I'm steadily working my way through all your vids and loving your appreciation of all the small details that meet your keen eye. And loving the Yeats too! You remind me that there is a quiet, gentle and peaceful world out there to be admired and appreciated.
Brompton should give you a free gold-plated bike for boosting their sales through your excellent videos. It would be nice to think Brompton appreciate just how much you have promoted their fantastic bikes. Really enjoy watching your travel videos. Thank you for posting them.
My wife and I traveled 2 separate times in Ireland by car. Amazing. Would love to take our marching bromptons. We use them from our RV in the US. You are an inspiration! You are amazing. I wore a biking helmet for 40 years before ever having it protect me in an unexpected fall, which cracked it and I was unscathed. Our friend had similar ans had his cranium removed to allow for the swelling to come down before being replaced. I pray for your safety not wearing one. They have many that are light and airy and sit on top of caps. Blessings and will continue to enjoy your adventures. Thank you for posting. 🙏🏻
Susanna, I enjoyed your video in my homeland. You were fortunate to get such good weather which makes such a difference when you are cycling long distance.
Hi Ray! yeh kind of the same. When I realised how easy it is to get to Ireland, I thought why haven't I been there more. So close, fantastic landscape, and so friendly.
Big smile on my face when I opened my 'phone this morning to see you have uploaded another video! I love the half hour length as it means I can settle to watch your videos often and they give me a real lift of positivity, so thank you so much for that :) The Lake Isle of Innisfree was part of my mum's funeral service as it was a favourite work and I like to think of her sitting outside a cottage amongst her bean rows in a "bee loud glade". A wonderful poem :)
That was a lovely watch, nice and peaceful...very inspiring! Must get off my arse lol! My Brompton has been gathering dust this past winter and spring!
Beautiful! I would like to visit Ireland and bike around the countryside. My Grand Dad is from Ireland & while alive had a dairy farm in Virginia, USA. I can see the similarity of both locations. Thanks for bringing us along with you on this wonderful journey. Cheers ~
Oh how nice about your Grand Dad. I hope you will be able to visit the places in Ireland where your Grand Dad came from one day. Thank you for the lovely comment!
Hello! My first trip was about 30 years ago too - cycling and camping round the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle with a schoolfriend, no money, jam and bread all the way round. Doesn't seem so long ago really. Hmm, actually perhaps she and I should redo that trip, now her kids all grown up... Hope you get to go back to Ireland again too. Thank you for watching!
State side here. My family on my mom’s side are Irish. I bicycle tour. I’d like to do Ireland. You made me hungry with all your cooking and eating. I’d better go eat a bite. Really enjoyed your tour. Om!
Hi Daniel! thanks for watching! glad you liked the film, I loved exploring the country of your mom's folks, gorgeous scenery and I met such nice people
Thank you George! What a lovely comment. Glad you liked the film. Another one coming soon - another Irish film actually, cos after the holiday with Henrietta, I thought well here I am, with my bike and all my gear, and the coast looked amazing on the map, and I had some time, so I rode back as well, along the north coast of Ireland, on the so-called Wild Atlantic Way and then into Antrim and down to Belfast, and got the boat to Liverpool from there. It was beautiful, and really different from the route I did on the way out. I'll make that film next. Anyway, thanks for writing! Happy cycling!
WEll done again, Susanna. I am amazed how you seem to find quiet roads, or at least it seems quiet when you have captured it on film. Dublin looked quite continental the way you filmed it too. We take our footpaths for granted! Cheers. V
Hi Vin! Thanks for writing! The main roads that I saw did have a fair bit of traffic, but the "B roads" were some of them beautifully quiet - like that road along the edge of Lough Gill, quite a big road really, but hardly any cars - and C roads often just deserted except for the odd tractor, and farmer wanting a chat haha. And Dublin yeh it felt really continental, good word for it. Everyone in summer clothes, all those bridges and cafes and bars. Lovely. Hope your family all doing well! Thanks for watching!
