The best option for you rn imo is GK96S. Southpaw and works great. Besides that just get a GK61/64/68 and a numpad with that. Cheaper than all this trash and actually reliable for once.
as a left handed person who uses the numpad for 'WASD' I would love something like this. But not as much as I'd like to see more gaming mice that can be adapted to left hand use. Not to mention be nice if game developers would add more options to allow for rebinding of numpad etc to in their games. You'd be amazed how many do not let you rebind they keys I use. Rebinding every damn game you own because you're not right handed constantly sucks and is made worse when you cannot bind the keys you actually want to use.
The ASUS ROG Claymore series isn't exactly new. The original Claymore already had the ability to detach the numpad and allow the user to install it to both left and right side of the main keyboard.
I still have Microsoft's Sidewinder X6. I've used that 10 years ago before mech keyboards were a thing. That was the first keyboard I know that switches numpad location.
Mechanical keyboard have been a thing for a looong time. Cherry's patent for the current MX style is almost 30 years at this point. But I know what you mean; they weren't really a thing in the gaming space for a long time.
Take a look at the Mountain Everest Max when you get the chance. I would say the ease of use is over all better and build quality might be on par but that software side of it lets it down (not wireless either and has cherry reds). It was a kick starter and only recently came out of it from my knowledge, i could be completely wrong.
I'm sorry, but for $270 it should have PBT keycaps and not ABS ones. Both the Corsair K100 ($230) and the Razer Huntsman V2 ($250) are cheaper, even if by a tiny bit, and both have PBT keycaps. And they're both optical, with the Razer having analog functionality on top.
I'd like to point-out just how much Armoury Crate sucks. If I want to change my mouse DPI (or even fix my profile because the DPI switch doesn't toggle half the time), I'll need to update my mouse to even look at (let alone, change) the settings. After it downloads the update files (for my mouse) onto every storage drive in the system, I then have to restart my PC just to finish applying the update! I just want to change my DPI or RGB...
3:10 I like how you're able to tell how fast a linear optical switch actuates by feel, without ever having the keyboard connected. Magical! Nice unboxing otherwise, though. Movable keypad is a step up, and contactless switches definitely are too. I'm only left wondering if actuation point could be changed or not, or even if it had analog capabilities, but I assume there's not.

For what they charge for this keyboard, it should be perfect. The use of non-standard keycaps is a potential issue, preventing replacement of the keycaps with off the shelf keycaps.
Can I Use the Number Pad wirelessly? Can i use 2 Numpads simultaneously as more Macro space? Will Asus Maybe offer a whole macro pad Just for the Side or maybe a slim one with 4-5 Keys in a Row? I See lots of Potential here.
I'm gonna reply to this comment so that I'll get notified if we get an answer. My decision pretty much hinges on whether the numpad works when disconnected from the keyboard.
Same for me! i want to use it like a buttonbox on my simracing rig and volume control and put it back on keyboard when I’m playing other thing. This would be awesome 😁!
@@vincentlamarche5218 Someone answered this question for me in another thread. The answer is no, the numpad isn't separately powered, sadly. That said, my solution was to buy a cheaper TKL keyboard I like and a wireless Bluetooth numpad separately for like thirty bucks USD.

A little annoying when im using it for anything other than gaming. I just emailed Asus about it yesterday so we will see what happens. Its about a year old.
Just get a wireless mechanical numpad. They cost $30. You could also make your numpad wirelessly rechargable by taking advantage of a Qi charger so you wont have to worry about your numpad's battery life. I use a customized RK84 in tandem with a wireless mechanical numpad and it works great. If I don't need the numpad, I just put it on the charging pad and it juices up so it never runs out.

