Thank you so much for sharing this part of your trip. You continue to be an inspiration to me, and perhaps other women who travel alone by bicycle. Can’t wait for your next adventure,
Inspirational as ever. My wife had a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis just over three years ago. Her Brompton has given way to an eBike. Your videos are literally an inspiration to her to keep on pedalling. Long may it continue for both of you.
Hi Gareth! So sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis. Bravo to her for getting out on the bike still. Sounds great. That's inspiring me - it goes both ways! Thank you for writing! Wishing you both - and all of us - miles and miles of lovely roads! xx
Baking scones while wild camping!!! That’s got to be a first. As ever, Susanna, there’s this gentle determination in all you do. I hope you’re well and 2023 sees you (and us) benefiting from your truly magical videos.
Hay Susanna really enjoying your films thank you so much for sharing. I have a Brompton myself and am hoping to do a packing trip later this year. Was very inspired by your trip across Ireland.
I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy your videos. The simplicity of your travels and the enjoyment that they provide is palpable. You have encouraged me to go on many a bike packing trip this year. I enjoy your camping segments as much as the biking . The meals you cook motivate me to be more creative in my own camping experience- but I must admit I’ve got a long way to go to match you! As always thanks for sharing.
Thanks again Susanna .God Bless you . Great idea with scones .You were lucky with the weather ,it looked like there had been plenty of rain just before you got there to pitch your tent .❤
Your little films are so uplifting and enjoyable Susanna, thank you so much for continuing to share them with us. The scones scene - genius! Bless you. 🥰
Hello Susanna, Well, I have now caught up on your most Brompton adventures... My friend lives in STONE in Staffordshire and is married to one of the Swinnerton girls... I was there a few weeks ago, some lovely countryside around where they live. Keep up all the good work you are doing on your recovery and I look forward to watching some more Brompton adventure with you. Take care. Paul,,
Hi there! Have been waiting for your upload 😃And here we are, knowing that you are done with your chemo ❤❤😊💪💪💪💪💪 and I’m just SO glad. As usual, thanks for being us with you along your the lovely ride ;)
That was a fantastic adventure Susanna and welldone for getting out in the cold weather. I never thought to use my Trangia as an oven but seeing how successful yours wwork I'll have to give it a try:) Happy New Year Sandy
Hi Sandy! Thank you for the lovely message! Congrats on becoming a Grandpa by the way! About the scones, I got the idea from a swedish outdoor cook book that my husband (who is swedish) gave me. People on here have kindly suggetsed other things eg welsh cakes and damper bread that can be baked on a Trangia (I didn't know what damper bread was so I looked it up and it looks lovely, Australia soda bread), so I am tempted to try baking some other things too now, it was brilliant on that cold day having hot fresh bread outdoors (well sort of bread). Anyway, thank you for watching and Happy New Year to you too!!
Hot scones (Mmmmmmm my favorite pastry) and hot coffee, in front of a beautiful landscape, after filling your lungs with fresh air, I call it... Happiness! And you seem to me, dear Susanna, really good and fit. This bodes well for this new year that I wish you the happiest. By the way, you use the same lantern as me; It also illuminates and reduces the moisture of the tent. Thank you for the trip. 🤗
Hi Rogberube! aw you put it so nicely... Yes! Happiness! Ahh! Oh that is great that you find that the little UCO lantern also helps with condensation. I read about that aspect of it, good to know that you find it works. So cute aren't they haha. I love mine. I was also glad about the warmth from it, I mean one candle is not much, but I felt that it did make a difference. Actually I have since bought the little reflector brim thing, that you can clip onto the lantern, cos I found it hard to read by the light of the lantern as it is. It seems the brim might mean I can sit and read which would be just so cosy and lovely wouldn't it ahhh! Looking forward to getting out again! Thank you for writing! Happy New Year!
Susanna, I see The Great British Baking Show in your future! Another lovely winters trip; as a Florida boy I have to bundle up like you when the temperature here drops below 50F. Glad to see that your strength is returning, it is important to keep our minds as well as our bodies in top shape. Happy New Year. Peter Forde
That was very nice Susanna. You are an inspiration in many ways. I always enjoy your comments when you are looking for a place to pitch your tent. Love the scones and your little lamp. I hope you can make more videos soon .... ( no pressure... haha) Thank you very very much .
Morning Susanna: I just had a bowl of porridge with cardamom and a splash of Half and Half for my breakfast as I enjoyed watching your Autumn wild camp adventure from a year ago. It's 14 December 2024 in Seattle, WA and it's wet and rainy outdoors while I'm cozy indoors. It's always fun to follow your adventures to various places and see where your wild campsites are nested in fields, in a copse of trees, or near a beach. Your scones with butter and jam looked absolutely delicious! I may go to Cafe Arta later and buy one of their scones to go and enjoy at home. Cheerio! 🚴🥐⛺
Hello Jenny! oh that sounds nice there, having your breakfast! hope you had a nice rest of the day. Cafe Arta looks good! I just looked it up! Thank you for watching, glad you like the films!! next one coming soon!
