  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) is a chronic allergic condition that occurs in the esophagus, with diagnoses on the rise in recent years. That's why we asked registered dietitian, Amanda Lynett, to share her expertise on treating EoE with elimination diet therapy. Amanda gives her input on how to approach elimination diets safely, and an inside look at her course designed to help patients navigate the ins and outs of EoE food triggers in everyday life. Check out Amanda's course here: education.giondemand.com

    Hi, I'm looking for an opinion from you. A year ago I was diagnosed with EOE, with 25 eosinophils. After steroid therapy I had a complete remission, but given the complications of candidiasis that it caused me, I interrupted the treatment and tried therapy with proton pump inhibitors, but my Eosinophils at the end of the therapy were 30. I have always been left between 20 and 30. I decided to do the 6 food elimination diet, but after 8 weeks my eosinophils became 100, and 50 also in another part of my esophagus. Could anyone give me their opinion on how this was possible. The only explanation I can give myself is that during the diet I was eating too much of a food to which I am allergic. I await your opinion too.

      I agree with your interpretation-maybe you added or increased a food that you're actually allergic to-but I'm not an expert on this. I wish you good luck figuring it all out!

      I think you could be right-by trying to avoid the foods that humans are most commonly allergic to you probably ate something you are allergic to more that is just a more rare allergy. I hope you can discover what it is and get the right treatment 💓

    Very informative & well explained video! Dealing with eosinophilia can be exhausting, but thanks to the informative content on this channel. Personally, Planet Ayurveda's supplements gave relief. My cousin, who also struggled with this condition, saw significant improvements after incorporating these natural remedies into his routine. Here's to better health for all! 🌿

      I feel you! We are vegetarians and to find food within this category was very tough. Today marks 3 months since her diagnosis. It took my kid about 3 weeks to get used to Oatmilk. She doesn't crave Pizza or milk anymore. Her pain in esophagus and stomach has reduced ! I can't wait to see the results of her next endoscopy! So, HANG in there and it will take TIME for this to kick in. If you ever need a list of what I feed my kid let me know and I can post it here. Good Luck and if anyone hasn't already told you, your going to kick EOE in its behind and come through for your kid!

      @@masonmalaguti3463 Yes, repeat endoscopy is one of the main challenges of dietary management of EoE. But each patient must work with their providers to find what works best for them. Here is an excerpt from a recent paper "Development of a Practical Guide to Implement and Monitor Diet Therapy for Eosinophilic Esophagitis" by Dr. Joy Chang et al
      www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1542356523001866
      "Many patient-level factors must be assessed when considering candidates for EoE dietary therapy, such as patient motivation, preferences and values, age or stage of life, lifestyle, work and living situation, willingness for frequent endoscopies, and possibly finances and insurance coverage for several endoscopies and dietitian costs (Table 2). Screening for cost or adherence barriers to implementing the diet, taking an inventory of the patient’s diet history, and assessment of current nutritional status are important in this decision.63 In addition to offering diet as an effective and viable alternative to medication, one must work with the patient to weigh these factors in choosing a therapy plan that is concordant with patient preferences and successful. Although not addressed in detail here, particular care and involvement with a dietitian is necessary for pediatric patients on dietary therapy given specific considerations for growth, development, feeding ability and screening for feeding aversion disorders, and parent and family preferences."

      @@GastroGirl the only people that are able to do endoscopies for food like this aree the one percent im in eoe reddit and facebook groups ive talked to hundreds of people and less then 0.001 percent of them were able to afford to scope after every food
      I only been eating beef, rice, chcken, blueberries, pineapple, water, salt, and i still havent been able to lower my eosonophils
      TOns of eoe patients get screwed by the medical system and not taken seriously

    Can it be caused by environmental allergens and not food?
    It's been 2 years that I get the symptoms when I am at my workplace. When I am away from work for a long period I feel much better and symptoms go away after a few days. I go back to work and the symptoms come again! 😢
    Can it be linked to hyperhomocysteinemia?

    what kind of protein powder is ok ....whey? vegan?

    • @GastroGirl
      @GastroGirl  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for your question. This is a tricky question as it depends on what foods trigger your EoE symptoms. The only way for you to know for sure what your esophagus is allergic to is to consult with your gastroenterologist and do an elimination diet with repeat scopes to determine what foods to avoid.
      Generally, whey is milk derived and milk is one of the top allergens which triggers EoE. You may want to look into a protein powder that uses other ingredients and/or consult your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian with GI expertise who can guide you through the elimination process. Hope that helps.

    What happen if EOE is left untreated?

    • @GastroGirl
      @GastroGirl  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for your question. In some people, eosinophilic esophagitis can lead to the following:
      1. Scarring and narrowing of the esophagus. This makes it difficult to swallow and more likely that you will have food get stuck.
      2. Damage to the esophagus. Because of inflammation of the esophagus, endoscopy can cause perforation or tears in the tissue that lines the esophagus. Tearing also can occur in connection with retching that some people experience when they get food stuck in the esophagus.
      (Source: Mayo Clinic)
      If left untreated, eosinophilic esophagitis is a progressive disorder in some patients, according to a 2021 research paper.
