Fabulous conversation!! All I say is Whole Foods. I am 65 year old lady. My life was full of migraines, until I start removing food out of my daily life. That was 20 years ago. It’s so hard to heal by changing habits & know whole food heals gut.

I'm a mma fighter in New England and I was already super healthy and fit compared to the average person but when I started doing things you recommended I realized I was carrying around like 5-10 lbs of extra weight via inflammation. Once I started adding more fats and fiber (via avocados, seeds, etc) and eliminating bad carbs (bread etc) I literally dropped an entire weightclass. Now instead of walking around at 160ish and cutting to 145 i walk around at 150ish and can cut down to 135 and have way less "FLC" when doing it.

Have Hashimoto's + 2 other autoimmune issues. I always appreciate these interviews and chats to educate myself more about autoimmune and healing. Been on the elimination diet for 3 months and still have gas, bloating, IBS, etc. Sadly functional doctors and doctors that are the most helpful are not covered by insurance so I feel like I'm on my own to try and feel better. My objective to this discussion - as with over 95% of discussions about food and health - is the distinction between organic and naturally raised foods versus ALL of the rest. For example, I will never drink commercial milk, dairy or eggs because it is likely that they have been fed GMO foods and/or exposed to chemicals. People have been drinking milk, dairy and eggs for thousands of years but "modern foods" with chemicals, GMO, etc. is only in the last 100 years roughly. So this isn't a scientific discussion. In the early 20th century a raw, unpasteurized milk protocol was used to treat patients with certain conditions. Today a strict milk diet would likely kill me over not to long of a period of time.
In the 1970's I met a man who said he was a peanut farmer. I happened to be eating peanuts at the time and I offered some to him. He declined and said "I don't eat peanuts". Surprised I asked him why. He said the commercial peanuts, as a plant, as so hybridized that they required lots of chemicals to survive. He didn't want to consume the "weak" peanut or the chemicals. And that was in 1976. Imagine today......

Addicted to dairy - yes!!! I have experienced that first hand. It was not hard for me to overcome, it he probably developed from drinking my coffee with milk in it several times a day. When I tried to cut back on coffee I suddenly realised that I was actually craving the milk and not the coffee. Cheese, cream, butter, anything!
I still live those products but I don't incorporate them in my diet on a daily basis anymore and for me that works well.
However just the idea of going to my doctor saying "I am addicted to dairy" is unthinkable, because he would 100% not take me seriously. I had to do my own research, and it makes a lot of sense... you'd want a baby to really crave that milk. So our bodies are just doing what they are designed to do.

Dear Dr. Hyman, your podcast is very interesting and you invite fantastic people. But either you have to stop doing these interviews -- or you have to learn not only how to conduct an interview, but the basic rules of dialog s' behavior and simple politeness! It is such a shame that you DO NOT LET TALK to your wonderful guests! You interrupt constantly; out of all the time (49 minutes) you are talking 4/5 of it! Your jokes are heavy and not funny at all. Why do you invite these people, if you do not respect then and , of course, know everything better! You said that you do this because you LOVE doing this... NO! It looks like you love only YOURSELF and use this podcast just to PROMOTE yourself and your books.

These guests hold a gold mine of information and are. continuously interrupted by the doctor with useless jokes, puns and diatribes, If he treats his personal guests like that, I would up and leave, These talks are about plugging his wellness center. My daughter had me listen to some podcasts by Oprah Winfrey. When my daughter asked how I like them, I said, "I wish Oprah wouldn't interrupt so much." My daughter explained to me that it is a discussion--not an interview. I think everyone can learn from that as we listen to Dr Hyman's Podcasts. I feel he adds to what the guest is saying. In this discussion she also interrupted him a few times to "add" to what he was saying. There was never a time that the idea of the guest's thoughts were eliminated.

In a REAL discussion you woundt even register something as interuption. Thats coz what we sense as interuption are the bumps and cracks in the flow of the converastion. Thats when its obvs that both sides are heard and understood and had the time and the respect of others to share their thoughts and ideas fully. I think your daughter have too much respect to Oprah and thus think/feel she have more right to talk. Specialy on her own podcast. But this is not how discussion between equals work.

Eggs make my joints swell in 24 hours after eating. Gluten causes intestinal pain. Too much fruit of any kind can make me shaky and cause intestinal discomfort. Good show.

