I remember Christopher Nolan talking about his Batman films and how he said he was only going to do 3 and that was it. He said something like the stories and characters can just go on and on in the comics because it's a different kind of medium, but it just doesn't work on film. He was 💯 correct!
Nah, these stories don’t work because they are poorly written, not because of the medium. If you translated the MCU into comic form it wouldn’t magically become good just because it’s comics.
Nolan was correct about Cinema. But for streaming services, demanding a bunch of new series every 6 months, cheap cookie cutters comic strip stories are perfect. Ultimately it destroys its own market, tho.
“I was floating face down in my local duck pond when two thoughts occurred to me: it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a new Marvel movie and I’m totally fine with that.” You said that about Phase 4… and it applies equally well to Phase 5.

was for me too untill i heard about blade and that indifference turned into anger really quickly Disney's mission to molest my childhood over and over is getting rather annoying please leave cult classics like blade alone for fuck sake
I actually think some of the problems the MCU has are similar to something like Dragon Ball. Obviously not the pandering but the fact that they have to keep raising the stakes to a world or universe ending threat that it kinda loses meaning after a while and makes it harder for you to tell a more personal story or make a weaker hero
Depends how it's done. I've read the Secret Wars comics by Jonathan Hickman (and the Avengers runs leading to it). Trust me, if they adapt correctly, you will have weak heroes and personnal meaning, even with a Bigger menace.
That's the problem with any franchise that runs for too long. Stargate: SG1 did it back in the day. Supernatural, same thing. It's the inevitable result when your plan is "let's keep making more of this as long as it keeps making money" rather than "let's plan a story with a beginning, middle and end, and when it concludes, move on to something else entirely". It's the reason most anime (DBZ notwithstanding) is so good: in 6, 13 or 26 episodes, they tell the entire story. They don't keep milking it after they ran out of inspiration; they come up with something new, and that gets their creative juices flowing again.
Only less interesting, I spent 2 hours fishing in okami and I still felt more satisfied than watching any of the phase 4 movies. On a side note: okami Amaterasu > any mcu god.
Phase 5 is "The Grind" where we grind repeatable material for some minor upgrade end goal while hating the existence of continued playing, all while waiting for something better.
Only Spiderman and maybe Deadpool Phase 4 could fit into a good phase after Endgame and it is like playing side quest after beating a game that took 100+ hours and unlocking most costumes and all characters and playing with a crappy side boss as a hero that no one cares about in the main game.

There are a lot of characters that would actually sell if written to the spirit of the comic books. The decline is the fault of Disney, not the fault of the genre.
@@DeadpoolX9 Silver Surfer, Skaar, Guardians 3000, The Elders, Doc Samson, Blue Marvel, Ares, Beta Ray Bill, Quasar, Moondragon, Nova, Squadron Supreme, Gladiator, Man-thing, Night Thrasher, original new warriors, West Coast Avengers is a short list of options.
But they are being written to the spirit of the comic books. Problem is, that spirit is from the modern era of the comic books. The era where white, male heroes are either killed off to make way for a more "diverse" replacement or randomly made gay when there was no supporting evidence for the shift. And it's not just Disney. Same thing is happening over at DC.
That's how I feel about X-Men, it was always my jam. I'm sure they're going to F it up. Now I'll never get to see the X-Men from the comics done well as a film. 😕 Some of those Fox X-Men movies were okay, Logan was great. Those weren't the characters from the comics though. To me, they were just kind of based on them. I think perhaps this whole superhero movies phenomenon thing has run its course anyway.
@@christopherantoine9657 Did you read my comment? I literally mentioned those movies. Idk what that has to do with the MCU making X-Men movies, anyway. The ones Fox made are irrelevant regarding what the MCU does with the property. If Marvel Studios were to make great X-Men films, it's not as if we would enjoy them any less due to the Fox films being bad. I thought a couple of the Fox X-Men movies were okay anyway. I think Logan is one of the best films ever based on a comic book character. It and Joker would be in my top 3 movies based on comic characters, ever. My thing is, they were never actually the characters from the comics in the first place. Batman is the best example of that. As many films that we've gotten based on that character, we've never gotten a good representation of what I consider the character to be. They range in quality from great to terrible, but they've never nailed the character from the comics, the way the MCU did in the beginning with their characters. I thought that was the perfect balance of staying true to the comics but changing the things that didn't translate from the page to the screen well. This last Batman film was okay, but far too grounded in the real world, for me. In my opinion, grounding any superhero character in the real world is totally missing the point of the characters. If you put Batman or any of them in the real world, it's utterly ridiculous and laughable. All that said, at the end of the day, it's all just disposable entertainment that isn't important, at all. All our opinions are valid and not worth being rude to each other over. It's fun to debate though. Sorry I went on a mini-rant there. 😆
So let me get this straight: a bunch of characters that couldn't sell comic books but were subsidized by the nascent comic book film industry are now being moved into the film medium so that they can not sell films. Who is that stupid? How can anyone think this is a good idea?!
All they know is "the peasants like superheroes", so they make more of that. They don't even know what a superhero is, other than "weird powers, weird clothes".
Im not sure it was ever supposed to be accurate to nordic methology, i could be wrong tho. That being said i thought the new thor movie was mediocre at best and i hope phase 6 never comes. I already found phase 4 a spit in the face to every mcu fan out there and i hope this bs ends soon.
Phases 1-3 felt like they were building up to something grand, and it did and it was awesome. - Phase 1 got us introduced to our heroes and have them United on a team, meanwhile a big bad is mustering his plans. - Phase 2, through some hiccups, had our team stripped of its strength and question if they are really the good guys, while a bigger threat grows in the stars. - Phase 3, most of the cards are played, Thanos is here and he won. It took great sacrifice on the part of the heroes to beat him and they won by the skin of their teeth. - Phase 4:. . . . THE MESSAGE!!!
@@flamingosoup6375 nope he means new heroes i haven't seen one Mary sue and I've watched everything (if you read comics then Wanda ain't even close to how powerful she is there, she hulk is always more agile than hulk just not physically stronger)
Ironheart is just……….. the idea that it gets its own film over the hundreds of fan favorites ahead of it is an excellent example of Disney being more interested in its agenda rather than delivering what most fans want.
Also, I NEVER understand this argument. Disney's "agenda" is, always has been, and always will be to make boatloads of money. Anyone else thinking they give two hoots about diversity, inclusiveness, minorities, women, [insert agenda here] are delusional and should be taken seriously
@@SiroBenju The argument stems from the fact that their focus on forcing the agenda is gradually costing them lots of money and will continue to damage their properties. One need look no further than Star Wars. That one is absolutely prioritizing agenda over story and money, has been since TFA. It makes no sense and it's costing them money, but they still keep doing it no matter what the audience says.
The one bitter sweet thing about the death of Stan Lee is that he saw the beauty of his creations turned into legendary movies and didn't have to watch his life's work and passion devolve into what it's become today... and what is yet to come looks even worse.

