I did this recently. I wanted to move but was worried about my brother. Then I thought to myself, what would my brother do if he had this opportunity. And guess what. He was already thinking about moving himself and not worrying about me. So I’m moving in a couple of months. Thanks Mel ❤️❤️❤️
i love these rather short, but straight-forward advice videos! no fancy editing, no BS. that's the kind of content i like to watch and produce myself. keep it up, Mel! 🔥
I literally discovered this by myself naturally over the years. These days when I am freaking out over something or have a problem, I look at it like it's not mine and think of how to tackle it as an outsider. Because yup, we are all amazing advice givers, but suck at following our own talk lol
CPTSD makes decision making so hard because we don’t trust ourselves. My gosh that’s such a great tip. Saying your own name aloud like that is way better than saying ‘I need to do what is best for me’. Slam dunks it right home. Thank you Mel 🖐️
Yes! I often find that other people see more in me than I see in my self. So while I'm dithering about whether or not I can or should do something, a true friend will say YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY DO THIS! And I believe them. But if I have no one on my side, FEAR tends to keep me stagnant.
I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to tell my boss / upper management that I’m changing careers and I kept thinking about how it was going to impact them due to my “whisper from the universe” telling me its time for a change. I was nervous all day today! Now, I’m going to 5,4,3,2,1.... & do it! Thank you Mel, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Been following Mel for a couple years since her TED Talk. Her energy and enthusiasm for helping people is tangible. But this piece of advice is so profound. I'm going to implement the power of objectivity TODAY! Thank you for all your incredible videos Mel. I LOVE THIS! SO POWERFUL!
I watched three of your videos in a row. Short and clear. And after worrying for 2 weeks.. I already feel better and more confident about it, thank you
thank you so much Mel Robbins your hacks are incredibly simple but effective as a big bucket full of cold water which makes anyone wake up. I'm so grateful for what you continuously share. Someday I would love to meet you, you are the kind of frienship everyone would love to have.
Thanks for this Mel. Sometimes the smallest ways of tackling the big stuff is the most impactful. I went self employed this year after being in employed work for over 15 years and I had 2 elements holding me back, fear of failure and the what if’s. I used this along with other techniques you have given in your blogs and posts inc your book and all I simply want to say is THANKYOU!
Awesome! I do this for my friends; I ask them, If the situation were reversed, how would you advise me? And leave it up to them, whether they take their own advice or not. Time to take that one step further & ask it of myself. Thanks Mel & much Love
Hi Mel, thanks for sharing so much with us...My challenge is to watch a video (of you) each day this month . I love these short videos actually and I watch even 2 or 3 per day! You're fantastic! I am grateful!
So clear and bright! It’s always an evidence to decide for others but when it comes to us we have muddled ideas and not so sure concerning our choices! Thank you so much for your good sense!
You are amazing Mel. I know that's your job right? I watched this at a very important fork in the road for me and your hack has given me a way to get the perspective I need to decide what is best for me. I am one of your 841K subscribers and right now I feel justified in being that subscriber. Thanks for deciding to make this video! You tell it like it is and I wouldn't have it any other way. ❤
Treat Yourself Like A Friend! Really Think About And Do What's Best For You! I Was Just Telling A Friend To Do This For Herself The Other Day! (And I Will Share This With Yet Another Friend Today!) Thanks, Mel! I Love You!🤗 PS. Loving You Without The Glasses! (Loved You With Them, Too!)
I've also learned this recently when I encountered difficult times. What's weird is it seems that negative emotions truly hinder our ability to make critical decisions in life. Specifically anger, sadness, fear, etc play a role and not everyone is aware of it. Turning emotions off and analyzing whats the best decision in every situation is a skill needed to be learned by everyone.
This really helped me! I just had to make a decision a couple of days ago that was what was best for me. I felt like a load of rocks had been lifted off of me.
Btw, looking marvelous! Love the hair and makeup!! And CANNOT WAIT to get my new Mel Robbins, 5 Second Planner!!! It’ll be here Friday! I wish Amazon had next day shipping!!
I've got my 5-second journal and use it everyday, I love it, it looks as though there's enough space for six months, will order another one later in the year!
Mel, this is a very helpful video. With all the things I have on my shoulders, I am afraid to make wrong decisions. Managing my online business and to be an affiliate marketer at the same time, my busy schedule in the evening before I sleep, I tend to think a lot about what decisions I need to make for the benefit of my career, business, and most importantly my self. This certainly helped me today to realize a lot of things. Thanks for sharing this amazing video!
Great video, Mel! I use to make wrong decisions that some affects the way I look at things. After realizing that sometimes we make decisions that aren't smart enough, I stayed focused and determined. I started planning and making sure that everything is thought of. My online business helped me in so many ways in decision making and now I appreciate a lot of things more than before.
Awesome ! I often use "what would Buffy do ?" And it ends with me, kicking asses metaphorically and physically, and being a kind of "5 second rule" girl ! Although she doesn't help to decide professional matters ...
hi Mel just wanted to thank you for the 5 sec rule book. i got the audio book some time back and i loooooove it. i was just like where have you been my life long :D :D huge big thank you
Mel,ur really awesome. Each time i see ur video,i feel so fascinated. Ur one of my favorite mentors and I'm really grateful for everything u taught me. Thank you so much Mel😊❤ #The5SecondRule is always the best choice😉😉
That's a video that is very important for me. Most of the time, in my life i did whatever was the best for the people around me, expecially my mom (I'm italian you know...). After all i'm 35 yo and i think i've never lived. I quit my last job because i wasn't happy, not even a single day. And now, everybody is pushing me to find another job. Whatever job just to say i have a job. But i need time to rebuild my life and understand what i really want to do. Apparently time is not an option. I left my last job 15 days ago and everybody is pushing but i need to breath. I'll push myself when i'll be ready to go. But, that's my question for you: I know i'll never be ready, so should i take a stop time/breath or push myself again now and maybe doing the same mistakes i made to take my decisions because i'm scared and i want to stop people talking about me and my job situation?
Another great video ! Now, here is a good decision Mel could take : " I'm going to forget my eyeglasses more often because I am looking pretty good without them" ! ;-)
Good advice and it forces you to closely follow a mentor or two. Of course you can never know what your mentor would do in your shoes, and if you knew, this may not apply equally well to you... but hey, this is the closest you can get and it's good enough. I'll take it!
Very well said!!! This is such a valuable lesson to utilize for ourselves and to be able to teach our Children. So many people feel bad (myself included) when making decisions that may affect others. It doesn't make us selfish when we put ourselves first and do what is right for us!!! Thank You for confirming this and sharing these tools!!!
Very interesting! What I usually like to do is I imagine if a close one (e.g a sister or a friend), come to me with similar situation, what would I suggest to them? This helps me get objectivity to my situation in another way. Definitely will try this one too!
I did this recently. I wanted to move but was worried about my brother. Then I thought to myself, what would my brother do if he had this opportunity. And guess what. He was already thinking about moving himself and not worrying about me. So I’m moving in a couple of months. Thanks Mel ❤️❤️❤️

