PECKETT POWERED PACIFICS

  • Whether big powerful pacifics or pretty little Pecketts are your thing, then this is the video for you. There's even a famous 9F and a clapped out K1 featured for good measure.
    Neville Grove would have offered a train spotters paradise had it been a real 1:1 location back in steam days. Trains hurtle by if stood on the low level station and thunder overhead whilst light engines clank back and forth between the coal drop and the engine shed which is only a stones throw from Platform 4.
    However, all locos in this video are recent Ready to Run OO Gauge releases by ‪@HornbyModelRailways‬ Each has been weathered in the Neville Grove studio to make these excellent models even better. What engines can you spot?

    Ye Gods I could almost smell it! That clanking of valve gear now sounds horrific yet it was just the way it was then! Amazing audio visual treat. So much to pause and study for any modeller. Brilliant! Best thing on “TV” this Christmas!

      Thanks Steve for watching and for the generous comment. I love the clanking noise of loose motion, sounds almost as good to me as a loco at full regulator. Must have been quite a din at 75mph or would centrifugal forces make it quieter? 🤔 Merry Christmas, I hope you find plenty to watch over the holidays!

    So pleased to have another Neville Grove episode to watch - fabulous! The Pecketts and wagons are great but I love your scruffy A2/3 Sun Castle and especially your filthy and rather menacing A2/2 Wolf of Badenock - both of those hugely impressive machines make the K1 look quite diminutive. Excellent Steve, very enjoyable, thanks for posting.

    The title of Peckett Powered Pacifics had me scratching my head. Surely not a motor swap or similar.
    But as the video mived on i saw the importance of coal delivery in powering the glamour machines.
    Well done as always, but did get me thinking about the limitations of tension lock couplings and rven three link for thst matter. Quite a bit of effort on your part to get realistic shunting movements on your part.

    • @andrewdking
      @andrewdking 7 місяців тому

      @@NEVILLEGROVE Have you had any problems with the B2s. I bought him it as a better loco for his wife's traditional Canadian Christmas Village display. He added a Hornby Santa's Express train set to it. The loco soon started smoking and failed. He sent it back to Hornby UK for investigation. They sent him a replacement. That too duly went up in smoke, so back it went. He was sent another one and so far it's been ok except for slowing on the corners. Probably out of gauge or the six wheels are struggling on 1st radius curves 🤷
      My next video #095 shows it all.

    • @NEVILLEGROVE
      @NEVILLEGROVE  7 місяців тому

      No not had a problem with any of the several Pecketts that have passed through here. Most reliable in my experience. Sorry to hear about your friends problems. Long shot, but it’s not to do with the control system is it / electrical supply? Another thing is that you shouldn’t really run a DC locomotive on digital. If it’s left stationary for more than a few seconds it can go up in smoke as you describe. But digital control seems unlikely if it’s a simple setup for a Christmas display 🤔

    • @andrewdking
      @andrewdking 7 місяців тому

      @@NEVILLEGROVE The Santa's Express train set is a basic dc set. The difference being, its one with a power supply transformer set for US/Canadian mains electricity, not UK/Europe. So the 12V dc to the track shouldn't be any different. I suspect it's the chip inside the loco, all crammed into the small space at the front of the chassis block. The standard of soldering isn't good. There were a lot of emails between my mate and Hornby which I was party to as an intermediary. Their quality department got involved because of the multiple failures. Hopefully, Hornby will learn a bit and tweak the design layout internally to prevent electrical shorts in the future.

      Thanks for watching, well there’s atleast 5 Pacific locos in the video including an A2/2, A2/3, A3, Clan and a Britannia. Some of which are seen going to and from the coaling stage which are replenished by the Peckett hauled coal train. If it’s specifically Gresley Pacific’s you’d like to see in action on the mainline then check out my other video - “The Greatest Gresley Gathering”

  • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
    @ZeldaTheSwordsman 7 місяців тому

    Your modelwork is nice, and the sound editing is top-notch.
    However, the way this is put together is confusing. The beginning sequence, where the A3 is reversing while another large engine passes on the elevated line and "Albert" is entering the station with a coal train, is particularly puzzling and does not match with the sequence that immediately follows; it seems to be an out-of-place duplicate of the same scene later in the video where it actually makes sense in the order of events.

    • @NEVILLEGROVE
      @NEVILLEGROVE  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching and for your observation, and I take your point. The first few clips are like an intro using some highlights that appear later. From 50 seconds the proper main sequence starts with the blue Peckett. Next time I need to think of a way of making it clear that its an intro and separate...
