Last time i saw similar behavior like that, I was watching NYPD Blue and Sipowitz protected the Lt of his squad. he was gay too and Andy had his back. Even when they didn't like each other.
There's something about watching this scene for the first time after all those years of first being introduced to Stacy Keach as "Papa Titus" in Titus that absolutely threw me for a loop.
I already truly enjoyed the show, but it's at this point my respect grew immensely. My brain did think however that in the flashback, instead of homo he could have used 2 other words, but they would probably be too hard hitting to say in a comedy show for daytime TV, and the point had been made super clear regardless. Great show and super disappointed with myself for not watching it sooner
This is my favorite Jake & Holt moment. I grew up a strict Christian and had horrible backward and ignorant views towards gay people. I am now an atheist, and I look back at those times with a lot of shame in my heart. It must feel really good to know that someone in the Police force would punch his own hero to protect their honor and defend his Homosexuality and to then not take credit for it. It is a huge difference from the bigotry Holt experienced when entering the force. You can see the pride on his face.
The problem is in order to do that, you'd have to ignore a lot of what the bible teaches. At which point, why follow the Bible at all. There is a very good reason why most homophobes are Christians.
I grew up in a strict, conservative Christian household as well. Shamefully I repeated their bigotry and words until I finally stopped lying to myself and trying to direct my anger and hate at others for no reason other than my own self hatred. I grew and became a better person. I stopped fighting the fact that I am a lesbian and I am Non-binary. Once I accepted myself it was eaiser to be kind and open to others. It's ok to grow from a bad place, it's ok to admit you were ignorant and mislead. You can't erase what you said or did,but you can learn from it and try your best to learn more each day. Remember we are all human beings, deserving ofove and being given a chance to be good. That includes you.
The show runners expecting us to believe that “homo” is a justifiable reason to bunch someone because they didn’t have the balls to put him saying “fag” on TV.
Homo might not be as bad as fag but it’s still a slur and still worth punching someone over, when used in that context. Besides, it’s not so much as what exactly he said, it’s the the fact he made it clear he didn’t respect Holt for being gay, and that’s why Jake punched him.
You act as though the network would allow it. Homo still gets the point across. You don't have to jump to an extreme to understand something's immoral, and if you do, your target audience must be really damn stupid.
You know if you take out the phobe in the title. It reads as Jake Punches A Homo. With the thumbnail including Holt it kinda gets ominous. I bring this up as I misread the title while scrolling.
This scene is so good because honestly I think Jake would have been upset and done something about the homophobic comment anyways, because he a genuinely good guy- but in the context of his and Holt’s growing relationship, his past of looking up to the person who said it, and his shift to start looking up to and at Holt now in the present, this scene is just so much more meaningful. Jake would have punched the guy anyways for the comment, but if it wasn’t holt he was punching the guy for, he would have told the person. He chose to hide it from holt because he cared about holt, and wanted to take holts anger, not be praised for doing what is probably the obviously right thing in his mind. He didn’t need praise. He didn’t want it. And I think that shows some character growth, that Jake never told holt himself; he put his own pride aside

I guess that guy was lucky it was Jake he was talking to instead of Rosa😂😂😂
I’m amazed that Jake wasn’t suspended for what he did, he wasn’t an on duty cop, but he still physically assaulted Brogan, and the provocation defence wouldn’t really help him, my guess is that Brogan was such a hard ass that he chose not to press charges because he’s simp like a wimp otherwise
You never mess with Jake's father figure.
God the SOUND on that punch like
Holy hell jake did not hold back
Deserved but like jake is awesome

Holt plays Amy so well. What great acting.
I read the title like 'Jake purchase a homophobe' so i was fuckin' confused!😆
😂😂😂😂
I hear that they sell them in Tennessee.
No offence to those that live in Tennessee. I just loathe that the state banned books that have gay characters in it or anything to do with being gay.
No no, I live in Tennessee, and you have a point
@@FREAKE_DJ Thank you.
Well, in this moment, he absolutely owned that guy, so in a way, he did kind of purchase him.
Jake Peralta: crouching moron, hidden badass.
"Jimmy Brogan wouldn't know a legit cop, if he punched him in the face"
You could LITERALLY see the moment Holt realize why his time at the 99 was gonna be special. New captain, had a screw up detective who had no reason to defend him, but punched out his idol because of his disrespect towrds Holt. Iconic
I loved this episode so much
I would have loved to have seen Kevin’s reaction when Holt told him this story.
Captain, Captain, oh my captain. You shall be missed! 😢 R.I.P you beautiful soul
Proud Daddy moment
To be honest, this is both an action of police overreach and the only correct action when out in that situation
Holt and Jake have the best relationship of the entire show
And you can't change my mind
i feel like it was more than respect, itwas probably the only time anyone had ever stood up to someone for talking behind his back about him which he knows has happened to him his whole career
Holt looks so weird when eh was slim
Tank!

