      Most beautiful yes, funniest? No! Not all shorts were funny. Just because people like anime man over exaggerated about it, it won’t become FUNNIEST. But it’s indeed beautiful and heartwarming. It’s something that you’ll want to watch with your gf/wifu and have a good time, if she’s a woman of culture.

    I think my favorite part of Nichijou is that, at least to me, it really demonstrates something compelling and true about real life through its absurdist humor. The reactions are over-the-top and crazy but also very relatable? Like, the blank face Yukko bears after Mio loses her wallet at the amusement part is one of the most empathizable things I've ever seen in an anime. And there's lots of stuff like that, and the warm-n-fuzzy SoL bits you mention in this video only reinforce that feeling for me.

    I watched the OVA last and it kind of made me sad when the three of them are lying on the train heading home. It's like a quiet way of saying goodbye.

    Excellent review, you deserve a lot more subscribers. I'm really happy to hear you do justice for my all-time favourite anime. But you could've given a shoutout to Yukko's voice. It's absolutely brilliant and just makes the scenes she's in even better. There are also some really genuinely uplifting moments, like Yukko and Mio's handshake after their fight and when Mai shows her non-trolling side.

    Is there a chance that we will get a Shaft month? There are so little people brave enough to take on Shaft critique (apart from Madoka and guides to Monogatari), which is a shame, because stuff like Zetsubo Sensei, Hidamari Sketch, Arakawa under the Bridge, REC etc deserve more attention.

    • @GrexEleven
      @GrexEleven  7 років тому

      Perhaps! I'd like to make months like this at least an annual thing, continuing from Type-Moon Month last year. I *am* a fan of Shaft, so consider it a definite future possibility.

      Well, many people are fans of Shafts work, but that can make it even harder to critique their anime in addition to how hard it already is to critique something that has so much creative artistic influence. I wrote a review to Bakemonogatari myself to have something to point to in discussions, but it was incredible challenging because there is soo much to cover and that goes for nearly every less standard Shaft show. I will wish you luck if you try though. ;)

      That'd be difficult for sure. If it's 4 anime, I guess it'd be Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, 3-gatsu no Lion, Madoka Magica and Monogatari for the top 4.

    Watched Nichijou, and I believe that I can tell you exactly how I felt about this whole series by pointing one thing out: I did not like the deer scene.
    Note, it had funny parts to me, like the wallet, the Manga parts and one time when Tsundere shot out of a cannon, but the rest were fluff with no substance. Even talking about characters, they did not feel original, nor did they feel likeable or had depth. Just so you know, my favorites were the teachers and Sakamoto, but I hated the Professor, to the point that I revelled in her misfortune.
    Good for you for enjoying this series. I just cannot fathom how it can get so many positive reviews on UA-cam.

      I too, hated the Professor. I wanted to set Nano free from the second they introduced her, and to see her life controlled by some self-absorbed little brat was very frustrating to me.
      But besides the Professor, I loved every other character in the series. They didn't need to be fleshed out for me so long as I got a sense of their personalities. Then again, I also found the deer scene hilarious. Guess we just have different funny-triggers.

    I found Nichijou to be really unfunny and annoying. Eventually, I was able to get some enjoyment out of it by treating it as an iyashikei, but it isn't really an iyashikei, and isn't good as it either. So meh, Nichijou is one of those anime I'll talk about how I dislike at almost every opportunity.

  • @axelwust9376
    @axelwust9376 4 роки тому +1

    As someone who watched the whole show and did not like it, here's my takeaway.
    1. Nothing about the world makes sense internally. And yes, I am saying that about the absurdist genre anime, but hear me out, it isn't consistent. It acts 'normal' and 'absurd' at the same time meaning there is no consistency. Half the time, I considered everything happening on the screen as something exaggerated by the characters for the laugh, thus I had no real interest in what was happening. Basically, why should I laugh at the girl shooting bazooka when I know it's not real (nobody reacts to it and damage done has no consequence, like nobody comments she has the giant bazooka at all).
    2. About 1 person of the principal cast I found likeable. Hakase is a character I loathe and most of the heartwarming moments come not from the main six but side characters like the teachers. So even if it wasn't funny, they should have kept someone I like, but nope. Also, they are badly/blandly written. Nano is example of former (why is she designed such way by Hakase I have no idea) and Mio is of the former (she could be replaced by anyone and the reaction would stay the same, all the work for her was done by her VA).
    3. When I first saw Mio overreacting to her Manga being revealed, I laughed. But when I saw principal wrestling the deer, I wasn't even amused. This is the show for me. I liked when the show actually played with its characters and situations, but the absurdist comedy was weak and lazy for me. I felt it when Yukkie lost her wallet in an amusement park, but had no idea why the boy with the Mohawk revealing that's how his hair grows and cries should be funny, when they already set up that there is a fully functioning robot made by a little girl, that's kind of a high bar to go over then you know?
    TLDR: I still have no friggin idea why this show is praised and I am more on the side of why it never got a second season, but the animation is nice. 4/10. Only watch it if you have a taste for it.

      I'm just trying to wrap my head around how could every reviewer of anime in this platform manages to come to the same completely opposite conclusion from me. @eta0carinae 4 роки тому +2

      @@axelwust9376 i'm sure you're aware there are many reasons that could be listed as contributing to its commercial flop in Japan, not necessarily the quality of the anime. i didn't watch every review of nichijou on YT, but i've seen a handful of negative ones on MAL, it just so happens that there are more positive reviews and you share an unpopular opinion, which is cool, you don't have to agree with every reviewer, they are not there to convince people who didn't like the work that they should reconsider their opinion.
      now i don't know you and how you watched it, but speaking from my experience, i haven't seen any reviews of nichijou prior to watching it nor have I ever watched a slice of life anime before. all I've seen were the raw clips from it on YT that got recommended to me by the algorithm for some reason, and I just couldn't help but laugh out loud watching them. given that I'm a fan of absurdist comedy it naturally became one of my favourite anime series. I'm not going to provide any rationalization of this, my point is that it's really personal. I'm sure there are more people who won't like nichijou, but they are the ones that most likely won't bother to watch it and have a strong opinion against it, because you're pretty much know what you're going to get. even if they try and don't stick with it, there are less chances that they will post an elaborate negative review of it, because as I said in my previous reply, there isn't much point in doing so. it doesn't hurt to try and watch the couple of episodes if there are big chances that you're going to have a great time.
