Sick. You and Elliot (retro future) have two totally different filming styles. It’s awesome to see your trips and how they differed. I really want to visit Japan. Dead of summer is not when I want to go, though 😂
@@AB0BA_69 don't know about him but I visited Akihabara first in 1999 and have been to Japan since then more then 20 times. While most stuff had a alltime low around 2004-2006 prices started rising due to UA-cam and Retro fame more then a decade ago and had again a surge during Corona. So I had the "privilege" to experience the price development for more then 20 years now. lots of stuff that cost like 100-2000 Yen in the past decade are now 10.000-20.000 Yen games behind glass shelves. Most of those games used to be available in huge "low budget" baskets back then.. Mind you some game systems had a bigger price development then others. and it ofc depens on the games too.
I was told (& I can’t confirm this) that Super Potato is a tourist trap & they jack the prices for tourist. If you want good deals on retro games go to Hard Offs or Book Offs in Japan. I went to Japan back in 2008 & again in 2009. I wish I had this info back then (well don’t know if Hard Offs existed back then). Also the Japanese definition of broken can be just missing stuff, so it is a good idea to pickup cheap broken hardware to be refurbished & good items can be found in those bargain bins. Have a nice hunt & good luck!
Book off, TRADER, Mulan, Retro Game Camp, and Surugaya are all great places to shop for used and retro stuff like games -- esp of you are a tourist, most places off Tax-Free discounts when you spend over 5,500yen & show your passport, so it's always worthwhile to read the signs & ask "Tax-Free desu ka?" when you go up to the counter. You will save a TON of money this way. Just make sire you bring it out of the country with you & you are good to go.
Those stores in Akihabara and Den Den Town that everyone and their mom has done a video of are really only for people who have more money than time or can't be bothered to do the research to go anywhere else. For example, you can pay 2700 yen for one of those loose Pokemon red carts at Super Potato or find one at a Bookoff/Hardoff for 500-800 yen.
Hate to break it to you but Hard Off and Book Off's in major cities are now tourist traps. You can thank youtubers for that lol. If you want deals, go to actual small run second hand stores not in major cities...If you want selection, stay in the cities.
I went this year to Japan and Japan is so awesome for retro game hunting. I visited every retro game store I could find. For Mario Land, I have a good tip: The USJ (Universal Studios Japan) attractions officially open at 9 am, but you can enter the park itself before that time. Once inside, you can explore everything without limitations (Mario Land would be the best choice).

I was so surprised with Osaka too! It was totally an unexpected experience, an amazing place to visit. The vibe is totally different from Tokyo, loved it!
I just come back from Japan (2 months visiting) and I had an awesome time in country side hard-off shops, I managed to spend around 1000$US in videogames and figurines, I bought around 110 pounds of stuff with awesome prices, especially in the junk section for untested oldies, you have to spend more time than before but you can still find some awesome stuff if you don't look for very rare items (prices are gone crazy since 2 years for nintendo or snk rare products especially) For example I paid 8800Y (55$) for a loose grey Nec PC engine duo, fully working
Perfect timing for me to see this video. I’m planning my trip in october and was just looking at walkthrough videos of Super Potato and other retro game stores. I’m probably going to have to ship all my purchases back home because I know I’m going to buy too much stuff to fit in my luggage lol
I’d definitely bring an extra check in bag if you’re planning on buying a lot of stuff. I made the mistake of not bringing an extra suitcase and bought one in Japan 😭
Sendico is great. And the videos from you, Zez Retro and The Retro Future are great for reliving some of my short trips to Super Potato, Hard Off and the like.

That SuperGrafx that cost 2000 is brand new for what it is worth. Says so right on the box. Another interesting note is that Osaka Castle is actually a replica, the original was destroyed many years ago, and most recently a replica was destroyed in the second world war I think. Still cool to check out though.

My tip for everyone going to japan is to skip super potato, as they have become more of a tourist spot, and look for smaller mom and pop retro game stores on the outskirts of the city. Thats where the really good prices are.

