I've had cats my whole life, and now I'm really interested in getting a bird. I've done a lot of research but I think I have more to check. I just fell in love with the idea of having a pet that is very interactive and small. Sometimes I think I shouldn't get a bird and other times I should. So I think I'll have to wait longer and see what happens
I've grown up with cats my entire life as well, so their attitudes are just second nature to me. When I got a prey animal as a pet for the first time it was some serious whiplash. I never realized how different it was having an animal who isn't predatory. It took some getting used to but now, I would literally throw myself in front of a giant hawk to protect my turtle baby!!
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience to me. I have a 5 month old Quaker parrot hen. Hopi has toilet trained herself! I noticed she would flap her wings periodically when she sat on my shoulder and felt she was trying to communicate something to me. I tried putting her in her cage when she would do it thinking she might be tired and she pooped straight away. The next time she flapped I put her in again and she pooped straight away again. I gave her a seed as a reward and she hasn't pooped on me since! Every time she flaps her wings I put her in her cage and she poops like clockwork. I am stoked! I haven't had a bird before but she seems extremely intelligent by any species standard... including human haha
I trained my little girl (green like Pumpkin?) very early, e.g. "No Bite" -- a quick learner, socialized, always friendly. IMO, the key is early (if possible) & repetitive training. If problems -- be gentle, seek help, like this video!
Completely agree! I love that they’re fast learners so repetition and also patience is definitely key to training/taming a bird! Thanks so much for your comment! ❤️
I wouldn't trade my lovebird for anything, but he is the most challenging pet I've ever owned. I have owned basically every reptile, rodent and 'average' household pet and I have never had to devote so much time into an animal as I have my little baby. He is my whole world and I couldn't imagine a life without him in it.
Good for you and good for your lovebird❤btw any species of parrots, all are very challenging, agreed!! I also would and do the best for my conure, so worth it to have my little buddy, Jake, along side me, you are awesome bird parent, I can tell!!! 👍♥️♥️♥️
Hi friends! Comment down below if you're thinking about getting your first bird and for current parrot owners, would love to know your experiences as parronts!
I have been talking about budgies for the last month to prepare for them in the school break im gonna do a bird gym(like the one in ur video) diy toys foraging and more also they are gonna have a medium cage so that when i go to my uncles house i can take them with me and play with them in the weekend!! I thought of everything food and more! ( i think i might name them kiwi and blueberry)
I'm considering getting a parrot or two, currently I'm in school so I'm unsure if they will be unhappy because I won't be with them for 7 hours. Any feedback would be appricated
I've been looking into sun conures! I probably won't be able to get one currently due to budget, schedule and space issues (plus my family has a cat), but maybe in the future. It's always good to get a headstart on this stuff
I have a green cheek conure and I love him. I never recommend parrots to other people. I emphasize how hard they are. My boy is both the most rewarding and hardest pet I've ever had.
This! We have two cats ( 1 kitten 1 adult) a king Shepherd (88Ib at 1 year old) , I had a cockatiel who passed away at 21 years , a green cheek who passed away at 10 years and currently have a jenday ( 4 years). I have had rabbits as well way back when, and fish: parrots are by far the most difficult because they just simply don’t care about what the human wants 🤣
Regarding noise: I chose Pionus parrots and African grays, because neither shrieks (naturally, anyway; but they CAN learn loud noises from other birds: we had a mockinbird that moved into the tree outside the bird room, and the gray learned all sorts of bird calls from the mockingbird. It was interesting to see them talking to each other in bird languages which weren't natural to either of them!) . Pionus are also usually more sedate, and will sit on my shoulder for many hours. Pionus can learn to talk, but have the stereotypical scratchy bird voice. Grays can duplicate just about any sound, and only need to hear something once in order to learn it. Giving them their cages near an outside window where they can talk to people passing by and other birds and animals has made them very socially active with the world. I can't speak for other bird owners; but mine seem to see their cage as their 'house', and spend about 90% of their time in or on their cage. I leave the cage doors open whenever I'm home. Oh, I also 'trained' my birds to think they can't chew furniture and trim, by having it all made of white oak in the first house we had. So to this day, 31 years later, they still don't know that they can chew up the plain pine wood furniture and trim in the house.
