Yeah the tineline always seemed kinda forced to me in the sense that some people asked for it so much that nintendo gave us one but i dont think and most of the games dont seem as if a lot of consideration was given to the timeline during developpement when the reference other games most of the time its vague and open to interpretation
Agreed, timeline shenanigans are an interesting side quest, and i always finish all the side quests, but the Main Quest is the important part. Give me a fun game with a good story and i will think about the timeline later
As an elder Millennial, I used to be more invested in the timeline in the 90's and early 2000's, as there were fewer than half a dozen Zelda games in existence, and several of them hinted at or referenced each other already. There was lots of environmental lore to be gleaned from talking to NPCs and the gossip stones. The concept of time travel and the creation of loops and alternate realities was fresh in the zeitgeist with media examples to pull from. In those days (roughly 1998/OoT era until about 2010/SS era), I was of the age to begin using the nascent "world wide web" to investigate and discuss the timeline. Eventually as more games came out, things became more convoluted and complex, with Nintendo attempting to keep a balance between "it's a legend, let it be vague" and "but there's clear throughlines, please explain!" Now as a 40 year old, I Feel less strongly about figuring out the timeline, and more interested in seeing some under-explored existing lore get a better treatment. I do prefer to explore current lore and concepts, rather than making too many more.
What I’d like to point out, and I think this is part of why such a big world for a 2D Zelda is so impressive, is the fact that this isn’t just the first 2D Zelda since ALBW… This is the first 2D Zelda made for a home console since A Link to the Past-that’s 33 years. (Yes, there’s FSA, but that’s a totally different type of game anyway.) Every 2D Zelda since then has been designed for handheld play: Less powerful systems, shorter burst gameplay conducive to playing on the go, stuff like that. This is the first time a large, adventure-focused 2D Zelda has had the chance to take advantage of being made for a home console in a LONG time. That’s super exciting.
The Legend of Zelda title format used by Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and now Echoes of Wisdom was also used by the Link's Awakening remake.
I think he's talking about the game world being bigger than most 2D Zelda games. Zelda actually looks really small in the overworld compared to how Link looked in the similar looking world of A Link Between Worlds.
In regard to the logo similarities and this being a followup to the Wilds Era, another Zelda UA-camr (I believe it was Zeltik) who played the game said that Echoes of Wisdom felt like the BOTW of 2D Zelda games. As someone who prefers 3D Zelda, that statement hypes me up. Can't wait to play this game.
I’ve actually theorised a lot about how this game will fit into the timeline and think that it would probably have something to do with where the time lines “merge” back into one. So probably wayyyy before botw. So botw has races that should technically not be alive at one (zoras and rito as rito ARE evolved zora). Echoes of wisdom also has races that we haven’t seen together at the same time (such as the evil zora and good zora). Some of these races were not spear in one of the three timelines as well. I really hope I am right bc it would be really cool to fill in that part of the time line and would link botw more to the past games. To me that would be the cleanest and most comfortable fit. Can’t wait to play!
I'm so glad it has Hero mode, as much as I like TotK, and to me it is a bit better BotW, but I missed Master Mode. I'm going to start doing that out of the gate, when it's available.

I will say originally I thought oh it's just Tears of the kingdom but top down I don't care about this at all. But in a shocking twist the more information surrounding Echoes of Wisdom comes out the more I actually get excited! Like I love how many older elements and characters that Nintendo is putting the elements of old and new Zelda that I wanted in Tears of The Kingdom like the deku scrubs and the more basic fish people version of the Zora thanks for reading my comment
There's something in my gut telling me that they're showing us all these goods, only because they're hiding something. They did it with the Depths, what if there's a sky section in this one? Or something like that. It could really be anything at this point. 😂
@hydra2105 that's an interesting thing to keep hidden to me? They showed off all the other races, why would they keep the Rito a secret? I thought since the inclusion of both Zoras, they may just not be in this game.... but then we'd all miss out on Chibi Rito. We don't want that!

