Trying to FIX a Faulty Xbox One S with E100 error code

- Hi, this 'trying to fix' shows me attempting to repair a Xbox One S with a E100 error code. Previously Jamie (the owner) had reformatted the Hard Drive. Then an error code showed the Disc Drive was faulty so he replaced it. Then he got another error code so gave up on it.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks, Vince. - Навчання та стиль
I dunno how you do it mate but i watch all your videos when you fix things. I cannot believe you made me sit and watch you fix a fridge for an hour! love the videos !
Lol I watched it to
Me too, it was fascinating!
Thank you mate. The fridge one was surprisingly watchable. When I have to watch the videos back after editing and processing them it can be painful as I know the outcome, and have already watched all the bits during editing. BUT for some reason that Fridge video was even enjoyable for me!!!!
@@Mymatevince love your videos and the accent to lol
Wait what? Did I miss something? I shall go have a look......after this video.
Vince is such a wholesome lad omg. Them first 2 minutes was pure wholesome energy
why on Earth am i sitting here and watching you fix things when im not even looking to fix anyting myself. i cant put my finger on what exactly you are doing so good with video making but you are definietly doing something great here. so dont stop
CONGRATS ON 300K Vince! Great video too.
Thanks Steve, hopefully you will get your Silver Play Button in 2019 :-)

Hello, stumbled across your videos and I must say, I'm hooked! Love the content, keep up the great work.
Good on you Vince. How can someone dislike your videos seriously. Keep them coming 👍
Vince you have inspired me to learn as much as I can about repairing electronics and have given me a goal in life. Just wanted to say thank you for all the videos. Keep up the great work mate!!!!!
Thank you and thanks for the comment and watching them. There are loads of good UA-camrs to watch that are really good at electronics. It is amazing to have this much information at our fingertips (we are very lucky).
I love the way you got excited for fixing it beautiful job Vince mate

Thank you for the nice comments and feedback :-)
Congratulations on 300K subs Vince!
Thank you mate :-)
Hi Vince, The way you try and fix things is exactly how I started. I never believe anything is unfix able with a little patience and good old google generally sorts it out. Yes your right about the bluray drive, it has a key thats locked to that motherboard, if they dont match then you get the errors you see. A quick swap of the board would of sorted it, but am glad you went a different direction at first as that is part of the problem solving routine for us amateurs. Anyway Im a big fan of your series and always watch the guides. Good luck in the future from Daz
Thanks for the nice comments and advice Daz. Cheers :-)
You are absolutely brilliant. It was staring me in the face the entire time never wouldve thought using a 01b instead of the original 03b DVD would hinder the xbox so much. You just saved the few remaining hairs in my head.
Wow a you tuber that admits they make money on thier videos and only 1 ad for a 30+ minute video!? I fuckin love this guy and will keep following! Very informative and entertaining. Thanks my mate!
Cool you made one person happy, good work mate!
this helped me immensely, thank you. I went through the same exact troubleshooting process you did - I ended up reconditioning the old drive by cleaning the intake roller with rubbing alcohol and applying some white lithium grease to the exposed plastic cogs and didn't even have to do a bd drive daughterboard swap.
Upon closer inspection of the replacement drive that was causing the error i noticed it was a different model, DG-6M2S-XXX (dated 2015) instead of the original DG-6M1S-XXX dated 2014, hope this helps someone as i suspect MAYBE replacing a dead drive with the same exact drive model would avoid this issue.
anyway thank you so much for making this video, i was pulling my hair out - at least i learned how to format a new xbox hdd and got a 500gb spare and an extra disc drive in the process
Well done Vince, the only channel that i will watch every video posted, even a fridge lol, great work
Thank you :-)
Badass bro,, you totally got me wanting to start working on these myself...did my first controller mod, hard drive swap and shell swap yesterday day and have a new hobby im about to dive into..thx alot for your video man
Hello vince,
So today I turned my xbox on and the error e100 happened! Stuck on 58% something went wrong! I went to a local computer shop twice to purchase USB stick 64gb and external hard drive caddy! I tried the offline update method with no joy. So with that matter I had to remove hard drive as I gained access to the inside the sata cable from Blue Ray disc drive to the main motherboard was actually disconnected. Dont know how as my xbox hadn't moved but I reconnected the cable in hope it would fix the problem as you said on this video to check all connections. I put the xbox back together turned it on with the troubleshooter and reinstalled the offline update! It passes the58% stage and it's now currently up and running. Thank you vince and to everyone else who gets this problem in the future and willing to open your xbox check the connections before purchasing a new hard drive/console
Yeah year late but you’re a legend for this 👏
Another great video @My Mate Vince! I appreciate your methodical way of troubleshooting issues. I have also attempted Sega Game Gear repairs and so far I'm about 50% successful. It seems like the LCDs have their own issue unfortunately. I'm going to try transplanting an LCD from a bad board to a good board. You are my inspiration!
