    This didn't include the intake manifold removal, which was an immense pain

    It would be a shame to go to all that trouble and not get the valves,seats and stem seals done

    lol unless the head is severely warped or your running big boost or using a mls head gasket you dont HAVE to surface the head just get it thoroughly cleaned up, running a composite head gasket give a lot of tolerance to informalities in the surface because it is a softer gasket, most head gaskets go because of poor cooling system maintenance followed closely by stretching head bolts which allow the compression rings around the cylinders to move.

      On the M family u have to machine the head or your gonna blow it again with aluminum head they warp easy

    I had a 1983 Celica GTS that was the same color. I couldn’t afford the Supra and always wanted one.

    Good job! But the exhaust eventually will break again, cast iron is hard to weld!

    except it wont go bang because its a non-interference engine but good tip nonetheless

    Not too big of a problem in the midwest since most Supras of that era have been scrapped due to excessive rust from the salt on the roads.

    This was my first car and it was red too! I had to replace the whole engine though. The previous owner put a rod through the block.

    The factory torque spec for the head is blah. I torqued mine down to 94 ft-lbs. Head gaskets are a common issue on the 5M.

    • @lakeshorerides
      @lakeshorerides 2 роки тому +2

      Not very common, only if overheated. 7m is more notorious for headgasket issues. Have had several mk2's and Cressidas without any issues headgasket or internal related.

    • @israelcalderon7357
      @israelcalderon7357 2 роки тому

      @@lakeshorerides yes the 7m came from factory under torqued so they would blow

    • @colinmadrid399
      @colinmadrid399 Рік тому

      @Robert Tadic the 5m had just as many headgaskets go as a 7m there damn near the same engine with the same problems

    I have a MkII Supra myself and have done a quite bit on it, but I actually didn't know the head could be removed without stripping off the valve towers! Anyway, the'll need to come off to change the gaskets that are the source of my oil leaks. :p

    Small parts of Wheeler Dealers episodes. It has no interest. Wheeler Dealers formerly with Edd China's had another charisma. It was a genuine and interesting program. they tried to change, they screwed up

    He really needs to explain items better.. most modern engine blocks and heads are aluminum. Yes the head bolts stretch when you instal them but the reason for the stretch is prevent the head from warping if hot spots occur and to contain the flexing or expansion of the block under high heat situations
