At the time James wrote and recorded his song, James and his father both thought that his dad was dying. He needed a kidney transplant and without one he would have died. For the longest time they were unable to find a match. James wanted to do a tribute to his dad before he passed. Just so happened, a cousin of his dad saw the video found out what was happening to her cousin and offered to get tested. Luckily they were a match. James writing and recording this song saved his dad's life. Some things are just meant to be.
Thank you for this comment with the explanation!!! I was all messed up and confused. I was thinking, is this song about him telling his dad that it’s okay to let go, and then used his dying dad in the actual video?! Lmao so thank you!
So this cousin didnt know he was dying and saw a video then donated a kidney? Sounds weird cause if they're not close enough for the cousin to know why would they donate?
@@thehillshavepiestoot extended families lose touch all the time, people move and go on with their lives, doesn’t mean they don’t still love their family. His father was dying of kidney failure. He wrote the song to represent the role reversal of him now caring for his dad. His dad found a donor for a new kidney and yes that's his father.

At the time James Blunt recorded this song his dad was dying of stage 4 kidney disease and he wasn't a match to donate a kidney. Fortunately his cousin heard the song and what it was about and he turned out to be a match, and donated a kidney for him. But I think at the time this video was made James thought his dad was about to die.
@Mr.Video my day just got so much better! You always brighten my day! 💯💞 James and his father both served in the English military they both left the military with honors. The English way is to have a “stiff upper lip“ this is why when he says I’m not your son you’re not my father we’re just two men saying goodbye. It’s the English way to Be able to handle something this traumatic.
Story is that they both served in the British military and the line where he said we’re just 2 grown men saying goodbye was his father’s words to him as he left to fight in Kosovo ! His dad gave up a kidney to another and his remaining kidney was failing! The song was heard by a distant relative who stepped in to donate his kidney to the dad ! Emotional draining wonderful song!

I lost my dad at 83 yrs old after a long fight with heart failure. I have managed to avoid listening to the song for years. Now I am sitting here crying, thinking about me and daddy at his end. I don’t know whether to thank you or slap you (virtually, of course) 😂 l do like that you’re doing music again. 🌎✌️
Omg to see someone try to react to this powerful song but not understand what it is about is gut wrenching. I hope you eventually figure it out. Its a beautiful emotional very special song most of us can relate to. The scared look in his eyes is grief. He is grief stricken while trying to comfort his dying father. It’s my time to chase the monsters away. Not a time of being father n son or revisiting any wrongdoings of past. It’s just two men who love eachother deeply saying goodbye. Omg just deeply beautiful.

Your back to music vids? 💪👏👏👏💜 I've truly been missing you Leo!
Ok MR.VIDEO!! It’s YOUR JOB TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND EXPLAIN IT TO US!! Thank you! 🤓❤️
Glad to see you back reacting to music again! As you can see from the other comments this song was a final farewell to his dad.
Missed hangin with ya, Its going to take me forever to catch up, but totally worth it...Such a beautiful, unique voice...Today is the anniversary of my fathers death, so crazy when music comes to you at just the right moments...Thanx Mr V, Awesome reaction, Peace
Yay! So glad to see you back doing music. You are one of my faves
I held my father's hand and told him it was OK and he could rest now... that was over a decade ago... this beautiful song touched me so hard and so deep. Thank you for having this on your channel. I'm gonna go mop my face now.
Love you!!! So happy you’re back doing 🎶 😊
I'm going through this now. My Dad just turned 95 years old.
Thanks for the reaction Mr.V great heartfelt song.
So happy you are back, I’ve missed your music videos. You are the best!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Love any reactions you put out. This song is just so emotionally heavy. Hugs from Newfoundland.
YAY- he's doing music again!! Thank you MV!
I’m so happy to see you boo!😉
Omg to see someone try to react to this powerful song but not understand what it is about is gut wrenching. I hope you eventually figure it out. Its a beautiful emotional very special song most of us can relate to. The scared look in his eyes is grief. He is grief stricken while trying to comfort his dying father. It’s my time to chase the monsters away. Not a time of being father n son or revisiting any wrongdoings of past. It’s just two men who love eachother deeply saying goodbye. Omg just deeply beautiful.
Love you Leo!! Please do more music reactions. ❤👍🤙