A massive smile on my face seeing this new video Susannah. Such a treat and made a gloomy afternoon stuck in the West Midlands a little more bearable..lol. Your such an inspiration and planning my own bike adventures next year thanks to you👍
Thanks for the reminder of the beauty & warm people in Ireland. I stayed at Camac Valley campsite while in Dublin. Ireland is special to me, as my family is rooted in Connemara. I long to go back & see more of it. Though I've enjoyed a lot of travel, Ireland is the only place I've had a lovely long visit that felt so short that I left in tears.
Thank you for your Brompton videos. I find them very motivating. I am planning a charity bike ride and your videos are swaying me toward using my Brompton, brilliant bikes. Another lovely video.
Hi Peter! Thanks for writing! Glad you like the films! Yes, brilliant little bikes. But I was thinking about what you said about a charity ride. Is it going to be a ride with other people all on "normal" bikes? You obviously know Bromptons, and you'll have thought about all these things already, but I am just thinking that if you're with other people and if some of the road surfaces on the course will be rough, is it the best choice - cos all the others will be able to zoom downhill on their big wheels, and you'll have to go more slowly and be careful on your little wheels. On my own, I don't mind doing more slowly on a Brompton on rough sections. But when there are other people around me, it is a bit different. When I was cycling with Lynne and she was on a "normal" bike and I was on a Brompton, on smooth surfaces we were equal, but on rough surfaces downhill, she could just bash on down at speed without worrying if she wanted to, whilst I had to pick my way. Just a thought! If the road surfaces on the charity ride are nice and smooth, a Brompton will be just the same as everyone else. Horses for courses isnt it, always. Anyway! Hurrah to you for doing a charity ride. Hope you have a brilliant time. Thanks for watching!
@@susannathornton Hello Susanna. thank you for the advice. My days of whizzing are few and far between. I am planning a solo ride which for me will probably involve lots of pushing. I am carrying a few old injuries from a motorbike accident hence the charity ride to pay back the air Ambulance. I just can't decide on which of my bikes to use. I have a nice bright orange Brompton a 25 yr old mtb, a 30 year old Peugeot road bike and a nearly new hybrid which I have ruled out for the ride as its really light and fast (could be viewed as too easy) I was hoping to do something from Italy but with the lock downs Im not sure I am also thinking of some sort of coast to coast back to coast ? It all depends on the old war wounds. Cheers Pete
Oh, I do so love Ireland! Stunning!! The people are incredibly friendly. I definitely think it is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet!! I was very lucky to do a six week tour from Dublin, up to the Giant’s Causeway and then around the entire Wild Atlantic Way. Took my little Campervan, and a friend, and we each took turns to cycle or drive our way round. Wild camped two out of every three nights. Amazing trip! We were cycling together one day from our base and got caught in a downpour… a lady came out of her house and said “aw, cum on in out the rain, ye can’t be gettin wet out there”… she invited us in for tea and cake, and a long interesting chat. You’ve just got to love ‘em!!
Beautiful, and very inspiring. And not a drop of rain!! (;o I work in the Northwest of Ireland and never tire of the uncrowded serenity of these border counties. Thank you and safe travels.

Such a refreshing channel Susanna, I stumbled across it last week when I was looking for Brompton related videos. I’m thinking about getting a Brompton and getting back more on a bike. The bike I currently have, I took it for servicing today, so looking forward to getting out on it, until I decide what I’m doing Brompton wise. Your adventures on your Brompton are really fascinating, and gives me the confidence that I can get more out of having a Brompton than just using it for riding to work. Ireland looks so pretty!😊
Aw yeh Ireland was lovely - I loved going just kind of straight across the middle like that, to see what is there. Great weather I had! Nice people too. Anyway thank you for watching - and happy cycling! Hope your bike feels great once it is all nicely tuned up!
Hi Timothy! Glad you like the films! Yes it is so nice to sit and listen. I prefer wild camping to campsites partly because of the sounds you hear when you sit alone and listen
Glad you enjoyed the film! I see you've done loads of fantastic trips - Taiwan even. One of my favourite places! Yes, you need to check out Ireland!! on my way home I rode to Belfast, all along the north coast of Donegal and the coast of Derry and Antrim - film coming up soon! - so you could have a peek at that too soon if you feel like at, as part of your research haha. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Susanna, another video glue back my missing of long gone Ireland backpacking memory. Vividly I took 30 hours Eireann Long bus journey via ferry to Dublin, then to Galway City.
