The Beatles version for me. There is not a lot of difference in the new mix and the old mix. The 2009 releases sounded pretty good too. I remember at the time thinking it was pretty cool that a band like Siouxsie and the Banshees were covering the Beatles!
I'm familiar with both versions and I think the difference is that the Beatles recorded in 1968, but their version wouldn't have been out of place if it was released five years later wheras Siouxsie's version belongs in its time of the mid 80's and doesn't offer anything new. The album track was better than the single version which shows the level of brilliance offered by the White Album.
Are you kidding me. It’s a masterpiece by the Beatles. Masterful vocals and harmony, guitar riffs that fit perfectly with some unexpected moves,. perfect bass parts, drums right on. A message of love. Takes you away. The essence of what music can do. Soughzie lost the whole essence of the song. It’s not an uptempo rock song. It is a message of love Their vocals don’t compare. The instrumentation is simplistic standard rock style. If the original didn’t exist it would be ok, but it totally misses the mark in comparison to the BEATLES.
Siouxsie's take on "Dear Prudence" was the biggest hit for the band reaching no.3 on the U.K. charts. Julian Lennon liked it & in "Lennon: A Tribute" Sean Ono Lennon even holds up a pic of Siouxsie (from a magazine) while doing his own rendition of the song. Now you should compare The Beatles & Siouxsie's renditions of "Helter Skelter". Siouxsie drops an "F" bomb in her rendition (from the 1978 album "The Scream") & amazingly got away with it.

Unsurprising but the Beatles for me although I do like the Siouxsie version. Would like to see you do 'Helter Skelter' - Beatles v U2 v Souxsie! Cheers!
Not only is the Beatles' original better, but it's more interesting as well. It takes a fairly simple verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure and constantly changes things up with the arrangement to make you pay attention. The Banshees' version is perfectly fine (one of the better Beatles covers, even) but it doesn't have the same build the original does. It kind of starts where the original climaxes, and then proceeds to drone on for its full duration, with Siouxsie drenching the music in (at the time) fashionable echo overload. The Banshees' version is dreamy and somewhat "aggressive", but the Beatles' original is childlike and bouncy. And those are different kinds of magic.
I love both of these, for me I can't choose between them, I love both for different reasons. If you'd like another Beatles comparison I recommend, 'Strawberry Fields Forever' by The Beatles and 'Candy Flip'.
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Speaking of Glasgow, Glaswegian Lulu did a cover of "The Man Who Sold the World" in 1974, Bowie sang the backing vocals on it.
@@davidmacgregor5193 aye that’s right . Her version was the one I was familiar with until Nirvana did it and the comparisons with Bowie were mentioned which forced me to check it out and be blown away by the creator of this masterpiece . 👌 👍🏴
This is my #1 favorite song and while I like Siouxsie & the Banshees their version pales next to the Beatles original. On the later one the instrumentation doesn't change and the singing isn't Siouxsie's best effort, not like her earlier cover of 'Helter Skelter' which you should check out. The production on the Beatles' version is excellent, the song ebbs and flows, instruments drop in and out, climaxing with the electric guitar and piano. Paul's bass changes with each verse. The song fades in at the beginning with John's finger-picking and fades out with it at the end, like a cloud touching down and lifting off again, brilliant. Give a listen to the 'Deconstructing Dear Prudence' video to hear the separate instruments. ua-cam.com/video/dmN2DlxzSgY/v-deo.html
The Beatles changed the way record albums were made in the studio. There's not much difference in the way the recordings sounded back in the day vs. now. I suggest listening to their albums on vinyl if you can. Love your guys reactions by the way.
Agree that the Beatles changed the way albums were recorded, but you're way off suggesting that there's not much difference today. And the Beatles could share that distinction with a lot of figures throughout history; perhaps mentioning Phil Spector, Brian Wilson and Les Paul could balance things out, with a nod to pioneering hip hop artists. The Beatles worked with a great producer and some truly talented engineers like Emerick, Johns and the great Ken Scott. Meanwhile, Brian Wilson was matching or at times exceeding this triumvirate of talent on his own.
To each his own as to preferences in music. There have been over 100 covers of Dear Prudence, which in itself tells you how loved the original by the Beatles is. What most of the covers do NOT capture is (IMO) a big part of what made the original so great. The sparse acoustic beginning, slowly adding more & more instruments & complexity leading to a crescendo....only to end with a reprise of the simple acoustic guitar.
Two masterful bands but I have to give it to the Banshees because I love the dreamier mood and atmosphere they brought to the song, and I’m such a huge fan of Siouxsie’s singing. Plus, I’m a sucker for the heavy reverb. I love a song that sounds like it was recorded in a cathedral lol
Thank you that's exactly what i would have said if I'd paid attention in English class and learnt how to put a sentence together lucky for me i was sitting next to you and I'm copying what you said without the grammar or correct spelling so i should be able to get away with it
I'm shocked that you didn't know this Beatles song. Wow. Siouxsie's version is pretty good but doesn't come even close to this classic song from 'The White Album'. Thanks for the upload.
I'm a huge Souxie Soux fan and always loved the Banshees, but I have to be honest and say that John, Paul, George and Ringo run away with this song. Purely my opinion but Souxie and the Banshees did this just for chart sales.
@@Starburst_Candy isn't that the point of singles? And in fact, the entire music business? Didn't you want them to be successful? I'm not seeing the problem here.