Disneys “pile it high, sell it cheap” approach to all of their IPs has been a tragedy. They rip the heart and soul out of everything they touch and leave us with derivative, vapid, and forgettable “content” that insults the makers and fans of the originals.
And they bury the shows that people actually want and that are good, because they don't give the expected return. Remember what happened to the Owl House? Or Raya and the last Dragon? They just throw the one thing that they're good at under the hammer to derive the assets from those movies and shows to chug into the marvel furnace. Now people that actually like Disney's animated movies suffer just as much as Marvel fans.
Yup, I saw something a while back that Christopher Paolini the author for Eragon was talking to Disney about remaking the movie and instantly knew they'd probably somehow make it worse than the first try at the movie adaptation.
And the few times their TV Animation division creates something with actual heart in it, the parent company kills it for "not fitting the Disney ™ brand" or some such BS.
Funny how everyone hated John Walker, a soldier who was only doing his job but never talks about Karli who murdered dozens of innocent civilians. And even defended Wanda who is literally a monster.
I swear, in so many of the actor's interviews, they CONSTANTLY compliment Kevin Feige and call him a genius. I wonder how they feel now that he's allowed the writers to absolutely demolish the characters that made them famous to begin with

I think the MCU broke a very big rule they, of all people, should know well: patience. When Avengers came to an end MCU needed to do a full-stop. Fans needed time to relax, breathe (for god’s sake) and then wonder what’s next. You have to make fans wonder what’s next. Let me just say ya keep them wanting more by making them wait. Anyone else here relate to that?
Absolutely. I'm old enough to remember the three-year wait between Star Wars movies, then nothing on the big screen for 16 or so years. Made anticipation a serious benefit.
Exactly why I gave up. I accepted after Endgame the quick release of Spiderman: Far From Home which seemed like a nice little epilogue to Endgame. Then I stopped caring because, like you say, instead of pausing to let me digest the last 10+ years of films, they just threw out crap after crap after crap that was impossible to keep up with.
It’s not just that, Disney needs to give them time to polish everything. Even though I still liked phase 4, I could tell they kept going for quality over quantity
"It happened to westerns. It happened to war movies" Good point. Further, when a western is made now, there is no push to rush it. There are some quality westerns made recently (Bone Tomahawk, Ballad of Lefty Brown, Assassination of Jesse James, etc). Giving a genre time to fade can mean some chance at quality in the future.
I wanted Bucky to have the shield, I figured it would be cool to try and become a better man with the opportunity from cap to take up the mantle as he struggles to become a beacon of light contrasted by his dark winter soldier past.
I disagree, Bucky is better when he works alone. Captain America prefers to work as a team. Falcon fits the role better since he’s also good in a team and worse alone.
You know, as a kid i never thought 'hey blade is black how revolutionary' i always just saw him as a badass. While representation is important, making good stuff should come first.
@@cetus835 Yr right that it's unnatural to have every character white. We know the characters came from a time in history were the culture that was actually racist, so that part makes sense, but that doesn't mean we should still follow it. I would rather argue that marvel doesn't have any charismatic pillar characters, that's hard to get but necessary. Marvel has no Robert downey jrs. or Chris Eva- ..well the character was cooler than the actor on that part but at least he had the vibe of the character.
The sad part is that the decline was avoidable. The problem with the MCU Phase 4 forward wasn't caused by fatigue with the superhero genre, it was caused by a mega-corporation choosing to hire diversity-based creators on their skin color, genitals or sexual preferences instead of great directors and writers with a history of success. Untalented creators create bad products. Also, attacking the core fan-base is bad for business. Who would've guessed?
No there absolutely a fatigue going on with Superhero movies, especially around Phase 3. But what everyone is sick of is “bad fan-fiction” fatigue because that’s what this phase is. And it’s what driving Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek and countless other franchises into the ground. Why else do you think Top Gun 2 did so fucking well?
Bunch of nonsense. It's because all these stories are basically the same. And we're being OVERSATURATED. A bit odd that people can handle characters from all sorts of planets, with every manner of back story, but what they CAN'T handle, apparently, is...gay? Or something? Or trans?? You crybabies are the only ones who care.
Also skipping years of successful comic story lines they could have used to get to the modern stuff that was financially challenged even in comic book form.
@@pkmcburroughs You fundamentally misunderstand the point. The problem isn't that there are diverse characters, but that these comic companies feel compelled to turn all their straight characters gay. It's as Rippa says, they only see real legitimacy in established white straight characters, and so they gender-, race-, and sexuality-swap existing characters in order to try to garner that legitimacy. Plus, when they make characters centered around race, gender, or sexuality these days, they tend to center the stories around those characteristics, such that those characteristics become the only thing important about those characters. In other words, it's TOKENISM, not genuine diversity. And people - even genuine LGBTQ+ people - are getting tired of it. I mean, seriously, "Snowflake and Safespace"? Who in the world thought these would be great characters to represent LGBTQ+? Probably the same people who thought that awful Miles Morales Thor was an accurate representation of African-Americal culture.
The reason why, I think, superheroes from the early MCU were so enjoyed is because they all had human flaws. Iron-Man had an ego problem with father issues, Captain America won the war but lost the girl and is grieving over Bucky, Thor doesn’t fit with regular society, and Hulk is a frail man one minute but then a /hulking/ giant