Just amazing. And the Scottish lady was sitting on one of my favourite places in Ireland up on the iron mts in letrim many a flask of tea I had there.Just a wonderful video thank you.
Bonsoir Susanna and all others watching this thread. I'm writing from the other side of the pond (I'm in Canada) and after looking at probably 5-6 of your videos, I am amazed at your resourcefulness while travelling and camping. After holding out for 15 years, I went ahead and purchased a Brompton (M6L which I immediately asked to be converted to the "R" version, with the rack). They are scarce here (probably everywhere with the pandemic) and it was in my colour (somewhat flat ORANGE), so I pulled out my card and voilà! For the moment, I am at the limit of the weight spectrum but I hope that "Benji the Brompton" will help me get my weight back to normal. Can't wait for spring to come along to take to the roads! Happy travels, tout le monde!
Hello HRH! thanks for watching! Yeh I had hardly ever been there. I enjoyed it so much. I ended up cycling back to England too actually, on a different route. Also lovely landscape and really different. Will put up a film about that ride soon. Best wishes!
15:00 wrong turning, I know that feeling, but at least you have good weather. I was channel hopping earlier, as you do and bumped into Miriam's channel where she'd mentioned your recent trip to Ireland. What beautiful sights and sounds. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Susanna just found your channel and am enjoying looking at your travels especially your Irish one i'm from Tipperary and love to get out cycling around our quiet country back roads safe travels. Gordon
Hi Gordon! thanks for watching my films! Glad you enjoy them, esp the Irish film. I'm making another Irish film now, cos I cycled back towards England too, along the north coast of Ireland. Had be fair bit of rain haha, but it was still gorgeous, I really loved the journey. I love cycling on country lanes too, so nice. Happy cycling!
Thank you for sharing! Enjoy everything about your videos so much. And have requested a folding chair for my birthday so my 64 year old body can relax in comfort after a day’s ride. Keep up the brilliant videos, sharing and ideas.
Oh wonderful about the chair. Great idea. You will be constantly thanking the person who gives it to you haha. Mine was kind of a joint present from my Dad and my husband. Thanks for watching!
Just finished watching all of your videos Susanna, brilliant! Throughly enjoyed all of them. Thank you so much for putting the films together and sharing.
Hi James oh wow, sounds like a bit of a marathon haha! Glad you enjoyed the films! When I started making them I was really not very good at all as you will have seen. Thank you for writing, and thank you for the support!
Hello Susanna, just a beautiful trip, I enjoyed it from beginning to end, I also congratulate you for the selection of the very beautiful music and also the landscapes, until the next video, greetings 😊👍💫✨
Hi Colin! yes! It's lovely to take the time to chat a bit along the way isn't it. I met lots of lovely people on this ride. At Lough Derravaragh campsite I met an brave nice father who was on holiday with his other children but whose little son had recently died, and we talked for ages. And lots of other people. Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the film! 😎
Hi Brian! Those were happy summer days. I like making films cos it is so nice to look back on things and remember everything. Glad you liked the film too. Best wishes!
Thank you so much for touring us in this beautiful country. I enjoy the video so much. I love the sceneries and the experience. Keepsafe! New friend from the Philippines.
A truly wonderful film. I commute around by bike, but you're inspiring me to go further and wildcamp. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us, I so enjoy watching your videos. Anna.
Another excellent video Susanna. Lovely, quiet and beautiful countryside. Enjoyed the background music as well. Keep up the great work. I look forward to the next.
Hi Colin! thanks for watching! Aw yes, I was so touched by what Miriam said. What a lovely person. Glad you liked the film, and hope you'll enjoy the channel!
Hi Ian! yeh the Yeats. The nice calligraphy version of "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven", which I put at the end, is in the cottage actually. A little old frame, propped up on the lintel above the window. I wonder who made it. Probably Henrietta's Granny or one of her Granny's friends. So nice. Thank you for writing!