As a former Spokane resident who still remembers the Otto Zehm case and how it was handled, I'd just like to say that I saw nothing.
I love how it seems.

“What?…”
Yup, see now I gotta hurt ya!

Amy: You know. The funny thing is I know you’re playing me. But you’re right.
honestly I think he said something much worse and Santiago had to say "homo" in the retelling of the story. Either way, Jake rules just for that
The look on Holt's face after Amy left... can see he didn't see that coming. Much like the fat guy didn't see Jake's right hook coming.
"No one talks shit about my dad"
One of the best scenes ever
The irony of calling someone a homo while in a men's sauna, wearing nothing but a towel.
Goddamn I love the captain. Wish real cops were like this.
Sometimes you gotta punch your heroes.
Man, I love Stacy Keach. Man played a dickhead so well despite being a stand-up guy.
RIP Andre Braugher
Holt: huh, that’s my boy
the start of the character evolution of Jake
I know this is a funny joke for tv, but I have to admire Jake he that one friend that will die for you, while putting himself.
RIP Andre
Last time i saw similar behavior like that, I was watching NYPD Blue and Sipowitz protected the Lt of his squad. he was gay too and Andy had his back. Even when they didn't like each other.
jake peralta 🤝 maggie pierce
I love the smile on holts face after
you know this is ficiton when it pretends cops arent all homophobic
Sooooooo every single cop is homophobic. Damn just when I thought I saw the most ignorant person on the internet, you showed your face.
“All” is a little over the top. I mean I’m a lesbian. My wife is a cop and her sergeant is a lesbian. 😅🤣 so maybe “most” is more applicable
00:38 You can watch her heart drop 😂
And that is why you don’t meet your idols, kids!
There's something about watching this scene for the first time after all those years of first being introduced to Stacy Keach as "Papa Titus" in Titus that absolutely threw me for a loop.
Stacey Keach is a legend
Ever since we heard captain holt’s tell I now look to see if I can find it in any of his videos.
i would also punch anyone who insulted my dad
Good for you. Daddy raised a violent boy.
@@EmptyMan000I wish your dad had raised a stain on his bed sheets instead of your snowflake a**. Seriously, grow a pair.
Rip holt ❤
Integrity and honor first, nice work Jake. Although now he's probably going to have to wash that hand after getting all that bigot slime on it.

Season 1 Episode 8: Old School.

@@pakalakusumaharinath thxs so much
This is my favorite Jake & Holt moment.
As a Christian myself, I prefer to think about the doctrine, "Love thy neighbor".
The problem is in order to do that, you'd have to ignore a lot of what the bible teaches. At which point, why follow the Bible at all. There is a very good reason why most homophobes are Christians.
No need to feel shame I assume it was drilled into you I’m proud of you for Realizing it’s wrong
You learnt better, you did better. Well done you 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾
I grew up in a strict, conservative Christian household as well.
Let’s not ignore the performance of Stacy Keach, who continues to deliver, even when it’s a character with a despicable flaw.

What episode is this
I don’t remember this scene with Amy, but damn am I glad it happened
Nice
Stacy Keach is awesome here too. I was half hoping he’d launch into some of his “American Greed” narrations.
The show runners expecting us to believe that “homo” is a justifiable reason to bunch someone because they didn’t have the balls to put him saying “fag” on TV.
You're dad should've hit you more, you would've been less of a whiner
@@shoeboxbistro fag
Less the balls and more the network wouldn't them.
“My… my son defended me… and i hurt him…”
I liked how they addressed social issues in the earlier seasons but season 8 was too hammy with it.
You know if you take out the phobe in the title. It reads as Jake Punches A Homo. With the thumbnail including Holt it kinda gets ominous.
I bring this up as I misread the title while scrolling.
As we all know, police inflicting physical violence on those who disagree with them is a good thing
if theyre bigots then yes, agreed
When you write gay CHARACTER instead of GAY character. Also R.I.P the 🐐
YOOOO that's the Warden from Prison Break season one, dude looks almost the same nearly 20 years later.