Great video!!! I would also add owning a parrot will change your home, for example: you can’t used most nonstick cookware or appliances, no more scented candles, air fresheners, and certain cleaning chemicals, and you always have to make sure to have doors/windows closed. But they are totally worth it!! We love our kiwi (sun)
Ive breed canaries and my mom uses non stick pans never had a problem also sometime we use air sprays still never had a problem maybe u have to burn the pan for the chemical stuff to come out and with the spray we dont spray near the bird area but it kindoff close to the room never had any issues
I can totally agree on the noisy part. When I had my yellow-sided conure he would always make noises before I went to sleep. He would usually stop after like ten minutes, but I think it was his way of letting me know he was there. I really miss him... He passed away over a week ago due to a freak accident. The room feels really empty without him... But, I have made a few changes to make sure what happened to him doesn't happen again, and I'm planning on getting another conure! I have all the toys, perches, and the large cage, so I think I could give another conure a good home. Your videos are awesome, though, keep being amazing my dude!
I'm so sorry to hear about your bird 😔 sending love your way and thank you so much for watching! I'm so excited for your new bird and the new memories you'll make together! 💕

I’m 10 years old and I agree with parents not getting a bird for there children unless them and the parent know the responsibility and I have done a BUTT load of research so I know everything I need to know but so, yes I agree 😁👍🏻
Same, i have done over 1 year of reserch, and im 11 years old, and my parents have agreed that i will get a bird if my grades improve, and MY GOSH, I was *DESPERATE* i went from 12/50 to 48/50 in maths 😅
I've owned birds when I was a kid, my mom had a ringneck up until recently and I realised how much I missed having a bird. So, I've decided on getting one. I've talked to my moms birds breeder about my options. I knew I wanted something more than my childhood cockatiels, but a little less than my moms Indian ringneck. She suggested a green cheek conure and its definitely high on my list. I'll be gathering the items I need soon!
Hi. I have a pet bird and i got her when i was just a child. Lost her trust one time (when i was 10) and slowly got it back. Im proud of past me for actually loving her. Got her a partner when she trusted me more She bit my fingers and it never startled me!😊
I adopted a 5 year old green cheek. His name is froggy. I already love him so much. At the adoption place he got attached to my sister. But she doesn't live with us. He is pretty friendly and loves head scratches
Thank you so much for making this video~ My cousin recently bought a parrot, and they were hand reared so they were super sweet, friendly, and loved everyone even when we had only met them once. I May get one for christmas~ or my birthday (feb 14th) But until then i'll just count the days!
the thing that amuses me is that I'm switching roles with my parent right now; I told them how I'd love a pet parrot and they said they'll try buying me one, but they never started researching so now here I am looking through all the websites and youtube videos possible haha- also great videos, they really helped me a lot!
Thank you! 🥰 we always take them outside of their cage to play and we put them in a carrier whenever we go outside. We don’t have a back yard to bring them outside yet but hopefully when that day comes, we’ll have an outside aviary!
Good video! Thanks for putting together this information. With how popular birds are, too many folks are making impulsive decisions to buy them and unfortunately the parrots end up paying the price :(
Thank you for your video. I think about getting a pet after a long time, I've only had dogs in my life. I thought about a parrot and your video was my first search result about having one, they are just amazing animals. After watching I have to say what a great video! I realized I can't offer a parrot a home they need, so I won't be getting one. But I sure am going to watch more bird videos from now on =)
today I got a green cheecked conure instead of a cockatiel and I love them so much! ❤❤❤ I'm so happy but. I forgot how loud they screamed! I dont mine since I have my ear plugs in most of the time but it does scare me lol! im so excited to get to know my bird better and train them and have them out! I am happy I have your videos to watch! because now I can take better care of my bird so thank you a lot!!! ❤
Hi! I have a cockatiel at home and she loves singing but thankfully my neighbours are alright with her sound. She just loves biting into everything I have, my papers and pencils and I have to keep poking her away but in the end she just wanna be beside me giving her rubs 😂 anw I enjoy your videos ♥️
I was considering getting a pet bird. I think they are really cool, loving, and beautiful creatures. But, the information that you presented made me reconsider. I wouldn’t be able to care for a bird, properly. It wouldn’t be fair for the parrot. Thank you, so much, for your UA-cam video post.
