Using pain and fear to train a dog doesn’t teach them the right behavior, it just teaches them to avoid what causes them pain.

People get dogs and then don’t want to do any of the work it takes. Dogs are incredibly smart. And loyal. They want to be good. They want stability. But they need to be shown how to be. It’s not very difficult to show a dog that it can’t jump on company, or run at the door. Just a few training bits and they will learn. My Labrador puppy when she was younger, was showing signs of resource guarding. She was eating incredibly fast. When I got near, she stiffened up and would stop eating. She’d side-eye me. I knew I had to nip this behavior in the bud before it got worse. Because something like that left unchecked can become very dangerous in the future. So I read up and watched videos. I used positive reinforcement. And little by little she improved. Took a week of continuous work at mealtimes, if that. And now I can take something from her without a worry if she’s gotten something she’s not supposed to have.

Do like Victoria does, and have the person come in, and if the dog jumps and stuff, they turn their back and ignore. And then reward when they get calm. Etc etc. But yea kinda messed up they won’t listen lol. Same with my mom.. she doesn’t like if my dog gets super excited when she sees her cuz she’s big. Man, these people were so unempathetic that I realized I should feel worse for the dogs on this show. I can't believe Victoria asked them about the static mat situation and they were okay with it as is. Like you're shocking another living creature, it's not eliminating all the problem behaviors while creating a new one, and training is obviously more effective. Between that and wanting to rehome a senior dog, I really hope they hated every time they had to go through their side door to get their dogs inside.

We used a shock collar for off leash recall in the woods with our bull mastiff HOWEVER the collar we got had a Beep and Vibrate function and that is the function we used on it we NEVER used the shock setting. The beep vibrate function worked really well for us though so we could break her focus long enough if she suddenly decided to chase something to hear us calling her then come back to us...We tried it on ourselves before we ever put it on the dog and the beep/vibrate setting felt really weird and was sort of startling but it was not at all painful.....so it was a great tool for us and she would actually get excited to wear it because it meant she got to run off leash I think we only had to use it like 2 months before she learned to listen for us calling her and her recall was strong enough we no longer needed it.

    • @durabelle

I'm sure it's just some kind of an average guess even at best, since dog breeds vary so hugely in their ideal weight. Just think of a Chihuahua compared to a huge mastiff for example. One pound extra on a normal Chihuahua is like 10-20% of their ideal body weight, whereas on a 120 lb Bullmastiff or a Great Dane one pound isn't even a 1% increase. So the bigger the dog is supposed to be the more extra weight they can carry before it becomes a serious issue on it's own. If an average dog weighs about one fifth of an average human this rule more or less works.
The 7 year rule kind of still works too, except now we understand that it's not even all through their lives. In the first year dog age much faster than 7 human years, since a 1yo dog is basically an adult by size and hormonally developed too, so more like a 20yo human. Then it slows down for many years, but towards the end of their life span they seem to age faster again. A 10yo dog on average in healthy breeds is pretty close to a 70yo person, still capable of a lot but basically a pensioner. A 15yo is close to a 100yo human, definitely close to an end and the majority has passed by then.

Isn't bloat deadly and needs to be rushed to the vet because its the stomach knotted or something like that? can someone explain that? I am shocked that they don't use shock collars with shock collars to stop the barking or just muzzle them given how chill they are with using a static mat at the door. also do they make shock mats just for dogs or did they just repurpose a shock mat? i ask because i've never heard of a mat for dogs like that in my life personally. shock collars i've heard of etc but never a mat for the very reasons the show calls out with them just learning to jump over it at times etc.

I wish they had the Dexil's Limited DO NOT PET dog collars/harnesses back then as they'd be great for that one dog who needed to not be pet. I don't think they existed then. I've seen them on a few of the dogs in the newest episodes thankfully and that was before Victoria arrived, very happy to see proactive owners. I also wish she did what she did with the st. Banard in the new series with a dog pool so the dog could still get wet etc but not worry about drowning etc.

Bloat is common in large breeds. It’s from drinking or eating too quickly.

    • @Bridgetowalk
      @Bridgetowalk 10 місяців тому +1

@@weedlebunzoften times running around and playing, the panting action going, after eating/drinking a full meal… that gets the most common scenario for bloating to occur. That’s why it’s important to wait an hour after feeding them before letting them be rambunctious/exercise.

I wasn't going to post this but I changed my mind as it may help others, to make there minds to stop there dogs jumping in a pool when there are young one's in the pool. My two GSD's would do this with my Granddaughters but never hurt them. My youngest of 4 years of age worked out how to open the gate to the pool, the doors to the garden was open and my two boys was just laying in the lounge, she fell in but because of the distance from the pool to the house no one heard it, it wasn't till my boys barking thought what are they up to. To come around form were i was working down the side of the house to see both of them in the pool, my first thought was one of my boys was really good at opening doors and gates. Went to get them out to find one had hold of her hair the other was in front of her, with out a thought fully clothed just ran jumped in grabbed her, those two boys didn't give up even when getting to the stairs, they just kept on barking and had to show them she was ok. You here stories like this all the time in the dog world and you think yed ok there may be some truth to it. But that is the day I truly believe what dogs can do. RIP Luca and Auggie thank you for all the good times we shared but above all saving our little grandmother .

To keep a lab out of water is torture!
    It's their 'natural habitat'!
Labs LOVE water, swimming is what they're bred to do!
You just need to show and teach Guiness to go into the pool safely on leash over the stairs, the same way he comes out.
    (Cesar often does it)
It could be used for him to loose steam, to loose the weight properly, even for physical therapy...
What these owners did was just pure madness and lazyness and blaming the animals, not themselves for not training them!
    It's a shame.
And I'm afraid the one of the women really should check in with her dermatologist- I fear for her to get skin cancer the way her face looks, burned from the sun.
I don't get it why people still don't protect their skin safely.