They’re scared of making flawed/weak characters. The reason why I loved daredevil so much is because no only does Matt get his ass beat pretty often, he’s clearly a flawed human being. But new marvel products try to make every character perfect from the start, key example is captain marvel. It’s just boring
@@eanderson9599 they are definitely afraid of making a flawed female hero or even villain. They feared the backlash of Scarlet Witch going crazy because it would paint a mother in negative light. Can’t have woman looking bad even if that is literally her character.
The sad part of it all is how people will view future shows with woke mcs Instead of curiosity and intrigue for the show itself, the question will now be "Who wrote this" or "What was the current events when this was written" as a way to do a rough check if the show will be fun or not
There's nothing wrong with that though. It's called critical thinking. In the entertainment industries there's a lot of actors (not just the cinema actors, I mean people working in those fields) who are playing activists to a nauseous degree. So now I boycott if I deem their activism taints their products. Jada Smith has released a documentary with _intentional_ blackwashing: boom, I boycott. Neil Druckman destroyed the characters of TLOU in the second game ; boom, boycotted the TV series. Game Freak released a Pokemon game with literally nothing to do outside the main missions : boom, I boycott the next games. People vote with their wallets. That's common sense in a Society where money rules. So people can't be blamed for boycotting people they don't trust.
Not if they just keep making things worse and worse until in 2050 we are looking back on these as masterpieces in comparison. That's how it worked with Star Wars. 2035: "at least then they were only insinuating that males were weak, bad and stupid, not actually screaming it in our faces and making the whole point of the film to beat down and subjugate villainous white males to deafening applause". I have a feeling it's only going to get much worse, and not just in films. We will be pretty lucky if we don't end up in actual "reeducation camps ", one way or another. It has happened before and it can happen again.
The greatest thing about purveyors of "The Message" is that, if given time and left to their own devices, they will eventually devour each other. It's already beginning.
The great irony is that Marvel has a lot of great, diverse characters, but they’re mostly in the X-Men. If they really cared about Marvel’s legacy they would have started working on those movies as soon as they heard about the Fox deal. Instead they let their egos take over and chose to focus on characters that are “theirs”. An origin movie about Storm or Rogue or Bishop would have done amazing. But no, we need characters that Disney thinks they can manipulate and reconstruct/deconstruct without those pesky fans getting in the way. They’ll get what they want, because no one will be there to see it.
And whats worse is instead of choosing an existing awesome character such as the ones you mentioned, we will end up with black wolverine or asian magneto. Hell, I wouldnt rule out female or trans Xavier at this point.
@@TheRealSlimsagey7 I could see a Disney executive misquoting you on this comment and saying "See? Even critical drinker fans want a trans professor X! The fans are clamoring for it!!!"

Imagine if there were actually competition between Marvel & DC to see who could make the best movies & TV shows? Seems more like a competition to see who could put out the most crap and get away with it.
WB screwed up DC on film from the get-go. They never even had a chance to properly cash-in on the superhero fad since they have seen plenty of flops, underperformers and the black hole of money that was Justice League.
The DCU is awful (aside from the Snyder Cut, which I enjoyed), but pretty much all their other stuff is terrific: Injustice, Teen Titans: Judas Contract, Joker, The Batman … All A-Class.
Doom Patrol is fairly good, though there is some woke idiocy. Peacemaker is good. But overall DC is still in a worse place than Marvel. Give it a year.
Not only is the Endgame build up with the heroes we love gone, they’ve also way over saturated the market, partially with the mediocre shows that mostly feature B-List heroes we already know, so the movies with new characters aren’t getting as much attention anymore. They could possibly kick off a fun new era with the X-men that could open the door for a couple of new, potentially interesting franchises from well established characters, but instead, they just keep teasing it with no results.
Honestly, phase 4 is doing a terrible job of balancing the pre-existing characters and the new ones. You have projects like Black Widow, Black Panther WF, Thor LAT, LOKI, WandaVision, and Doctor Strange MoM that everybody was excited about. The return of beloved characters who people wanted to learn more about. Then you have projects like Shang Chi, Eternals, Ms Marvel, She Hulk, and Moonknight. Which are cool, sure, but are way too many new characters. In each previous phase, there were no more than 4 new character movies created. In phase 4, we already have 5 (and that's not even including all the side characters that got spin-off shows). And sure, it's always fun to see our favourite underrated comic book heroes come to life and get the attention they deserve, but the MCU isn't the comics. They can't afford to keep pumping out these no-name superheroes, because people will get bored. All that to say that Marvel needs to remember to develop their characters, not replace them. Give our favourite MCU characters logical character arcs and stick to them (we're looking at you Wanda, Doctor Strange and Loki) or give us what we really want: Xmen. Stop it with these mediocre, copy-paste heroes who all struggle with identity (Seriously, it's in literally 90% of the recent phase 4 projects). Thank you for listening to my ted talk
The shows will come back to bite them in the ass. Most people watching these films aren't watching the supplementary material and so they'll be asking why Loki is alive after he died in Endgame, why there's a genderbent version of him, why Wanda is referencing this weird TV sitcom universe she created,

