confided in me that she had been R'd by a neighbour years prior whilst we as children we're at school when he had visited the house to do some DIY for her. I was shocked and devestated to think we had lived doors away from this man for years and that she had endured that and had to go on as normal without help or support. I begged my mum to go to the police but he had told her that no one would believe her and she felt great shame. My mum died with that secret and I am in a catch 22 as the monster is still alive but we come from a small town and my brother knows a lot of people so word would get around quickly if I confronted him or he was arrested for it.
    My brother has a family and if he finds out will go to prison over it. I won't allow his life to be ruined over a POS.

    There are a lot of people who should be answering for this - all the men who worked at Harrods, the police, politicians at the time etc. This isn't a case where women only spoke out after the perpetrator's death. Some of them spoke out all along and reported what he did to them to the police, but no-one acted on it and helped them because he was such a rich man. The idea of losing a job at a prestigious company shouldn't be a problem, but it is often seen to be. Wealth shouldn't automatically give someone power, but he was allowed the power to be above the law by the political and justice systems. This needs to end. I hope his survivors do get some justice.

      @yzolakitchi 20 днів тому +2

      @@lovesmealways6825 It's not about nepotism as some have suggested, and it's not about parents not taking an interest. This is around 20 years ago. I'm in my late 40s and I know back in my twenties and younger, many of my friends had some serious responsibilities in jobs that by today's standards, they probably wouldn't or shouldn't have. Opening and closing stores alone, taking on buying responsibilities etc. But again, it's missing the point asking about jobs or parents. This all comes down to grooming and HIM as a predator. No parent should have to question whether their child is 'safe' in their job from SA from the boss or colleagues. Being promoted, advancing in a career, having increased responsibility are all celebrated when working. And this was a job she had always wanted, (fashion buying) why would those who loved her not be proud of her achievements. So again, the nepotism argument, should be looked at from a different angle - Al Fayed using her dad's fame and the allure of Harrods to work his way into her life from a young age. Setting the stage for her not feeling threatened around him, as she referenced. This is all about the SA abuser. Always. It's what they do, and they are very, very good at making it all seem really natural and non-threatening. There would be no reason at the time to think anything untoward was happening, no matter how junior or senior she was. So I hope that clarifies my thoughts on placing the focus elsewhere in this scenario. Not said with anger or disgust, just a concern that the ONLY issue is that he was a serial abuser and that the store knew and covered it up. A true horror that so many staff were abused by him.

      @@yzolakitchiI’m not disagreeing that what he has done is horrific and this should be spoken about, however what I will say is as a parent I will ALWAYS question if my child is safe and that’s why I couldn’t comprehend that neither parent didn’t question the amount of responsibility given to a 16 year old! But I think bianca is extremely brave speaking out about this and I am sorry this happened to her many times we have heard predators target families who they think they can also groom when it comes to children so I just think parents need to always be aware of situations children are put in because at 16 she was a child

    I was sexually harassed in the workplace by my then boss & proprietor on my first day at work, 33 years ago. It was horrendous. I was too scared to go back there & never went back. I told my dad through my tears. We got a solicitor through the law society, went to tribunal & I won my case. It was such a scary time. I was in all of the press about winning my case. I know why many women don’t do anything at the time, & I understand it. Reporting at the time, although hard, is always the better option, if possible 🙏

    People don't always understand why young folks don't talk about such abuse. I used to work for a company where the owner would call a lot of the girls to his office to so called, " talk about their work and future with the company". I was smart enough to not to give in, but the fact that you were called to his office, gave the other staff members the impression you were having an affair with this person because others were actually doing it. It was never discussed, because people were afraid of losing their jobs, and this was a third world country that poverty was rampant, and jobs were scarce.
