I love this song and I love Feliciano but never heard this recording. I sat there transfixed during the film listening to this. I lived in LA as a young kid at this time and I remember how afraid my mother was during all of this. The movie was so nostalgic for me. The Honey West poster at the beginning of the film just made me smile.
Saw him at Ohio University in 1968. Zeplin opened for him and literally everyone left when Zeplin was done. There must have been about a hundred of us who stayed. Needless to say it was a very intimate show. Absolutely amazing.
In November of 1970 I had just come back home to SoCal from a Tour of Duty in Vietnam and discovered that Jose Feliciano had opened up a club ("Feliciano's") down in Newport Beach, California and was performing there on a regular basis. During 1971, and into 1972, I took several dates there, to dance and enjoy Jose's performances, and it was just wonderful music. In all, I probably saw him a couple dozen times and never ever tired of his music. What a magnificent performer he was.
he is so famous here in Latin America, he sings a lot of great lyrics and he is a guittar GOD. He´s a living leyend, and I´m so proud that people still like his songs. but how anybody can´t listen to that orgasmic melody? greetings from America latina
My uncle introduced me to this song, and in turn Jose years ago. I’ve always loved this version, and the way he loves his craft. SO happy a big movie like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood brought people here who hadn’t heard this version, and this great man. Thanks Tarantino!
Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and the great Jose Feliciano... All blind. All great musicians, All legendary... .. I can see 20 / 20 ...Can't play shit... . Damn!
Awesome interpretation of a classic song! I especially love the unison scat singing and guitar improv at the tail end a la George Benson. Truly inspired!
a living legend....one of those cats that can sing the shoes off of anybody, anywhere, anytime. Put the microphone in his hand and get the Hell out of the way.
As a kid in the late 60’s I use to hear my dad playing Feliciano on the record player, even though I was young I was still drawn to his beautiful tone-singing and playing guitar, years later when my dad passed I inherited his vinyl and found that very record, happy to say it was still in good condition and honestly I play it at least a couple times a month…20 years ago I got to see Jose live at The Vault in Long Beach and no BS he was excellent, thank you Jose for many years of memories and listening pleasure 👏🏽🙏🏾
Felix I'm so happy that you have found good music. Thank you for your remarks and by the way, I turned 70 2 days ago. It proves that great music never is too old or too young.
I saw Jose perform live in Mumbai, India. Have to admit, I didn't know who he was before that but man his voice transformed me that night. He covered a song by the Beatles that night and it was sublime.
Thank You Jose Feliciana for this Most Moving Rendition of our beloved California Dreaming....I was 4 years old when this version came out...this was my first exposure to both the song and man. Only to find out way later that the Mamas and the Papas had already done the song first. I am so thankful to my oldest sibling who played All the great 60's music on the family turntable...of course the music was played loudly and can be heard through out the house...I didn't have "Barney" to sing to me or to sing with...instead I had All the Great Songs and Singers to Listen to and Thoroughly Enjoy My innocent Childhood
That's not a backing track..... it's his lyrics prompter dude back stage... giving him cues to the next lines that he's not sure about. It's most obvious at 18 seconds... you can hear the other guy back stage. Obviously no visual cues for Jose.... so they have to be auditory cues. It makes it even more impressive. It's amazing that he can do that... make it so powerful... even with the prompter dude in his ear back stage. Incredible. Truly.
God, this is great.. The blind guys always seems to have such great soul..Jose, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Ronnie Milsap..I think they see beyond this world into something better..
I miss the days of variety shows and revues where artists performed/borrowed/covered each other's songs regularly and without fear of lawsuits. Back then, it seemed that folks weren't "threatened" by what flair somone else would add to their song. Jose Feliciano was special in that he put in his own rendition flavored with spanish soul and what "extra" he could convey through a deeper musical ability gleaned from his other senses having been developed far greater than a sighted individual.
True - he turn a song upside down but without screwing the original melody making it a completetly new song which is his own and you have the feeling he is singing about something deeply personal
Drake, thanks alerting me to this in the film! Hopefully the present generation will appreciate this singer....the tuneless pap of the present music is soulless and boring.....this is the music we made love to, in the 60’s and 70’s!!!👍🏼

My favorite performances have always been in seeing a man, or band, unplugged just acoustics, voice & emotion.
Jose Feliciano is top 10.
I saw him when I was very young in The Swap Shop ( an in door flea market) in FL and then in Magic City Casino( old Flagler dog track). Amazing. !!
kinda odd for people to leave before the main act performed..

Such an underrated artist

Not where he comes from...
underrated?! He's renowned the world over!
In the US AND ENGLISH MARKET YES, but in Latin America he's very well known everywhere here
He wasn't. He was very popular in the 70's not only in US, also in Latin America where he was considered an idol.
Jose feliciano es lo mejor.
A new dutch band, Carola Smit Get Back Live, covered this song also. This band plays only '60/'70's music Look them up, they are great!!

He has one of the most touching voices of all times -- gets through right to my soul. A master of soulfulness !!
