Yeah I've got one with 30,000 original miles on it. And I was going to make a black widow clone. How to set and rusted except for decades on decades. I'll never get around to that one to make it a black widow clone
AWESOME RIDE - I am a huge fan of the 57 150 two door post - Just a great car - I would almost trade my 1963 Gibson Humming bird for that one HA! It is worth a little/lot more than my guitar - but it would sure look good in the back seat of that red 57 - my guitar is an original sun burst (lots of red)
That's a nice, simple driver. She seems to run and drive really good, and it's definitely a solid car. It's really unusual to see a 150 with fender skirts. Personally I would like it better without them, but it's not my car... I really like that the interior was redone in the factory pattern. I've always liked the 57 seats and door panels.
Hey Kiwi, great video! Loved the video, the new addition of the camera man helped so much to be able to see the car. He showcases the intent let's say, great video! Now I have clearer minds eye view of a 57 Chevy dash, cool! Loved that old generator/Power steering unit idea, but oil and electricity seems odd? Common shaftleak to the generator, hmmm? The designs and what they'd back in the day were difdifferent, but so many times better simplicity/key. Loved this 57 Chevy so cool! 😎
LMAO - when I was a little kid, I seen a '57 150 on the road, and I thought: "Look at that dummy! He put '55 trim on a '57!!!"😅😂🤣 Turns out I was the dummy...😆
Yes sir. I think for us older fellows it is easier to get in and out of a vehicle that sets about the height of those cars. I have a 2000 Buick that I call the "go kart" as it sets low, does handle good and has good power but it is a chore to get in and out of. I have a 72 Chevrolet 4 wheel drive set at stock height and it can be a climb these days to get in and out of (old man at 72). I remember the ease at which I got into that 56 Chevrolet I had and actually out on the open road it rode quite well. After I put a .060 283 in it with some hot rod pistons and other stuff (Crane Fireball cam) it would sing right down the highway easily at 70 plus mph. Those cars as you pointed out do ride different from todays vehicles but driven responsible they handle ok. The stuff we have in automobiles today, well that was exotic racing stuff back in the fifties. I believe that car should be a 283 as the engine came out that year (may be some carryover 265's and also Chevrolet introduced the Turboglide transmission which I believe was quite troublesome). Ironically Ford outsold Chevrolet that year but the 57 Chevrolets have the distinction of being sought after. That car is representative of what people did on cars back when I was younger. Very few people did actual frame off restorations but there were some who would clean up and paint the underside of the car and also at the time these cars were not old enough to have rotted out body bushings and such although these parts could be had at the Chevrolet dealers.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice 57 150. Well optioned for a 150. Power steering and electric wipers. The shock bar on the rear is a good upgrade. Trifives were bad about busting out the upper mounts as they just mounted into sheet metal. One upgrade I would recommend is a dual master for the brakes. A front sway bar would stop the lean. Both fairly easy installs. The steering, as you know, is going to be a little vague. I put a low mileage (non power) box on my 55 Handyman wagon and it helped but the difference in driving my 2012 Focus (rack and pinion) and the 55 are night and day but it's easy to get used to. I also added a front sway bar which is the number one thing I did that changed how it handles (GREAT!). I've done other stuff too but I won't go into all that. I've driven it from Memphis to Nashville for the first Good Guys show, Pigeon Forge several times, to Dayton, OH a few times, Sommerset KY a couple times and a number of local shows and cruise ins. I NEED to get it out and drive it. I've been working (non stop) on another project (November deadline) and haven't taken it out in a year or so. May have to do that today...or tomorrow...LOL Have a good one!
That's about as close to stock as you'll see for a "driver" '57. I always liked the post model, it seems sturdier. Love or hate the HEI, it drops right into a 65+ year old car and modified versions are now available for most American cars.
My wife has 57 Chevy 210. It's in the aqua color always like the Chevy box style. Even though I am a motorcycle guy. But there are classics like this.. My wife's been repainted once but it's very clean it's got 67,000 miles on it
Good job Kiwi. I think a day will come in the future where these old cars will have to be converted to electric to be on the road and when that day comes you’ll have plenty of room to do the conversion………!!!!
Good honest driver, well done for getting it roadworthy and safe for more years of enjoyment. Only fault would that steering wheel cover- might be period correct but its installation needs some help.
Since it had power steering I'm surprised it didn't have power brakes or upgraded to power brakes.. and also a dual reservoir which is a good safety improvement
Thanks for another great informative video. But isn't that a 55 Chevy? Wish I had a guy like you to help me out with my hot rod here in Maine. Best Wishes, Brad
Pretty cool 57 seems to go very well my wife just got a 54 customline 239 flathead with electronic fuel Injection and 4 Porsche turbos 4 wheel disks 5 speed manual 14 k got to be cheap at that
Thanks for showing ! Nicest 57s around and great for cruising around! Its a 265???? I know that for 1957, if you got the V8, the 265 has been upgraded to a 283?
What diameter is that pea shooter exhaust, one and three quarter inch ? , wouldn't it have benefited from going to a bit bigger diameter?. I tend to match the pipe to the manifold outlet diameter.
Honestly, the car looks like it was painted with Rustoleum. Maybe a good compounding and waxing will make her look better. Is this urethane paint or an enamel?
i had a 46 nash the water pump was bolted to the back of the generator and went to the driver side of the engine block...that was definatly a strange set up to me
Wow thats nice - don't see them all stock like that much anymore! Lose the skirts, AC, and that God awful sterring wheel wrap and I'd cruise the wheels off of it! And you definitely need to get her to drive it more because it setting around isnt doing it any favors....... which reminds me I need to take the F100 out one last time for the year!😁
It's a power glide, an easy way to tell is the layout on the column shift indicator, the powerglide is PNDLR the turbo glide was PRND-Gr. The Gr stood for Grade retarder which was kinda like low gear and was used for engine braking.
That is a nice car stock just the way it was. I'm not a big fan of them, there's just too many of them out there. I don't know which ones are real. Which ones are made up after the fact. But yeah nice little car didn't take much nice. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Yep, usually an alternator and a 'modern' Saginaw 'canned ham' PS pump. I would've attempted to hang that AC compressor lower and more out of site. That steering wheel wrap needs to go though.
That seems like a nice driveable car.
Its nice to see a car that hasn't been hacked up or modded to something it wasn't.
Yeah just an honest old car😎👍
I had the '55 version of this car. I still miss that car after 55 years.
I'll always have a soft spot for the '57s without the decorative rear quarter trim. Love that this one hasn't been modified much.
Speaking of dangerous spiders, the car itself would make a nice Black Widow.
My exact thoughts when he mentioned recluses!
Yes it would😁😎👍

