I’m a steam modeller. All my locomotives are Southern steam models and the layout is Walmington-on-Sea!! Yes, it’s a real location, known as Yealmington in West Sussex.
I forgot to mention my controller. It’s the ANEModel LD 101, which controls both DC and DCC locomotives.

Ground signals are indeed two aspect -- but they don't look like the ones you pictured. Our ground signals are colour-position-light style signals. There would be two horizontal lights for stop (one red, one white) and two angled lights (both white) for proceed. You'll find them available from DCC Concepts amongst other manufacturers.
But ... Ground signals are not used as point indicators, so installing them one per point and driving them directly from what should be mimic LEDs won't look like real signals do unfortunately.
Your not alone when it comes to the wiring Julian, mine is an electricians nightmare under my main control panel, I too wish mine was a bit more like Charlie's. Good to see you have the mind set to work out any wiring issues and put them right, well done on that. Tremendous what a lot of hard work completed, don't worry about the wiring cable ties would help, the next step for me is the hardest ballasting I find it really boring, the best is playing trains and being the fat controller, well I am. Congrats Julian

Nice to see a dear old 9F on Station Road Layout!! It’s one of my favourite locomotives. But I very much prefer steam to diesel!!
My three digital sound locomotives are a T9 in Southern Railway livery, an M7 in Southern Railway livery and a Wainwright C Class. The rest are analogue.

Try as I might, I cannot get my wiring any neater either. The one tip I am taking from Charlie in my next layout is to avoid duck-unders. Like him, want to save the bending down however that also means I won’t have to see my rat’s nest wiring!

The future Arthurs Pass layout sounds interesting, would be good to model during the steam era when electric locos were swapped out for the tunnel.
Looks great and well done. I too have ordered some of the DCCConcepts ground signals. May be worth checking but you would normally only see these in place for signalled moves (obviously) which are usually to and from running lines. Points within a shed or depot will normally be hand operated (then and now) and the moves completed without signalling. Have a great Christmas. Phil
I suspect depot and goodsyard points would be hand operated levers, but I'm breaking with tradition just add another level of interest.

Julian, when it come to wiring systems up it is not surprising that virtually everyone's layouts have somethings incorrectly oriented first time around. We look at the top of the layout and then wire it up from underneath and the same with control panels. Anyway with a bit of fettling and works in the end. Perhaps we should keep a record how many corrections we make each time and take encouragement from that number going down over time (hopefully). We make our models as a one off items whereas things we buy have been through the design, make, modify cycle a number of times before we get them.
I was diagnose with dyslexia as a kid, so that probably doesn't help🙂

Hi Julian. The layout is looking so good. I'm sure you know that DCCconcepts Cobalt iP Digital point motors have a built-in decoder - I'm not sure about some of their other ones (not sure about Tortoise point motors, either). iP Digital point motors will also take care of frog polarity, too.
Julian, you have different skills to Charlie and we need both to progress our modelling. Completing your track work is a major step, congratulations. Have a great Christmas
Hi Julian glad you had a good time in the UK , something that would have tested your grey matter even more ,as you've got a digikeijs control station and maybe an old tablet you could have used the dcc part of the dcc 8sx ,download z21 onto the tablet and used that to control your points at no extra cost and less wiring .............tony
I think that will be a future plan to switch over point control to DCC and having the hardware in place will make that easier. In the meantime, I'm quite happy keeping point control separate from the DCC Controller.
Yep, all things electrical are a mystery to me too. It may be a rat's nest under your table at that point, but at least it all works.
Thanks for the up date Julien. Looking good. With current trackwork it looks like re-coaling tender locos will only be possible in one direction. Is it possible to extend the siding? Cheers from the sideline in Bali.
There are some definite limitations to the depot track plan, mainly due to space restrictions. Re-coaling can only take place from one direction and loco's are required to reverse into the coal siding, and with no turntable, it's not ideal. I'm going on the basis it's a small secondary depot that acts as a backup to much larger depot further down the line.
Even with a turntable it would still be a lot of faffing around in terms of shed operations. I think your explanation of it being a sub-shed is a valid one, and if it fits your loco movements, then job done. Thanks for your reply, and 'Carry on Modelling'.@@StationRoadModelRailway
Just an after thought [I'm not nit picking] I realise there's an incline on the loco road, but could the coaling stage be nudged forward to level with the shed entrance, and maybe the loco road extended a tad. Sorry to divert you from more important matters. Cheers.