Wasn't it rumored they wanted to replace him as Black Panther in the sequel just before his surprising death? I think Disney would have had Shuri replace him in BP2 even if he hadn't passed away.
You realise he must have been casted in the role around 2014-15 and he found out about it in 2016. Indeed. It's not all about the politics, although that's obviously a problem. There is a reason comics reboot regularly. If anything, they should have avoided the "passing the torch" shit from the previous Avengers and just started over--new takes, with new actors, on the same basic characters.
@@BWMagus that strategy seems to have worked out alright for batman. There's a ton of animated batman series and content that each show a different side of a character who everyone is somewhat familiar with. This is also true for live action (although somewhat less). One of the reasons I generally gravitate toward DC (especially batman) instead of marvel is that the characters can tell a story that needs to be heard, but the mcu versions of the characters are no longer doing that, so they aren't giving people any substance to make them want more.
You know all of the “representation” that they have now in phase 5 is meaningless when the characters or storylines are shit. I can guarantee that Riri will either be just as if not smarter than Tony without any of the character flaws that made him a compelling character to begin with.
Well of course. That's how she is in the comics. She literally got mad that her teacher said she could do anything she wanted. Yes, she was pissed off that her teacher supported her and demanded that teacher tell her she "couldn't be Tony" just so she could "prove her wrong." It's really, really sad.
To me, she's not the next Iron Man. She's just a replacement because Disney is spreading the message of woke agendas and more female empowerment. Peter or Morgan should have been Iron Man's successor instead of someone like Riri. Riri Williams is just a cheap knockoff and poorly written Marry Sue who should never exist and should never have given the torch in the first place because she never earned it, and it was cheap lazy writing for someone who showed up out of nowhere and claimed to be the next Iron Man when someone else has a much better shot to be his successor in the MCU, especially in the comics when you can have anyone who is the closest to Tony Stark should have been his successor instead of someone like Riri Williams.

Yep. Marvel has about 60 years of great stories to pull from, yet they choose to pull from the worst era of comics. The era of comics that produces woke crap that is literally killing Marvel Comics. 20 years ago, 100k sales was considered average numbers for a book. Now a book that sells 100k is the white buffalo of comics.
While I do not care for RiRi (I mean she was created by Bendis, and not named 'Miles Morales' so of course she sucks) but I'm actually okay with Starks daughter not inheriting the Ironman title as if it was some kind Title of Nobilty passed on from generation to generation. I think Tony Stark would want someone who holds his ideals, mechanical and engineering genius. I'm sure his daughter is talented but that does'nt mean she inherited Stark's qualities that made him Ironman. Furthermore who would want that bullshit for their child? If it's not corrupt bussiness partners making deals with terrorist to kill you, it's cosmic alien voices in your head threatening to come down and kill all you know and love, capped off with self sacrifice at the end. No, no one should want that for their children, and I think a child NOT following in their parent's foot steps is realistic, otherwise we'd all live in a caste system. If the're REALLY going to use RiRi and she's a character created by Bendis, then it's a rare exception were I think they should get further away from the source material.
Disney must be stopped. They seem to be trying to destroy as many iconic characters as they can, as fast as they can. It's just an endless stream of diarrhea that they're spraying across all screens & pages.
They will be stoppet only when the blind slaves will start to develop a consciousness (hard to believe) and realize what is happening to them. But it's hard to believe that it will ever happen. The generic MCU fan is not a movie fan and has not seen a movie older than the 2000s or 90s. They don't even know how to analyze or describe a movie. Disney uses a form of media totalitarianism. It is something different, new, that will dominate the future in art. Manipulation masked by emotion. You feel something, you go to the movies. That's how they work. This is how the payer gets caught in the net.

The problem is that these are no longer super hero films. Heroes are about self-sacrifice, overcoming great odds, and the journey from their flawed selves to become something greater. Something we all want to be. We do not want to be what Marvel has turned these characters into. Marvel has actually turned these characters into those things we don't want to become. self-absorbed, arrogant, and petty.

And don’t forget how Tony’s ridiculous idea of putting an armor around the world resulted in Ultron and the Sokovia Accords that ruined things; it took many years for him to make amends and regain his teammates’ respect, and the ultimate sacrifice he made basically cemented his redemption for past stupidity.
Hearing they were planning on continuing Daredevil's story made me so excited initially, but then I thought about how they have been slowly but surely destroying characters I used to love and now I'm just a little sad. The tonal difference between the original show and Marvel's current cartoonish humor is also too great just like with Blade. Rip Daredevil Rip Blade you will be missed

I feel like it’s a combination of pushing “the message” and an attempt to get cheaper actors because let’s be Honest RDJ And Chris Evans get paid a lot for even their smaller appearances in the MCU like Homecoming and Ant Man
Ever think how they make these movies and shows without seemingly never breaking even? They don't make these movies to make money. They have outside sources funding the movies and don't care about profits as long as they can brainwash the masses with The Message. If they make some money while doing so? A nice bonus.
wrong. it's too push the far left agenda to the MCU that has big audience. some is from the comics while others are original. characters like Riri Williams that will replace Iron Man, Falcon that replaced Captain America, etc have been done in comics when the SJWs invaded and took over comics and started pushing their agenda in comics and these characters are been brought to MCU that has bigger audience than comics. what profit the Marvel comics make in 1 year they can make a few hundreds of millions of $$$$ more with 1 movie. all the monthly comics in 2021 made around $400 million. the profit that comes from Marvel comics is not even half, so with 1 movie they can make more profit while also pushing their far left agenda

