I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. WALTER PAYTON in Scottsdale Arizona. He was in a mall food court signing autographs. We spoke for 45 minutes. He told me "Sweetness is knowing God is with you always as I am #34" it was one of the greatest moments of my life.
Walter is not only my favorite football player of all time but he is one of my life heroes. Always the competitor and always, always quietly classy. A true gentleman. I miss you Walter. You made all who you touched, even in the smallest way, better for it.
I won’t ever forget how sorry I felt for Walter when he got his diagnosis. He announced it and a reporter asked “Are you scared?” And he said “Hell yes I’m scared. Wouldn’t you be?” I cried. 44 years old. Sin was good too. Now I’m dying and I’m scared but I’ve asked god to make me brave. It’s helping a lot. 18 months max. Likely it’ll be within 2 months. Multiple aneurysms all over
I really understand even more nowadays why my Dad wanted me to know about Walter Payton. He was very good at what he did, no doubt, but was such a model athlete off the field as well. I don't think there could've been a better nickname for Walter than "Sweetness." It's also so great reading all these positive reviews about him, too. It goes to show how many people appreciated watching Sweetness and miss him.
This really made me cry i have the mind set to become a nfl player but not the size but starting tomorrow i will be working out my hardest every day and grow and one day i might become just like walter payton
Walter Payton and Bo Jackson are my top 2 favorite running backs of all time. Jackson's career was short lived bc of his hip injury, but god he was a great runner. Also he was a quiet and humble man, even tho the media tried to portray him quite the opposite. Both of these men ran with so much power, straight from their hips. Such a joy to watch.
Yeah as a Bears fan, I have to say Bo Jackson would still own the yardage record for life if not for that injury. Walter is still the best to this day.
Bears fan from Tucson Az was born 83 didn't get to see much of him live but I did my homework never seen nothing like him. Tecmo Bowl made me a bears fan the old school knows what Im talking bout best team on game been waiting patiently our time is here GO BEARS!!!
I am a lifelong Bills fan, I bleed Red and Blue. That being said, I was and still am a massive Walter Payton fan. I loved watching him play because he was just poetry in motion. I was happy when he won the Super Bowl, even happier when he went to the Hall Have a Silver coin and card set that was made the day Walter was enshrined. And I cried buckets when Walter passed away. Thank you for the memories Walter. RIP !
Great video Thankyou for posting. I miss Sweetness and no matter what he is the greatest RB off all time and an amazing person. The latest book about him is horrible and I wish it would be banned. RIP Walter, you left way too early.
Walter Payton is the greatest running back in the game. He may not be the league's rushing leader anymore but he made his accomplishments playing for a Chicago team that gave mediocrity a bad name for most of his career. It wasn't until the last three seasons of his career that he played for a championship team. Before, that, he carried the team almost single-handedly. Makes me wonder how worse the Bears would have been without Walter. We all miss him.
Check your history. Payton set the single game rushing rtecord in his day with two hundred seventy something yards against the Vikings and he had the Flu!
@@citygirl5705 truth...this guy had anything and everything to gloat about...the one guy on the field that could brag and showboat all he wanted and all the ways in the world to back it up...but, he never did, not once, it was never about him
I grew up in Green Bay and when the Pack and Bears would meet, I was like the Pack is gonna lose again, Mr. Payton was the best in my generation also Barry Sanders in terms of playing runnimg back. RIP Mr.Peyton...:)
Great Human! Those today would be crying racism for the Story he told about his Dad! Nice to see He is intelligent and had a brain! Ppl today dont understand anything and automatically make assumptions
Interesting watching this as we prepare to vote in the 2012 election. A man who lost his father in jail because his medical condition was not understood refuses to call it racism when possibly it could be, yet we have a man in the White House and his supporters who insist that any criticism despite his horrendous record of failure IS racism. It's very sad to see how far downhill we've come as a nation. Walter was pure class, a great man who happened to be a great football player!
Kevin Davis Not only is Walter a better running back.. He's a better overall football player. He was a better receiver coming out of the back field, better blocker, better fundamentals, he could through the ball for God's sake.. AP maybe faster, bigger and stronger.. but not a better player. For as hard as Peterson tries and pushes himself, I promise you that Payton pushed himself even more. He's the ultimate try hard and a top 3 player of all time.
Walter Payton = The Greatest Running Back of All Time. Period...May he Rest in Peace.

Me too. He is so thoughtful and smart!

The best ever, period.
walter is very well spoken
Greatest all around running back, period!
what i love most is how he talks proper, not like running backs today. he was educated, probably because of his perfectionism
Greatest person and all around rb that ever lived. Besides his great humanitarian skills, he played life and football the way it was supposed to be.

St. Thelonious the Monk I’m a 49er fan and he is hands down the greatest on and off the field...

I MISS HIM HE WAS THE BEST
Few players in the NFL had this much class. Few people anywhere do.