It is making my day, watching, listening, imagining, even planning!? Thank you so much for not only being who you are but for sharing... these adventures, ways of living, the beautiful countryside, smiles, spirit and strength in the best of ways. An amazing and happy new year to you and all...
Blithe Spirit indeed! So pleased to see and hear you’re on the mend ❤. You seem to have a knack in finding great little camping spots tucked into the edges of fields.
Haha thanks platypushatstand! yeh I thought it was the wrong way round, for the sun etc, but it was a great cosy spot, actually sunrise was cloudy so not very exciting, and I got that nice sunset straight from the tent door
What a beautiful and inspiring video! Its wonderful that you're feeling stronger and healthier, and were physically up for this adventure, your exercise regime is working! Your wonderful videography captured the natural beauty and peacefulness of where you travelled, and once again you found an idyllic camping spot. Your scones looked delicious and I don't doubt that all of your viewers wished they could have joined you in sampling one, hot, with melting butter! Your videos remind us that there's unequalled peace and natural beauty to be enjoyed if we just take the time to make it happen! Thank you for taking the time to record, edit and share, its hugely appreciated.
Another fantastic adventure. Thanks for introducing me to another relatively unknown part of our lovely country. And I’m definitely pinching that Trangia oven idea! Genius! Perfect happiness, sitting in the corner of a field eating scones and drinking coffee. Can’t think of anything better!
Hi Lynne! yeh those scones were soooo nice. Hot! just brilliant. Smelled so good too! Actually nice people have written comments with loads of other ideas for other things you can bake on a trangia, Australian damper bread, welsh scones, cheese scones etc, so I am going to try some other things I think... exciting! haha. Happy New Year!!
@@susannathornton Happy New Year to you too, and 🤞you keep in good health now the chemo is done. I think I’m going to try sourdough bread rolls. I often take a frozen lump of my dough away with me, but so far it’s always been flat breads in the ridge monkey!
Another wonderful inspiring video from a mighty warrior. I wish you all the best for 2023 and a strong and steady recovery. Best wishes from Portugal!🇵🇹💪🚴♂️✌
Happy New Year Susanna! Every time I watch one of your films, I think to myself that I need to do proper cooking like you do when I'm camping. After this one, I've decided that I'm signing up for the Susanna Thornton Correspondence Course on Camping Cookery. The cheque's in the post. 😜
Ha! My day was made seeing another film from you, what a lovely way to end my day seeing your beautifully happy face again. The scones section was amazing, I tasted every bite along with you.
Wow, brilliant. Enjoying your video before knod off time. Have you seen the new GLine Brompton? I could see you on one. Deft video skills. Well done Susan. I
What a lovely new years present for me, seeing you out and about once more and making a new video. Thank you. Best wishes to you for 2023, and I hope you are able to enjoy lots more lovely adventures.
Thank you for yet another truly inspirational film. You make everything look so easy, yet achievable. I must dig out my Trangia and practice some recipes. Those scones look amazing. I just wish I could spend an afternoon cycling with you as you look for a good wild camp location, I would love to know what you are looking for and how you know when you have found it. I find it hard enough picking where to pitch on a camp site. I so look forward to your videos, that I check back every couple of days, just in case you have sneaked another one on. I am now eagerly awaiting the next one.
Hello Susana, enjoyed your tour again. Above all, I can understand your text under the video very well. I have stage 3 kidney failure myself. This means I can still move around without dialysis. I do have rheumatic complaints, but I want to move and it's good for me and helps me to assert myself in everyday life. So I wish you that your recovery will continue to improve. Happy New Year to you and many greetings, Kurt
Hi Kurt! Thanks for writing! Good that exercise is good for your condition, and that it helps you feel good as well. Same for me! I appreciate it so much actually, that the people treating me encourage me to be active, and talk about exercise not just about pills and chemicals etc. They even put me in contact with another patient, who was running and cycling through her treatment. That was brilliant of them, really grateful. Hope you are getting great support too, and hope you can move around and enjoy it, and protect your kidney health, and feel your best! Best wishes for 2023!
Susanna this video was so inspiring and so enjoyable. You are one of the few Bikepacking Bromptoneers on UA-cam who can engage with both the viewer and those that you meet on the way. Your manner is so relaxing and the videos so informative. And those wee scones !!! Ooh !! I was savouring every bite !! A wee bit ae jam would have completed the experience !!! Wishing you many more .... not the scones .... the tours !
Another great wee adventure. So relaxing to watch! I'm glad that you haven't been tempted to electric assistance yet. I like the scone cooking idea. Perhaps a wee bit of wire mesh to keep the scones off the pan would stop them burning. They looked really tasty though!
