#FixOrFlop - Наука та технологія
Only one episode to go! Thanks for watching!
Only one for S4 you mean?
@@Zebra_Paw S4 E20
i had that same asrock board, mine would do like a half power off like the system was still completely running but no display and no input what so ever, seems asrocks lower end entry boards tend to have quite a few issues
Honestly you couldn't have done anything differently. Sadly if you can't replicate the problem then you can't fix said problem. And to give the owner a new cooler was nice. Something you didn't have to do. I think it was the loose cables.
Love them all! :) Also, what brush are you using to clean pins?
The loose power cables could totally have caused the issue. And moving the PC around in a car could have moved them enough to work fine with you.
exactly what i was going to say
Exactly
It’s possible, but it’s also possible that the person intentionally unplugged it
@@itsallon3 Go to all that trouble just to have Gregg find the loose plugs and give it back as delivered? Fewer logical jumps are required for it just to be a mistake- maybe they unplugged all those cables when they upgraded the GPU and they were never clipped (because you have to press really hard) and slowly worked loose.
Yes exactly, my first thought also. Transport made them go from totally loose to only slightly loose.👍
Greg! I saw that identical issue with a 2700x when I didn't have the 4-pin in all the way. I think that loose cable was probably it.
That kind of issue tends to be misconnections. For me at least, so far. Somewhat even weird "building PC is like Legos" People proceed to put RBG connectors to fan ports or smth similiar.
Maybe he just didn't include it in the video, but I was curious what would have happened if you tried to power it on without it in at all.
I recon your right and transporting the rig to Greg re made the connection again so it appeared to be stable.
I had this exact issue few weeks back when I move my 7900X build from an old PC case to a new one along with a new contact frame. I've check all the connections were correctly plugged but still couldn't boot until I reinstalled the CPU, cpu cooler and contact frame.
I swear it was correctly installed the first time but for some reason it isn't?
@@hukesama8389One of the advantages of PGA sockets (like AM4) is that they don't require high even pressure. LGA on the other hand requires even pressure, otherwise some pins might not be making perfect contact resulting in anomalies. This can happen from both the contact frame not providing even pressure, and from the CPU cooler not being tightened evenly on all sides. That could very well have been it.
I like the idea of fixing with minimal replacement as that's what we want as a user in repair. Cheapest option.
Totally agree that's what makes it entertaining. I've seen other videos on other channels where they start off as a repair attempt and end up building a whole new pc way more expensive than the original one. That's no fun.
And also, replacing his case is something he wouldn't want, necessarily, as he CHOSE that case. It's up to him to think what case he wants to replace it as and when.
@@Cornelius87 fair. Though when the PC was in a fire lke Gamers Nexus when they still saved most of it? Pretty incredible.
@@ukeleleEric yes! True. Just because the channel partner of UA-cam (wanted to day owner, but with UA-cam you do not own your channel), his name is Greg right? That would have been easier.
Just because he does work for free doesn't mean to stop listening to the customer. Super important because I absolutely love these shows!
This specific situation must be SO FRUSTRATING, but for a viewer like me who does her own troubleshooting and repairs, it helps. Our minds often jump to the worst case scenario, and sometimes it's something as simple as a loose cable. Personally, I find the episodes where it's just something small or simple that causes the issue to be the most beneficial because it reminds me to check and double-check before I start ripping things out. Definitely not a flop - keep up the good work!
Oh, and I was at Micro Center recently and had the pleasure of working with Aaron from one of your videos - you're right, he's a really cool guy!
Aaron is awesome! Thanks for watching!
And sometimes we see a loose cable, correct it and call it good when that wasn't really the problem with the crashing. It is called 'confirmation bias'. Greg only fixed half the issue.
Once, i needed to disassemble my pc, when i reassembled i had put the reset switch on the power btn jumper, and i panicked as i pressed the power button and the pc didn't turn on, i brought the pc to a friend and he pointed out and connected the front io properly, fixed the issue and i immediately got relieved hahaha
I work in the Building Automation Sector (HVAC computerized control systems) in the NYC area. Finding loose connections burns my keester. Laziness. Wire in, tug and move on. Whether it is a terminal, spade, butt splice or connector.