My grandmother grandmother had a parrot and after she died my grandmother and her parents ended up with it and because it was with her grandmother when she died and had such a close bond with her it would not let anyone lay down
What’s is so sad my aunt got a hamster and a dog for my cousins and one of them broke their hamster and dogs legs and the hamster eventually died 🥺 it’s so sad to see things like that happen thank you for making this very helpful video :) (as a bird owner of 4 you are my favorite YT)
SUCH GREAT QUALITY! You're so authentic and SO incredibly well informed. My bf and I are going to be birb daddies soon and I'm so nervous! With you here on UA-cam I feel much more confident! I'll enjoy watching your climb to internet stardom ♫
Fun fact : Andrew Jackson had a pet parrot and he learned how to say bad words from him because Andrew swore a lot due to his anger issues and the parrot had to be removed from his funeral because he wouldn’t stop swearing and he was making the guests uncomfortable
Hi! I'm a new sub, I love your content so far❤ I would like some advice if you please. I got a green cheek conure about a month ago and Akua (my birdo, she is 6 months now) likes to bite and try to destroy my glasses. Do your birds try to do that? She even flys and lands on my glasses as im wearing them just to truly and destroy them. And if you have any advice on how to make her stop trying to tear apart my glasses I would be very grateful. Thank you^^
Hi Irene, thank you so so much, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it so far! First off, congrats on being a green cheek owner, they are an absolute blast to have! ☺️ Akua is still very young which means it's THE perfect time to teach her that biting certain things is inappropriate! She’s also at an age where she’s going to be exploring things with her beak so she will bite anything that she finds intriguing, like glasses! When my birds were that age, they never actively flew towards my face to get at my glasses but they did, however, bite and perch on my glasses or bite the part that rests on my ears whenever they were on my shoulders. There are several different things you can try! I suggest taking her off of your glasses as soon as she flies onto them, place her down, give a stern “NO”, then turn your body away so you’re not facing her and kind of ignore her for a good 10 seconds and then interact with her again. That way, it’ll communicate to her that biting glasses=no attention and it might take a few tries or lots of tries for her to understand (be patient and consistent!) Another thing you can do if you haven’t already and before she even flies to your glasses, is to trick train her (so it doesn’t make her think “oh, if i attack her glasses, she’ll play with me!”) Trick training is great especially at a young age because it establishes a way to communicate that you can continue to build with Akua for years to come (highly recommend starting a training routine with her!) It’ll also get her brain juices flowing and tire her out before she could even think about going for your glasses. I’d also recommend giving her a variety of toys to play with so she can explore with her beak. Hope this helps! ❤️
July 31st is my birthday! And your channel is seriously AMAZING! You are one of my favourite UA-camr! I learned so much about birds and I’m hopefully getting one soon! Thank you so much for teaching me about birds! I rewatch a lot of your videos to be more educated and I love you and your birds! ❤️
8:44 Thank you for making the sound effect so LOUD! I really appreciate you thinking about your viewers hearing. R.I.P my ears ..8:44 Since I can no longer hear anything I dont have to worry about if my bird is loud or not. Thats a plus I guess ..
❤️ 💕 💗 ur birds, I have a 5 years old sun conure, knowing he loud he so spoil constantly want to be on my shoulder all day long, I give him lot of attention fly all around the house get excercise. I love all parrots 👍.
o my gosh this is your first vid and it soooooo good!!! ur a natural!! you totally deserve 10x the subs!!! ur am amazing bird owner and have great quality content for both new bird owners and people who have had birds a long time such as myself, you have changed the life of all my birds and cant wait to get another another.....(Conure)!!!!! because i totally fell in love with Pinny and Pumpkin!! and Kermit of course!! (from Elle and the birds!!