I've been wondering how large it is now that I've seen the map. Part of me is worried it may not have much content but then I remember: - a lot may be packed into region - we already have plenty of towns & tribes - there's also the still world Also it seems nintendo is saving the rito as a surprise, as I'm pretty sure the northeast is hebra mountain & theyre living up there
It'd be something to compete with the size implied by the scale of everything on AoL's world map. I mean, that tiny blob of land south of the mountains on the western continent is clearly meant to represent the entirety of LoZ's map. And you can view the LoZ and LttP maps as having a slight offset from each other / a fair amount of overlap with each other so they're basically the same region. LoZ and LttP were comparable to each other in scope and size. If AoL could've been made today instead they probably would do it in a way that doesn't make that mountain range take up 50% of the area of that western continent, but still... You can recognize an area we're familiar with within that map and it's seen as taking up only a small fraction of one continent while the entire map features two continents plus a large island. And on that western continent there was a solid ridge of mountains along the entire western edge of the map blocking us from seeing who knows how much extra land farther west on that continent (kinda like the impossible cliff running most of the way along BotW's western and northern edges, actually). I think AoL is still technically the largest map they've ever had in the series, actually. It's massively lacking in detail, for sure. But BotW's map only shows us one continent.
Um.... Zelda A Link to the Past wasn't necessarily a large world and it was a game that you previously mentioned and in case you forgot.... that game had fast travel when you went up to those wind things that bird was able to fly you to different areas on the map... A Link Between Worlds has the broomstick that fast travels you around.. In A Link to the Past you could also in a sense fast travel from one certain area to another by going through those Zora whirlpools I know there's a few other examples I just can't think of them right now
Link's Awakening also had fast travel with the teleporters and the 2nd song on the ocarina. Minish cap also had fast travel similar to A Link to the past. And the Oracle games had the Gale Seeds.
Too true and having the Link's Awakening look. And that took place on an island, it has a feel-good look however felt limited in small space. What a combo. [edit] as Timeline goes, up until release, It's in the Link's Awakening era. As far as the time split my theory is, this is the point of merging times that causes the flood in Hyrule. Just guessing.
I think that the most noticable thing to me about this version of Hyrule is that Link already had his own adventure just prior to the Game with the Opening being the Final Boss and Dungeon of Link's Adventure. So what I am curious about is if Link already unlocked and explored all of Hyrule's Dungeons then will the Still World be used to change the Layout of said Dungeons if Zelda has to explore them to? After all, Usually the point of exploring a Dungeon is to clense it of Evil and if the the Dungeons fell AGAIN when the Rifts opened then Zelda would need to cleanse them herself.
This game is incredibly big, 12 hours straight and only thru 2 dungeons. It's going to be a challenge for anyone who goes in completely blind and hasn't watched any content about said game. The mechanics are novel and quite frankly it's probably going to end up being one of my favorite Zelda games ever.
It's decently big, though. LttP isn't *small* per se, so making it bigger is decently significant. Not saying it'll be huge, but I don't think it'll be disappointingly small.
This the first new home console 2d Zelda single player game since link to the past. All the other games were on handheld devices or were the multiplayer 4 swords games. S
I love this game It has a small learning curve due to well... Zelda! However It reminds me very much of an homage to LTTP (Eastern Ruins, for example)💯 The "missing" Link isn't missed all that much as you progress through the game The world is very explorative as you collect echoes and experiment in various ways An open world 2.5D Zelda is a very cool concept And the lore is pretty interesting You actually hear the "Legend of Link"😂💯
I'm just glad that we're finally getting a Zelda game where we get to play as Zelda. It's no breath of the wild but it's better then nothing. Hopefully one day we get an open world Zelda game, like botw, where we play Zelda.
I still feel this game came out of the beta botw witch was a 2d Demo and there are things only work in 2d so there were many assets not used or useable for 3d + the awakening Remake gave a engine 🤔 but looking forward playing it🤩