Well done Greg. Another great FoF video.
A Bios update alone would probably help CPU temps, I had the same cpu and it ran unreasonably hot until I updated to the latest Bios.
my guess is that it was running it at a higher voltage than necessary
Thats not really how it works
@@yotoprules9361like he overclocked or as the OP was saying it was the bios that had it configured to run higher voltage? Just asking because I have 3700x on an original build date bios of July 2020. No issues except a fan curve that randomly goes to jet speeds even if temps are fine. Whenever under full load. Like it goes from 60c 50%fans to 61c 100%fans. I’ve looked everywhere and don’t know if there’s some app in background I can’t find or something. No unusual programs running when I check hwinfo. Just an annoying inconvenience more than anything
@@four_20hitman___97 Most motherboards allow you to set a fan curve in the bios. You could try that maybe.
@@four_20hitman___97 for Ryzen, set the fan ramp up/down time higher. This will fix the fans suddenly spinning up. Had the exact same issue myself. You can also try a custom fan curve in the bios
Sweet, a new FoF video. I am really enjoying this series.
I greatly appreciate it!
coming from an auto tech and pc enthusiast, not fully seats wires/plugs can cause said issues. sometimes it works fine, other times it will leave you scratching your head trying to figure out what the problem is. i hope everything is good on the owners end now and if there is an issue other than the pc itself, he has it straightened out. also thanks for another great video. i do enjoy watching them.
Much appreciated!
Glad you caught the power supply connectors, but 550w is a bit on the low side for that graphics card. If they are going to upgrade the case in future they should also upgrade the power supply, especially since it could be a loose piece of solder in it causing the short seen in the submitted video.
if I can run a 5950x and a rtx 3090 on a 600W psu, this Psu is plenty. And I know for a fact that psu is plenty. the max draw on that system is probably about 420 watts max.
people are being paranoid about PSUs these days. I have the same CPU and a 3070 Ti which draws quite a bit more power than the 3070, and the system doesn't go above 450W at the wall, that's before PSU losses, so the output power is probably just over 400W. But scaring people into thinking they need more powerful PSUs makes the manufacturers a lot of money, so they won't tell you how much you actually need.
It's a bit low on the capacity, and it's a total garbage brand. While this unit is C-tier, a majority of Gamdias' products are absolute cheap junk that I would avoid. Not quite on the level of Gamemax or Aresgame, but bad nonetheless.
@@Alvin853. It’s kind of weird as the paranoia ebbs and flows. One year techtubers are recommending 1000w, the next year they say 750w is overkill… for the same amount of power consumption.
Personally, I think it’s a combination of quality of PSU and power draw.
@@marxman6896 Gamdias Kratos M1 is E tier unit lol, at least according to Cultist's latest tier list. IMHO owner better start looking for better replacement.
Probably one of my favorite series to watch on UA-cam, I feel like I learn more watching different situations happening with all these rigs!😊
The power on and off could have been OCP kicking in. Which from memory they can reset and let you power back on after an interval of time. So may have been why it powered on for Greg. The loose cables in my eyes were probably the cause of original power issues but my guess is something triggered OCP which then was reset by the time Greg go it.
This is something I think needs an entire video made about. I have ran into this exact thing two times on 2 different PCs and had no idea until I read your comment.
@@KRASHPROJECTI saw this first in a JayzTwoCents video where they were upgrading Nick or Phil's pc and thought they killed a motherboard and even got a replacement. Turned out ocp had kicked in and then made it look like a dead board.
Another great fix or flop episode. I’m glad you still posted it. It could really help someone experiencing similar symptoms. It gives novices more things to consider that they may not think to check.
I always build/repair my own PCs. So much of what you do is nothing new to me. HOWEVER! I still enjoy watching them because there is a chance I may learn something new. Keep up the great work!😊
And for me it's so fun to see if I can solve it before Greg can. Or if my initial off-the-cuff diagnosis is correct. Which it rarely is because these puzzles can get quite complicated with multiple causes sometimes.
100% one of my favorite things to watch on youtube. Love the way you give back to the community even if its small upgrades or heck even no upgrade at all but just help give the knowledge to help fix someones broken system. Keep up the great content and i just wanna say Thank you for doing what you do for everyone here.
