    We have a pretty similar setup except mine is messy and no wire management, yours looks perfect. I have 27" 310 w/ original stand, 14"/20" Sony PVM + 65" LG OLED with all the consoles except Gamecube and PC Engine. Building the setup is the most fun part! The 310's rule though, so many inputs and the picture and sound are stunning.

    Great setup. I put together my setup this past summer. Moved out from my parents house at the beginning of the summer. It was a long journey having to get all the furniture and put it all together but it's worth the payoff seeing it all organized and all the titles you've collected over the years be easily displayed. I know you must be proud of your setup as well.

      I have the analog IO board on my MiSTer which outputs YPbPr to the CRT. It also connects to the OLED panel via HDMI. This is nice for several of the vertically oriented arcade games which would display sideways on the CRT or the computer cores with the oddball resolutions and refresh rates that my CRT doesn’t support.

    how often do flat tvs distort nes images? I hear conflicting things. I hear some crts from mid 2000s are often digital and while great for consoles with component from ps2 era apparently artifacts can still be introduced to older 90s games similar to a modern lcd. I want a tv with s video for n64 and would like my nes hooked up to it.

    • @mikegreiling
      @mikegreiling  Рік тому

      That is a myth. There is nothing inherently different about flat CRTs apart from the fact that the glass is flat and they have a more complicated deflection circuit to compensate for the geometry distortion. They handle the inputs just the same as a curved CRT.
      That said, some late model CRT TVs used digital signal processing which *does* introduce combing artifacts in 240p images. It depends on the features of the TV, not the curve of the glass. If a TV supports 480p or 720p or 1080i, it is probably one you want to stay away from because it will attempt to upscale 240p and 480i to the tube’s native resolution and it will do a very bad job of it. That is where the confusion lies.

    What is that long cabinet shelf where you keep modern stuff called?

    • @mikegreiling
      @mikegreiling  3 роки тому +1

      The long shelf where I house my modern consoles is a black-brown BESTÅ TV unit. I purchased the extra shelves and legs separately.
      The KALLAX shelf as I mentioned is the result of mixing a 3x3 and a 2x2 configuration into two 3x2 shelves. They sell the glass shelves and drawer inserts separately.
      Since the KALLAX doesn’t come with a back board, I purchased some Elmers foam boards from a craft store and cut them to size, then drilled holes at measured locations to feed cables through. It was a chore, but it came out looking very clean.

    • @mikegreiling
      @mikegreiling  2 роки тому +1

      The CRT on the top of the shelf is an 8” Sony PVM that I picked up at a gaming swap-meet early this year. I mostly use it to bench test arcade PCBs. The bigger set is a 27” fv310 Trinitron. It is one of the better consumer sets you can buy (if you can find one). They come in 32” and 36” sizes also, but I have heard the bigger sets tend to have geometry issues.

    • @mikegreiling
      @mikegreiling  2 роки тому

      no exhaust fan, but there is plenty of ventilation in the back of the cabinet. the drawers don’t have anything in them that would generate much heat, just the power bricks and the component switcher and usually I only have one console on at a time so I’m not terribly worried about those power bricks.

      @Mike Greiling Bob with retro rgb does say that in a side by side comparison RGB looks better. Still he recommends not to discharge 32” crt that has component already just to get rgb. If someone does then that would be awesome.

    • @mikegreiling
      @mikegreiling  3 роки тому +3

      @@johndee759 I'm sure that largely depends on the set and how well it decodes YPbPr. Some may be better than others. "Theoretically" YPbPr is a lossless conversion to and from RGB, it's just a different way of representing the same signal. If you watch some of Bob's old "retro roundtable" videos, Ste from HD Retrovision and Zack (a.k.a."Voultar") talk at length about it.
