While I have my own "5 favs," I have to say this was really fun to watch and I like the rationale behind each fly. Of course whatever waters we fish have a lot to do with our selection, but the rationale is very similar. Great vid amigo!
Perdigon is my fav. I don’t fish as big of rivers as you do. But the sink rate. Makes them drop in places no other fly will get to. Other then that, thread Frenchie or blowtorch. But if I see a nice hole where I think a big trout could be laying I always will tie on that jig. And a soft hackle on the dropper usually. Essentially the same list. Except my experience with Perdigons is never a miss. Unless the fish are high in the water column.
My go-to euro nymphs are as follows: Lead fly Golden stonefly Hellgrammite Trailer: Caddis larvae Frenchie w/ yellow collar Frenchie w/ gold collar Golden pheasant tail variant
Great list. I'd go rainbow warrior, red dart, San Juan worm, jig prince, and definitely "Egan" steamer. Lance credits Walt Weiss in the tutorial, to be fair.
I make that same Lance Egan streamer but with a 5mm faceted bead and pink hot spot. Gets down and seems to work well. I really like the Hare&Copper and tungsten taco egg
Great list. I count on the pheasant tail, hare's ear, wooly bugger and a kiwi muddler. Late last season I started learning about the flies you use and it seems my catch rate has increased. Fun to tie and exciting to use. Thanks for sharing your list.
A good selection and thanks for the reasoning. I would add a flashback pheasant tail in claret and a hair and copper but I'm sure your flies would deceive just as many Kiwi trout. Thanks from down-under.
The biggest difference is in rod weight and accuracy. If you are just starting out I would say it's not worth it, but if you have been fishing this way for a few years you will appreciate the differences.

Yeah for sure, nice. I only said it’s hit or miss on that pattern because it’s a bright attractor type pattern. Frenchie and blowtorch are so solid
I have found a slim gold rib hares ear with a clear or smoke bead head on a jig hook is my year round go to fly
That sounds like a killer pattern
Rozas pink pheasant tail, rozas green tag, Spanish bullet quill, purple Duracell, peacock Perdigon. Same home river😉
Yeah those are all sweet options. Sometimes it hard to choose :)

Ahhh I didn’t even realize he said that!
Great video. Really helpful the way you explain your reasoning behind each fly. This is what excellent teachers do. Nice!
Glad it was helpful!
It seemed like all I could fish in May was an olive walts, but now I’m on to an Egan’s frenchie and simple PT kick!
Yeah, those are solid options for sure!
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to tying these and adding them to my box. Cheers from Tennessee!
Let me know how they work for you!
I make that same Lance Egan streamer but with a 5mm faceted bead and pink hot spot. Gets down and seems to work well. I really like the Hare&Copper and tungsten taco egg
That sounds like it would get down super fast, nice!

The Kiwi Muddler is one variation that I hadn't heard of, gonna check that one out!
@@FlyingTies That is a great fly. I caught my biggest brown and rainbow with it. It's a Jack Dennis fly.
Hot spot pheasant tail, copper bead, 14-18 ….. Great selection of flies👍🏼
That's a good one for sure, thanks for watching!
I also use the thread frenchie without any dubbing. The quildigon, stupid simple pheasant tail as well as the blow torch.
Hard to go wrong there!
@@FlyingTies are you going to do a top 5 nymph patterns for fall and winter as well?
@@justaman3333 it’s on my list for sure :)
Excellent video and great top 5!! Beaded pheasant tail, fire starter, olive bullet, blow torch and walts worm for me!! Thanks for sharing!!
That's a pretty solid top 5, nice!
Excellent video, now I just need to get you over to the South Fork in Idaho to teach me the finer points of euro nymphing!!
Haha yeah for sure :)

Nice! Thanks for watching
Woolly bugger, San juan worm, copper John, stone fly, hares ear
Nice! Thanks for watching
@@FlyingTies thank you. Great video
Keep these videos going man. Good content.
Quick suggestion. Make a 5 second intro video showing off your fish you have caught.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind!
Great as usual, thanks
Thanks for watching
Hola buen video consulta que caña usas 10 o 11 pies
Thanks
what color bead on the Olive Egan Streamer? Thanks
I mostly fish them with a pink metallic tungsten bead, but silver and copper are a solid choice also. Hope this helps!
@@FlyingTies right on tks
Do you have a link on that Walt's Worm variation? Thanks!
It’s basically this fly with a hot tag globrite tail ua-cam.com/video/ZVD5YwHR5F8/v-deo.html
@@FlyingTies Awesome! Thank you!
I saw a Orvis recon euro rod, what are your opinions on it? Good stick ?
Yes, that is the 10' 2wt. It's a great rod, but it is a bit on the slower side. If that's what you are into I would say to go for it
@@FlyingTies how much of a difference is there between the highway end contact 2 and hardy rods, versus a mid level rod ? Is it worth it ?
The biggest difference is in rod weight and accuracy. If you are just starting out I would say it's not worth it, but if you have been fishing this way for a few years you will appreciate the differences.
WALTS WORM WITH A TAG AND CDC COLLAR SOUNDS A LOT LIKE A BLOWTORCH
You are correct, really similar to a blowtorch
@@FlyingTies great recommendations in ur video too. People sleep on the shart! It’s a banger.
Thanks!