Great job Vince. You are getting better every video. I love watching these. Keep up the good content.
love your vids. i loved fixing things when i was young. i became a heating engineer fixing boilers and central heatings for a living. you should try that
Yes!! There’s another great repair vid by My Mate Vince. Thanks for making my birthday amazing!🎁
Thanks for watching it and hope you have/had a great birthday :-)
I had this on the old 360 , there is a key on the firmware of the cdrom, you could copy it over to the new drive from a pc , but it had to be a certain chipset on the pc motherboard can't remember which one now that long ago , don't know if the newer ones are the same but judging by the fix it is still the case ... great job Vince !!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You have no idea how much I appreciate this video as I just had the same problem I mean everything was the same thanks so much
Hi vince, love watching your videos, I have learned loads from you, can you tell me if its possible to have two external hard drives for storage on the xbox one s?, I know there is a few videos on UA-cam about this, but you never know who you can trust, many thanks,
Thanks man! I had two faulty Xbox one's that I was trying to fix and put the wrong Blu-ray drive in. After swapping, the update went through!
Vince, you are spoiling us with these videos. I love them. Can you fix my life?

Very good video mate this is the one I’m doing on repairs bit of pain int it I’m watching your videos while doing repairs 😉👍
great video Vince, nice fix.
Hey Vince, you most likely my favorite youtuber because you seem quite helpful for most people like me and show us things that some of us have never even heard of or tryed doing before keep it up! 😉 👍 #MyMateVince
Thank you. That is nice to hear :-)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I had the same problem and I spend 15 hours to fix it, I so glad to find your channel , thank you very much
Yep. Same
Glad you got it up and running! The problem with these modern systems is (for security reasons) the drive has a signature - an ID that the XBOX has stored in its flash ROM also, and when updating etc it checks the drive to make sure it has the same signature as the XBOX expects. If the signature is different they won't allow an update because you could be using some hacked drive or drive replacement solution. It's a little bonkers tbh because with the right level of hacking any replacement drive could be made to present the correct (original) signature, but I guess its a lot of work to hack these. Same thing was true of the 360 I believe.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this also applies to the OG Xbox as well. I found that out the hard way...
it not only was the case with the 360 but your hypothetical of hacking them to work regardless was also the case.
Yes, I know regards the 360 - I was one of the people looking at the 8051 firmware when they first started looking at the 360 DVD. In theory the same thing is probably possible on the XB1 drives, but they will have beefed up the security since the 360. Maybe the XB1 drives have already been hacked - no idea!
@@EllisPerhaps Actually it doesn't apply to the OG Xbox. Instead, the Hard drive is the one tied to the console but it can be easily replaced with modding tools
@@wormchickenwizard Ah.
Love your vids lol i just did the logic board swap on an xbox 360 great fix 😁👍great content
I'm like you Vince love finding out why things dont work and usually end up with 10 extra screws when putting things back together lol
+My MATE Vince Another superb video!! Congrats on reaching and surpassing 300,000 substers👍🎉
Vince do you have a game collection, if so it would be cool to see it. Good video as well!
great video. couldnt find anything informative and randomly spotted this video. good to know i too need another hard drive
Great video! I had the same problem. I unplugged my drive while it was applying the update, then plugged it back in and it worked. I did not use my console for a whole semester so I thought the update messed with it but I believe that the Xbox checks the hardware when updating
like you unplugged it when it was off? or just randomly during the update
Don't give up vince you are the best
I worked out what the issue was as soon as you said he swapped the optical drive, microsoft have for a decade or more tied their optical drives to the board for anti tampering.
Did he ever explain to why he brought a new optical drive and swapped it?
great video keep up the good work one thing i'm curious about is that the Xbox one S is close to £400 new or more in some places but there still using a standard mechanical 5400rpm or 7200rpm 2.5" hard drive surely for that price they could fit a 500GB ssd instead as that would stop this issue from happening in the future also it would improve speed, reliability and load times.