Hey! How do you get all of your finds out of Japan? I’m about to take a trip there and I’m not sure of the best way to get retro games and such back home to the US. 🙂
Looks like you had fun. I think i would get confused with the difference prices in yen. I would be constantly looking at my phone trying to figure out the exchange rate.
Great video Tito! I'm heading to Japan in October, and wondering if you saw the average cost of a PS Vita? Always love your content my man. Looking forward to the rest of the travel vlog.
Was there in April and found a Vita 1000 for about 10,100yen, the going rate was around that price, but Book-off definitely had the best deals on Vita's that I stumbled across versus dedicated Retro stores.
Tito! You should have tried the the biohazard walkthrough they had at universal studios, I was just there last week and that place blew my expectations on the quality they put in.
Hope one day you visit Korea too. We have a gaming center here at Nambu station exit 5 call "Kukje Electronics center" and is on the 9th floor of that building. Is a fun place to go too. Plus the retro cafe next to it is also fun.
Nobody ever mentions the Super Potato in Ikebukuro.. they only talk about Akihabara location. The Ikebukuro location makes Akihabara look like a discount store.
The Japanese raised the prices because foreigners could come back to Japan. The Japanese yen is worthless, so of course you get those high prices especially at super potato and the big cities. The treasures are mostly in the countryside not in the big tourist cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.
Oh I see you didn't go to any HARDOFFs in Osaka... they have a Junk section with untested electronics so you could get some amazing deals as you have the knowledge and tools to fix stuff. I bought a "broken" (just needed some cleaning) PS3 controller for less than $5 and a Nintendo DSi with broken shoulder buttons for around just $10! I hope you went to HARDOFFs in Kyoto and Tokyo! And also, Summer is the worst season to travel to Japan... Autumn, Spring and Winter are definitely more enjoyable!
The good deals are there - they're just at the smaller stores that are not covered as often by social media influencers. The good deals are the stores you stumble upon off the beaten path or in city centres that are not tourist focused (like Tokyo). Even in Akiba there are good sales, they're just not on the first floors or at the best known Retro Game stores like Super Potato.

Super potato is one of the most expensive stores in Japan
Do you have shops to recommend for good deals?
Nice trip!
Hey! How do you get all of your finds out of Japan? I’m about to take a trip there and I’m not sure of the best way to get retro games and such back home to the US. 🙂
Looks like an awesome trip!
Thanks big G!
Looks like you had fun. I think i would get confused with the difference prices in yen. I would be constantly looking at my phone trying to figure out the exchange rate.
It totally took some getting used to. I kinda got the hang of converting the currency by the end of the trip 😅
Great video Tito! I'm heading to Japan in October, and wondering if you saw the average cost of a PS Vita? Always love your content my man. Looking forward to the rest of the travel vlog.
Was there in April and found a Vita 1000 for about 10,100yen, the going rate was around that price, but Book-off definitely had the best deals on Vita's that I stumbled across versus dedicated Retro stores.
looks like a really fun trip, i'm so jealous! hope you had fun as well :)
Super jealous. I'll get to Japan someday...
Wow, Super Potato in Tokyo is even more expensive than Super Potato we have here in Nagoya! Tourism making that happen I guess!
Nobody ever mentions the Super Potato in Ikebukuro.. they only talk about Akihabara location. The Ikebukuro location makes Akihabara look like a discount store.
Ikebukuro isn't much cheaper. I go there often.
The Japanese raised the prices because foreigners could come back to Japan.
The Japanese yen is worthless, so of course you get those high prices especially at super potato and the big cities.
The treasures are mostly in the countryside not in the big tourist cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.
It'd be funny if you ran into Eliot from The Retro Future.
That would have been epic!
I LOVE the spiderman ride i ride it multiple times everytime i go to universal orlando
Totally agree! It completely exceeded my expectations! Fantastic ride!
Totally agree, summer is brutal 🥵 I did manage to go to a bunch of hardoffs in Tokyo, stay tuned 😁
Oh cool! Hopefully you didn't clear them out, because I want to do the same thing when I go there this fall!
2:40 25k for Green 😂 prices are higher than our western scalpers mark their stuff
like REALLY out of control. absolute meme prices in these shops
Yeah the prices are crazy but I did manage to find some pretty good deals later on
@@MachoNachoProductions good. let me guess, in one of those bookoff stores? they're way less tourist scams
I was just in Japan a month ago and I found way better deals at the Book Offs and House Offs especially the ones in the less touristy areas
Best place in Japan for deals is yahoo auctions. Just got to be prepared to wait for it.
I live in Osaka and we never buy at super potato.its super expensive there
That's the castle from COD world at war.
Sad to see the days of going to Japan to pick up some cheaper than the west games are dissapearing.
Agree, you can still find some good deals
The good deals are there - they're just at the smaller stores that are not covered as often by social media influencers. The good deals are the stores you stumble upon off the beaten path or in city centres that are not tourist focused (like Tokyo). Even in Akiba there are good sales, they're just not on the first floors or at the best known Retro Game stores like Super Potato.
really fun looking trip, I will definitely be doing some retro game hunting myself. I'm making my first visit to Japan in September for the F1 Japanese Gran Prix. Anyone have any advice for a complete Japanese illiterate?
Don't provoke the Yakuza!
Dude that’s awesome! I’d love to watch F1 in Japan! Have fun dude! Definitely download google translate app for your phone. It’s an indispensable tool 👍
Metro tickets are pricy ?
You went to Dorenbori without a Yakuza reference? Nani?
next time check out Akiba Kart Osaka for some real life go karting
There's plenty of bargains. And what's cooler going to Japan or just buying it off ebay?
Awesome!
