One of the classiest people in all of professional sports, the late GOAT, Walter Payton. I personally think that the number 34 should be retired throughout the NFL. R. I. P. Walter Payton and thanks for all the thrills you gave us as football fans.
He was autally a bad person some guy wanted to do documentary on him after he died and found a lot of bad things but after the goat died he thought it would be bad To release
He will always be my all time favorite hero. His heart was even bigger than his career in football. It was his work ethics that made him the greatest player in football, it was his unselfishness towards his teammates that led by example, But how he described his love for his family is a testament to way he is best remembered off the field as well as on the field . RIP , you have inspired a lot of people. We will keep your legacy alive forever
My parents were very close to Walter’s family, that when I was about 2 years old, my father acknowledged me in front of Walter and his family loved how handsome I looked and such. They almost felt like they were my “cousins”, as a result. And when Walter came over to me, and carried me up in his arms, he then said “I like your style, kid.” I didn’t know what to expect from that, at the time, but what I can expect now, was how honored and grateful I was, that a BEARS legend like “Sweetness”, would say all of that, about me, and about my parents. Like all of Chicago, the McCaskeys, and BEARS fans, or fans of him, I continue to miss that guy.
As a life long Bears fan born in 98 it hurts knowing that I never got the opportunity to see him play. He’s the greatest of all time no questions asked. Miss you Sweetness 💙🧡
98 was when I first started watching the Bears. I was 4 years old. I myself never got to see Walter play in person. However my dad was lucky enough to do so. He would tell me stories about watching Walter play at Soldier Field. It was really cool to hear his story. RIP Sweetness. GOAT Forever.
I'm an old man, seen him play 3x live and watched the Bears every Sunday as far back as I can remember. He was better than words. He has been my hero my entire life.
“Of course he didn’t listen to me. For sweetness. 12 seasons was enough. He had proved what he needed to prove. To himself and anyone who doubted him. And in 1987 he retired. When I saw him next in Chicago. Me as running back and him as broadcaster. He was barefoot, running hills, still living each day like his last. When I heard he died age 45 of liver failure I wasn’t surprised… I was just sad. People always think of us as rivals but he was one of the very few I liked and even fewer that I respected. He remains the only person I envy.” - Barry sanders
I met him the day before he was inducted down in Canton. He was so friendly, and he signed my Sports illustrated i handed him. What a great man and greatest RB in history. Rip sweetness
DA GOAT! Seriously the best player to ever play the game without him I don't think we would have the American tradition of playing football in the backyard or the kids and parents playing catch in the backyard. he made football great.
Payton was one of the best, As a Packer fan, he beat the crap out of us. I will always respect him and wish he would have played for the Packers. RIP Walter, all respect! :)
This is my first time watching this - very touching! I would see Walter Payton at the Chicago Stadium when I worked there - he would come to Chicago Bulls games. I would see Walter Payton also when I worked at O'Hare Airport - mostly picking up his baggage in the Baggage Claim area. His wife Connie is a very nice woman. She said hi to me once when I saw her at the airport with Brittany and Jarrett when they were very young. My best friend's husband was a camera man for one of the TV stations here in Chicago - he covered Walter's service at Solider Field, so I have Waler Payton's obituary. And one more thing - my sister and I went to his night club on Halloween one year - I think it was 1997, 98 - somewhere around there.
To my hero Walter Payton, Happy Birthday. Your endless dedication to hard work which was encapsulated in your workouts on the "Hill" has continued to inspire me since I was 8 years old. Thank you
I am a born and bred Buffalo Bills fan since age 3. That being said, I am also a massive Walter Payton fan. I have a Silver coin and card set that was made the day this video was shot. RIP Sweetness !
I hope you made it somewhere with that dream kid, Cause if you got the drive man you can do it if there are too many people doubting you, don’t start doubting yourself Then you could prove you could be great and talk shit along the way
This man died of cancer, at the age of 45? That is very sad and extremely bizarre at the same time. To say the least. I don't think Walter did drugs, smoked or drank alcohol. That's really none of my business. The fact that he could run like a greyhound and, had a great body and heart. Makes me wonder, about how can a man like Mr. Payton be taken away from the world at, such a early age. Maybe, it was genics? We will never know. One thing I do know that is a fact. He was a gentleman a team player and a very good football 🏈 player. Also a terrific Father and, husband. Walter wasn't a show off. Sweetness was the "show." God bless Walter Jerry Payton also his family member's. May his soul rest in peace.🙏
I was always curious how a man to be so physically gifted succumb to death so early. One theory is that he took painkillers, like Darvon, far too frequently and that is what led to bile duct cancer and his liver shutting down.
People always say Tom Brady is the Greatest Football player of all time sorry he’s not the Greatest Football player of all time he’s the Greatest QB of time. Walter Payton is the Greatest Football player of all time. Tom Brady can only throw the Football, Walter Payton not only could Run the ball he throw the ball he could block for u he did it all.
ctskepler you have to agree that Ditka wouldn't have thought about it and the Patriots were watching him like crazy, if he knew I think he would've given it to him
Totally meaningless whether he scored a TD in that one game or not. It is a shame that he considered it so important and remained bitter about it until death. Did not in any way diminish any of his accomplishments.
Even with Michael Jordan's accomplishments, Walter Payton, IMO, epitomizes the City of Chicago better than any athlete who's ever represented Chicago Team Sports!

Still to this day at almost 30 years old. Ernie Davis is the best. Idgaf. If it wasn’t for leukaemia he would have stormed over Jim Brown which is already considered the best, inwhich would have ran more yards.
"Everything good about me, I owe to other people. Everything that's bad about me, I earned that on my own." Spoken like a man, like a true gentleman.
It's something that all we must follow and believe great Walter Payton.

Bo was good but played 3 years and got injured Walter missed one game his 13 years of playing and only because the coach refused to let him play
Barry sanders is goat
I agree with Mr Payton even though Pete Rose fell on hard times he played his sport harder then anyone I've seen he was always going 100 mph.
200 pounds of power, grace, heart, agility, will. Pure style and total grace. A very special player!

Who was Payton's mistress at the time he delivered this speech?
Lita Gonzalez a flight attendant from New Jersey. There's a book "Sweetness" by Jeff Pearlman that goes into great detail of Payton's life.
