As a musician, whisky enthusiasts and occasional cigar smoker myself i really likw what you've done here . Cool guitars , very respectable whisky collection, accommodating for cigar smoking , well done . I see so many videos were people build elaborate expensive home pubs and they stock it with nothing but bottom shelf thrash liquor and you have to go outdoors if you smoke . it's ridiculous.
Thank you. I consider it a multi-function room I obviously drink whiskey and smoke cigars in there but I also record music and videos. Lately it has turned into a lounge for the dogs. I need to fix that!
And you probably have no home bar and a couple of overpriced bottles of alcohol😂 I’d rather invest in my home than a 300$ bottle of whiskey. And there is nothing “ridiculous” about smoking outside, it’s called not giving your family members cancer.
Definitely do a video on the exhaust system/ filtration system. I’m in the process of turning my basement into a cigar room and looking for a way to keep smoke smell gone. Thanks!
Wow, the wood paneling and molding really looks great. What an awesome space to enjoy great whiskey and friends. I have some okay whiskey shelves that I built several years ago, but looking at your set up makes me feel like I need to get busy.
Great Job! This is an awesome space you created for yourself! Going to definitely take some ideas from you when building mine. Thanks for the advice and video!
I lived in England for several years and sat in a lot of those old pubs, you’ve done an exceptional job with that room. You’ve helped me along in my designing a room for pipe smoking, library and reading.
I am blown away, i wish i knew how to video edit to show off my little mancave i did for whiskey and cigars, nothing as great as yours. Looks like a mancave Sinatra would drink some jack in.
Thank you for sharing, that is the ultimate man cave! Impressive. Looks like a wonderful place to enjoy a cigar, a bourbon and some good music. Thanks again for sharing.
Dalmore, Glenlivet, Macallan, Balvenie. All the popular North American market malts. You wait until you try the good stuff! Enjoy your whisky journey! Slainte. 👍🏻 Ps great whisky den!
Why can't this guy be my next door neighbor?? Hey there's a house for sale here in my neighborhood in Corpus Christi, Texas that I'm sure he'd feel right at home!! Seriously though this is a very well done renovation that someday I plan to do something similar here in what is now my home office. Watching videos like this is great for inspiration.
Absolutely do an airflow video - what do you do for make up air? That big exhaust would negatively pressure the house without! How do you recover heating/cooling losses? ERV/HRV or..? Also, with the humidor on the outside wall if there anything you have done to protect from temperature fluctuate outside? All in all a beautiful room regardless!
Excellent questions! This particular house has no return duct work. Instead, they were open registers in the transom above every door, so essentially the whole house is a return air Plenum. The system is equipped with ERV. However, it only removes moisture there is no humidifier to add moisture. The negative pressure in that room is essential to keep the cigar smoke in and exhaust it adequately. I have not noticed any impact on the heating cooling and air flow in the rest of the house. Keep in mind that I only have exhaust fan on the high-speed while I’m in there smoking a cigar. So that’s typically an hour at a time. So the maximum that it’s on the high-speed is two hours a day. I do turn it down to a much lower speed when I leave the room and I usually leave it on the low speed overnight. When I walk in that room the next morning, there is no residual odor. My major concern in that room is maintaining a stable temperature in relative humidity for the guitars. I accomplish that by adding moisture with a small room, humidifier when needed. The fluctuation in temperature in the humidifier is a legitimate concern. It appears to fluctuate from a low of 68° F to a high of 81° F. I have a sensor in there that sense is the temperature and humidity and I’m able to monitor on my cell phone. The relative humidity in the cabinet average of 74%. When I check the cigars, they are all at 70 or 71% which is where I like them. I have room to add about 1 inch of insulation behind the humidor, and I am considering doing that. I’m more concerned with the high temperature than the low. We recently had a spell of about eight days when the temperature was down in the 30s. I added a pocket warmer to the humidifier, and it brought the temperature from 55 to 70 in the humidor. So that solves that problem for the few days a year that it’s an issue. So far the maximum temperature in the cabinet has not been an issue. I will do a video specifically on the airflow, temperature, and relative humidity control. I would at this point recommend putting heat in wall humidifier on an interior partition. That was just not an option for me. Thank you very much for your interest and questions.
Cool. I once read a statement that said ‘If a man can’t smoke a cigar in his own house maybe it’s not his house’. Well done my man.
Thank God for the algorithm! That was one outstanding build salute to you my friend...
