Retro car review. Bring more of this for sure. Would be pretty awesome to get an old commodore or something (VE/VZ) just to see how well theyve faired after all these years, on their home turf.
Not saying that shouldn't be done but I will say that FAlcons and Commodores where average back then so don't expect them to have faired as well as the 1st gen Cayenne.
@ thats why i want to see them tested 😂😂 i’m in no way a commodore advocate - they were always, objectively, extremely average in most ways. The GM 6L80 is plagued with issues, the alloytec V6 was awful, and the build quality was spotty at best. The only good thing to come out of a commodore was an LS. falcons had the barra, but that was about it.
Agree with other commentators, reviewing older cars would be a great addition to your content. There's only so many new cars out there (the ones worth reviewing that is). Cheers
Hi Paul, well done on this one. Please do more of the old school vehicles, it would be nice to have the BMW X5 4.8is and ML 63 AMG... especially to see what's available in the market today to update them.
Pre 2004ish, a lot of passenger cars in Aus were marketed from racing. V8 supercars was in a golden time, free-to-air on channel 10. The japanese tuner scene was going bazerk, and world rally was popping off with Subaru, Mitsubishi and Toyota. SUVs flew in the face of that, which was completely alien. They were heavy and had tiny engines and had no performance.
Would absolutely love for you to go super old school and do an 80 series Landcruiser or a similar GU Patrol of that era. They were absolute heavyweights and would be great to see how they stack up with modern torture testing.
This isn't the first performance luxury SUV. Mercedes AMG ML55 was out before this. It has low range, but no difflocks. 0-100 in 5.5 secs. Mine has 200,000km on it and with exhaust and light tune it does 0-100 in under 6 secs with a roof top tent. It off-road as well as the Cayenne but without the airbag suspension warnings. This was a great review though, keep it up.
Great video! I agree with new cars being distracting / anxiety. If you must be silent in a library, why the disturbance to your perfectly fine driving? My wife's modern car isn't relaxing, I've got the car telling me how to drive. My old car I'm more relaxed yet my attention is more singular.
Great review, Have a 2006 RR Sport 4.2 SC with 70,000kms only. Any chance for reviewing RR SC , or similar. ? You are Australia's best reviewer by a very big margin. Good one Paul.
Am I the only one thinking this is just better? When they used the best materials, design and engineering to achieve a good car instead of making an average car then covering up the mistakes with electronics. Imagine if this philosophy (make it the best we can) was applied to something modern. I'm not saying the new Cayenne isn't good - just that its not the leap up this thing was over something like a 1990's Range Rover.
No its not. Its not much different to any other higher end 4x4 or luxury car. Its heavy on fuel and rubber but thats about it and you're going to struggle to find a V8 4x4 that isn't.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N must be broken. This is the first car they haven't raced it against. Hehheehe, just having a dig. I have a 5 N and love it as much as they do.
A 2003 Porsche Cayenne was definitely much better than almost every SUV product at the time, and it is still not much worse than a modern ISUZU except for the engine performance, which this old Porsche should still be better at. However, a 2025 Porsche Cayenne is not that much better than a new SUV, which provides similar features. Classic, well-established manufacturers have been pretty much caught up by their Asian rivals.
I’ve got a 2003 Cayenne S - that I bought a few years ago sight unseen at the Auctions for $6k. It’s had a few gremlins but it is a beast and sounds amazing - and drinks petrol. More fun and much much cheaper than a old Holden or Ford V8

Yes I think the same think
And a ford!

@@ubernoob103 fair enough
Queue turf war with Redriven
Redriven will always win, love carexpert, but redriven is the best
That spare tyre carrier is actually quite a rare option.

We have 2004 porsche cayenne s 4.5 very comfortable on the road very powerful the fuel needle moves as you look at it
Very nice thank you car expert please do more of these old car reviews very interesting
So interesting, please do more older cars
Great review, I've had my eye on these for a while and were a car ahead of their times.

Awesome review mate, as a first gen v8 Touareg owner, this was fun to watch
What a beast! Would love to see you review a Toyota FJ Cruiser.
How about a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI Review.. review
Deeply impressive car, great review! Still hideous though. I think James May said "it is from the depths, that thing"
More of this stuff…brilliant

First! The kings of depreciation.

I don't think it ever made it anywhere but the USA but 1992 called and said what about the Typhoon?
Should do more retro reviews 👏
Great video!

It looks so cool!

great stuff mate...
Vintages beast
Bring a review of Ford Ecosport
Any idea when you are getting your hands on the Everest tremor
In the coming weeks hopefully.
Problem is everything is so fking expensive on them to fix. EVERYTHING.
7p touareg v6 review would be great!
Love the old school review. Would have been nice to know how it would go towing though.
When are you going to review a Morgan or an all terrain pogo stick?

Did you say a PMS off button?!
Old is gold as they say. Too many electronics disorganises off road systems IMO.
Looking to buy one now.
Thank you for the video. How's the reliability going on with this beast?
God I want one of these so bad, before they just take off on the market and are no longer affordable.
@Paul Firstly, love this about older cars. Secondly , do you need me to buy u one of those hats that keep the flies away??
Maintenance price is like for a rocket...
Actually that's not necessarily the case with this generation if you're willing to do the work yourself and source parts from the US.
@@cyclemoto8744in reality most people can't do that,

What about a review on the AUDI V12 6 litre diesel …
Id would be cool to see exactly bad the H3 Hummers actually were
Did they sell them in Australia?
@daweigo6851
Yep for 2-3 years
What’s the app for acceleration please ?
This looks like a cyber man off of Doctor Who 😂
Jes,first X5 that would be cool
Please do a facelifted Range Rover L322

Performance SUV that started it all? My Merc ML55 AMG would have something to say about that 😤
73kmh in reverse 😅 is that a new record?
We had moved past video tapes and VCRs by 2003 😂
The Porsche tax would kill it for me (parts)
It's a thirsty tractor. 17L/100km is insane
Pretty reasonable, it’s not that thirsty.
come on you should do with audi Q7, GLS , X7 …all 3 cars are having off road mode ..they are for comfort but yaa you can do it with those cars ..
I have 2007 Turbo Territory stock 7 seat 160k if you want to test it.
Moar of that, pls!!!❤
13:26 - 20 YO car, I'm going to be gentle with it....NEK MINIT.....🤣🤣🤣🤣

The sticker job is horrendous. Actually, the styling of the car is horrendous
Love your work. Older cars would be great but please please drop the reversed top speed test. Utterly pointless and seems a bit juvenile really.
super!!!
$2+/km in deprecation alone.

A used car review
Pretty solid vehicles with common weak points. Better than most German trash.
Carwow copy…. Let’s get some original content. 😅
The car is only worth $15k? Polishing a turd?
