Just got me a 32” kv-32fs120 and loving it! Original owner and he even gave me the remote and a owners manual. The tv has 0 scratches anywhere and in perfect condition. It’s like the guy never moved it but they sold it to me for $20 as long as I hauled it away.
Just got one of these bad boys for free yeserday. Was at the bottle depot, and these guys walked by with a few sony crts on a big dolly and they were going to scrap them. Saved one and it was manufactured in january 2006.
I just got one free. Great condition, the prior owner was going to recycle it if I hadn’t grabbed it. Even came with the manual and remote in great condition
I own both a 20FV300 and a 20L5, the FV300 is very close with a RGB to Comp transcoder. It's impressive how good the late model WEGA's became before they stopped making them.
I'm a big fan of the wega models. Lately I've been interested in why some models are sharper than others for example I had a 32fv300 that was much sharper than my friend's 24fv300 and I did a video comparing a fs12 to a fv15. I think the newer wegas are sharper (around 2005). Maybe they were made better or maybe they have a fresher tube. Maybe both. I don't know
I've been searching for one of these and your video is the one that reminded me I'm one of those people that can hear the super high pitched noise that comes out of these tvs. I used to work in Best Buy back in 2000 and 2001 in High School, in the Digital Imaging department selling camcorders and DVCams. I got used to it, but it drove me nuts for a while hearing all the high pitched noise from the tv's. Also I remember freaking my family out because I could tell them when the tv turned on when I was outside the house. They didn't believe me and I knocked on the front door every time they did lol. Good times!
Just got this exact model and I had completely forgot about this noise… now after a couple days I can tune it out, but even a couple rooms away or outside my window i can tell that it’s on
@riggel8804 All crts emit that noise unfortunately bu it's worth getting to play light gun games! When I worked at best buy in 2001, selling cameras, which was right next the tv department, now that was somewhat of a hell for me.
Raising the contrast and brightness fixed the warped edges and bad convergence on my TV. After that try running the TV everyday for as long as you can. The capacitors can actually correct internally while being run.
We had two of these. A 32” and a smaller one. These things were HUGE esp the 32” one. But we had great memories, especially of us playing our PS2s. The picture quality was great
I've been keeping an eye out for an old CRT that works. No luck. Just found a 09 Toshiba 19 inch that my ps2 looks good on. Supports progressive scan. Actually in the middle of a new game of re4. Looks great!
If you have the remote for this TV you can access the service menu. It will allow you access to a lot more settings to adjust the picture. Press "DISPLAY", then "5", then "VOLUME UP", finally press power to turn the set on. You will see the service menu overlaid as green text.
The service menu on WEGAs is really useful. My favorite feature is the tilt correction. I think it's NOTC in the menu...something like that. I've never had to yoke adjust a Wega. EDIT: it's not NOTC it's TROT
I have a Sony trinitron wega xbr hdcrt I know people shit on them it has tilt and vert. Correction in the regular user menu grant it the adjustment isn’t that massive but it’s nice that they gives you that any wega tv is notorious for bad geometry including mine
The TV on the right looks richer in color, better contrast. There's a setting in the service menu of my Trinitron that I turn off called DCOL (Dynamic Color). Sometimes I think it looks better with it left on, as it is by default, but I think it's more accurate turned to 0 (off).
Have had mine for around 8 years now and it has been great. Did side by side comparison with the 14" PVM I had at the time and ended up selling the PVM because I can't be hunched over a small screen like that anymore. Have most of the consoles going through a gcompsw and using HDretrovision cables for the RGB modded/output consoles. The geometry on mine isn't too bad, just a small wave at the bottom center you can see in text box outlines or banners, but it doesn't pull your attention away during gameplay.
@@riggel8804 Maybe one of these days I will open it up to give it a clean and do that. Luckily it isn't enough to bother me, I'd have to point it out to someone not looking for it., luckily. Not sure if it is worth doing any preventative cap swaps on it. Maybe I'll be more inclined to do it after I fix the 20" Samsung I took while clearing out my parents' house. It has RGB lines at the top of it, assuming it was a cap issue but need to figure that out or give it away to someone that will want to fix and use it and not scrap it.
The 20” FS100 is the best size for the 100 series. Flat top, component, and it has much better geometry. I still have my KV20FS100 after all these years and its one of my favorite
I own the immediate predecessor the KV-27FS100L which lacks the clear edge and a few other enhancements the 120 has. I think they both have some geometry issues which are only noticeable on older retro games. For some weird reason the geometry is slightly better in the 100L than the 120 but it can never be perfect with flat crts… just adjust in the service menu to make it “less shitty”
i remember we use to have these at my aunts house i wanted to take it home so badly because i didnt have a tv in my room and i always dreamed of having one and then in 2020 of august i got a brand new awesome tv but i really want one of these for retro gaming i dont know where to find them
