    Lovely to see you back. You helped transform my hair and I get so many compliments now. I’ve been doing CG for almost a year now and the curl clumps form on their own so I never spend much time on styling. My hair also retains moisture very easily so I don’t need much product. I stuck to it like you said even though it looked hideous in the initial few months haha. Now people ask me if I have got a perm!

      You know what Karunya, over the last few months I've been thinking a lot about the meaning of life and my purpose here on UA-cam. It's easy to write it off as a tool of vanity.
      Why do I make beauty and hair videos? Is it vapid and superficial?
      Then I see a comment like this and it helps me to put my thoughts in perspective. My purpose here on UA-cam is much more than just flexing my hair. It's to help and encourage. Thank you for your comment. It gave me so much peace and joy. I love to hear it! I bet your hair is gorgeous!
      Keep going! So many amazing things to come!

      @@MichelleManuel it’s not vain at all. You have no idea the extent to which you’re changing lives, so I’ll share my story.
      I had a VERY difficult relationship with my mother since as far back as I can remember (I am now not in contact with her, thank god). Throughout my childhood she was abusive to me and neglectful of my needs. She regretted having me and made sure that I was reminded of that at all times. She was controlling, manipulative and made my life a waking nightmare every day.
      One of the things she did throughout my childhood was never let me cut my hair. Not once. It was forbidden. She never gave me any reasons for it. It was a no and I knew that if I defied her I’d be abused more so I obeyed. When I reached high school my hair length was lower than my butt. I’d sit on my braid sometimes too and go ouch! Haha :)
      I did not know how to care for my hair. As a school going girl, hair that long, that thick, dense and voluminous was a pain. Always a frizzy mess. Always getting in the way of things. My scalp was stinky and I had dandruff. I had lice too. She enjoyed watching me suffer, so she wouldn’t help me with these things. My hair being this way also became one of the reasons for my getting bullied in school but that’s a story for another day.
      My first act of rebellion against my mother was to chop off my hair into a pixie cut. I did it when I was 17. She made my life even worse and worse after that, until I moved out and stopped talking to her.
      At the point of my moving out, I had kept the pixie cut for 5 years. Proudly wore it as my first act of rebellion. I had a longing to grow it out though. It was a new beginning and I wanted to do things on my terms. I wanted to fix my relationship with everything about me that she had ruined for me. I came across your channel at this point and decided to grow my hair. I then took care of it the way you described and now it each strand is a testament to something big in me that has been healed.
      I thank you and all the other women on UA-cam who played the role of a mother and sister in teaching me how to care for myself. Being a child of neglect was hard but you all made it easier.
      I’ve shared your channel with multiple other people whose lives have now changed because of you. Keep up the work :)

      @@karunyaballal9607 i cried reading your comment. For what it's worth, I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Words won't be enough. If I could I would give you a tight hug. You've endured decades of heart break and pain at the hands of the same people who were meant to protect you.
      I can't imagine what that's like.
      It is beyond brave of you to open up like this. I consider myself fortunate that you found it in your heart to share.
      I keep imagining what heights each of us would have already achieved if we didn't have to spend so much of our young adult lives trying to cope and recover from past trauma. I personally had to work on my confidence and self worth for years.
      I have some baggage. I'm not brave enough to share it. I've understood one thing from my introspections. (I am an overthinker and spend lots of time thinking about life, morality, mental health, self actualisation and all that it would entail). This is what I found to be true in my case. I had so much anger. My anger, bitterness and resentment were like a poison, corroding my mind and body. It did not affect the person I was angry at. How could it, when I did not vocalise any of it. I kept it all in. I allowed it to hold me back and eat at my insides. It manifested as physical ailments.
      I haven't let go of it completely. But I know that the only person it damages is me. This is my cross to bear and I have to work on it actively everyday.
      I wish you freedom from whatever it is that you're carrying. I hope it never holds you back.
      I wish so much healing for you and for me and for everyone reading this.
      All my love!

    So great to see you back! ❤ One q - how did your hair porosity change from high to medium? Also, regarding in-shower conditioner - I have realised that over time, my hair felt too weighed down by conditioners & hair masks - and it led to far more hairfall (I alternate b/w Mom's Co Protein, JH Hair Mask & Garnier Hair Mask). I tried this experiment where I only used the Arata leave-in conditioner after showering, and my hairfall felt far less. I know that most experts absolutely frown upon skipping hair conditioner, but what do you think about using only shampoo & leave in conditioner? Does it damage hair in the long run?

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +2

      I had a bad haircut. It ruined my shape. Had to chop off my hair inch by inch every month.
      I've been on CG for 3 plus years now. All the hair on my head is new (post starting CG). In 3 years I've coloured the lengths only once. The rest of the info I've left in the description.

      @@MichelleManuel Thanks Michelle! Could you please also let me know your thoughts on skipping hair conditioner for only leave-in?

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +3

      @@stuti6803 you if dry detangle in a wash now style later format and don't need conditioner to detangle, then you can try the above.
      Although i feel like if your hair is not happy with so many products, might as well deep condition with a regular conditioner. Use a towel or heat cap to ensure that the moisture penetrates the hair shaft.
      And then skip leave in conditioner..
      Basically my opinion is, if your hair gets weighed down, choose wash off products instead of leave in products.

