This is my first Nano, and I’m fully breaking the rules: no novel, no word count goal! Instead, I’m finishing the first draft of my creative writing thesis, so I need 45-60 pages of poetry by the end of the month!
I call it the "Inconvenient Ad Break"; like when you're watching a tv episode and the ad plays over the show and then won't let you go back and see what you missed.
Lol I came here to post the same thing. I’ve been planning for this day and completely forgot 🤦♀️ I literally just got a habit tracker in the mail 10minutes ago. Maybe it’s time to open it 😂
I'm doing 500 words/day in any form, so today I've gotten 150 just from a diary entry. I'm sitting on my porch writing to the sound of rain - it's great! Just what I needed on a bad day. I think that little gap in time could be so fun! I want to hear all the awkward explanations.
Hooray! Happy Camp! I’ve been recently going through a writing rut as all my 3rd person projects started sounding the same, so I’ve started a completely new 1st person project for Camp! I’m doing 50k words and I’ve already written 3,800 ish today! Starting strong! I haven’t done a camp since 2020
Omg I am obsessed with that puzzle! 😍 For revisions I actually track my progress by 'problem fixed' rather than words/scenes/chapters. I find especially for later drafts, this allows me to jump around a bit more and tackle things out of order. Of course it's not exactly linear cause one problem can be take me a week to fix and then the next problem might take me an hour, but I still find it's worth it for the ability to jump around easier and focus on one thing at a time.
I love your puzzle tray!!! I want one like it to keep my cats off my puzzles. My first day of camp went really well! I've got a little over 4k right now and I'm debating if I want to try and make that an even 5k before I go to bed. The trick is going to be keeping up with writing throughout the month, LOL.
Aaaaah Camp time! I'm going for the full 50k this camp because I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do November, I'm mainly focusing on one project, but I'm also doing a whole summer long event in a writers discord server that I'm in, so that'll fill in some gaps where I need to take a break from my main project. I hope camp goes well for you, Kate, I believe in you!
I think that skip can be done well. Like a bunch of school kids get caught doing something naughty by the teacher and then it just skips to them in detention. Or if it skips to a really bizarre outcome and you slowly figure out through dialogue or POV character how they got into this new situation. But whether that trumps just showing the scene in real time I think depends on how important it is to the actual story.
I agree! I think it's great when used for a comedic delivery. That said, when it's a result of lazy writing it's insufferable. In Misery Annie Wilkies was ready to kill over it!XD
As authors and writers, we make puzzles for readers to solve in reality. My goal is to work on well written monologues. A very important mode for getting characterization and goals across to the reader. Another new buzz word for me is: Counter-Punctual Writing. It basically keeps the readers awake with changes of all sorts. (Maybe even the writer as well ??? ) They never said writing was easy.
i’ve written 501 words so far for camp on a project i have 25,000 words so far on. my goal for camp is 50k so i can finish book. i haven’t done camp nano before so i’m superrr excited :) good luck kate
You've made me commit to nano again this time. Let's see how much I can get done. I think just working on something more often is better than hitting a certain word count goal. I have also lost the last five or so camp nanos in a row haha T-T
Yessss, agreed! Sometimes it's just the extra motivation boost needed in order to write a hundred words on a day when you really don't feel like it. I've known lots of people who have used Camp or November's NaNo just to help set a routine. GOOD LUCK! YOU GOT THIS. :)
progress is progress! I am starting late in camp nanowrimo because I was sick the first couple of days but I am only hoping to get 30K done this month since I am also working on some edits of my previous novel.
I do revisions in scenes or chapters. I'm also an edit as you go kind of writer. I don't do heavy edits while drafting unless I feel it is absolutely necessary. More like small things I forgot to add or lightly changes to how an argument went. It makes me feel like I have all my ducks in a row. Plus, you're totally right, I hate it. What happened?? Don't skip over that stuff!
My goals are very easy - some writing (whether 5 mins or an hour) every day plus one pic a day. I'm travelling for 20 days to Europe and moving provinces this month so the focus isn't on the novel, just on not losing momentum. 😁 While I'm travelling, it'll be travel writing and while I'm home, it'll be my novel. So yes, multiple projects.