The lack of a defined, impending threat to the Marvel universe is definitely crippling their momentum. They're just running on fumes at this point and it's not helped by films like Thor: Love and Thunder where pretty much every character treats the central threat of a story like a complete joke. It’s crazy to see how long this story has been going. When Iron Man was released, George W. Bush was the president! I certainly didn’t think a movie about a superhero would have turned into this. On the flip side, I can’t imagine anyone during the height of the MCU thought it would quickly turn into this mess after Endgame. How the mighty have fallen.
I wish after Endgame, they would slow things down and start to focus on how the Snap has impacted the world and the lives of everyone. Then, by 2022, they can start focusing on the multiverse saga. With No way Home being the entry into the saga.
@@rulu1828 Don't be sad. Be happy you got to experience some of the greatest superhero movies in theaters. Blade and Spider-Man in theaters were great times.
I think it really goes to show how amazing of an actor Robert Downey Jr really was. He and Chris Evans really carried the MCU on their shoulders with Hemsworth being a distant third. Tony Stark for his ingenuity and charm and Cap for his morals. Once they left, the MCU was left with zero ingenuity, zero charm, and zero morals. And so it stands today...
Yes the Iron Man / Captain America relationship was really the heart of the entire saga, two very different attitudes to being a "hero", initially quite an antagonistic relationship to the point where they end up leading the different sides in Civil War but ultimately reconcile and work together to defeat the greater threat in Infinity War and End Game. It's interesting that although Cap is the traditional hero it's actually Stark who ends up selflessly sacrificing himself to save the world. With that dynamic gone the MCU and Disney do just seem to be freewheeling at the moment without any ideas as to what they can do to create a compelling central story that will keep people interested.
Thankful for this channel. Almost every other YT channel keeps talking about how hyped they are for Phase 5. Probably because they'll have to review actual movies if Disney were to ever stop making these
How tf everyone developed amnesia is astounding to me… we’ve sat through a WHOLE PHASE of movies and shows that have been mediocre - in hopes they get better - but all of a sudden.. this is promising?
Glad someone else remembers blade. Still recall all the articles when black panther came out about 1st black helmed superhero movie. Amd all I could think was... poor Wesley Snipes. Can't even get a nod.
I think The Boys is a sort of sign of the times. A show largely in part making fun of the superhero genre and blowing it so far out of proportion, becoming so popular, has to reflect people’s views of the genre.
I'm a Babylon 5 fan and was always surprised when people attacked the idea of having a single story arc over multiple seasons where characters changed throughout. Then a few years later more TV shows started doing it. When the Marvel movies started doing the same I was really chuffed thinking that the characters I loved would grow and evolve given the events from each movie. Then End game passed and suddenly, very noticeably these characters were deconstructed and become little more than jokes, comic fillers, stupid simpletons lacking the most basic common sense. Each new show and movie they were leached off to make the new leads look superior without any development. They were better because they JUST ARE. The lack in creativity, story arc, character development is just so blatant and all but smashed in your face to accept. Hopefully a drop in revenue will make them realise that spending time on something to make it good is a better investment than just churning out trite.
Speaking of B5, I guess you already heard that JMS has plans to reboot the franchise? I wonder how that's going to turn out. Big part of what made the original great were strong performances by great actors, and the chemistry between the cast. Something hard to reproduce with the "talent" available today. Just hope it won't be a convoluted wokefest like Sense8 was. Although that was a collaboration with Lana Wachowski, so I'm not entirely sure how much of the blame can be laid at JMS' feet.
I heard many great things about B5 and look forward to watching it as my attention is now on things that are not today. As a Farscape fan, I can relate to what good storytelling and character development should be like.
@@EvenTheDogAgrees Yes and I have my concerns. There is a facebook group that is keeping an eye on it and it has the odd update from JMS himself. If he has control of the series then it could be good. If that control is limited then it will be bad. In the last few months quite a few of the people who worked on the original have passed away from writers, directors and guest stars including David Warner. He (JMS) has apparently finished the writing of the pilot script and story.
The thing I've always disliked the most of the MCU is the humor that feels so forced and uncomfortable. At least with Ironman you had somewhat clever humor which actually worked (imo), perhaps in part of Roberts incredible acting and charisma when executing said humor. I feel like they can create a really compelling story but it gets bogged down but some serious shit and some awful jokes that take me out of it entirely. Which is why I personally think Thanos was the saving grace of the series and by far its greatest villain.
I just finished playing Guardians of the Galaxy on PS5 and I was surprised how restrained the game was with the jokes. They actually allowed emotional and serious scenes be emotional and serious. The jokes were in places where it made sense, not shoved everywhere.
The main problem is Robert Downey Jr invented that formula. Only Robert Downey Jr can do Robert Downey Jr. Then they killed him off and are trying to rub that 'formula' onto their other characters. And they're finding it just doesn't work, because they don't understand it. They just see interchangeable bodies and can't comprehend the idea that they binned off their most valuable asset in Endgame and can't replicate the lightning in a bottle as easily as they thought.
One of the things I really wanna see is how humanity adjusted to all of this, like we could have a short series of it y'know? What are the laws, basic actions against super powered villains, is there some kind of counter against superpowers if or when the heroes are gone? I remember there being the Inhuman arc hope that becomes a thing.
Poetic, that the final shot in this video is Toby Maguire's Peter Parker walking away after throwing away his Spiderman costume, symbolic of how Marvel has thrown away nearly everything that made it magical, entertaining, fun, and inspirational.