You are awesome! Love your videos! Thanks for sharing!
Good job - I bet Jamie was pleased!
Great Work Vince
Hay vince great vids good work, can you tell me please where I can get that blue mat your working on cheers buddy 👍🏼
Hi I just want to say big thank you mate. You have helped me to fix my console the original xbox one. My solution for error e100 00000703 80910006 was to plug only disk board(cause I had few lol) to the console of course being very careful to not short anything and then I switched console back on. I have been surprised because it started from the point where it stoped so about 60 procent and finalize the update process. I fixed few consoles in the past and had few disk boards so by my mistake I put wrong one inside lol. Hope this will help to anyone. Your video is regarding wee bit different error code but it looks like there is connection and might help others too. Take care
At the end, when you couldn't use the controller to turn off the console at the beginning of the initial setup, wouldn't just pressing the power button once turn it off nicely as well? (As opposed to holding the power, forcing a shut down). Great job on fixing another piece of hardware!
You can run an Xbox without the CD ROM, But you will need it for system updates or you get the E100 error code. Love the vids 👍
hi Vince... you mentioned you didn't want people sending you stuff in to fix because you didn't want to let them down if you couldn't fix it... but what if people wanted to send you things to fix like as in a donation... freely ... if you will... without asking for it back fixed or not... to do with it what you like? maybe you could fix things... cover you're costs and donate them to kids/people that are not well off...? just an idea.
good video again.
Zee Wolf great idea
Could do a prize draw or a giveaway for things he’s fixed, boosts the channel with freebies and creates content at the same time
That's a really good idea!
That really is a great idea!
Wipe drive and reformat...Great Vince
Vince, you make me smile =3
I could watch this because your honest about everything
Nice one mate hope the lad ya done it for is grateful for what ya done I would be
Awesome video Vince. :)
Thanks mate :-)
I would do this some more. Not all People but some people. For the challenge just make sure to let the People that wanna send something that you want to fix. Just the risk of .... I would take the more difficult challenges. Nice video and keep it coming! Doing this to, and i'm also a amateur. Like the challenges in fixing
Incredible what you did! I have a question, if someone could help i'll be great, i have the same problem (E100) so in other words, you just format the Hard drive with help of a PC? Or what did you do to the Drive? My Xbox has the original Drive and never has been opened
Good job Vince!
Thank you :-)
Good fix Vince.
You're videos seem very interesting!! 🔥
Awesome video as always
Thank you :-)
Great! A trying to fix video on my birthday
Happy birthday 🎂

Happy Birthday! It's always nice to sit back in the evening and watch Vince fix something.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos. The only thing I wonder about is: why are you doing it on the floor? :)
Gamecube faulty repair would be good :)
ALL the olds ones....maybe a Dreamcast, Sega Saturn and PS1....lol
DYJ1T4L Nep ya
I have a faulty Gamecube that I got from eBay. I think it has a problem reading the discs. I will hopefully get it done in December :-)
My Mate VINCE nice. I have a working gamecube and it’s awesome
Vince: This is the xbox.
Alexa: i dont know that one.
*Alexa: Proceeds to talk*
I got the same issue in Xbox one x. I don’t understand what you did by adding it to the pc. Did U format it ? Did u put the files from the osu ?
So have the fixable systems been good so far to this point ? Was thinking of doing the same as it is Kinda fun to fix .
I bought my second 360 from ebay, it was giving an error and was 30$ because the seller just gave up. A quick google search later provided a failed update error code was the problem, after buying it and applying the update, voila! All it takes is a little time and effort sometimes. And yeah, even the 360 won't be happy if you swap drives all willy nilly. It's got a key in the drive that has to match up to the system's record. It's important to search error codes, as it's there for helping you find out what went wrong!
I know this is a super old video but I had this exact issue a few weeks back while learning how to repair Xbox One X's. I swapped disc drives without swapping the internal board of the drives and every time I ran the offline updater it failed as E100. Once I swapped the daughterboards of the disc drives everything worked fine. E100 usually applies to hardware issues in my experience.
Great video. Well done!
Hello Vince! You seem great at fixing things, can you fix my parent's marriage? Thanks in advance! :D
Nah mate , lmao
Damn deep shit
Man you beat me to that now Vince will fix your parents marriage and I’m screwed!!
Marriages come faulty from the factory, it would need a recall to fix them. :)
Yuck.
