    I have a hip problem that does not allow me to stand up from my knees in one direction. Your tip on how to place your front hand on the first handle and press down with the other hand to create a tripod effect saved my progression. I would not have been able to progress otherwise as I could only start in one direction. Thank you !

    I hadn't seen the tripod technique, leveraging one arm to push the trailing edge of the wing down for stability. Looking forward to trying it!

    This really helps and thank you. I will watch and re-watch to hopefully get this locked in my brain. I'm coming from 32 years of wind sports with the last 10 years in kitefoiling tiny "pocket boards". This is a big challenge for me as it's been since 2003 was the last time I essentially dropped windsurfing, purchased and entirely new fleet of gear. Starting with large foil, large wing, floaty board. I weigh 70kg

    You guys are awesome. I got my first board/wing 3 years ago but in northern Indiana on lakes surrounded by woods there just isn't much wind unless it's March or Nov and 30 degrees and sleeting. Highest summer speed hit is about 12mph per summer. And that might be once or twice.
    One of the most depressing days of my life was the day I got a wind meter and learned just how slowly the wind can be moving and still have flags flying erect in the wind. (sub 10mph)
    What we always used to judge a really windy day. LOL
    There was very little information/how to out there and I just crashed. The wing (1st gen Slingwing) was too heavy (rotator cuff issues) and my balance not that great to stand there for long with not enough wind. Frustrated, I bought a Lift Efoil and have enjoyed immensely learning to foil the past 2 summers (short season). Now I'm ready to take it to the wing! Understanding that what is barely moving on the water could be moving decently on the foil I am really stoked for this coming summer. I'll start on our Red Paddle Co windsurf inflatable sup with center daggerboad (only went downwind before!) and 6m wing vs the 4.5 I was on before. I've got a big wing for my foil (I'm 225lb) and once I get the hang of sailing I'm going to buy one of the larger inflatable foil boards (fantatic sky air premium or starboard air foil) for the stability to learn on before (hopefully) getting a smaller hard board when I can stay on the foil most of the time.
    There is suddenly (just this year) a lot more specific technical information out there! What a beautiful thing.
    When i started the answer to the question "how do you turn that thing?" was "you go out and try it and figure it out".
    Spent many hours figuring out things that are now learned in a few minutes watching videos if you pay attention. But that was also half the fun, learning something that very few other people have ever tried.
    The first summer of the Lift, there was a group of guys that rented a cottage for the summer at the lake we frequent. They had bought 3 Fliteboards and were hawking learning rides at $300 pop trying to pay for their boards I think. They would see us out struggling (learning) and would always pull up and ask if we wanted a lesson. They used head sets and a teacher on another board and really got people going quickly. But they were dumbstruck that we would struggle when we could learn it quickly. Not grasping the joy of the self learning of something new and profoundly different. Just my take.
    I'll be 65 in June and I think this stuff is part of the answer to staying young. The balance work required for this (and most) old folks is extensive. I always thought balance issues were inner ear kind of problems. Was surprised to be held back by muscles giving out from over use. I'm spent quite a few hours on a Blue Planet balance board and that has helped immensely.

      That is a hard transition always! Just let off power in your wing "back hand" and maybe steer your board a hair down wind and it should help with the speed and slow you down. You can also bring your wing more over your head and it will lift up vs pulling you faster and faster if you are not sheeting out with your back hand. Hope that can help.

    You guys rock! Awesome video as usual. Once this sport really takes off you'll be at the forefront of everyone's learning journey.
    Question: Is it common to get the wing, board, and foil at different times and play with each setup once you get it? For example, I bought my wing first (to use with my SUP), then a 125 L board, and the foil last. The main reason is the expense of all the gear.
    Yesterday I took the wing and the board (no foil) out and practiced everything you show in this video. Does the foil add a bit of stability to the board? It was pretty difficult to get up and riding, but I had a couple of good runs.
    Thanks for the tips!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому

      Yep the foil will act like a large rudder so it actually adds stability a little more. Saying that, the hardest part is balancing on the board in the beginning. It takes time and a few more sessions to find the balance.

    Great instructional and encouraging videos. You mention at about 10,20 about letting out a little power. I notice your right arm(back hand) extends out to release power. I've also heard about releasing power by raising the wing. Which would you say is the best way and does it change when you are on foil. Many a time on foil i have to really let out lots of power with the back hand to basically stop climbing. Is there anything else i should be doing to keep the board flat on foil with so much power?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому

      Paul great eye! They both work but releasing the hand will let power out for sure, Changing the angle of the wing more above your head will just give lift up vs sideways and slow you down as well. The other way to loose power is to angle your board a little more downwind as you will then get less wing into your wing. I hope that makes sense.

    • @TheYellowDmon
      @TheYellowDmon 2 роки тому

      @@DamienLeroyUA-cam great feedback. The bit about pointing the board down wind to loose power is different to windsurfing which would increase speed and hence lift. Just need to talk myself to downwind more to loose power.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому +1

      @@TheYellowDmon Sheet your back hand out, point your board more down wind and you will loose power. If you are riding way overpowered on the wing, maybe this will not work. Just a thought.

    If I want to go FAST in a straight line, not concerned with carving, can my Foil be too big for my weight? Will having the largest foil I can find ever slow me down with drag? Does the law of diminishing returns apply to this very specific scenario? Or does foil size only have to do with stability vs ease of turning? Thanks for making your channel!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому

      Yes 100% if you have the biggest foil made it will have high amounts of Drag and will only go so fast. It will hit a wall at a certain speed. That is why people are loving the High aspect wings smaller sizes, high lift but less drag. A larger range for sure.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube

      It is more of a body shift to steer downwind or upwind! Think driving your back foot forward pulling your front back and vise versa to go upwind or down wind. Little movements do a lot on a foil! Keep that in mind. Enjoy friend and thanks for the kind words.
