I’ve always believed that artists should make music primarily for themselves. Of course you want other people to hear and appreciate your music as well, but that shouldn’t be the driving factor. If you make music because you like listening to what you’ve created, the result will often be more genuine and original than if you had set out to make a hit or cater to a particular audience. I don’t think that’s a widely held perspective on the topic, it’s just how I see it.
Wet Leg are an example of a band that no-matter where your from. If you write catchy killer songs like they have. You will get noticed. Like Dave Grohl said, anyone can make it BUT you have to be a badass and you have to work it.