Need to tighten up your vhold on the sony27” def has significant shake. Can tell even when the game is running. I can still sorta tell w mine even when the vholds screw is tighten to perfection but only when i’m sitting on like a loading screen not when the games actually running
Sometimes you can get by with just the settings in the service menu but that's not what I do. If a tv needs a geometry adjustment I open it, get my magnets and a screwdriver. There are pots on the neckboard that correct for geometry. I adjust those as well as use the service mode adjustments and I use magnets. Sometimes a magnet does the trick. Sometimes it's a menu correction. Sometimes it's a pot adjustment. Sometimes it's all three.
Scored the 36 inch version of this today at a retro game shop went in for a game left with the tv for 90 bucks so a little steep but well worth it to play the n64 and Xbox
my new trinitron doesnt have a flyback transformer noise, i thought i went deaf somehow but i decided to call my friend to come over and take a listen and he has really good hearing but he only heard a slight 50hz humming noise
Been watching for a while and finally subbed today! Love watching your videos on these consumer sets. I just picked up a 32” D series made in late 2004 today. I know 32” is pointless for you, but it’s the sweet spot size for me. I can move it around by myself without breaking my back. Came from the original owner with remote and manual. Almost perfect geometry after some service menu adjustments minus some squiggles right at the top of the grid. Got the inside cleaned out and flyback manually adjusted. How do you go about calibrating color on these sets? The basic color adjustments aren’t getting me there. Got a bit of a green hue that looks like poop. Looks like r/g/b cut in the service menu is what I have available to adjust but it seems like I could screw it up pretty easily messing with those. Any advice specific to jvc d series sets is appreciated! Peace man
I've got 2 32 Ds that I roll out to the backyard and game on in the summer. I love those sets. I remember my d series looks green in the ntsc color mode. so I switch out of that mode. I have a video on crt color corection you could check out. If that doesn't work then you are going to have to do a white balance adjustment. They make special tools for like 100$ that attach to the glass of your tube to help you make the adjustments. Or you could just use a checkerboard pattern and do it by eye...Should be R, G and B "drive" settings in the service menu as well.
Please help me, I haven't been able to do anything for a month. I connect the Sony Trinitron KV-21T1R Sega Genesis RGB TV to my image is shifted to the left, I can enter the service menu, but no matter how I try, I can't use any buttons to center the image. Why can't I change the values? Help please
Hey I have the 24" of this set. Got it for my father last year. Mine only has composite and svideo though. They're very nice tvs. P.s. Holy shit it's called Vega? this is now considered educational content.
@@riggel8804 it makes more sense for tv and movies on a crt, because it hides vertical overscan or convergence issues in the corner… for videogames, thats not really an option as most tvs ive seen dont allow an option in the menu to toggle ratios unless it’s something within the game itself, but i use it sometimes when i watch local tv via converter box
i found this tv in the trash with 0 scratch and its a model from 2005 and i use it for gaming (5th gen to 7th gen console) and watching movies in my room
I had a 26 ilo crt (Walmart tv) then found a toshiba crt with all the connections even a hdmi at the dump.. 2 weeks later I found a 32 sony trinitron, had to replace the power wire but it works perfect 👌
Agreed 100%. Total crapshoot on the flatscreen geometry. The 27FS120 I had was the best I'd seen, with a minor wave at the bottom. Then the flyback blew out. LOL
Thanks for checking out my video. Damn dude. Good luck finding a new flyback. You probably could just harvest one off another TV. Or just grab another TV. They are still out there.
@@robbystrange4772 cool. I tried to do a video on geometry correction but it turned out shitty. Correcting geometry is a bit of an art and I'm really not particularly skilled at it. But I can get the job done with enough time and effort.
Oh cool! I really liked A KV-24FS120 I had for a bit. Had to sell it because 12 tubes is too much. 😅. Wish I kept it 'cause it has a unique shell compared to larger FS120s. How do you still dig consumer sets after having a freaking 900 TVL BVM?
I actually started with pvms and bvms and have moved on to consumer sets. I game more on consumer sets than my bvm because I prefer a large screen but I do come back to the bvm from time to time. 900tvl tubes have a very unique and cool look to them.
Just got a KV-32FS120. Its in decent condition, needs cleaning and some adjustments. Unfortunately theres a scratch in the glass but its not noticeable with video playing. Been sitting in someone's garage and I'm determined to give it new life as a retro gaming setup, so I need to calibrate it to fix convergence and geometry issues. Never opened up a CRT before so I'm a bit scared.
I got two Crts and this model the kv27fs120 the display is more glossy and blacks are more pure I noticed compared to my other kv27fs12 model which is from year 2000
Probably because the 120 has less hours on it. I have both tvs as well and my situation is the opposite. my 12 outperforms my 120 in colors and sharpness. Which of your 2 TVs is sharper?
@@riggel8804 my fs12 is sharper but is different from the 120 the is more glossy colours but the screen is off center on the 12 not sure how to fix it but I decided to keep both, I know they will be hard to come by one day