I always forget about Camp NanoWrimo until the last day of June, this year I forgot about it until the 2nd July so I quickly set myself a small goal. I have a project I have been working on for a while but I have been slipping out of the habit of writing, so this July I am giving myself just a 6,000 word goal so that I don't feel overwhelmed.
It’s camp! 🥳 I’m coming fresh off of edits of part 1 of my duology and diving right into drafting part 2. I have a very rough outline I’m following and hoping to bank 30k for the month
i'm using camp to read my novel and write notes to prepare for the second draft. So my "word count" goal on the nano website is just 62 for the 62 chapters in the novel
My primary goal for nano is to finish the draft of the book I'm currently working on. I'm at almost 90k words so I set my goal for camp nano at 100k. There is a strong possibility that I go over the 100k word mark since I still have a 3 or 4 major plot points before I can get to the climax. My second goal--more of a hope--is that once I finish the draft of my book I would also like to write a novella in this same world. I don't know if this is realistic and may have to push the novella back to August but it is my hope.
I'm keeping up my slow and steady pace for camp! only about 500 words a day - I have so many edits for other people on right now that I can't do more than that. Trying to remember to update daily is already proving hard (it's the 3rd here), but I just remembered how to go and update for a previous day, so, yay!
I'm hoping to get 30k written on the novel I started for the 24hr challenge so I get to the halfway point and then hopefully another 15k on a fantasy novel 🎉 The "No whammy!" is from Press your Luck. Used to love that game show!
That puzzle is my favorite design! I have the poster but now I'm wondering if I need the puzzle 😅 I'm not a fan of the cliffhanger scene jumps. It has to be done very well to make up for the miserable dissonance for me.
YESSSSSS get you the puzzle! I think I’ll use puzzle glue on this one and hang it up like a poster once I’m done! YES. Thank you for expressing this much better than I could bahaha. Exactly my problem.
Best of luck all. This year for camp nano i am... moving house. No novel for me, most likely, but i really hope everyone else is able to make progress!!!
I'm using some notes I've been taking while playing DnD as an outline and I set the goal to only 15k words. I fear I don't have much time for it but even if I don't write that often I always get motivated during Nano season 😁💖💖
NaNoWriMo sells it!! It looks like it’s still in stock. You can find it here: store.nanowrimo.org/collections/shop/products/copy-of-nanowrimo-2008-city-of-novelists-poster Happy puzzling!!! :)
I actually forgot July was Nanowrimo but I was planning on starting a rewrite of a sci-fi story so I started it today and got two chapters done! (Though the chapters are still very short because it's only like the second draft so I only got like 1,400 something words)
I'm still working on my discovery outline/zero draft and I do hope that 15,000 or even more this month take me to the end 😅 because I'm already starting to get scene ideas for the 2nd book and I think I already have the first sentence of book 2 also😅
First day has gone fairly well, I am already at 2800 ( 7 pages that I am counting as 400 words a page) seams like a slow day. Trying not to push myself.
It's a Ubotie!! My sister-in-law bought it for me off Amazon. They have a ton of different color schemes. Some of the letters have rubbed off a bit after so much use, but it's still so cute, would totally recommend it!
I was so close to finishing my draft and I set a goal for camp nano and now I'm super close to being done and it's only been 7 days and I feel like I've cheated😂
I had a good first day of Camp. I haven't written or edited since Feb of 2020 and was afraid I might still be stuck. Since I'm editing, as set up for camp I counted the words in each chapter. My goal is to edit 100k but my hope is to edit a chapter a day. If I do that I will be way over the goal but the book will be done with edit one.
*gasp* 5 MINUTES AGO! I'm FIVE MINUTES LATE??? That Nanowrimo puzzle is so freaking cute. Lmao just tried update the Nanowrimo site and for some reason it kept telling me that I already won with 2329 words like lmao tf do you mean?! 😂 The first day of camp is going pretty good so far. I'm trying to stick to Project Mafia, but only have the beginning leading into Act 2 as well as the Dark Night of the Soul and everything after that figured out so I have a lot of brainstorming ahead of me. But I'm tracking moreso by scenes completed and less by word count- though obviously for Camp Nano sites sake (wow trying that 5 times fast) I am tracking my words because I want to win (even though I technically already have hahaha).
Loooool, I’d take that win and run with it! 😂 that’s so funny. And yesssss I love it so much. The second the email came in, I ran to the site and scooped one up.
