Mary climbed up the ladder to Heaven. There she reigns “Supreme” among great Motown singers who shared a space for her - such a collection of great singers. They live on through their music that they still share with us.

Motown originally tried to mold Jean into a glamour Soul ful Diana Ross sans the wigs Place in the middle or far right or Left She Was the Main Lead and Gave the Supremes a more Soulful image and a few Solid gems like Stoned Love..Everybody's Got the right to love(Forgotten gem, and Up the Latter). Gordy at this time was more focus on Diana solo career so he could give a hoot.Jean was Jean not Diana"she didn't want to be Diana. she had her on voice style was Stubborn wouldn't listen to Gordy who Found her)and more of a Lead singer. Mary became a co lead but didn't feel comfortable being Lead having spent many.years singing Background and told by Gordy "oh Mary you know you cant sing" (Mary said this in her book Dreamgirls)

The very sound of this song brings me way back to the 70s. I loved this song as a little boy. After this one, I knew they wouldn't miss Diana Ross!

I loved this version of the Supremes, the product lacked in quality between mid 1967 to the end of 1969. Jean Terrell brought back the Supremes A-Game. This extended version is fantastic, loved the pics. P.S. Mary Wilson is triple HOT HOT HOT.

Absolutely MAGNIFICENT remix: the wah-wah guitar in this record (Melvin "Wah-Wah" Watson ?), will LIVE with me 'til I leave this planet. The gorgeous accompanying pics, sadly, recall a Lost Era of divine femininity.

This version of 'Up the ladder to the roof' is enough to make me cry. . .I was only a toddler when this song came out, so, we're talking 5 decades under my belt, and I always manage to sing it during open mic music to practice self control because I will fall apart.

Love this John. La Ross (the ruination of Motown IMO) long gone and the wonderful Jean Terrell on lead. Her performance on Bill, When Are You Coming Back probably the greatest female vocal Motown ever witnessed.