How are you liking the XBR? I recently got rid of my 32FS100 in favor of a 36XBR250. It's hard to find much info on the XBR, but so far I'm loving it. The case looks so much better too IMO. Got it from original owner who said it just sat in the basement since 2005 so fairly fresh tube. Came with the Sony stand as well.
I love my xbr200. It's my favorite tv. The build aesthetic is good. It's sharper than my other consumer sets and it has low hours so the colors still look good.
I've got a Frankenstein set I fuk around with. It's not a bad idea to have a experimental tv. And you never know I picked up a fv16 that i thought was crap and it turns out to be my favorite wega.
Nice!... what's your opnion on the 36xbr800....made in 2002. I am getting one for 50 bucks in excellent working condition. Should i bite the bullet?. U ROCK!🤘
Thanks! No. I do not recommend picking up that tv. It is a high definition crt. They have lots of input lag and no scanlines. They upscale 240p content to 480i. You would be better off with a modern lcd screen and an upscaler. There are people that like those tvs for hd content like xbox and dreamcast but anything older like snes or tg16 is a no go. Google search hd crt for more info. I used to have one and I took it to the dump.

I picked up a KV-24FS100 yesterday for $80. Immaculate physical condition. I have a Samsung TX-P2730 and a TX-N1430F (matching). The Sony is fairly dim. The geometry is trash. Need to fix one corner big time. The blacks are crushed even when I turn the brightness up. Going to see what magic I can make happen in the service menu. Yada yada yada. My point is, okay the Samsungs have hot color saturation but you can turn it down. They're beautiful designs with overall really strong geometry. Both have a tendency for one corner to pull in a tiny bit which I think is typical and hardly noticeable. Comparing with the Sony, the Sony is a mess. I'm assuming the woman just didn't use it recently. But heck she even had the brightness turned way up, probably because the TV is fairly dim otherwise. These Sony designs are not exactly pretty either. I don't even know if something is wrong with this or what. The image doesn't seem insanely in focus either. Now I'm in a spot where it's like, do I check out another Trinitron (I want one for my other room), or just say screw it? Part of me wonders if these are insanely overrated.
@jonebize13 If someone has the brightness turned all the way up they will wear out the tube. You can easily tell if the tube is out of focus with a grid pattern. It's easily adjusted with a pot on the flyback. Sometimes the tv has a hole in the plastic cover so you can access the focus without taking the cover off.
@@riggel8804 It wasn't allll the way up. Maybe 65%. The lady who sold it to me was a pretty serious professional and said she was working a ton in the time after she bought it, and didn't watch it that much. It's like immaculate. I'm hoping nothing serious is causing one of the geometry issues, but I figure if I'm going to fix one of these up, it might as well be this one.
I think I'm going to get into subtly repairing these things. I feel like if a person uses CRT's, at some point they're going to have to do basic things like replacing capacitors, etc. Adjusting focus. Might as well just do it lol.
@@riggel8804 Thanks for the advice; I heard you mention the focus adjustments. Overall, what basic things should I learn how to do? Capacitors, adjusting focus. What else? Also, what's your video called, about working on them? One more question. If an image is not great, what's overall the best way to troubleshoot it? Is there a step by step process to go through. Maybe in general if I get a new TV I could basically have in mind that I'm going to tweak everything reasonable to tweak (including the hardware itself). Otherwise it's like where do you even start. It's hard to tell if an image issue is the settings in the service menu or something deeper. Love your channel man. Just always thought you were a cool dude and fun to listen to. Take care