"this is stiff" sure, I see the thing twisting like a noodle with my bare eyes, this thing is not stiff, it's a cheap piece of crap, just like the first claymore. The numpad didn't connect half the time and the software is comically bad. Videos about a product, sponsored by the manufacturer of said product can't be trusted, simple as that.
Would have bought it tomorrow if it WASN'T optical AND they wouldn't be using their own stem. I could have overlooked the lack of hot swappable switches if this was the case. All my artisan keycaps would be useless. :-(

Holy crap, I have never considered how useful it would be to have the numpad on the left...When I'm inputting data, or setting parameters on my video editing software I always have to take my hand off the mouse in order to use the numpad cos I don't like using the top row numbers. I need this to be standard guys.
OMG! I have been waiting SOOOO long for this! This is the absolute best style of keyboard for people with limited space on a keyboard tray. I am buying this thing right now!
There’s a few companies that do the whole left numpad/detachable. Epokmaker makes a left sided numpad kb and Mountain makes a kb with a detachable numpad with little lcd macro screens you could put images on it
A copy pastry fo the Montain Everest pro Max without the the stream deck keys and neither the little screen screen. Plus the montain Everest keyboard has the keycaps and the switches removable.
I think having the RGB LED in the middle of the switch is quite nice aesthetically, legends can be centered on the keys and having LEDs offset towards the top always bugged me a bit.
I’d like to see this numb pad idea used for laptops. I don’t like numb pads on laptops - I hate having my hands off centre from the screen when typing - but I like having a numb pad while working. Adding a numb pad to the side of a laptop when needed would be great for me ergonomically.
Tell ASUS to make something unique/useful ... like an ergonomic wireless keyboard, been using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 for 14 years, and some variant of the same design since 1995. No way am i going back to carpel tunnel keyboard land.
Left numpad is also better in general, allows for more ergonomic usage of the mouse while navigating spreadsheets or filling out other datasets. Source: been on a wireless left hand numpad for two years and haven't looked back once.
I own the original Claymore and love it, was super interested when you guys showed it at CES one year, 2years later they released it and ive been using it since, some of the improvements look good, the old system of attaching the numpad is a little hit or miss sometimes so this looks like a good improvement.
Thanks for being #TeamROG and #TeamCLAYMORE the bond attachment was specifically redesigned to be superior in every way from the ease of connection to durability.
$269.99??? Didnt we just bash logitech like 1,5 years ago for being money hungry a$$holes for charging $250 dollars for their wireless keyboard? What happened to premium keyboards being around the $150 mark? Suddenly Ducky keyboards look cheap. When I got into premium PC gaming peripherals like 2015 or so, a Corsair K70, which was one of the best, was priced at $120, and that was enthusiast money for keyboards. The industry and pricing goes in the wrong direction. Smh
I dont know, I've had the K95 RGB Platinum for 3 years now, (brown) and the only signs of wear are the volume wheel and the "Num lock" LED (white) which is identical to "Claymore", where the wheel is not registering correctly and the LED has faded. But the keys, board, wrist-rest, Macros and switches are like new. It is extremely satisfying to type on and It's similarly priced. I'm just unconvinced about the feel of the optical switches.
i think this is going to be my next keyboard for 1 reason only... name brand mech with left side numbpad! holy smokes! these need to be more popular for accounting/3d design!
Looks good with the proper numpad position (imo), however the keyswitches not being compatible with regular mx keycaps is a big no go for ever replacing those keycaps if they fade or get gunky after a few years

Took it apart to find it had a swollen battery. As I don't use it wirelessly anymore, I just removed the battery and it works great now. If you are like me looking for a solution, the screws are between the keys. You can see them easily.
Hi, love these unboxing short-circuits 😀
Glad you like them!