I appreciate your candid attitude even when not being able to pinpoint the shut down issue. Your theories that it could be a bad power cord or surge protector are plausible. Even more possible is that dangling 4 pin cpu plug that was never plugged in completely for the intermittent shutdowns. I agree that shoving everything into a micro case is not very nice for temps.
I only recently discovered your channel and have watched several of your sleuthing efforts. It's really nice to see your professional approach to troubleshooting with such an enthusiastic informatiove verbal delivery to what is happening. Thanks very much for sharing it with me and so many others.
Greetings from Brazil. I've been following the FoF and PCDC since the beginning and they've helped me with several projects. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Also having a 550W PSU in that rig with those specs is coming awfully close to the high end of the suggested wattage for all the components he is running. I would have upgraded that PSU to at least a 650W so that all components are getting the necessary power especially when the owner is doing some heavy gaming.
I will upgrade PSU to 750W minimum.
As most comments suggest people say it's connection related but because user displayed it being turned on and off instantly at some point in the video it would indicate heat issue after some extensive use, which component is overheating though? Not sure why this channel doesn't invest in psu tester and check temps as well on psu, just focus on checking CPU and GPU, get a thermal camera? It's a literally swapping parts channel so it's at least he could do. I like his personality and videos but the troubleshooting is always so mid... "oh the cpu was bad so I swapped it" why don't you just try to repair it?
@@majjjk exactly
@majjjk He has an expensive psu tester seen being used on this channel on a regular basis, as to heat explain where the heat is being generated? When the system not on for more than a second? It's power related my personal opinion loose connection or home power strip, n as electronics engineer doing component level testing and repair, I'm pretty sure I'm on the money . As to swapping out parts that's the economics of fixing a pc , sure on high end item such as 40 series card I'll reball gpu, diagnose memory, but the hours to fault find a motherboard fault is just uneconomical for the end user when replacing motherboard would be cheaper for them. That said when I have spare time I regularly fully repair donor boards , and nearly 90% successfully but I wouldn't re sell as sure as it'll come back with something else, I just use em in office as test rigs.
I always look forward to these fix or flop videos. I find them incredibly relaxing
Greg here fixing my fix or flop withdrawal. Definitely not a flop.
what i might have tried is to pull the 4pin power cable that was loose and see if it causes the initial issue.
great job!
Damn good looking PC! Love a compact build!
Agreed
Same
Same here
Yes, it is a nice-looking build -- now that the LED strip isn't randomly floating past the window. It might have fallen during transport.
Thanks for your continued service and support of the computer community. Major thumbs up. May you be blessed and have a wonderful year and new year.
Thanks for the continued support!
Great episode as usual! Each episode really builds my confidence in trying to solve technical issues
How is a PC crashing *twice a day* not a deal breaker, lol
My thoughts exactly... this dude was roughing it.
Some of us used to game on consols that took cartridges (or god forbid even casette tapes!), they would lock up and fail to load games probably 50% of the time on a bad day. You litterally just had to breath on the cartridges and they would lock up, and the cassettes would constantly missread a bit, and you'd have to reset the machine, rewind the entire tape, and try again lol. 2 crashes a day is pure luxury to some folks who remeber them days haha.
Not to mention that houses back then were like only 3x the cost of a modern day top tier prebuilt. Although I' d still at least try to fix it tbf. 😅
for real....
Hey did you test the power supply?? Could it have been a combination of improper connection and a hinky power supply?? Just wondering.
Not sure the case would make a huge difference, that chip is probably badly binned as you said. A few degrees from an airflow case is still gonna be roughly 85c on average.
The ever elusive atx ~click~ though lol...
Running 4 sticks of ram on those AMD CPU's makes them run slightly hotter than just using 2 sticks, I have a rig with the same CPU and AMD cooler, and 2 sticks (32Gig total) RAM. Hits 81C under full load.