@@riggel8804 I'm just yapping now but I just want to say, buying these CRT's is a bit of a crapshoot. IMO unless someone else is a CRT fan (and selling at a premium), you can't exactly walk into someone's house and load up 240 test suite and then be like, "ehhh idk I'm not interested." Lol -- especially because if there is anything wrong, I can't even tell what's causing it anyway. You basically have to make sure it looks okay, buy it, and then fix it up a little bit. I've found that the more half-ass sets that I buy end up performing better right out the box. Then you buy a Trinitron and the thing is total mess. Kind of a brutal game and you really have to be able to do a little maintenance on them yourself
@jonebize13 My video is titled something like "general crt repair" it answers your questions. Caps don't effect video quality Geometry, focus and convergence are what you can easily service. When a tube gets tired, there's not much you can do
You think 2005 is recent for a CRT, I saw a post on r/crtgaming for a Disney Frozen karaoke machine that has a CRT screen that was made in 2015. My grandparents have a TruTech (Funai) TV that was made in 2009, its a really low end set but the tube is so fresh it looks pretty good despite that. (Using S-Video) It actually can still receive modern OTA TV broadcasts because it has a digital tuner. I checked the schematics and it's internally connected via YPbPr, so I suspect a Component mod is possible. But on a set that blurry S-Video is good enough.
Good question. I didn't know about HD TVs when I got started and I drove 2 hours to pick one up. It was a mistake. Fortunately most wega models are "standard definition" which means the highest resolution they can produce is 480i. This means scanlines and no input lag. There are "hd wegas" but they are less common. I would avoid them unless you want one for a very specific purpose. With 240p gaming they have no scanlines and they have terrible input lag. You're better off on a quality lcd monitor. hd CRTs look like sd crts but you can tell them apart because hd crts will say "HD" plainly on the back where the inputs are.
@@riggel8804 Thanks! Really appreciate your answer. I was avoiding all WEGA's, because I've heard somewhere they weren't good for retrogaming because of lag. Now I am going to look at them closely. I kinda like how they look and I always liked Sony TV's.
I noticed that you have the picture on 3 (!) TVs at the same time. What equipment do you use to do that, and does it loose quality? I have 2 TVs and want to be able to choose horizontal or vertival for my MiSTer... Without swapping the scart all the time.
Ha! Yeah. I always git a tv in tate. All you need is a scart switcher or a component switcher. The good ones don't degrade auidio or video quality. The problem is finding a switcher that is cheap and good. I went with a component extron switcher. Mlig on youtube has a video on switchers
Man I factory reset my 36XBR250 service menu settings on accident and now I'm in a bad way. All I wanted to do was refine the picture for PS2 games. I bought Digital Video Essentials prior but that wasn't much help. At least not until the settings were wrote to factory default. Now I need to find a know how to make sure everything gets back to where it needs to be. All I really cared about was overscan and geometry anyways. Colors are an afterthought at this point lol
Damn that sucks. I've never done a factory reset. I think any of your solutions are going to be time consuming. You might want to look into getting someone to go through all the settings with an oscilloscope. That is how the service manual says to calibrate. It is very time consuming. Good luck.

