I never realized John Mayall was that old, even though I new he's been around along time.Such a great artist, he'll be missed definitely. I heard Paul McCartney ( he was in The Beatles )😊 hung around with him back in the day and they would listen to blues records together. RIP Mr. Mayall. Take care Glen !
That Yes album on Discogs starts at $43 for the CD, so you did great. I love the songs on that as much as Magnification, especially the two long epics. I think my favorite band right now is Can, but The Beatles will always be the greatest no matter what, as you said.
H Glen!!! sorry to hear about John Mayall, he really was a big influence in the british blues rock scene.... nice Yes score and for a fair price too. Nice to hear about your new favorite band. cheers and be well
I'll have to listen to Adrianne, I've seen that cover everywhere. That's the only John Mayall album that I own. I'm so excited for you to see Billy Strings!
Great John Mayall reflections. I think my friend Jim introduced me to John Mayall music via Turning Point and the Diary of a Band when we were in high school. Diary of a Band has Mick Taylor, if I remember correctly and maybe interviews - I don't remember exactly. I think when Eric Clapton started with John Mayall he was already a virtuoso guitarist. Like, did he learn anything after that? I mean, he applied wah wah to Cream but did he increase his skills? I think he was actually born playing electric guitar. One thought on The Beatles: They paved the way with different styles through their career after they played hours on end in Germany. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr all were from Liverpool so they kind of had similar musical influences. Paul had a musical family and took a few piano lessons as child (maybe?), John learned guitar tuned like a banjo (fact check?) and they all were involved in skiffle in the beginning. They earned their way and had failures and successes through their early years - not close to being very good. They weren't always number one. Their official releases were spotty musically. Not perfect in my opinion. But they were one of the first bands to write their own material - learning from Chuck Berry and others, maybe? Since they had a lot of originality through their short career, I think they are looked at as the best band ever by almost everyone. For me, along with Bob Dylan, the landscape of music has been forever changed. That being said, The Beatles influenced others to become even better than them. The Grateful Dead took bluegrass, jazz, folk, rock, etc., and made it their own. Jerry Garcia started out as a banjo player and that, along with one of his fingers being lopped off, informed his style of guitar playing that no other jam band can emulate. I don't know how he became the defacto leader of the Grateful Dead but they had so many iterations - more than The Beatles - but the core stayed - Jerry, Bob, Phil and Bill. And Robert Hunter - the late great lyricist. I started listening to bluegrass because of the Grateful Dead - Jerry - Old and In The Way is where I started. And jazz as well. I started with Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. So, both the Beatles and the Grateful Dead have led me to explore other music. So have the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan of course. I have been listening to the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones all summer so far - with some Tommy Emmanuel, Bela Fleck, and Billy Strings and a few others in there. Also love Adrianne Lenker! She's in Big Thief, also an awesome band!
A Hard Road cover is different Glen. What you show was Eric Clapton Bluesbreakers albumfrom1966. A Hard Road is with Peter Green and has a cover of the the. band painted by John Mayall
Congratulations on your new favorite band 😊 Still enjoying the Billy Strings Live album too. Some of the playing is really insane, specially when he switches to electric... that sound is absolutely mindblowing.
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement That's a great one, definitely one of the best tracks. Love that Billy gives so much space for his bandmates to shine, each solo is next level.
"KC - King Crimson". I thought you were going to say KC and the Sunshine Band. Have you seen that guy lately? Makes me feel less guilty about all the weight I gained during Covid lockdown. Keystudio for 7.99 is probably much less than what Larry charges you to "borrow" his CD's. If you like that Adrianne Lenker album you should give Grey DeLisle "Driftless Girl" a spin. It's on my list of tops for this year.
shame on you! talking about John Mayall's great guitar players and failing to mention his last, great guitarist Carolyn Wonderland. She is the best, still working - if you are lucky you may catch her on tour. I've seen her 4 or 5 times and have always left the show happy

I had a quick listen to Ms. Lenker. An excellent soporific. Have you bought ‘Photo Finish’ by Rory Gallagher yet? Don’t make me come down there.
lol…have not bought it yet..the doors are locked..
You cost me money 😂I put my cash on The Monkees
Get to the track and win it back..