I watch your channel like all PC build channels on UA-cam. I in fact had a similar business here in the Dakotas 15-20 years back. I moved 100% to software development in 2008. So, the things you do are same old stuff I know all too well, but what attracts me to keep enjoying your content is your genuine love for the craft and also that you don't charge those people. I have to pace myself I have something like 10 working computers at any given time and I tend to buy a little too much. Anyway keep on keeping on bud!
my favourite series on UA-cam, please continue making these fix or flop videos
keep up the good work , looking forward to see more of your work mate. wishing you all the best for the coming new year .
I love to watch your videos, Greg; you are so candid and honest. Keep up the excellent work. Happy new year.
Your Fix or Flop and PCDC series made me confident in disassembling my PC's parts more and tinker with them. As long as you know the precautions in tinkering your PC's parts, you're doing good. Also, it helps me troubleshoot other people's rig more efficiently. Thank you, Greg!
Absolutely love these videos Greg! I hope you love making them keep them coming!
nothing i love more than to watch a new upload at my job as helpdesk xD Thanks Greg!
I'm watching you couple of years already, you are the reason to build my PC ,i love this series Greg ,keep it up and best regards 🙏
Interesting, educational and entertaining video as usual! Also really love your personality, honesty and integrity Greg. Massive thanks for all videos this year and really looking forward to 2024! :)
Happy new year Greg! Thank you for the knowledge and skills that you have shared with us! Please keep doing amazing contents!
Built a computer for myself and a friend of mine using what i learned from you over the years. thank you, and a happy new year.
AWESOME JOB GREG. Have learnt so much watching these!
Gotta say, your camera and video quality is just impeccable! Enjoyed this one as well! Well done sir!
Thanks for all of your videos and I want to wish you and yours a joyful and prosperous New Year.
happy new year and i love the fix or flop series
Found this series a few months ago. It has quickly become one of my favorite tech series
That blinking green light would drive me insane!
Always love your fix or flop videos. Keep up the series!! :) Happy New Year.
Thank you for all the help you done for the to help. Because of the way you troubleshoot and explanations, I was able to fix my pc.
Good video to highlight the importance of checking all cables as part of running diagnostics.
I love these so much!! I have become a very good troubleshooter of problems with PC's. Your videos have helped a lot. Thanks for posting these. 10/10
FoF is my favorite PC hardware-related series ever! Thanks Greg for keeping it up! :)
Fix or flop is my favorite thing about your page. Thanks Greg!
A nice one to tie off the year. Have a fabulous 2024, Greg!
Enjoyed this fix or flop - keep em coming Greg.
trying to learn more about computers appreciate the series man!
Hi Greg! I want to thank you for these wonderful videos! I am very much into building computers but have trouble diagnosing problems and your videos have really taught me a lot when it comes to this so thank you again!
Always love your content! Can't wait for your 1M subs thank you video to come in 2024!
I learn something every time I see a fix or flop! that's why I keep watching. Keep up what you are doing.
I love this series so much, it never gets old
I love this series!! Thanks Greg
Fav tech series on this website by far!
Happy New Year to everyone. Greg, thank you for another fun year of videos.
Gonna get my coffee and watch this new episode! Advance Happy New Year to you, Greg and to your fam!
Really appreciate the troubleshooting steps! Look forward to your new videos in 2024! HNY!
I think fix or flop is thee best youtube tech videos on youtube, as this helps so many out there in to helping them fix their own systems, this education is priceless. looking forward to many more and i think more compaines should sponsor these videos...
Your videos disappeared from my feed, and popped up a few days ago. So glad they did. Been going video by video trying to catch up. Love the fix or flop series.
The first thing you always check are the connectors from the mains cable on the case to the smaller cable on the motherboard. I had an instance recently of the power in the kitchen kept cutting out, I thought it might have been a faulty kettle or toaster. When I checked the fuseboard the MCB wasn't clamped onto the busbar. I checked all the other MCB's for similar problem and found an additional one. I re-seated the two mcb's and now everything is fine. Rule out the obvious.
Great video as always, keep it up I really enjoy this type of content.
I really enjoy this playlist. Keep up the good work.
Without the issue replicating with Greg, he just shows how much he loves his customers as he gives free PC components (like the cooler) away for free!
i like the fact that you walk through your thoughts as you try to fix the pc.
once again an amazing video, thank for all your content and have a great new year, greetings from Denmark :D
I always appreciate your honesty.