I'm so down for more of these modular boards
Making some epic time savings there with that "qwerty" macro.
_“And they're sponsoring the video,_
_which is how you know I'll not let any negative points linger in the video without mopping them up,_
_and why I'll say nothing about the insane price tag.”_
Because it's not a review..
Agreed. Seemed like a somewhat decent board before i saw the outrageous price tag. Many other boards are much better options at that price.
As a wooting owner, yes opticals are great. Love the quality of life features this adds, though. Curios about their differences in gaming features as I imagine ROG can be more successful in pushing devs for compatibility.
269 and you get painted keycaps... incredible
ive been talking about having a mechanical or just good keyboard with the numpad on the left or can detach for about 6 months now. so hyped for this
Someone else in the comments mentioned the everest max keyboard which offers the same feature and a bunch more in a similar price range it seems. No clue on the quality though, just figured I'd mention it to you.
@@creesch there is a discord for the keyboard and if the members who have gotten theirs have anything to say it's all positive about both build quality and usage, there have also been a lot of coverage on youtube from people interested and RandomFrankP has been covering it since it was in it's prototype stage with HardwareCanucks making a great video on it. now we just need to get ShortCircuit to get one and unbox it then have them compare different keyboards that are similar like the Sidewinder X6, ROG Claymore II, Mad catz strike 7 and off course the mentioned Everest
Me too
ua-cam.com/video/omQ-G7dxq8s/v-deo.html
The best option for you rn imo is GK96S. Southpaw and works great. Besides that just get a GK61/64/68 and a numpad with that. Cheaper than all this trash and actually reliable for once.
8:00 every time i installed rog armory crate it caused my system to become corrupt and had to reinstall my os
as a left handed person who uses the numpad for 'WASD' I would love something like this.
Using the G902 here bud.
The ASUS ROG Claymore series isn't exactly new. The original Claymore already had the ability to detach the numpad and allow the user to install it to both left and right side of the main keyboard.
You are correct, we had a lot of people asking for an update and this has been in the pipeline for some time.
I still have Microsoft's Sidewinder X6. I've used that 10 years ago before mech keyboards were a thing. That was the first keyboard I know that switches numpad location.
Sidewinder was fucking awesome. Used mine for 5 years no less. It was perfect.
Mechanical keyboard have been a thing for a looong time. Cherry's patent for the current MX style is almost 30 years at this point. But I know what you mean; they weren't really a thing in the gaming space for a long time.
Awesome video guys! I rarely preorder anything, but this time, I just had to. Thanks James and everyone at LMG! Love ya guys!

I have the Claymore 1, its really solid.
the new angled macro keys on the numpad are a neat addition.
Eek on that price though. The original Claymore + Bond was 179.
“The future is now old man!”

Bro but this isn’t a 1.73048% with Indigo box switches lubed with Krytox 82749g20 how can this be the future of mech boards…
edit: they changed the title from something like 'this is the future of mechanical keyboards', so my comment makes no sense now :(
For what they charge for this keyboard, it should be perfect. The use of non-standard keycaps is a potential issue, preventing replacement of the keycaps with off the shelf keycaps.
Sidewinder x6 felt more satisfying with magnets.
Fuck yeah Claymore has been my keyboard of choice since it's debut and I'm stoked for the new one
Thanks for being #TeamCLAYMORE
free sneeze at 7:38 :)
love the vids
I absolutely love this concept and have been waiting for it for years to have a num and macro pad to the left
Can I Use the Number Pad wirelessly? Can i use 2 Numpads simultaneously as more Macro space? Will Asus Maybe offer a whole macro pad Just for the Side or maybe a slim one with 4-5 Keys in a Row? I See lots of Potential here.
These are great questions :D
I have the keyboard in fact I'm typing this on it in tkl mode but no the numpad is not wireless
I love ShortCircuit but Christ this is such an ad read. It really shows in James’s energy
Ive got the Claymore 1, and its absolutely amazing. I love it. The removable key pad is awesome. Just recently though the "i" key will randomly double press. A little annoying when im using it for anything other than gaming. I just emailed Asus about it yesterday so we will see what happens. Its about a year old.
I got the claymore II and in fact I'm replying to you typing on it
As a lefty, that modular numpad is a gamechanger
Daaamn I just got a 75% keyboard and thought to myself it would be nice to have a separate number pad just like this
F
get a stream deck and bind numpad to a folder on it lul
Just get a wireless mechanical numpad. They cost $30. You could also make your numpad wirelessly rechargable by taking advantage of a Qi charger so you wont have to worry about your numpad's battery life.
I use a customized RK84 in tandem with a wireless mechanical numpad and it works great. If I don't need the numpad, I just put it on the charging pad and it juices up so it never runs out.
@@stringstorm dang that sounds like a good option ,thanks

Omg i wanted this for years. Now just to get my Country layout...
I have been using an opto-mechanical keyboard for 2 years now, the omen sequencer. It also was one of the first ones with a volume wheel. Still going strong
*laughing in custom keyboard*
but for real please send help
100% true
this does sound very very good for a non-custom board tbh. To be clear, it’s not as good as a custom, but it’s still good for its class.
I pray for your wallet
i can relate
Buy a shift key plz
Finally a number pad removable. I really like this function.