Ah, yes. An Ironheart series. Because we all know how popular she was at her debut. People were trampling over each other rushing to the comic book shelves to get their copies of Ironheart. Not a single negative opinion or criticism surrounding *her*
You know what sucks in hindsight? If Yinsen's family wasn't already killed off, we could have gotten his daughter in some armor. I would prefer either her or Rhodey to try and take Tony's mantle.
I say let them go all out with the wokeness. Doing that will accelerate Marvel's downfall and we'll either get the return of good writing or just the outright death of the franchise. Honestly I'm good with either one.
My crazy theory is that's Disney's plan is to throw so much woken garbage that even the wokiest of the woke will be beging them to stop and then they will finally be able to do the movies people actually want and not what their "social advisors" tell them to do. Current phase is a chemo to cure the cancer that is overpoliticized Hollywood.
It would have been SO easy to 'therefore' a phase 4 after Endgame without escalating. Thanos is gone? That's great, because he was a villain, but he was ALSO keeping all the smaller villains across the galaxy in check. And now NOTHING is keeping them in check. The obvious consequence of the end of Thanos is a gang war on a galactic scale. None of them need to be a 'big bad', but on a tiny backwater like Earth they can still seem pretty big and bad. And now you've taken all the excitement from the Infinity Saga and rolled into a 'it's not over yet!'. But that would require some level of writing talent which Hollywood no longer has.
Also just actually spending time going over the consequences of the snaps. It was touched on like twice? 5 years of absence should at LEAST have 5 years of after effects either physical or social. Then there are the ones you can fabricate. Is that stable for the universe? (Maybe use that to make sure that you can't answer any new problem with "well why don't you time travel or go through the multiverse?") Now there are 2x the people that planets were prepared to deal with, at least at that very moment so now what? Earth is now a well known place on a universe scale due to all this, how is that gonna affect earth when its clear that they still do not have space travel down? (not established anyway, the ships they left on were not their own and even if tony were alive you gotta give him at least a couple years.)
Remember phase 1 when Tony realized he was responsible for arming terrorists and couldn't be a playboy anymore? Or when Steve rogers didn't give up even when there was no chance of winning and he succeeded not because of his strength and size but because of his heart? Maybe when thor was stripped of his power and had to overcome his faults as a person and warm back miljnor?

That moment when Tony, for lack of a better word, "becomes" Iron Man, lashing out with his Repulsor at the injustice he's caused before finally choosing to do what's right and be a hero, I don't think we'll see anything like that in the MCU again. As tired as I am with this franchise, that makes me sad, especially thinking about the kids who watch these movies now. They don't have heroes anymore, at least not from Marvel and such.

I have already bought the first edition and can't wait for more. Long live the Rippaverse.
Nothing against a smart girl, who is probably inspired by Tony Stark, but no. She will never replace him. If you really want a female iron man, just wait a couple of years and use Morgan. At least that would be more believeable.
Well I don't know about anyone else, but I personally am very hyped for the "Greg the Shopkeeper" movie, that loveable side character from the Shang Chi spinoff about the dog thing. Phase 69 is looking great so far!
I remember watching Phase 126 where there was a big bang and everything became nothing again, historians say that after this the MCU never got back its footing ever again and was forgotten in 4 years.
Really loving the race-swapping and gender-swapping for the purpose of race-swapping and gender-swapping currently happening. Here's to the white male Shuri!
The movies are only adapting what happened in the comics years ago (Sam Wilson as Cap, Jane Foster as Thor, Riri Williams taking over as Iron Man). Granted, at the time, a lot of that didn't make much sense and also felt like blatant pandering to parts of the audience (who probably didn't read comics anyway) instead of "natural" character development that built off what occurred before.
Disney: What’s on the agenda for today everyone? Writers: Swap everything! Fans: How’d that “Lady Thor” movie work out for you? (Has anyone heard Obi Wan is supposedly bi, or bi curious now? Some new prequel novel alludes to it and Twitter creamed itself all at once.)
The strength of the first three phases was seeing characters that have existed for years in the comics exist on the screen in real life, people who have been into comics for years were seeing beloved characters and stories adapted for a modern age, and people with only a passing interest were drawn in by solid writing and a need to watch whatever the next film was as it built towards Infinity Wars/Endgame. Now we've got this directionless post Endgame MCU, which is unsurprising because they have cast off the classic stories of the comic book world. It's not surprising that this downturn is coming by seeing characters that were introduced to replace the classics years after the MCU juggernaut had been set in motion. I remember that people were talking about how they would like to see Bucky take the mantle of Captain America like in the comics after it leaked that Sebastian Stan had a longer contract than Chris Evans. Then Marvel Comics made Sam Wilson Captain America and here we are. It's not a secret that modern comics have taken a rapid downturn in quality and struggled to capture sales and attention, so it's not surprising that it is harming the MCU too.
My issue with what they are currently doing in the MCU is they are focusing on a bunch of new gen heroes that people either don't know, don't care for, or don't like. Instead of, you know, a bunch of iconic classic characters that are still not in.
When the MCU started, it felt like a treat, never done before, where characters FROM OTHER FRANCHISES met and worked together, and weren’t just entities in their own films. It was fresh that Tony Stark wandered into Hulk, and the realisation that these films were linked was a surreal feeling. Now it’s just commonplace, the novelty has gone. Civil War was a Captain America movie, but felt like an Avengers film
Seriously they should just named that movie Avengers: Civil War instead. Nothing else would need to be changed. Cap being a leading character and such would work well. After all Infinity War protagonist was Thanos and it worked well enough without calling the movie "Thanos: Infinity War".

