Sakan Lam great video mate 👍,this is my favourite kick stops aggressive fighters great, and sets up cross after,if can mix this sidekick to body knee and face very hard to stop,
Happy that you are well versed in this tool for your arsenal! It is one of my favorite kicks by far... and made that much better with shoes on! Thanks so much for the support, my friend!
Sakan Lam yes it is a great weapon in Muay Thai as they are not used to seeing sidekicks much, when in a side stance so much quicker and easy to do,but unfortunately not allowed to use it in sport karate lol,yes always loved savate specially as bruce lee used lot there techniques, but no classes around near me as it’s not one most popular martial arts, but I love fighting in shoes never allowed to use them,
You only see the really creative fighters like Somrak and Samart use a variation of it which is slightly angled, using the ball of the foot. Takes guts to step outside of the box, but it works wonders if you fight cookie cutter dudes.
Sakan Lam yes samart and saenchai my favourites they are little bit different from normal Muay Thai based fighters,I started in Muay Thai but because as beginner I was scared being hit I was always running away fighting on the counter ended up in side stance,so my coach advised me to take up sport karate the wonderboy MVP Raymond Daniels style fighting,so now I mix stances southpaw side stance and orthodox traditional Thai style, and do love bits savate that I know,
Ever since I began training in Jun Fan/JKD i’ve been getting more curious about the savate influence. I really dig the nimble footwork and honestly it has become my favorite style of kickboxing.
Honestly I respect all martial arts for all of them teaches you a new and deeper understanding of strikes takedowns throws submissions ect. But last but not least pankration has eye gowjing head nuts grone shots all deadly street leathel technique
I would like to know a history on how Savate came to be. I've heard it's at least partially based on the idea of fencing, but I really don't know any of the history. I find it extremely interesting.
Supposedly it originated in the port city of Marseille. The sailors had learned / developed it from their travels and used it as a self-defense system on the boats and in the streets of the the city. The original style has the practitioner reaching up and behind them as if grabbing on to the rigging of the ship for balance. This would also translate to using the walls of the alleys for balance when kicking as well.
Hello very good video . Just for fight with KO , for the entry combo , its better to do : right punch, then left punch because combo will be more powerful even if u lose a little speed
Love the video but I have a quick question. While doing research, I’ve gotten conflicting advice on whether the lead leg/hand should be in the front or back. Advice?
Thank you for the kind words. The power of the fouette comes from the whip and snap of the leg and hip. Proper Savate shoes have a reinforced rubber sole to protect the toes!
Really depends on the angle of the kick. Heavy bags aren't so forgiving for toe kicks, even with shoes on. Better to hit with the instep. Also you can practice on a BOB doll, just make sure the toes are pulled back.
@@SakanLam I did a fouette kick with both savate shoes and wrestling shoes to the side knee. (hurt me more than opponent) I also did a fouette to a sparring partner in France to the liver with new Savate shoes - and exact opposite responce. Ididn’t intend harm - shoes cause the toe to curve inwards. Is it perhaps to use the toe on soft targets and the instep on hard targets. I have an ITF TKD background.
@Sakan Lam Savate is one of my favorite martial arts and as a practitioner of Karate, watching and studying the videos of the late Professor Salem Assli have helped me develop my kicks.
@@SakanLam It's pretty much like the "Wing Chun, JKD," side thrust kick---But with a VIGOROUS Hip-thrust that adds Power to it. But there's a little 'Trick' to it, using the oppo- site foot, that promotes REAL quickness. I discovered it Myself years ago.
Yeah Thai people generally have a very unsophisticated understanding of the martial arts. However, that is changing with the growing popularity of MMA.
You are so wrong. First, the person you’re talking about was noble and a brilliant fencing master. He died in 1799. Savate started in ports like Marseille by sailors decades later. And if you consider Savate as french boxing, it was codified after 1870… Feel free to fact check me ! 😁
I like the kicks to the knees. I've been practicing the chasse bas at home.. but those round house kicks r weak af. I Kno different styles teach it differently but roundhouse kicks were meant to be thrown like how muy Thai fighters do. Complete power/finishing move . Snapp someone with the tip of ur shoe isn't going to cut in bar fight. U need to crack ribs if ur gonna throw a roundhouse
I disagree. One of my instructors talked about when the Inosanto Academy first invited Savate fighters and coaches to sparring with the team (JKD and Muay Thai was the main style) and he said people were dropping like flies due to the fouette with the tip of the shoe. Same with my other instructor, Sifu John Koeshall, who was a doorman in Texas for many years. His finishing move was a round kick with the tip of his cowboy boot. Said it would work without fail. There are too many recorded examples as proof that this round kick with the tip of the shoe works. If you don't believe me check out Lonely Dog or Giga Chikadze. Or just take a full blown fouette to the ribs with a shoe. Trust me, we are going light for demonstration purposes. You'll never want to take this kick again in your life.
A scientist! Someone willing to find knowledge through experimentation is truly a pioneer! Ajay, so, you are willing to trade your "full power" Muay Thai round kick to any part of my body for my "weak af" Taekwondo or karate round kick to the corresponding part of your body, correct? This is great! I cannot wait to meet and test your hypothesis!
It depends upon who is performing the Kick. Approximately 90% of Savate videos on UA-cam display Telegraphed movements like this. Combat Savat is actually Very Useful, but I kinda like that fact that most people think it sucks. When I perform a Side Kick, it is telegraphed as little as possible. I've seen a few Jeet Kune Do videos that show more streamlined Savat techniques. But many people think of that as only being JKD. Oh well..

I have just started Savate, perfect timing!
:)
Trust me, you're gonna love it!!
Combat Savat is much better for Self Defense than Sport Savate. Their uniforms look nice, but some of their attacks are slow and telegraphed.
Every fight style has its own way of striking. Which one is best? The one you are comfortable with. The one that is most natural to you.

If i kick a heavy bag with a toe kick with Savete shoes - it hurts. Perhaps a light snapping kick?

I presume that Savate would be thought of as a Joke in Thailand? Also, modern Savat is more streamlined than that :)
Yeah Thai people generally have a very unsophisticated understanding of the martial arts. However, that is changing with the growing popularity of MMA.
No different, than when people look at a fencing sword and think it is a joke compared to using a broad sword. It is one dimensional thinking.
Savate is a style made by a Creole person named chavalier de st Georges the black Mozart la Vega. He made zapato cognate in Spain and Portugal!!
