- The OBC performing Memory at the 1983 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This was another one that I hadn't seen clipped on yt before, so I felt I should do that.
Fun Fact! Victoria did originally sing the part that Sillabub usually has in Memory at the beginning of the Original Broadway Run. By the time of this performance that had already changed, but since they were lipsyncing to the album version of the song which included Cynthia Onrubia (who played Victoria) singing the part, they had her lipsync it here instead of Sillabub.
This is my NYC. The Thanksgiving Parade was a celebration, not an ad festival. I was blessed to see this original cast on Broadway. New York City Forever.
No one does it like Betty!!!! GOOSEBUMPS
yes
No one compares to Betty! No one! The singing, the acting, simply incomparable. Purrfect performance! She is Grizabella! The most powerful voice that effortlessly belts out to your soul. Not an easy task to do starting from a crouched position. How fantastic as part of the macys Thanksgiving parade! ❤
Her vibrato is pure perfection lol I could nvr
Whenever I think of this beautiful song, I want to hear Betty Buckley sing it. She has ruined me forever on anyone else singing it. Fantastic!
Yes I do adore Hether Headley's rendition and Nicole's version from the Pussy Cat Dolls
As many times as I've seen this, I still get goosebumps every time. I saw her in this role in 1984 and it is one of the most precious memories I've ever had.
The very pretty and extremely talented singer, actress, dancer and performer Betty Buckley is the best and the one and only Grizabella ever! Brilliant performance of her signature song "Memory" at the 1983 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! I love it! Betty Buckley received the Tony Award for best actress in a Broadway musical in 1983 for Cats! I love it! I was born in the very late fall of 1978. I saw Betty Buckley in the National tour of Hello, Dolly at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville, Kentucky! She was the best Dolly ever! Thank you for posting and sharing this classic performance!
This is actually better than the movie version with having the Cats pop up around the city
it IS cool!!
cant believe they actually let them get thru the whole thing. These days they would have shushed them along for one of the 10000 commercial breaks they need to fit in before the marching band that traveled 2000 miles gets to be on screen for 30 seconds
4:19 always has been my favorite. She belts it like no other, imo.
Betty Buckley…so dear to our heart! Thank you! ♥️Xxxooo
Remember watching this when it originally aired---couldnt believe it was Abby from Eight is Enough. Mesmerizing.
A most amazing voice. Thank you, Betty Buckley, for sharing your beautiful gift with the world.
This was the very first thing my grandmother ever recorded on her new VCR, the day after she bought it and was trying to stop being afraid of it. I watched that ancient tape for this scene a dozen times. It was lost in a move, so thank you so much for this. Great to see it again. Never take it down!
Best Broadway show tune ever. Hands down.
Betty Buckley is the beat and the one and only Grizabella!
Betty Buckley is best Grizabella Ever!
Thank you all who have posted their feelings towards this exceptional unmatched woman singing a most beautiful song in this awesome performance: you have made me realize that I am not crazy at all
Betty Buckley was the best. Stunning voice touched people’s heart ❤
This is fantastic! I've listened to every version of Memory by every artist who has performed it and Betty Buckley knocks each one out of the park....Fantastic Performance, just the best!
I saw it with Liz Calloway as Grizabella and she knocked it out of the park and beyond.
Listening to this one and to the Tony awards performance are both so striking. Her makeup changed slightly and they gave Victoria Jemima's part of Daylight.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! 😻
I loved how there were cats on the balcony and the buildings
yes! That was awesome
You don’t have to choose one btw, you can love the Elaine and Betty versions without dissing the other
Betty is unreal
I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS
Damn u old
BB IS the Empress of this song.
Betty Buckley is Perfect!
Betty makes belting look so easy.
Ah... Betty Buckley... THE BEST !
Thanks for uploading this. I kept meaning to, and never got it off my other computer.
Bryant Gumbel totally called this in. The whole parade. 😹.
I forgot to mention how much I love seeing Marlene Danielle as Demeter in this clip!
thanks keep Cats coming
Now if they did a cats live like that it would've been great.
Did they really just stick Skimbleshanks in the sewer?
Yeee
He’s very nimble.
no thats the Subway tunnel
edit: because he’s the railway cat
❤❤
Broadway production.
Dark elk 84
How on earth did this newscaster ever make it? ?? Bryan-something and he's the
most boring person on this planet.
Worst musical EVER, saved by this BRILLIANT song! I remember watching this performance LIVE on TV. Thanks for taking me back in time.
Worst? Nah man if you think it’s a bad one then complain to T.S Eliot the one who made the cats and their songs but he’s dead so oof
How can you say that when Be More Chill exists?
no argument one song one show
Seven Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL…Ran for 18+ years and STILL sells out around the world…if this is the “WORSE” musical ever, i have a bridge to sell you. 🙄
ABSOLUTE worse. « Titanic » was a hit film and yet, horrible. Stupid and gullible people buy the hype. As for always being « sold out » that too is a lie. In London the guide told us back in 1993 that rich theatre patrons buy up all the tickets so they can boast it keeps selling out, but look around at all the EMPTY SEATS!!!
ZERO plot! « I’m a cat and I’m singing! Meow, meow! »
« I’m another cat and I’m singing too! Meow, meow! »
This is the song that saves this crap heap.
am I the only one that doesn't like ballads??