Mel Robbins Thanks Mel! :D
Spiritually I say what would Jesus do??? Love your enemies forgiveness helps us move forward keeps us from getting stuck and being unsuccessful

It is important to take the advice you give others, that is what I tell myself when I have to make an important decision
Decision making-the thing I struggle the most in my life! thank You Mel!
So true. What is needed next is your video on being OK with disappointing other people.
So I was struggling with a pretty stupid decision, and the first 10 seconds of your videos literally just solved it

Did you follow through?

This info is like finding a gold nugget. Small bit of info, yet it’s so impactful and can be life changing. 👌🏾

This is life changing advice. The video deserves to be higher up in the UA-cam algorithm today. Thank you for the impact you make.

khanehdiangurl Love that!!!
I have heard of and tried many other decision makeing tips but have never heard of this one. I think it's good enough to try. Thanks, Mel!
Hi Mel, thanks for sharing so much with us...My challenge is to watch a video (of you) each day this month . I love these short videos actually and I watch even 2 or 3 per day! You're fantastic! I am grateful!

Always go within and there is the answer and nothing comes from without. Lol thank you for reminding me how much I admire me.
A simple concept that provides a practical, useful technique that can be put to immediate use. Thank you, Mel.

This really helped me! I just had to make a decision a couple of days ago that was what was best for me. I felt like a load of rocks had been lifted off of me.
I love it. I just did what was best for me last night. Sticking up for myself felt so good.

Very interesting!

Definitely will try this one too!
Thank you I need to share this asap🙏🏼
