  • Using Savate Chassé bas (side kick) to control an opponent and score points.
    Use the Chassé Lateral Savate kick like a boxer's jab: keep the opponent off-balance, control the distance, stop them advancing.
    Make sure you keep front heel on the attack line before, during, and after an attack. Chamber (prepare) the kick on the same line.

    Hi, thanks for your videos. Has helped to keep savate in my mind during the pandemic. Luckily the situation is getting better. Helsinki is indeed a great place for savate, I practice in the Helsinki Konala savate gym here in Finland.

    There's this fight in youtube where W. Sylla does this very well, winning the fight with a chassé that isn't fully chambered

    • @CMLew
      @CMLew 3 роки тому

      @@LondonSavate I remember a few bait and counter attempts one of which was trying to leave my front leg out as an target and then countering when the opponent tried to fouette that leg.
      Do you think I could use this to raise my leg out of target then land a chasse?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  3 роки тому

      @@CMLew if you could get the timing, yes. What would happen if you baited, then when they attack, quickly stop it with the (aligned) chassé to start your counter?

    That’s an excellent way to approach it. I especially like the idea of intercepting them as they attack - stopping and frustrating them while keeping you on range for your follow ups.
    Question. How do you find the inline stance against sweeping techniques from your opponent or do you mix your stances as you box to make it hard for them to spot the opportunity?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  3 роки тому +1

      Good observation. You have to be watchful and a stance optimised for one thing - e.g. chassé lateral - will have a weakness somewhere else, it all depends on the opponent. I sometime use this trick to mix it up ua-cam.com/video/f7AJRya4dlo/v-deo.html

    Beautiful Kick. I practise Jeet Kune Do on this side of the pond, and have really fallen in love with Savate. I've been a Karate guy for years, and have adapted to this style kick vs. the heaviness of the rear leg Karate / Muay Thai style. Do you folks deal with knee injuries often? Thanks for a very nice video, and the inspiration!

    • @LondonSavate

      Glad to hear you can adapt this for your own style. Do you mean to ask about knee injuries sustained from blows or from executing techniques and training?

      Hi. Great video! This will help my own methods. I actually train and use the chassé lateral for MMA sparring and self-defence, and it is a key technique for me. Thanks!

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  3 роки тому +1

      @@derekcrankshaft4528 that's great. Yes, I can see how this applies to MMA: get the heel on the attacking line and you have your opponent covered. Let me know how it goes.

    • @MP-yr4pn
      @MP-yr4pn 3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the video James. I like to use chassé in a similar way and it has a lot of advantages such as the ones you showed. However, if I stick to much to this position I develop a false sense of security and 'mental lezyness' becoming predictable and vulnerable, especially to quick diagonal side steps towards my left side.

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  3 роки тому

      @@MP-yr4pn yes, that's an important point. This trick can make you negative, always acting as the disrupter. One must stay active and inventive as well to avoid creative responses. Great observation!

    Could this approach be used for Joe Lewis-esque Chasse Median/Figure knockouts? I know he wasn't a savateur, but that guy could really throw a side kick....

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  3 роки тому

      I don't see why not. You can simply adjust the height to suit the strategy. You see me checking my opponent to mid height in these clips. If you know your line, you can control the opponent and exploit the openings. Thanks for the question. Hope I've understood!

  • @JohnJohnson-pq4qz

    I have been practicing this and other Chasse/side kick variations. Would you say this is mechanically and tactically the same idea as what many Tae Kwon Do people call a "cut kick"? Not the Thai boxing idea of a cut kick (when they kick out the supporting leg) but they describe it as a 'sparring side kick" with a lower chamber and heel pointing at the opponent?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  11 місяців тому +1

      I am not familiar enough with TKD 'cut kick' to be able to say. Maybe others with experience in both arts can chip in.