As a former bench tech, i can say that your methods are good and bring back lots of memories. Keep up the great work.
Really appreciate these videos. Could learn so much.
Extremely possible that the loose cables (both the 4 pin and the GPU 6 pin) were the culprit. System auto shutting off to protect itself. Always great to see the methods of which you go through for troubleshooting a variety of issues. It has been very helpful as a recent graduate in both IT and InfoSec, to add to my own toolbox of points of contention when troubleshooting any issues with a system. Keep up the great work.
I enjoy trouble shooting the problems as you address them and I am glad you mentioned dirty power or a dying surge protector. I feel I am learning so much from watching your videos. Great stuff.
I ran my own PC repair business. If I can't figure out what the root problem is (just like in this video) there is no charge. I'm glad content is being put uploaded for people to at the very least try to repair their own stuff.
You did the best you could! Glad you went through with this video anyway, still educational!
Thanks for learning with us
great job you went above and beyond replacing the cooler. Good catch seeing the 24-pin was loose I probably wouldn't have caught that after seeing the computer booted up fine.
Another great fix or flop! I agree, that video card is too close to the power supply for adequate airflow. I would definitely be upgrading cases on that rig.
I really enjoy these videos. They've got a great formula; it's a mystery and educational. I have learned a lot from these videos and I'm at a point where I can make guesses then usually be wrong but that's part of the fun.
As for what I would have done, probably the same. If an issue isn't repeatable, it's not an issue and it was very kind of you to go the extra mile and put in a better cooler.
Well, greg. We shall always enjoy these episodes, you always post here perfectly in the UK times as I'm typically getting ready to chill and watch some UA-cam haha. But thanks to you, I've been doing PC repairs and they've been quite easg because of the things I've learnt from the playlist, thanks!
Your great guy helping people with computer issues.
Great video as always! Learning every day.
Love the Fix or Flop vids. Thanks for the discount code for my Windows key.
Thanks for all the videos! Any update on that amazing home? 😅
Well, Greg, I think you should just give the man a whole new computer. Just kidding, I feel like you are doing a great job, for all of us that watch, and for those who get their computers fixed for free. Keep up the good work.
Hey Greg love the videos and thank you for all the knowledge. I've learned a lot from your videos Sucks I'm not in the Orlando/Florida area, I have my old gaming pc that I gave to my kids (7 and 9) and it gave out on me about 6 months ago. Keep up the great content, much love from MN.
awesome educational content, keep it up greg!
Cool video. Always fun to watch this series.
thats a tough one when you get the old mechanics dilemma of the thing just working when you go to fix it, also i love the bequiet sponsor the products always look so classy and maybe a bit subdued but in a good way
That power cable could be easily the issue. Maybe with transport it moved a little bit and made a little more contact with the mobo, and thats all. Im not english speaker, dont understand it well, but i really enjoy this fix or flop series, are really fun and educative. Thanks for your time and happy new year!
I think this was a solid plan of attack. I would bet the problem is on his end---something input (AC power) or output (cables or tv) related. And yeah....with those CPU temps, replacing the stock cooler is a no-brainer
happy new year Greg
Well done, Greg, a worthy free upgrade and problem solved easily if there ever was one.
Great job Greg!!! Awesome video, as always!!
Every bit of information on issues help.
I think you did a fantastic job given the symptoms you were presented with. The loose wires itself could have been the issue with flickering on and off. I have seen that before with troubleshooting computers when i worked in a computer store.
My first thought was power supply issue maybe, it's amazing to see something as small as a slightly wonky plug can cause so many problems. Honesty is why I come here to watch you Greg, don't stop with that. I know there's always something we can learn from failures and successes.
hey Greg, thanks for the videos! keep up the great work!
Did you try running both tests at the same time? maybe the problem is related to power and it's only triggered by having both cpu and gpu drawing power at the same time.
Even if there is no definitive outcome I still look at your uploads as a good learning tool. I have used your diagnostic steps on builds to find problems myself. As for this one, 2 things concern me, airflow and a 550W power supply. Thanks for the uploads 👍😁
Happy New Year to you and family.