Love these videos but I have to ask mate. Why are you making most of these on the floor? My back and knees aches just thinking about it.
Maybe because so there's more room?
Absolutely love your channel....great content. Seeing someone as yourself who's not a professional in the true sense of the word. How about setting up a P.O box and ask the viewers to send in certain faulty items that they DON'T WANT BACK even if they do get fixed i.e; phones one time & consoles another time. instead of you buying items from ebay....donating the consoles for sick children at your local Hospital, sure that'll be worth everyone's time in sending items to yourself and of course you applying your magic to them....bet views would also increase, win, win situation for all.
I saw the blue mat you're using on Amazon and have considered purchasing it, what are your honest thoughts on it?
The anti static mat is a really good purchase, I've got it too. Just be careful with parts of it as theres a few magnets inside it for holding screws or other things.
I have used it for around 2 months (I think). I would buy it again. You have to give it a good clean as it stinks when new. I left it outside to off-gas for 4 or 5 days and now it is perfect :-) BUT I do not have anything else to compare it to :-)
This is the first one of your videos that I have watched where you actually managed to repair something lol
Whats the device u r using to show us stuff??
Nicely done!!
thankyou so much. This helped me with my xbox :D
That blue mat you use what product is that? I would love to buy one.
Liking the vid, but I have to ask about your methods. Did you swap the BD drive before wiping the HDD and it didn't work? It just occurs to me that if the swapped drive was the only issue stopping it updating then the data could have been saved. Seeing as that was the thing that changed prior to failure, it would have to be the logical first thing to check IMO. Having said that, not knocking you & all interesting vids plus the guy got his console working again. Now if there is an issue with the drive at least you can tell him he needs to swap the board over if replacing it... (or just repair whatever the issue was with the original drive.)
I just read the description after posting lol, it was already formatted so there was no data to be saved. Still might have saved you some time checking the original BD drive, wouldn't have been as interesting a video though. FWIW when it kept failing at the write stage consistently on 58% I was thinking damaged HDD as well & thinking a partition might get around the dead area.
Vince is the best Vince is the best
I knew right away what the problem with the error during update was because the PS3 is the exact same way. It will error out during update without the exact, correct optical drive installed since they are married to the motherboard.
@12345 12345 nope.
Not unless you get a new drive and swap out the motherboard in the drive for the one paired with your motherboard.
Friend thank you very much for the tutorial, and to all who with their comments provided alternatives. I had already tried almost everything to fix the ERROR E100, until I stopped to watch your video and if you were right, format the hdd with the win program, create the usb osu1 and reinstall the original cd-rom boot. Problem solved my Xbox One S is alive again, updated and working properly. Thank you from Puerto Rico
i have a similar problem with my current xbox.. im getting a mixture of error codes. could it be that my files are corrupted; and that i just need to wipe and replace the old files with the new?? (i never had disk player problems) can i have some help? :(
What is the tool you used called you plugged the hard drive into
Grate video has always i enjoyed it
Good vid as allways
Been dealing with this problem for the past year. If anyone sees this, I finally figured out a fix for myself. May not work for everyone. Take your console apart, unplug the hdd and disk drive. (Clean her real good if it needs it.) plug everything back in and bam. No more update loop. Granted I have a feeling I will need to do this every time it throws the code.
i have not long fixed my sons ds and i am so happy with it first time soldering in over 10 yrs lol
Hello, I was wondering where you get your lots as I want to try fixing some consoles as I have the same building passion as you, however, I don't seem to be able to find these on eBay. I may be searching wrong. Thanks!
Hi, I search these words on eBay....faulty.....broken....spares or repair....not working...I look for ending soonest on All Auctions or newly listed on Buy it Now :-)
@@Mymatevince Thanks! Just one last question I was wondering what type of screwdrivers I should get and if you have any recommendations that are cheap as I have already picked out a multimeter.
Can I ask You, where I can buy this blue pad what are you using?
Thanks.
get this man to 500k
Hi Vince can you tell me were l can get a motherboard for the Samsung galaxy a3 2017 because can not see one on ebay maybe lam not looking in the right place
when you got it fixed it had gone it to full screen and at that moment i knew you fixed it
almost a year ago a fried my gba motherboard trying to do the backlight mod, maybe you could do a tutorial too :) getting me back in to that project
So is it possible this problem was solved purely by reformatting and flashing the HDD with the Xbox stuff and actually had nothing to do with the optical drive?