Alot of people thinking that it normal for parrots to bond with 1 person which isnt true it not normal and its a must for you to make ur parrot get along with other people as in the wild parrot interact with other parrots plus it not healthy for a parrot to get to attached to a person as this leads to further problems
This video is amazing and very good with a lot of details! I don't own any birds now because I have kids. When I was single and young I own many birds and I wish I can have one again one day! Great job 👏 You have a new sub :)
Those birds are so cute but I could just not imagine having them as pets because they would constantly wake me up early in the morning with their chirping, I'd get frustrated but they are just so darn cute 😂
To be fair...the most of the "wild" behavior of most parrots still lines up well with living with poeple...i think it's fair to say they might as well be domestic at this point. I don't understand what kind of person could get such a beutiful, inquisitive animal and just leave it alone in its cage...whats the point of getting a parrot if your not going to play with and talk to it? When I was a kid my cockatiel sparky had the run of our house...where I went,he went...wed sit at the windowsill and watch thunder and rainstorms togather...and he'd say things like "Zzzap" and make noises like crackles and boom like thunder....i miss him so.
My pineapple green cheek conure is pretty quite though she can get loud but generally pretty quite if im Giving her attention or she is doing her birde things
I know it's been a while since you did that video, but i have a small question: Are both your birds able to interact with you and your partner? You mentionned that they are most likely to bound with one person , but yours seems to interact with both you and your SO ?
I would think it depends on the bird. It is possible that if a bird is exposed to multiple people when young, there's a higher chance they'll be more friendly to others when older.
I have a parrotlet being shipped to me next week. After watching this, I can’t remember why I wanted one in the first place? Seems like there is no up-side to being a parrot parent🤷♀️ I may have to see if I can get my deposit back and return all of these toys, playpen, cage, etc😢
2) u dont need to let ur parrots out of their cage 24/7 u only need to let them out 1hr maximum however if u keep them in a aviary or huge cage then there isnt any point letting them out i only let my birds out for 1 hr in the morning and there fine
Hi im a new sub and 👁👄👁 I’m going through a bit of a hard time in my life and I am very interested in a bird and I’m in a good stable place and I really want a bird not really something for 50 years but a medium sized bird for a while and I understand a lot of things what’s the best bird for me
Once I went to the er for a broken ankle and a lady came in holding a bloody towel to her face and said her macaw had bit her, when she removed the towel a good percentage of her nose was gone. I guess she didn't give it enough attention, this taught me that birds need a lot of attention
It’s a hormonal thing Basically there’s regurgitating (vomiting) there food it’s a thing mates do it’s not a cute thing once you know what they’re actually doing (When I say ‘mates’ that’s the animal term for spouse)
Sorry just another question is it okay for them to keep itching someone told me that's just them getting rid of their old feathers is this true thank you once again Sam
First of all good morning and I would like to just thank you for the time that you took to tell us about the birds I have one that I just got to say about two months ago the same as the one that you got in your hands I named the sky because she's baby blue like a sky I got it from these people that had her in the basement but now she's in an apartment where she could see daylight a fairly big cage not huge but big guy happier I stay on top of her I tried to get her to come out and everything else I'm trying to get her used to walking around with me in the apartment but I need a glove for that cuz they do bite pretty hard but thanks once again God bless
I tought of buying a small bird becouse i dont have much spare time. She said they need a lot of attention but do they need it necessarily from a human? I mean if the bird can fly free in a room with a bird partner, would they be happy?
Ye I am gonna wait I am in college and have a hedgehog and that we boi is hard enough. Holding him 2 hours daily is hard enough when all he wants to do is run around like a mad man.