Your camera’s shutter speed must be adjusted down to 60 fps to sync up with the CRT. Otherwise if it’s faster, it will cause a rolling shutter effect because the CRT’s refresh rate is showing the beam scan on your camera
Hey i have a similar KV model but it has some scuffs and scratches on the silver bezel. They annoy me and i am curious if painting it with some kind of plastic silver paint is a wise idea? Any idea of a certain brand/type or solution to hide bezel scuffs?
I was getting ready to paint one of my wegas black and I pulled back on doing it. Of course you want to remove and clean the bezel first. I would use a paint sprayer and talk to some guys at sherwin williams or at a auto body shop about what type of paint to use. I am sure it is doable but if you do it wrong the paint is going to look like do do. Get the right paint so it doesn't peel off in a week and make sure not to drip. If you end up doing it let me know how it goes. Or better yet post a quick video.

@@riggel8804 Just following up on my experience with the Sony KV-24FS120. Movies and anime shows look amazing on this set using component video! I think so but people disagree with me. Both are so old the big thing is getting one in good shape. Low hours.good geometry.good colors. Also, if you want one that takes rgb/component there is only one or two black sonys that do.
It's a crap shoot with crts. Some models are inherently superior to others, for example Sony and Toshiba put superior tubes in there larger models, but often even a inferior tube can look better than a superior tube if it has less use.