That was superb!! Really enjoyed your trip and I’m so glad you met plenty of friendly Irish people along the way to add positively to the adventure. Love what you did and you’ve inspired me to do a trip on my own Brompton and capture a few more Irish sights. Really enjoyed your video 🤗
Hi Miriam! Thank you for watching! Yes I met super people all along the way. As you say, it is a lovely part of the experience of travelling. Your films are amazing by the way! Beautiful!!!! I am sure they make everyone want to see a lot more of Ireland, crikey the colours, amazing!
Thank you so much for another great video!!👍👍👍 love the music, views, cemetry barber🤣 Perhaps someone asked you did but aren't you never afraid as a woman doing wildcamping? greetings from Holland
Thank you for a lovley video. It brought back memories of pedalling from Cork to Larne around the West Coast in 2012. I didn't quite have the same weather. It was the wettest summer on record!! It was still stunning. :)
Hi Graeme! Thanks for watching! Oh that sounds like a lovely idea for a tour. Aw poor you though with the wettest ever summer! I was so lucky, hardly a cloud from Dublin to Donegal. On my way back, however - along the north coast - it rained. A lot. Haha. But I thought it was stunning in the rain, too, like you. Film about that ride coming up soon! I am working on it now... Thanks for writing!
Oh my god, you cycled past my house in cloone 😁 I have a 7 acre smallhold just outside the village, I would love to have hosted you if I had known- love your videos, and inspiration
What a coincidence!! I better go back, and I'll stop at yours for tea. I loved the soda bread you have in Ireland. With loads of butter. Thanks for the support and thanks for watching my channel!
Hi Keith! thanks for watching! Just used the stove again, on a one-night mini trip. Gotta wash it all up and scrub it again now. Or maybe tomorrow morning
Hey Reli! Hope you are well too, and finding time to get out and about, and do cool things, like I know you do. Thanks for writing! Glad you enjoyed the film! 😎
I truly enjoyed that. Really did. You have a lovely calming nature and it comes across on the way you film and the general vibe of your video. I was sent your way by a friend of mine who took inspiration from your video. Miriam Kennedy. Glad she did. You got a sub from me. 👏👏🙂
@@susannathornton absolutely Susanna. We met a few times for some wild camps and we met through UA-cam so it's been a fun journey. Delighted I found your channel. Good on you.
Hi Marinus! thanks for the lovely comment! You said it really well, yeh to me a cycle ride - a slow one like mine anyway haha - is a lovely mix of relaxation and activity. A simple way to be happy. Thanks so much for writing 😊🚲⛺
@@susannathornton Hi Susanna, Just wondering, how many miles you do in one day and what is your average speed? How much does your packing weight ? Front and rear. Thanks
@@sellignomod83 Hi there! About distances, I ride up to about 50 miles a day, ie 80km. Sometimes less, rarely more. Average speed hard to say tbh, as it's not like I'm riding consistently. I stop for this and that all the time. I just tootle along at whatever speed is easy for the terrain, wind, road surface etc. I walk up the hills if it's too steep to ride comfortably. I suppose you could say I might ride for 5 hours, and so maybe 10mph, to give you an idea. I don't use a cycle computer and don't track myself on strava or anything. And about my bags, I don't know how much they weigh, as we don't have a weighing scale actually except a little one for cooking
@@susannathornton Thank you Susanna for your response. Of course I totally agree with the fact that this is not a race. I was just curious about it. I myself did a 170 km ride three weeks ago and I was in no hurry to get to my destination. I just enjoyed the ride. I was pretty well packed, about 25 kilos all together. I felt I was a bit on the heavy side of things. I am always amazed with your cooking. How do you pack your food I wonder? I think all your rides are so awesome, so ZEN! And all those nice roads you take… Chapeau!