      If your hair is starting* to lose definition, this means your gel is not giving you enough hold.
      You can do a few things here.
      1. Increase the amount of gel slightly
      2. Use a serum to sotc to increase the hold like I did
      3. Add a mousse to increase hold
      4. After plopping glaze your lengths an extra layer of gel or mousse
      5. Switch to a harder hold gel

      Both curl cream and leave in are not necessary unless you have high porosity hair and need to layer to hit your moisture goals. I did it here to protect my colour and cut out the orangy tones from my hair. The amounts I use now are drastically less compared to what I did before.

    PS: You look great with a middle part 😊

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +2

      I don't use any oil on my lengths. I'll tell you why. My hair porosity has changed. It is now mostly medium porosity. I'll tell you what started happening. I got a bad haircut. My shape was ruined. I had to keep cutting my lengths to regain my volume and shape. As a result I chopped off most of the high porosity bits little by little. My hair is now very prone to getting over-mosturised. If i use the same amount of product as I did before, I end up with wet feeling hair that doesn't want to dry.
      I also get lots of build up now compared to before. Because of this, on washday I have to strip my scalp and lengths of the products completely and then start afresh when it comes to adding moisture.
      If your hair is super dry and you use a very cleansing shampoo, it might help to oil the lengths. For me it never worked before. It doesn't work now either.
      But there might be some hair types that would benefit from doing this. Especially if you're not a cg follower.

    I have almost the same routine as you, it's so easy and simple to do. Except I don't usually use a hair dryer, I just air dry my hair and it saves sooooo much time, I just wash my hair and go. It isn't a problem for me to go out with wet hair (I don't live in a cold place). I also finger detangle my hair in the shower, I don't know anyone else who does that. Since I started finger detangling I lose a looooot less hair because I'm not trying to tug a comb or brush through tangles anymore and yanking out hair. Since I have low porosity hair I can only use one leave-in product, because my hair refuses to absorb products and they just sit on top of my hair and look like raindrops. I need to try your method for forming clumps using a wide-toothed comb!

    • @MichelleManuel

      You can definitely try creating your clumps with a comb. The results will not be as defined or manipulated as brush styling. But I find that it's gentle. I don't cause any breakage that way.
      Also I do prefer more natural looking, less perfect results. And so a comb does the job just fine.

    Hi Michelle. It's been really inspiring watching your journey. I had a question. My hair is super low porosity and it gets weighed down even with only using a light weight leave in. So i usually skip the leave in and only use the wella mousse. It works alright, but I'm not getting the desired volume. Can you help me with this? Thanks.

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +1

      You need to try an upside down routine if volume is your key issue.
      I have a video demonstrating my exact process. You can see how much more volume upside down styling gives me in comparison.
      You can also try root clipping to enhance root lift. I have a video on this as well.

    how do you fluff your roots and how much time does this process take

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +3

      I take a little serum/oil rub it on the palm of my hands, scrunch out the crunch and then fluff my roots..
      This is how I fluff my roots, i puy my hand into my scalp from the sides of my head and gingerly shake it. This breaks the cast on the top lengths and allows me to get some root lift and volume. You can also use a root comb or root pick. Do this delicately without breaking your clumps apart.

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +3

      Time wise, just fluff till the gel cast is gone and your hair feels soft. It should not feel rubbery or hard. Don't over fluff or you'll lose definition and cause tangling.

    Would you recommend the true frog curl cream and northwise shampoo for someone with fine low porosity 2b 2c curls?
    Loved the video❤️

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. :)
      No, i wouldn't recommend the true frog curl cream to a person with low porosity hair. The curl cream is a protein product.
      The northwish shampoo may be good because it gets rid of build up very well. Low porosity hair will have lots of regular buildup each week. So if you have an oily scalp and need a cleansing shampoo, you can go for it. If you have a dry and sensitive scalp, then use something gentle instead.
      For leave in, check out the ashba botanics leave in conditioner or the Sugarboo curls leave in or curl cream.(i did a review. Check the ingredient section once..i forget which one is protein free)
      You can also check out the arata leave in conditioner. The one in the green tube. It's light and protein free.

      @Michelle Manuel thank you for the
      reply Michelle.
      Yes I do have oily scalp and dry hair and thus i wash my hair twice a week. It works pretty well for my hair.
      Also, i prefer styling my hair once in that two washdays. I don't like using products every time and thus that's what I prefer.
      Do you have any tips?
      And about all those leave-ins that you mentioned, which one out of those will give me maximum shrinkage.
      i want my hair to have maximum shrinkage as it'll be easier to manage.
      Thank you:D

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Рік тому +1

      Okay about shrinkage, on my hair, the Sugarboo leave in and curl cream give me the most shrinkage. When you protein free products, shrinkage will come from diffusing and plopping. Not so much from the product itself. If i had to compare the results of air drying, the Sugarboo product wins. Please do check the ingredients. One is protein free and one contains protein if i remember correctly. My memory is not serving me on this. For you I would say no protein, no coconut and check to see what causes flash drying on your hair. It's very subjective and differs from person to person.