Sometimes you have to enable component video in the user menu of the tv. Look around. It could also be your cables or you may need to enable component video on your game cube. I know nothing about game cubes.
It might need to be powered on for 30 minutes or so if it hasn't been powered on for awhile. Other than that I would think a recap might do it. You can open it up and look for bad caps.
i live with my grandma. have this same model made in august 2005. im kinda concerned cause it makes a buzzing sound and blinks red like 15 times then turns on. what does this mean?
Sometimes when they buzz it's because they need grease under the anode cap. It's the sound of a short circuit arcing. You have to open it up and turn it on to identify where the short is. I had a tv that would flicker red. I took it to the dump
I had one of these TV's and the reds are very orange. You can make the reds better but still too orange for my taste. The one problem I had with mine was diagonal line interference. It is extremely common on this model and is caused by the tilt control microcontroller. If you wanna see it bring up a solid grey pattern like a nes grey screen when the cartridge isn't being read. Move the tilt from +5 to 0 to -5. It will change how bad it appears. Geometry was way worse than a FS100 too. Also its been years since I've adjusted mine but turning VSM off from the menu doesn't work iirc. You need to shut it off completely in the service menu.
Sounds like your TV had some issues. I've use the tilt correct many times, on different TVs, but I have never noticed any video noise while doing so. I will keep that in mind next time I make an adjustment. How do you turn VSM off in the service menu? What is the setting? Is it just called VSM?
@@riggel8804 If you do a quick google a few other people had the same problem. . Looking at my notes I might have confused a fs120 for a fs100l. Can get kinda confusing since I've had so many of these.A few years ago some random person said to change the tilt settings and it cleared up. Granted the picture is slightly titled, but you can adjust the yoke to fix it by a slight rotation.I believe it is caused by oscillation of the microprocessor that controls the tilt funcntion. but yeah tvs that use the BA-6 chassis often have VSM still enabled even when turned off. Some don't. I found it in a post on shmups by Ryeno. FS120 definitely has VSM enabled even when turned off in the menu. imgur.com/a/pMMV2Hx So yeah just check your service manual + google.
I have a KV-36FS100 from 2003 and the menu is even different than both of yours, kinda like a mix of both the 99 and 05. I aquired it around 2009 and it's been my main TV for gaming and DVDs ever since.Tubes still work well, colors are decent, reds is tiniest bit off, greens a tad bit more off, blue is perfect. I've debated going into settings to fix it, but honestly it doesn't bother me unless I start comparing it to an image on my phone or computer. It's my only Sony since my higher end 2007 Sony wide screen CRT with HDMI broke when my dumbass drunk brother spilled beer into the back....fuck it still makes me mad, I think that was the very last CRT sony ever produced, and that mf looked criiisppyyy as all hell.
Yeah dude. I still lose my mind if anyone places a beer on a stereo. They should make amps with a rounded top just so no one tries to set anything on them. Not cool. I got a video on adjusting white balance but if it doesn't bother I wouldn't worry about it.
I will have to admit it to you, we are both Trinitron hoarders, lol. I have a total of 5 Sony Trinitron CRT TV's and they are 2 KV-32FS100's, 1 KV-36FS100, 1 KV-27FS120 that my aunt gave to me about a month ago, and my Sony KV-35XBR48. I would have to say the build quality on the KV-27FS120 is cheap as they are known to warp all around the sets and crack in certain areas such as the speakers. Compared to the KV-35XBR48, the build quality is far stronger. The clear edge VM can be done on the KV-35XBR48 by changing the video mode as you can see the edge thickness getting thicker or thinner whenever you change the settings.
Yea I noticed that too. I talked about changing video settings to turn the VM off and on in my fs12 vs fv15 video. What do you think about the VM setting? Do you use it for anything?
Please help me, I haven't been able to do anything for a month. I connect the Sony Trinitron KV-21T1R Sega Genesis RGB TV to my image is shifted to the left, I can enter the service menu, but no matter how I try, I can't use any buttons to center the image. Why can't I change the values? Help please
I've been trying obsessively to get a shader in Retroarch that matches a Trinitron. Best I've managed so far is i.imgur.com/rMUp6ze.png (with glass) or i.imgur.com/HfB3vFJ.png (without glass). Problem is, I don't have a Trinitron, or any CRT. I haven't touched a CRT in 10+ years. Only thing I have to compare to are images I find on google, or youtube videos. And it's surprisingly hard to find clear pictures of a Trinitron that show the mask and scanlines well enough. Even hard to find pictures that show the mask and scanlines, but also have 8/16-bit games running through composite. Half the images I find that WOULD have worked, are running the 3D games that don't really help me, or the games have been run through RGB instead.
There is not one Trinitron look. There are many different looks. Composite on a consumer grade 1990 trinitron with the Genesis is at the bottom end of sharpness. On the other end you have RGB to a 900 line BVM with the MiSTer. Here are a bunch of examples of different CRT looks: S-video looks different than composite and component; a one chip SNES looks different than a SNES mini and the 240p wii shop games look like doo doo; the old curved glass Trinitrons look different than the later generation flatscreen Trinitrons. I have been wanting to do a video on all the different CRT looks. It's a cool subject I don't here a lot about. You can get a really good idea of how a CRT looks by watching some of my uploads in 1080p on an lcd screen. My pc engine cutscenes video is good. My Double Dragon playthrough is a good example of a very sharp Trinitron look. For a softer look check out my xbr48 upload. I have composite footage at the end of my upload comparing component to rgb.
Man that gun metal Trinitron on the far right has beautiful colours, really vivid and satisfying, noticeably outclasses the sets next to it.
Was thinking the same thing. Color real pops.
@@J_Braz_ That set has to have higher end phosphors, i.e. high pigment SMPTE phosphors, unlikely to have Sony's top tier SMPTE-C phosphors but for sure has higher grade than average, Sony usually only uses their SMPTE-C phosphors in their top of the tree broadcast master series and high-end PC monitors like the GDM-C520K or FW900, never heard of a consumer TV that has them,
Just got me a 32” kv-32fs120 and loving it! Original owner and he even gave me the remote and a owners manual. The tv has 0 scratches anywhere and in perfect condition. It’s like the guy never moved it but they sold it to me for $20 as long as I hauled it away.
Cool man. Time to play some games.
Just got one of these bad boys for free yeserday. Was at the bottle depot, and these guys walked by with a few sony crts on a big dolly and they were going to scrap them. Saved one and it was manufactured in january 2006.