@@sellignomod83 Oh that is long, 170km in day. Sounds like you enjoyed it too, great. That's the main thing! About food, yeh back a few years ago, on the first little tour I did on my Brompton, I struggled to get all my food packed on the bike, and I ended up taking a little rucksack (which I hate doing) cos I couldn't squeeze everything in. And it was just a two-day thing - don't know what I was packing really, massive jars of Nutella and things like that probably haha. These days, I can pack a week's food on the bike - like all I need for breakfasts, snacks, lunches, dinners and coffee etc for a week, amazingly - so that the only thing I need to go into a shop for is bread rolls from bakeries for lunch, if I eat up all the ones I start with. Actually it was covid that got me into working out how to carry all my food with me. I didn't want to have to go inside shops when I cycled to Stockport to see my Dad. Thanks for watching! Glad you like the films!
Great travel storey Susanna, thank you for making it. I have saved it to revisit in the dark depth of winter. The closing image of the cottage was a cracking end shot.
Loved this video - the first time I ever watched a video that showed the Ireland that I always want to show to visitors. Alas, it's hard to convince them to cycle!
Hi David G, aw thanks. I rewatched it recently, and thought how lucky I was to have done that ride. I loved the Irish journeys I did last year, one in the sun, one rainwashed. Thanks for writing!
I love watching your videos. I always dream of bike packing and camping here in my country Philippnes but I do not have a bike. I wish I could have that beautiful Brompton bike of yours. Always have a safe ride....
Yeh super lucky with the weather... I wondered why I had bothered to bring my raincape and shoe covers and brolly. But then I actually ended up riding back too, along the north coast - the "Wild Atlantic Way", and then into Antrim (all 5star gorgeous) - and it was a bit of a different story haha. Gonna make the film about that ride too, coming soon. Thanks for watching! And for writing. It is very nice of people to write
Hi Susanna. Absolutely stunning trip you took us on with superb scenery and lovely friendly people. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Safe travels. ATVB from sunny Malaysia 🇲🇾🏕
Susanna that was great to watch, thank you. I did a couple of weeks cycling there a few years ago and loved it. Retired now and heading back soon to leisurely cycle away the summer. I'm from Sydney and researching now, What references would you recommend. ....Most ladies I know think camping is when room service is late......outstanding!
Hi Rod! Glad you liked the film. Congrats on your retirement - and happy cycling! What do you mean by references actually? I was not quite sure what you meant. If you mean books, then I suggest Gianni Filippini's book Touring on a Folding Bike. It is full of practical tips, and is really thoughtful and inspiring. Gianni has a super youtube channel as well @bromptontraveler. That is just a little idea of something nice to read, or watch. Do write back if I have misunderstood what you're looking for. Best wishes!!

Hi Sergio! thanks for watching! glad you like the films! greetings to you in Brasil x
A lovely glimpse of a beautiful country. Thank you.
Yeh, what a beautiful island. I loved the whole trip. Thank you for watching!
Just love watching your adventures. Keep em coming 👍😊
Hi there furkuk! thanks for watching again! More coming soon! happy cycling! 😎🚲
I love how you build all the quiet nature moments in.
Hi Timothy! Glad you like the films! Yes it is so nice to sit and listen. I prefer wild camping to campsites partly because of the sounds you hear when you sit alone and listen
Great shots, really enjoyed watching your ride. We definitely need to check out Ireland!
Hi Clementi! Thank you for the lovely comment. Sounds like a long bus ride! I hope you have lots of happy memories. Thanks for watching!
Just amazing. And the Scottish lady was sitting on one of my favourite places in Ireland up on the iron mts in letrim many a flask of tea I had there.Just a wonderful video thank you.
Aw thanks Derrick. Glad you liked the video! Yeh what a spot, massive view. Sounds lovely going up there with a flask of tea. Thanks for watching!
So good to SEE you again! You and your Brompton and your tent and your tea rig. Welcome back!
Hi there Frankie! Thanks for writing again! Glad you enjoyed the film! Haha yeh my little kettle, makes me happy. Where would I be without it 😁☕
Such a nice video, very soothing and inspiring ! Been dreaming to bike through Ireland, thank you for this
Hi Nomadele! Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the film 😁🚲
Hi there Jacques and Benji 🚲! hope you guys get to take to the roads soon! Happy cycling!
That was great, thanks. Really peaceful. Beautiful scenery. I've never been to Ireland; I need to go someday.