@@hanierfamily Cool, I don't remember but I will have seen it if it is.
And Shakespear's Sister's cover.
You should do a video on the Slits - Man Next Door vs Massive Attack s version and then do the original by the Paragons for reggae weekend :)
Not only is the Beatles' original better, but it's more interesting as well. It takes a fairly simple verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure
and constantly changes things up with the arrangement to make you pay attention. The Banshees' version is perfectly fine (one of the better Beatles covers, even)
but it doesn't have the same build the original does. It kind of starts where the original climaxes, and then proceeds to drone on for its full duration,
with Siouxsie drenching the music in (at the time) fashionable echo overload.
Loved the Candy Flip cover back in the day :D
@@Problembeing I think that they did a good job of it, I hope that they do a reaction to it.
I'd managed to eradicate that from memory sir! Now its in my head again 😮
@@Sandy-dd4leLove it or hate it, it's one which sticks with you.
@@Adam_Le-Roi_Davis. tbh, I haven't heard it in many years, I suspect I still had hair the last time I did, perhaps it's improved over time.
Robert Smith of The Cure on Guitar too. Banshees win. :)
Hey guys here’s a pretty good vs for next week or after…David Bowie vs Nirvana on David’s song “The man who sold the world”
Agreed 💯.. ahead of time it’s Bowie by the length of Suchiehall street in Glasgow 😅
👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Speaking of Glasgow, Glaswegian Lulu did a cover of "The Man Who Sold the World" in 1974, Bowie sang the backing vocals on it.
@@davidmacgregor5193 aye that’s right . Her version was the one I was familiar with until Nirvana did it and the comparisons with Bowie were mentioned which forced me to check it out and be blown away by the creator of this masterpiece . 👌
👍🏴
The Siouxsie & the Banshees version was obviously crafted to be a radio friendly single.
And why not - the rest of the album is not going to chart well. The other single “swimming horses” is about a woman being stoned to death.

1st time hearing the Beatles version, (never been a fan).
I'm familiar with the Banshees' cover.
It's the cover version for me.
I much prefer the Siouxsie and the banshees version
By far.....The Beatles did it better!
I prefer Siouxsies cover version better. ❤
Do you even have to ask that question?? I certainly appreciate the Banshees version, but come on. It doesn't even come close to John's version.
Thank you that's exactly what i would have said if I'd paid attention in English class and learnt how to put a sentence together lucky for me i was sitting next to you and I'm copying what you said without the grammar or correct spelling so i should be able to get away with it
The Beatles for me. Paul's bass is so warm and in your face. ❤
A great bass.
You need to do Pills by Bo Diddley & The New York Dolls!
The beatles
The beatles!!
I'm shocked that you didn't know this Beatles song. Wow. Siouxsie's version is pretty good but doesn't come even close to this classic song from 'The White Album'. Thanks for the upload.
Beatles all the way.
McCartney is playing the drums on this track (as Ringo had temporarily left the band).
Good reaction 👍
a beatles masterpiece
Beatles are best
My vote goes to Siouxsie and her boys. Her version is tighter and trippier than the original.
I think it's neither
Lesley West also did a killer version of it.
Beatles get my vote
Probably Siouxsie - but then I am a mega fan
Good for the Fab Four, alright for S and the B..................
i prefer the beatles version, but not the 2018 remixed version. i prefer the original version.
I'm a huge Souxie Soux fan and always loved the Banshees, but I have to be honest and say that John, Paul, George and Ringo run away with this song.
Purely my opinion but Souxie and the Banshees did this just for chart sales.
Iirc, the band was on tour when the single was released, and didn't know how successful it was until they returned to the UK.
@@Sandy-dd4le But they still recorded it knowing that it had a chance of success.
@@Starburst_Candy isn't that the point of singles? And in fact, the entire music business?
Didn't you want them to be successful? I'm not seeing the problem here.
@@Sandy-dd4le That depends on whether you want to stick to your principals or be like Adam and the ants and sell out completely.
I was there at the punk scene when it was new and fresh, and I watched band after band sell out for the big money. Billy Idol in particular made millions from selling out. Yes that's just business, I know all about that , but sneaking in through the back door never seemed right to me. At least Adam Ant had the audacity to get out there and own it.
@@Starburst_Candy I'd say it was a lucky single, its not as if you could have predicted it from the chart positions of the previous ones, and for the most part the singles after this went back to the previous sales levels/chart positions. It didn't make them a household name or anything.
The beatles ❤
Siouxsie wiins this one.
Siouxsie for me
Siouxsie 's version for me. Better musical sound and vocals more melodious.