Makes me sad to think how many do get scrapped

I own both a 20FV300 and a 20L5, the FV300 is very close with a RGB to Comp transcoder. It's impressive how good the late model WEGA's became before they stopped making them.
I'm a big fan of the wega models. Lately I've been interested in why some models are sharper than others for example I had a 32fv300 that was much sharper than my friend's 24fv300 and I did a video comparing a fs12 to a fv15. I think the newer wegas are sharper (around 2005). Maybe they were made better or maybe they have a fresher tube. Maybe both. I don't know
Just picked one up from a free yard sale giveaway at random. So hype. Been wanting a CRT for my retro consoles.
How lucky to find a good one at random

I own the 29" KV-29FS120 and love it, it has some geometry issues but overall looks great.
Good times!
Haha yea my son complains about it too. Maybe a pc crt doesn't have the noise.
I get that too, feel like it's a really shitty super power
Just got this exact model and I had completely forgot about this noise… now after a couple days I can tune it out, but even a couple rooms away or outside my window i can tell that it’s on
@riggel8804 All crts emit that noise unfortunately bu it's worth getting to play light gun games! When I worked at best buy in 2001, selling cameras, which was right next the tv department, now that was somewhat of a hell for me.
@@dlads79That's what I used to say lol. I could walk down the street and know when peoples tv's were turned on hah!

Careful with those hd crts. They look okay with 480p ps2 stuff but they are terrible for 240p old stuff.

EDIT: it's not NOTC it's TROT
is this helpful for correcting the wavy geometry?
I have a Sony trinitron wega xbr hdcrt I know people shit on them it has tilt and vert. Correction in the regular user menu grant it the adjustment isn’t that massive but it’s nice that they gives you that any wega tv is notorious for bad geometry including mine
I'm liking these review videos and I really got to see some sharpness with that bvm in 4k.
Thanks! Yeah the 4k removes a lot of the moire pattern.
The TV on the right looks richer in color, better contrast. There's a setting in the service menu of my Trinitron that I turn off called DCOL (Dynamic Color). Sometimes I think it looks better with it left on, as it is by default, but I think it's more accurate turned to 0 (off).
I haven't heard of that. I will check it out next time I'm in the service menu. Thanks.
@@riggel8804 I ended up putting it back on. It says in the service manual to do that after making corrections
@@FireMrshlBill central geometry waves can be corrected by turning the geometry rings behind the convergence rings

Yeah i think the 20 inchers typically have better geometry. I have noticed that the 27 inch and larger sonys have better/sharper tu es in them
I own the immediate predecessor the KV-27FS100L which lacks the clear edge and a few other enhancements the 120 has. I think they both have some geometry issues which are only noticeable on older retro games. For some weird reason the geometry is slightly better in the 100L than the 120 but it can never be perfect with flat crts… just adjust in the service menu to make it “less shitty”
You can do a lot to a lot to fix geometry on flats if your willing to open them up. I got a video on it .

I will have to check mine to see if it has that Clearedge VM option...thank you
You can correct the geometry from the service menu. You don't need to open up the CRT.
I have the kv-29ef with component. With the ps2 and component cable the games looks wñawesome, the emulated nes and snes games also look pretty good.

$90 seems like a deal.
my new trinitron doesnt have a flyback transformer noise, i thought i went deaf somehow but i decided to call my friend to come over and take a listen and he has really good hearing but he only heard a slight 50hz humming noise
Are the flybacks supposed to make noise? I thought they only made noise when they were failing but I don't know a lot about it.