Hello HRH! thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing.
haha yes, good thought. Look on the bright side, always! Thanks for watching!! So nice of Miriam to mention my films too. What a lovely person.
Another lovely video.

Hi Colin! 😎

Thank you for taking us with you
Hi Andrew! thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing another wonderful cycling adventure. The quotes from Yeats.... Quite!
Hi Ian! yeh the Yeats.
Wow brilliant, subbed. Another UA-camr led me here, thanks Miriam :)
Hi Phil! aw thanks! glad you liked the film! thanks to Miriam too, so nice of her :-)
Wow thanks for sharing Susanna, what a nice and positive trip, lovely countryside.
Hi Alex! thanks for watching! and for the lovely comment. Yes it was lovely countryside and kind of different every day. I loved it. Best wishes!
@@susannathornton ah thanks Susanna - I look forward to Chapter 2 of your Ireland adventure 😉

greetings from Holland
Great video thank you 🙏
Hi Grace! Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the film!
Really enjoyed your video you are very brave cycling every where and show a lot of us up
Hi Dermot! thanks for watching! Not brave really, just doing things that that make me happy. Glad you enjoyed the film!
Really enjoyed your Ireland trip, Susanna. Really inspiring stuff. Look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the great work! Regards, Tom.
Hi Tom! Thanks for the encouragement! I really appreciate people writing in with their thoughts. Happy cycling and best wishes!

Wow you never seem to amaze me with your sense of adventure . nice to see more of the cooking pot lol.
Hi Keith! thanks for watching! Just used the stove again, on a one-night mini trip. Gotta wash it all up and scrub it again now. Or maybe tomorrow morning
Really enjoyed this video!!! Hope you are well!🥰
Hi Soletrail! aw thanks so much! And I am really grateful to Miriam too. What a super filmmaker and lovely person
@@susannathornton absolutely Susanna. We met a few times for some wild camps and we met through UA-cam so it's been a fun journey. Delighted I found your channel. Good on you.
Wonderful bike trip,it reminds me at my one bike travels,in a way relaxing and at the same time being fysicly active, love it. Thank you.
Hi Marinus! thanks for the lovely comment! You said it really well, yeh to me a cycle ride - a slow one like mine anyway haha - is a lovely mix of relaxation and activity. A simple way to be happy. Thanks so much for writing 😊🚲⛺
Just so beautiful! Thank you so very much.
Hi! Thank you! glad you liked the film 😁
@@susannathornton Hi Susanna,
Just wondering, how many miles you do in one day and what is your average speed?
Haha, me too! I like looking back on trips I have done before. Making the films is a good way of doing it. Thanks for watching! 😁
Loved this video - the first time I ever watched a video that showed the Ireland that I always want to show to visitors. Alas, it's hard to convince them to cycle!
Aw thank you Conor - what a lovely comment x glad you liked the film! Thank you for watching!
I really enjoyed that, what an epic journey. so very well done! I wish I could do the same.
Hi David G, aw thanks. I rewatched it recently, and thought how lucky I was to have done that ride. I loved the Irish journeys I did last year, one in the sun, one rainwashed. Thanks for writing!
@@susannathornton No worries, if you are ever in need in Dublin, give me a shout.
First time here. Thank you for great content
Hello in Georgia! thank you for writing! glad you like the films 😎

Beautiful video - thank you for sharing - so glad you enjoyed your trip - I grew up in Sligo - a wonderful place to live ❤️ Happy travels! 🇮🇪🇬🇧
Hi Mary! How wonderful! I thought Sligo was fantastic. Thank you for writing!
I love watching your videos. I always dream of bike packing and camping here in my country Philippnes but I do not have a bike. I wish I could have that beautiful Brompton bike of yours. Always have a safe ride....
Hi Aylmer! Thank you for watching my films, and for the lovely comment. I really hope you can get a bike and make your dream come true
Hey you got lucky with the weather didn't yer? What an adventure!! Great show, thanks a mill...kindred spirit 🌞
Hi Razif! hope you are well! thanks for the lovely comment!