@@chillax319 That's what I'm saying. The fact that it was something new was what kind of distracted people from the fact that from a quality standpoint the MCU was never "peak cinema" like some were making it out to be. Some of the movies did drop the ball and even some of the really good ones did botch certain things. An example is the fact that while Iron Man himself was a good character and definetely had a good arc that ended well in Endgame, the Iron Man sequels were wasted opportunities that adapted certain story elements and arcs from the comics but did nothing with them (the way Iron Man 3 wasted the demon In a bottle storyline was criminal). Iron Man 2 was a movie that was cut down in the editing room to about 2 hours and as a result the movie we got felt empty. The villains of the movie (Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer and especially Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko/Whiplash) are a lot of fun to watch and give good performances. But Justin Hammer himself is written as a bland asshole-in-a-suit caricature that has none of the Intimidation from the comics, and while Ivan Vanko seems to be a very interesting villain he doesn't get enough screentime to shine (Mickey Rourke has admitted that he filmed a lot more scenes in the movie that went into the character's backstory and motivations but were all cut). Iron Man 3 was even worse, cause while Guy Pierce is a good actor the character he's playing is such a pathetic Syndrome-ripoff it's laughable. The whole movie felt like a waste of opportunity and a total bait and switch.
I'm dreading the X-Men introduction. For starters, it'll be X23 instead of Wolverine. Does anyone really think they'll even be called 'X-Men'? With this company?

You know what makes a journey worthwhile? The fact that it fucking ends. I have huge respect for a story that gets in, says what it wanted to say, and gets out. I understand that comic book adaptations, especially in the MCU, are a little different by virtue of their eternal popularity and the massive amount of source material to pull from, but the MCU's reluctance to accept its own death, or at least take a breather to allow the audience's hearts to grow fonder, is starting to verge on pathetic. Plus, they're not even using the best stuff from the source material. The reality is, every franchise dominates the cultural zeitgeist for 5-10 years, then ends and lets a successor take over. The MCU would rather fatigue its audience with a constant stream of CGI blockbuster movies and TV shows featuring scripts that would've benefited from more months of rewrites, whose ultimate destiny is to be dissected by fans on the internet for their underutilised potential, than be brave enough to disappear, or at least take a sharp creative left turn instead of continually piggybacking off the success and name recognition of previously established characters. I'm at the point where, despite being a Marvel/MCU fan, I'm sort of gunning for the next fresh, inventive, non-MCU franchise to come out of nowhere and bury it.
yeah. I mean, look at Gravity Falls. the creator, Alex Hirsch, wanted to tell a story that had a definitive and clear end. He didn't want it rebooted, or to drag on beyond comprehension. he just wanted to tell a good story, and look where it got him! Gravity Falls remains one of the best and most iconic animated shows in history, even among giants like Naruto and Dragon Ball Z, despite only having 2 seasons. massive respect for that guy
Every now and then, they need to start a new continuity... and have been very lazy with it. Ya don't need a convoluted multiverse plot to legitimize a new continuity
They should have continued the MCU as is but started a ultimate universe where they could reboot all the avengers over time with the FF and Xmen involved. Allowing over time to phase out the old MCU and focus on the new universe. Crossing them over if you'd like too but I think trying to keep everything in the same universe is killing the enjoyment

The very moment that solidified phase four's direction was when Captain Carter said "I could do this all day" in the Dr Strange movie. That line did not belong to Captain America -- it belonged to Steve Rogers from his early days before even becoming CA. You can't just give that line to anyone who happens to be Captain. It makes no sense having Peggy say it except to pander to the audience so they can mimic Steve Rogers saying "I understood that reference."
Absolutely, are we supposed to believe that a young Miss Carter fought bullies her entire youth and had the equivalent of the Alley scene behind the movie theater? She also didn't display any of the Strategic or tactical awareness that Steve Rogers chose. There is a reason that Steve Rogers is the leader of the Avengers. I love Agent Carter the television series and I love the character Agent Carter and I love Miss Carter. And if the writers knew anything about her they would have looked at her role in the movies and her own TV show and found something from there to refer to.
"Captain Carter saying it was a reference to UK citizens now having to wait all day in immigration lines after Brexit." UK audiences: "Chip chip cheerio I understood that reference, blimey."
She also stole the "plant yourself like tree by the river of truth" line that was Steve's in the comics. Would've been one thing if Sharon said "Someone very dear to Aunt Peggy once told her" and so on implying it was Steve that said it originally and that Peggy embodying that sentiment for the rest of her life was an inspiration to him at that moment, but no it was Peggy, just Peggy, always Peggy who should've gotten the super soldier serum in the first place.
Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans are probably thanking their lucky stars that they got out when things were at their peak, and are now not contractually stuck with this fizzling mess.
Iron Heart’s backstory was that she wanted her teacher to say something racist/ belittling to her so that she could grow up to be successful as an excuse to spite that teacher. The teacher ends up being friendly and supportive of Riri, but that doesn’t fit in with “the message.” So when the teacher makes an off-hand remark about Tony Stark, Riri dedicated the rest of her life to obsessing over Tony, all because she wanted to prove her caring teacher “wrong.” It reads more like a supervillain origin than a hero. Suppose they want to make Iron Heart digestible to any audience. In that case, they’ll have to completely rewrite her backstory, personality, and skill sets, essentially replacing their tokenized hand-me-down with an equally unrecognizable hand-me-down. It’s the same thing they did with Kamala Kahn/ Ms. Marvel. Despite all of the advertising and fake reviews calling Kamala "the Gen Z equivalent of Spider-Man" her book was canceled 5 times within the past decade (and she hasn't come back since). Her popularity and acclaim are completely artificial. They completely changed her powers and backstory in the show just so it can be a decent story. The show is Ms. Marvel in name only. It just goes to show how little appeal this “relatable” next generation of “heroes” actually has. Edit: You can find Iron Heart's"heroic" origin in issue 8 of Invincible Iron Man. Look how disappointed she is when her teacher doesn’t discriminate against her. This is the start of her “superhero” journey. Not avenging the deaths of her best friend or stepdad; those were just unfortunate speed bumps since she was already dedicated to becoming an Iron Man clone. She tries to start a racially charged argument with a teacher in order to reinforce racist stereotypes that she can arbitrarily break again.
Wait wait wait. Thats her actual origin story? Thats the most pettiest, lame and stupidiest reason to become a hero, let alone become a succesor of a legend like Iron Man