Lol -- especially because if there is anything wrong, I can't even tell what's causing it anyway. You basically have to make sure it looks okay, buy it, and then fix it up a little bit. All the crts you have are in great shape. How do you do it?
I take the shitty ones to the dump and I service the good ones.

Aren't most Sony WEGA TV's 120Hz, which means they have some sort of frame buffer and introduce 1 frame of lag?

Damn that sucks. I've never done a factory reset. I think any of your solutions are going to be time consuming. You might want to look into getting someone to go through all the settings with an oscilloscope. That is how the service manual says to calibrate. It is very time consuming. Good luck.

Hi
I have 2 sony triniton tv and pasanoic the big ass , so I am not sure if these are the best tv for my old consoles the playstation 1&2 and nes sega snes etc !!!!
One of my sony triniton tv has only the button of VHF /UHF , so it is kind hard to plug it to my console unless there is extra cable in between!!!
Any idea if these 3 tvs are the best option in terms of having perfect picture of gaming !
I would look for ANY crt with component video on the back. That means it has red, green and blue connections for you to plug in your consoles. Sony is always a good bet.
Can you still access the service menu with a universal remote on the KV Trinitrons? Mine didnt come with one as i bought used and the geometry needs some love
Probably. As long as you have the right buttons. If not just buy a remote similar to your tv. All sony remotes work with other sonys. And they are cheap on eveay
Great 👍 ❤
Hey riggel. Would the 24inch version be worth picking up. There's one for sale near me. It's an hour drive though
Depends on what you are looking for and how often these TVS come up in your area.
@@riggel8804 there getting more rare and I've noticed some crt enthusiast buying them. I have a kv27fv300 in pretty good shape. How does it compare to that?

Unless your fv300 has issues than the 120 probabley won't be an improvement. But don't let me talk you out of picking up another crt. When I first got into it I just picked up damn near everything. It can be fun and it's always good to have a backup or 2 or 3...or 10 Haha

Someone nearby is selling this model for $100. Is that a decent deal? I just moved and the moving guys threw out my CRT thinking it was garbage.
I used to laugh when i saw consumer crts being sold for $100 but they are getting harder find. If i was to pay 100$ for a crt it would have to be in excellent condition. This model usually has geometry issues. If you check it out bring something to test it first.
You can try and haggle them to 50$.
Are the scanlines prominent on this FS120 while watching movies? I just want to get an FS120for movies, don't care about retro games lol. I want to avoid scanlines while watching movies.
No. The scanlines are not prominent with the fs120 with 480i movies and stuff. This is one of the best crts for watching 480i content. You're gonna like it.

Is this better than the older black sony trinitron from the 90's?
I think so but people disagree with me. Both are so old the big thing is getting one in good shape. Low hours.good geometry.good colors. Also, if you want one that takes rgb/component there is only one or two black sonys that do.
What model is that TV from the right side?

I do have a 21fa310 and I have found an 29fs120, do you think can be better than the one I have right now???
It's a crap shoot with crts. Some models are inherently superior to others, for example Sony and Toshiba put superior tubes in there larger models, but often even a inferior tube can look better than a superior tube if it has less use.
Does the FS120 or FV300 display hours in the service menu?
I think the UK models do but the USA models do not.

@@reminon ye. That Tv gonna look great with a transcoder. Tv is gaming beast. Movies look good too.
FS120 definitely has VSM enabled even when turned off in the menu. imgur.com/a/pMMV2Hx
So yeah just check your service manual + google.
I have a 24FS100 that also has orange reds. Any idea how to improve them?
@@Biospark88 Try messing with the service menu. I forget the name but there's a setting that helps. Just make sure to note original values!
I just picked up a kv-36fs100 few days ago. So far I'm loving it. I like it much more then my kv27fs100 to be honest. Gonna sell the 27in
I will have to admit it to you, we are both Trinitron hoarders, lol.
Do you use it for anything?
wow, once you point out the geometry issues, I can't "not" see it
It always looks worse on the grid than during normal use. But geometry issues are real.