The phrase 'You Are What You Eat' means that it is important to eat good food in order to be healthy and fit. Example of Use: “I'm feeling more energetic now that I've started eating more salad.” Answer: “You are what you eat!”👍

Great episode, I am trying to heal my brain from a concussion. 3 1/2 years with drs only amounted to countless meds & being told I was depressed. Over 20 years I was primarily vegetarian with small amounts of fish & chicken. When I had bad reactions to the medication I was told to eat more oatmeal, fruits & veggies so I tried the vegan diet for 30 days. It didn’t go well at all, I ended up trying keto which worked well initially. I kept researching and heard about carnivore diet which scared me as I always heard red meat & saturated fats were the worst for you & I always listened. I felt I had nothing to lose and tried carnivore for 30 days. It’s been 4 1/2 mos and I feel better physically than I really ever remember which includes dental improvements! Best of all my brain has calmed down, there’s a mental clarity I haven’t experienced since 2016. I tried adding a few veggies (2 pieces of lettuce) and was bloated for 1/2 the day. Always hearing how necessary fruits/veggies are what does someone like me do when only meat is working. I don’t want to miss key nutrients.

J Carver About 1 month in I noticed my gum sensitivity was completely gone. Right before the pandemic I was going to have 2 cavities filled. I feel no discomfort at all at this point. My teeth are whiter, they feel stronger & one of the weirdest things is my teeth feel the way they do when I have them cleaned, that smooth feel. No more dragon mouth in the morning also I have not used deodorant in 3 months. Have you considered trying the carnivore diet?

Listen to your body! I'm 64, and I can't believe how many opinions I have changed this year. I also went carnivore after decades of being vegetarian or vegan, and I feel fantastic. I tried adding a few low-oxalate veggies like cauliflower, but I really just want meat! Why fight it? We have been raised with so much misinformation; now I trust my own body's wisdom.

Eva V I started off using coconut & olive oil because I used them on keto & LOVED them both, but the more I listened to those that were getting the brain & health benefits that I so desperately wanted I started using suet (local butcher & I love it), grass fed butter. I have always loved food, but I really can’t imagine not continuing this as it’s also so delicious.

Luann Rouff Thank you, you’re so right I have to stop worrying about this because I am feeling amazing. One of the outcomes of my concussion is self doubt. I consistently question myself and I definitely didn’t want to do anything that would blow my heart up!😀 I have these conversations with myself about “how could something that taste so amazing along with health benefits be bad”. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I am rethinking my addition of dried fruits & nuts as fiber/ protein & fat sources. Nobody ever mentioned that the processing could render them "reactive" for me. Great new info for me. My mother had severe food addictions, so I am aware of the possibility.

Hi, have you ever come across a latex fruit syndrom intolerance?
I have a mild latex allergy and had problem with certain foods which otherwise are very healthy(kiwi, chestnuts, aloe Vera, coconut)
I never had problem with these in the past, when my gut was fine.
I wonder if anyone else experienced a reaction to these foods as I think it's quite unusual...?

10 min into video. Have no doubt that this lady has a lot of valuable information and experience to contribute. Cannot continue to watch as he is interrupting what the lady is saying constantly. I say this, not to be nasty, but rather so that he may re think, his interviewing technique and allow the other person to answer the question before he interrupts with his joke, viewpoint or piece of information. Would like an interview where this lady is allowed to answer the questions put to her. Thank you.

Considering that this is FREE and is his channel, I don't understand all of the interruption complaints. They obviously covered everything they were going to otherwise the video would be longer. I you have such a problem with it, go watch someone else. His contributions are just that, to clarify and engage and make the interview interesting. There are other places where you could just print out the info if it's such a problem. Trolls go away you're just making yourself look like children. Thank you both for the video.

Young lady is forking condescending. And justifying it is further ignorance. Please get smart.
As a generality we are blissfully blind to our inner assumptions of class(ification) and predjudice.
Being a young lady is grown out of (it stops, at about 16..20 depending) and restarts again when she looks old.
Or maybe that is just the way of men in a certain cohort, called showing your age.
We do need a gender-neutral pronoun set.

The real question should kinda be. Why da fuck do we get this. Im literately intolerant to everything i eat. And i m so tired of it. And i dont really believe the variety is the problem. I mean looking back 100 years people ate the same shit every day. They all could work in elderly years.