Nah they won't have to adjust it. It's blatantly obvious at this point that the hypocrite racist community on Twitter is their target audience, because those people will hype up, advertise and defend any movie or show as long as it's diverse and projects sexism onto men and racism onto all white people. They won't watch the shows for any other reason than to see white people and men get discriminated against, so any criticism levied against the script screenplay and usage of CGI goes straight over their heads and will be met with blanket accusations of racism and sexism strawmanned on the fact that the show's cast is diverse and plot is woke.

People like the drinker and other movie reviewers who don't want to watch it but have because it's their job. They sort of contribute to the issue don't you think?
When it was new, the MCU had a point to prove. Now it just takes its audience for granted. Captain America Civil War was the best MCU movie for me. It had genuine stakes, a compelling story with clear motivation for all its characters, was paced well with a perfect mix of action and drama, and the third act was just incredible with surgical deconstruction of the two major MCU characters thus far. Sad that we will never see a comparable movie from the MCU now.
Best bit about Civil War was, you decided for yourself who was right - Cap or Tony. Not like today where there's only one message they're trying to push everywhere. Well, I'm glad we got some good years, some excellent movies and characters. These days, I tend to just leave entertainment things when they turn to shit and not lament why they're not doing a better job. The woke mob is welcome to their badly written soulless characters, I'm out.
The Russos were a gift to the Feigi. Don’t think Phase 3 would have been as good without the host of good directors they hired. Russos, Taika, Gunn, Coogler…
Captain America Civil War was also probably one of the movies they put the most care into when it came to the finished product. They kept talking about how they showed several different versions to test audiences until they found the more or less perfect point. They wanted to make it so the viewers decided on their own in the end who was right. They wanted the audiences as close to a 50/50 split as possible when they left the theaters.
There's now enough examples that people like Kevin Feige knows the scripts, direction, and editing have been lacking for Phase 4, which has led to lower sales. So, they either fix that and see something of a turnaround. Or they don't and see everything crash.
Well I think they would rather put out 4 movies a year and make 700 million on each instead of two movies and 1 billion on each. It equals more money made so they will keep pumping out content. And the TV shows for Marvel have drawn in a lot of subscriptions to Disney plus even though they suck for the most part.
@@dustinbridges6831 The majority of people are going to get sick of it pretty soon. We're already seeing the effects of superhero fatigue and it will continue to worsen. No fad lasts forever, especially when it is being shoved in your face as much as Marvel is.
People had this train of thought when sales went down and criticism was expressed with the comic books for Marvel and DC. They kept doing what they were doing. I can see the exact same thing happening with the MCU and just about everything else in pop culture these days, so it seems.
Imagine if iron-heart had to earn that name instead of being another Mary Sue. Imagine if she came from little to nothing. With a touch of curiosity and tenacity, while going through struggles, she would make a name for herself. Eventually be approached by the avengers and be requested to be given the name of "Iron-heart" but not using Tony's tech out of respect, only using his designs as inspirations for what she can go for so she can fulfill the roll of a hero, a protector, a suit of armor for the people.

Serial escalation.
@@EvenTheDogAgrees So true. Shonen mainly does the milking the money thing, but you're right in that most other anime have an end in mind.
Downscaling to a personal threat is the solution. JoJo's does this all the time and it really benefits the series.

Imagine if there were actually competition between Marvel & DC to see who could make the best movies & TV shows? Seems more like a competition to see who could put out the most crap and get away with it.
real shame DC shit the bed from the start, the competition could have kept marvel sharp, oh well
DC has started taking steps in the right direction, but I agree, wish there was more competition between the two
WB screwed up DC on film from the get-go.
@@fattiger6957 That actually sounds very nice because that is exactly what ruins most scenes for me, stupid jokes in very serious/tense situations.
Name one joke he told
Thanos I mean , the movie was pure gold

@@lilmovieperp3599 ah yes, the one line people use when they don't have an actual argument
Some new prequel novel alludes to it and Twitter creamed itself all at once.)
marvel is best example of "you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villian"
First three phase has Stan lee
That's why it's good
My issue with what they are currently doing in the MCU is they are focusing on a bunch of new gen heroes that people either don't know, don't care for, or don't like. Instead of, you know, a bunch of iconic classic characters that are still not in.
@@SnipingIsFun Agatha and Echo are getting tv shows and I'm just sitting here malding asking "WHERES THE NOVA MOVIE GUYS?"

After the detestable new Thor, I'm done supporting Marvel.

@Kel El Only in End Game. That scene was super cringe and was probably a mandate by Disney
There's now enough examples that people like Kevin Feige knows the scripts, direction, and editing have been lacking for Phase 4, which has led to lower sales. So, they either fix that and see something of a turnaround. Or they don't and see everything crash.
Sadly it's going to be the latter as Feige cares more about popular with the In-crowd.
Well I think they would rather put out 4 movies a year and make 700 million on each instead of two movies and 1 billion on each. It equals more money made so they will keep pumping out content.