This car is excellent! And it's nice that it's a genuine old car rather than the usual new car around an old shell.

Not saying it can't be however it's probably a 283, and it's the first I've seen skirts on a 150. Beautiful '57 no matter what. Thnx.
I love the paint. It looks right. Not overly glossy. Looks old but not worn out.
I'd say that paint is 20 years old......
I think it's a fantastic looking hard. I wish mine two-door post look like this
Glad you enjoyed it!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 thanks 👍
Go for a cruise in Marge. She would appreciate it! Thanks Kiwi and Steve!
Yes I need to !!!
Amazing how the quarter trim and skirts change the looks. The new powder coated tanks are fantastic.
😁👍
Sweet ride! Born the year after I was, got a few cobwebs myself! 😂
😂🤣
There were cars that had the generator and water pump together like that. Duesenburg maybe? I saw it on Jay Leno's Garage
Apparently some Nash's had that too....😎👍😁
Beautiful, it's great to see an old original car.
Yes it is !!😎😁👍
I live in the rust belt, that car is like new. Uh yeah umm noice.
😁😎👍
Kiwi, looking at that 57 Chevy I see similarity to a 56-57 Ford on a side view.
That would be near perfect, with a 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree. Just like my dream FE Holden that I'll never get to own 🤣
If you want a '56 wagon, I will be publishing it soon in blue and white 6 cylinder 3 on the tree.
I wish I had one.🙂
Sweet old Chevy.

My MK10 Jag has the powersteering pump on the back of the generator.
Broderick Crawford Highway Patrol vibes... 21-50 suspect last seen in a red Chevy
My old '55 235 definitely had no power steering or air conditioning. It barely had heat, lol.
It's the first generator powered HEI I've seen.
