Yunchan performed all of Chopin’s etudes at this concert, and for the encore, he played four more pieces, all by Chopin, in tribute to him. At 19 years old, with his final encore, he played etude 25-1 once again, which he had performed earlier in the main concert. It felt as if he was making a promise to the audience that he would never lose the pure heart with which he began. There were countless curtain calls, and later I heard that there were 17 in total. The audience couldn’t let Yunchan go, and during the final curtain call, he placed his right hand over his heart to express his gratitude.