Gamedev here. This game, and others like it, aren't "top down". They are what's called "3/4 perspective". "Top down" is like Hotline Miami where you can only see the tops of the characters heads. This is a very, very commonly misused term :(
Professional game dev here that has 8 years of industry experience. Every studio I’ve worked at would have no problem calling a game like this a top down game. The project I’m currently on is actually a very similar camera angle and we refer to it as a top down game.
My bet is this game takes place at the end of the downfall timeline after lesser hyrule rebuilds and expands, reclaiming all the lost land of greater hyrule southwest of Death Mountain.
I have been thinking the same thing. I think the best comparison for this game would likely be Link Between Worlds. However, this game looks to be bigger. However, didn't Link To The Past and Link Between Worlds have fast travel? This world looks bigger, plus it has the still world. I'm kinda thinking that the still world is either something that will progressively be filled in... or it could be a sort of alternate plane between worlds. I expect that it will either be it's own large world or that there will be another world of some kind... plus all of the dungeons. I also think that this will likely have a lot of caves and such to explore like Tears of the Kingdom. To be clear, I don't expect it to be anywhere near as big as TOTK, but it should be at least the size of Link Between Worlds or even bigger.
@@wat-o-melon I remember the things the minish use to actively interact with hylians is only active once every 100 years. So maybe the things aren't open. Also I may be wrong but I think that could be a good lore reason to not include them.

When you started talking about the waypoints you accidentally said Link, not Zelda. I'm assuming thats a mental typo because normally you have to talk about link. Also some things just look bigger than they do in A Link Between Worlds did. They have very similar maps from what I see in the trailers but Zelda looks so much smaller in comparison.
@@lumindoesvideos we’ve seen a few different shots of the map apparently zoomed out and have previewed every region. assuming each region gets a fast travel point, that means 5-6 at most. you shouldn’t just say things without any basis. i understand you want the game to be big but realistically it won’t be and setting yourself up for disappointment is only going to frustrate you when it comes out.
I'm just now noticing the opening scene is looking at a LttP layout of Hyrule. At least the Lake Hylia, Castle, and Eastern Palace region. Maybe it's an expanded version of the LttP Hyrule?
Terms of timeline placement. I think its downfall. My reasoning being Ganon and his design. As to where its placed. Id like the idea of it being the Hyrule we see in the Oracle games. Mainly because its one we havent actually seen other than the still images we see.
I think it's a little foolish to care about lore or the timeline after TotK demonstrated that Nintendo clearly doesn't. At this point let's just hope this game is fun and doesn't have too much story or terrible writing.

I don't know why people are focusing so hard on fast travel in the game meaning it's huge. We can see the map is big, I think the thing to talk about is how quickly we unlock fast travel. Fast travel in top down Zelda games isn't anything new. It was in the first game, ALttP, ALBW, OoS, OoA and LA.
Adding the name of the series to the video title is likely an algorithm boost. Putting it at the end in parentheses reduces clutter and makes the title more readable.

Many older top down Zeldas did have a fast travel element. The earliest I can think of is A Link to the Past.

Good thing we already know it's decently expanded from LttP.
The save and reload system in the game was also a pritty good fast travel system.
Link's Awakening also had fast travel with the teleporters and the 2nd song on the ocarina. Minish cap also had fast travel similar to A Link to the past. And the Oracle games had the Gale Seeds.
Too true and having the Link's Awakening look. And that took place on an island, it has a feel-good look however felt limited in small space. What a combo. [edit] as Timeline goes, up until release, It's in the Link's Awakening era. As far as the time split my theory is, this is the point of merging times that causes the flood in Hyrule. Just guessing.
I have yet to play TOTK but want to play this more. BOTW was great and i am sure TOTK is too but this is the return to form i have been waiting for.