Hi I was thinking of getting a parrot I’ve been doing my research but can’t find anywhere would just be getting one a bit cruel because they would have no one to communicate to but my parents are kind of strict on a lot of pets
3 ) birds arent that expensive compared to cat and dogs there toys and cage really dont have to be expensive toys can simply be cardboard boxes and cages u can get them cheaper from 2 hand also their diet is simple its just alit bit of seeds and pellet and veg and fruit also they can eat human food but not alot its not that difficult people just make it hard for them selfs
This is so true I’m glad someone finally said something. It’s only truly expensive if you are like me and drop 200 every time you visit the parrot store. Cage is a one time payment and since parrots aren’t as large as dogs they eat considerably less. They don’t need vaccines and they don’t need to visit the vet unless sickZ I also don’t get why this misinformation is spread. My dog is far more expensive to feed than my birds
@@sophiahegedus8919 yes i had a cat and we had to buy food for it every week where as with my birds 1 bag of seed last for like 6 months cuz they only eat a little bit
Hey I'm an 11-year-old and I was wondering if I should get a bird I have a lot of free time and we have the perfect place for it, we want to get a cockatiel

She just loves biting into everything I have, my papers and pencils and I have to keep poking her away but in the end she just wanna be beside me giving her rubs 😂 anw I enjoy your videos ♥️
haha thanks so much for watching! 😊
Hi! I'm a new sub, I love your content so far❤
I would like some advice if you please.
I’ve been watching you for a few days now and I’ve learned so much!
This was very interesting thankyou for posting. I already knew they were a lot of work but seeing it put together in a good video was cool to watch
So cute!
Thank you! ❤️
really good video, change my whole mind before getting a bird for my kid
I'm thinking about a bird! Unsure of the breed, but I like the idea of small :)
o my gosh this is your first vid and it soooooo good!!! ur a natural!! you totally deserve 10x the subs!!! ur am amazing bird owner and have great quality content for both new bird owners and people who have had birds a long time such as myself, you have changed the life of all my birds and cant wait to get another another.....(Conure)!!!!! because i totally fell in love with Pinny and Pumpkin!! and Kermit of course!! (from Elle and the birds!!
This video was super informative, thanks!!!
Brilliant info
thanks for watching!
YOU GIVE SUCH GOOD ADVISE
Great video - very informative! :)
I love how pineapple bites her ear in the beginning!❤️ :3
Alot of people thinking that it normal for parrots to bond with 1 person which isnt true it not normal and its a must for you to make ur parrot get along with other people as in the wild parrot interact with other parrots plus it not healthy for a parrot to get to attached to a person as this leads to further problems
I was thinking of getting a bird. Just changed my mind. Thanks XD
I watch this after getting a parrot. Cool
This video is amazing and very good with a lot of details! I don't own any birds now because I have kids. When I was single and young I own many birds and I wish I can have one again one day!
Great job 👏 You have a new sub :)
I might be getting a bird and i just want to ask, do i keep it in the cage for the first few days?
I like everything about gcc except their sound
I might go with cockatiel
I think it's important to give any pet bird proper attention , and pay attention to their food and water supply , and be dedicated❗😘
Those birds are so cute but I could just not imagine having them as pets because they would constantly wake me up early in the morning with their chirping,
I'd get frustrated but they are just so darn cute 😂
amazing video... id watch a whole series on other pet animals as well
Which is that dark conure green cheak or blue conure
It’s a turquoise green cheek conure, it’s a kind of morph
This skin ripping from the beginning of the video is it a conure thing because my sun conure keep doing it
My pineapple green cheek conure is pretty quite though she can get loud but generally pretty quite if im Giving her attention or she is doing her birde things
Me today: I want a pet Parrot!
Me after this video: Absolutely NOT
Wow! You're almost to 400 subs! your channel is growing so fast . a few days ago you only had like 360 or 370 but now you have a lot more !
haha I know! I can't believe it!
@@FlyingFids I'm sure one day you'll have 1000 subs
@@buddythebird244, fast forward 7 months: 29,800 subs! 🤩😁
Ur birds are too beautiful
Glad i found this site. No birds for me, thanks.