As someone who lives in excel and in the warzone. This is a game changer.
the Claymore 1 had an attachable numpad too
You are correct, kudos!
I actually like when the numpads on the right side, helps using numpads while my other hand is using mouse
Holy crap, I have never considered how useful it would be to have the numpad on the left...When I'm inputting data, or setting parameters on my video editing software I always have to take my hand off the mouse in order to use the numpad cos I don't like using the top row numbers. I need this to be standard guys.
A great review and no products were dropped! :)
OMG! I have been waiting SOOOO long for this! This is the absolute best style of keyboard for people with limited space on a keyboard tray. I am buying this thing right now!
Good luck
I bought this keyboard a few months ago, and I absolutely love it.
I was thinking about this kind of concept yesterday, nice to see in real life
There’s a few companies that do the whole left numpad/detachable. Epokmaker makes a left sided numpad kb and Mountain makes a kb with a detachable numpad with little lcd macro screens you could put images on it
im poor and bought a cheapo numpad from amazon to put on the left side of my keyboard haha
A copy pastry fo the Montain Everest pro Max without the the stream deck keys and neither the little screen screen. Plus the montain Everest keyboard has the keycaps and the switches removable.
I'm ALMOST bummed out that I just ordered a Mountain Everest Max... ALMOST.
I want more keyboard like this! With modules to add touchpad or other macros (maybe a cheaper option without wireless too)!
I think having the RGB LED in the middle of the switch is quite nice aesthetically, legends can be centered on the keys and having LEDs offset towards the top always bugged me a bit.
We 100% agree
I’d like to see this numb pad idea used for laptops. I don’t like numb pads on laptops - I hate having my hands off centre from the screen when typing - but I like having a numb pad while working. Adding a numb pad to the side of a laptop when needed would be great for me ergonomically.
FINALLY
I just bought a G915TKL and a separate numpad wishing someone would just do this. Now to make it not look obnoxious.
Tell ASUS to make something unique/useful ... like an ergonomic wireless keyboard, been using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 for 14 years, and some variant of the same design since 1995. No way am i going back to carpel tunnel keyboard land.
THIS IS WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED, A DETACHABLE KEYPAD!!!
I'm not into mechanical keyboards but I really like this one's design!
Got one from my brother, first Claymore. It's so nice!
Been using their Strix Scope Rx for a couple months now. Great wired option that is a lot cheaper but with their same great switches.
100% it is a great keyboard, thanks for being #TeamROG love the RX switches.
I really like my Claymore, so it's nice see that Asus is keeping it around.
Smh
Been waiting for this to release. Now just to wait for it to be able to be ordered in canada or even pre-ordered and will pick it up immediately!
Thing I needed to know about:
Ease of disassembly for cleaning and maintenance or switch replacement.
i think this is going to be my next keyboard for 1 reason only... name brand mech with left side numbpad! holy smokes! these need to be more popular for accounting/3d design!
You could have both sides with this?
Looks good with the proper numpad position (imo), however the keyswitches not being compatible with regular mx keycaps is a big no go for ever replacing those keycaps if they fade or get gunky after a few years
Nice to see some more background light & Color!
I am currently using a Bloody B945 myself which is indeed an optical switch and a left handed numpad to boot
You are the future of gaming keyboards.
I like the time stamps in the short circuit videos
I have a diy 65% keyboard based on the 68keys design and a custom made numpad with 2 extra keys and a rotary encoder with the same design. Both are running QMK and are completely independent of each other. I have my mouse in between the two, I think its the perfect setup. I also just ordered another 65% for work.