Finally! A game where we get to see what the Princess of Hyrule, Link, has been doing while Zelda was out having all his grand adventures!
I’d love a Link to Past and Between Worlds in this same art style!
In Hindsight, it kind of makes sense Zelda's first proper Adventure is a 2D One like Super Princess Peach was for Princess Peach.
I think that the most noticable thing to me about this version of Hyrule is that Link already had his own adventure just prior to the Game with the Opening being the Final Boss and Dungeon of Link's Adventure. So what I am curious about is if Link already unlocked and explored all of Hyrule's Dungeons then will the Still World be used to change the Layout of said Dungeons if Zelda has to explore them to? After all, Usually the point of exploring a Dungeon is to clense it of Evil and if the the Dungeons fell AGAIN when the Rifts opened then Zelda would need to cleanse them herself.
I wanted a Zelda game with a different character for sooo long, maybe in the future could play a Zelda with a hero that have the triforce of power

This game is incredibly big, 12 hours straight and only thru 2 dungeons. It's going to be a challenge for anyone who goes in completely blind and hasn't watched any content about said game. The mechanics are novel and quite frankly it's probably going to end up being one of my favorite Zelda games ever.

It's decently big, though. LttP isn't *small* per se, so making it bigger is decently significant.
Not saying it'll be huge, but I don't think it'll be disappointingly small.

I still feel this game came out of the beta botw witch was a 2d Demo and there are things only work in 2d so there were many assets not used or useable for 3d + the awakening Remake gave a engine 🤔 but looking forward playing it🤩

Gamedev here. This game, and others like it, aren't "top down". They are what's called "3/4 perspective". "Top down" is like Hotline Miami where you can only see the tops of the characters heads. This is a very, very commonly misused term :(

Professional game dev here that has 8 years of industry experience. Every studio I’ve worked at would have no problem calling a game like this a top down game. The project I’m currently on is actually a very similar camera angle and we refer to it as a top down game.

My bet is this game takes place at the end of the downfall timeline after lesser hyrule rebuilds and expands, reclaiming all the lost land of greater hyrule southwest of Death Mountain.
I have been thinking the same thing. I think the best comparison for this game would likely be Link Between Worlds. However, this game looks to be bigger. However, didn't Link To The Past and Link Between Worlds have fast travel? This world looks bigger, plus it has the still world. I'm kinda thinking that the still world is either something that will progressively be filled in... or it could be a sort of alternate plane between worlds. I expect that it will either be it's own large world or that there will be another world of some kind... plus all of the dungeons. I also think that this will likely have a lot of caves and such to explore like Tears of the Kingdom. To be clear, I don't expect it to be anywhere near as big as TOTK, but it should be at least the size of Link Between Worlds or even bigger.

@@wat-o-melon I remember the things the minish use to actively interact with hylians is only active once every 100 years. So maybe the things aren't open. Also I may be wrong but I think that could be a good lore reason to not include them.

When you started talking about the waypoints you accidentally said Link, not Zelda. I'm assuming thats a mental typo because normally you have to talk about link.
Also some things just look bigger than they do in A Link Between Worlds did. They have very similar maps from what I see in the trailers but Zelda looks so much smaller in comparison.

@@lumindoesvideos we’ve seen a few different shots of the map apparently zoomed out and have previewed every region. assuming each region gets a fast travel point, that means 5-6 at most. you shouldn’t just say things without any basis. i understand you want the game to be big but realistically it won’t be and setting yourself up for disappointment is only going to frustrate you when it comes out.

Terms of timeline placement. I think its downfall. My reasoning being Ganon and his design. As to where its placed. Id like the idea of it being the Hyrule we see in the Oracle games. Mainly because its one we havent actually seen other than the still images we see.

I think it's a little foolish to care about lore or the timeline after TotK demonstrated that Nintendo clearly doesn't. At this point let's just hope this game is fun and doesn't have too much story or terrible writing.

Fast travel in top down Zelda games isn't anything new. It was in the first game, ALttP, ALBW, OoS, OoA and LA.