What if your parrot likes her cage but you take the top of her cage so she can come out and what if she doesn't really sqock just a little bit
Another great video, can you do one on safe flowers for parrots and parakeets, and ones to avoid 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for the cold hard TRUTH 🙌
Hi i hope to see you having new parrot vlogs again
Hi im a new sub and 👁👄👁
I’m going through a bit of a hard time in my life and I am very interested in a bird and I’m in a good stable place and I really want a bird not really something for 50 years but a medium sized bird for a while and I understand a lot of things what’s the best bird for me
I'm using this video for my son so he can do research so we know how to take care of a pet parrot
Are these the same as Parrotletts? Great content btw!
Once I went to the er for a broken ankle and a lady came in holding a bloody towel to her face and said her macaw had bit her, when she removed the towel a good percentage of her nose was gone. I guess she didn't give it enough attention, this taught me that birds need a lot of attention
I really like your videos! Greetings from The Netherlands. (I have two umbrella cockatoos and they don't make good pets at all, lol.)
Um 10 yes!
*i'm
I have two birds, the only issue I have is their droppings everywhere, I am a person a bit crazy about cleanness...
Me:only watching this when I got the parrot already
How much are the turquoise green cheek conures?
What does it mean when they touch beaks and bob their heads at the same time??😂found that adorable and funny
I'm pretty sure they're feeding eachother :T
It’s a hormonal thing
Basically there’s regurgitating (vomiting) there food it’s a thing mates do it’s not a cute thing once you know what they’re actually doing
(When I say ‘mates’ that’s the animal term for spouse)
Sorry just another question is it okay for them to keep itching someone told me that's just them getting rid of their old feathers is this true thank you once again Sam
God forbid something happens to me I’ll teach my son how to take care of them 😊
What would be the best website or best place to get one me and my wife want one but we don’t know any place near us that sells them or breeds them
First of all good morning and I would like to just thank you for the time that you took to tell us about the birds I have one that I just got to say about two months ago the same as the one that you got in your hands I named the sky because she's baby blue like a sky I got it from these people that had her in the basement but now she's in an apartment where she could see daylight a fairly big cage not huge but big guy happier I stay on top of her I tried to get her to come out and everything else I'm trying to get her used to walking around with me in the apartment but I need a glove for that cuz they do bite pretty hard but thanks once again God bless
My gramps have a lil parrot that he addore i remember he always take of, the parrot even came with other parrots
very cute birb
I tought of buying a small bird becouse i dont have much spare time. She said they need a lot of attention but do they need it necessarily from a human? I mean if the bird can fly free in a room with a bird partner, would they be happy?
Ye I am gonna wait I am in college and have a hedgehog and that we boi is hard enough. Holding him 2 hours daily is hard enough when all he wants to do is run around like a mad man.
Which is the best treat for green chick conjures that you hsve
What about reptiles??? I have a gecko, and I am going to get a snake *snake( ball python )*
Hi I was thinking of getting a parrot I’ve been doing my research but can’t find anywhere would just be getting one a bit cruel because they would have no one to communicate to but my parents are kind of strict on a lot of pets
what is the blue parrot u have I know its a conure but what type?
The lighter one is a pinnacle green cheek conure and the darker one is a turquoise green cheek conure
How do you make your cockatiels beak back to pink cuz now its grey
Hey I'm an 11-year-old and I was wondering if I should get a bird I have a lot of free time and we have the perfect place for it, we want to get a cockatiel
Do you cover their cage at night?
WE HAD ONE I MISS HIM
Condolences on your loss.
Just subscribed
how big is your conure's cage?
I have two cages that are roughly the same size, one is slightly bigger! 20in x 23in x 32in and 22in x 24in x 33in
@@FlyingFids cool. I have a cage that is a 26x13x18 in do you think we should get a larger cage for my bird after we are done with quarentine?
Right now my bird is out of the cage for the whole entire day