Hi Stuart! Ah yeh, a lot of people have mentioned ebikes... The thing is I know ebikes have brought some people who'd stopped cycling back into it, and that is great, and have brought altogether new people into cycling and that is great too, and ebikes are helping people keep on cycling when they cant manage otherwise, and that is fantastic too. And I've messed around on friends' ebikes for fun, and had fun, but I'm just not interested in using one for what I do. Dunno, but for me, I just want things simple, and even if it is harder there is kind of a simple pleasure in getting around by my own basic pedal power. Right now after all this chemo and whatnot, I'm building my strength back up through cycling and other stuff, and that's a huge pleasure in itself. And I want to keep on being able to ride a basic pushbike as long as possible... Plus of course when I am camping there's nowhere to charge up a battery, and I have lots of longer tours in mind, when I can hardly keep my phone and camera juiced up never mind a bike battery. So yeh, I am an acoustic cyclist, or whatever the expression is. And hope I am lucky enough to keep going like that for ages. Anyway, yeh, there you are... Oh and that is a nice little idea about the mesh for the scones! Anyway, I have gone on a bit haha! thanks for writing! Happy New Year!
@@susannathornton Totally agree with you! I like the simplicity and freedom of a manually assisted bicycle. If the hills get too tiring I just get off and push.
Thanks for the beautiful video! Thanks for taking us along on your journeys. I find them so beautiful and inspiring. I have been thinking about you and your treatment every time that I ride my Brompton. Take care! Your fully and speedy recovery is in my prayers. I am looking forward to the next video!
Hello Susanna, so good to see you on another trip in the beautiful countryside. I wish you all the Best for 2023, and look forward to you next video where ever that might take you. Regards. Andrew.
Susanna , Happy New Year, may it be filled with many more adventures. Thanks again for sharing your journey, both health and travel, as always enjoyed watching. Keep up the great work. Cheers Johno.
So glad this popped up in my suggestions. I could totally relate to your sense of excitement as you prepared to leave. Amazed by the amount of gear you packed on your Brompton. We'll worth the bulk of the Trangia for those scones. Made me want to pack the bike and get outside. Will certainly be checking out your other adventures. 😁
That was a well earned trip to the pub ! I have the same tea light lantern they’re great, I saw in your adventure more of my birth county of Staffordshire than I’ve seen, i was taken to live in Cumbria 56 years ago, keep those adventures coming 👍🏻
I haven't watched your video yet Susanna, but I know I'll enjoy it. Just wanted to be first (or one of the first) to wish you good health and much happiness for the New Year 😊
Hello, so glad to see you again for new adventure, j’adore comme tu apprécies les choses les plus simples et comme ta joie est communicative. Merci pour ce que tu donnes et partages, reste comme tu es, tu es formidable, tu me donnes la « pêche ».
Hello Chantal! thank you for the lovely comment! I didn't know what it meant actually tu me donnes la « pêche » and I wondered what you meant haha! So I looked it up. I read that it means to be full of energy and spirit, and feel in good shape, that sounds good! glad about that! Happy New Year!!
Hey Susanna. Nice one. Looked pretty wet in places. Interesting landscape. I’ve driven through that area many times but never seen those backwaters. Loved the scone scene. X
Hi Vin! thanks for watching! yeh wet! the road was completely flooded in places - which would have been nice to get into the film but unfortunately I just got lovely sound of the bike forging through water but no images as camera was facing the wrong way! Oh dear. Hey ho. Thanks for writing! Hope you are keeping well and wishing you a brilliant year in 2023!
@@susannathornton Thanks, Susanna. Yes, all good here and working up to all kinds of projects for this year. Looking forward to more of your vids as well so good luck with them and everything else. Take care. X
you can turn one of the pots into an oven, put some balls of foil in bottom of pot then put pan or a foil plate on it with the scones, its how i cook damper bread, lid needed
Hi Lezley! Oh that sounds good, using the pans like that. Do you find the bottom pan survives OK, BTW, when you heat it like that? Cos I read people saying that the pans can get too hot and melt or buckle or something, if you heat the pans with nothing in, which makes me scared of doing it. I wonder what your experience was, and how big is the flame when you bake like that, ie how you use the simmer ring. Anyway, thanks for writing! About damper bread, I just googled it as I didn't know what it was. Sounds brilliant. Want to try baking all these things now! 😋
@Susanna Thornton hi, well it wasn't the trangia pot but it was aluminium, this video might show you more, as the damper bread one is quite long winded lol ua-cam.com/video/ip79p2cKz-U/v-deo.html
Happy New Year Susanna!! It's good to know that you finished the chemo. This year will be a blessing for you and your whole family, you'll see. I loved the music, the sunsets, the sounds of the birds and the sound of the horse's footsteps and those breads looked delicious! Good that you are well and when you wake up remember that there will be no more chemo, now to continue enjoying the routes and if you dare, we are waiting for you here with great enthusiasm! Carmen desde PR😉😂😂🎉
I wasn’t expecting those scones to have worked! What a great idea, I think I might try it when I’m camping again. I’ve planned a few Brompton escapes from for this year, ranging from day trips to short cycle camps such as the Hadrian’s Wall route. Looking to begin in March with the first leg of the Pennine Cycle way Derby to Buxton, assuming that the trains aren’t cancelled.
Yeh I was also really surprised those scones worked..! They did look really sort of grey and greasy and kind of hopeless when I put them in the pan... Oh that's great that you've got a calendar of cycle camps planned, they sound fab.
Hi Dave! Thank you for watching! I was curious and googled you and so now have just been reading your book A to B and omg I love it! And your series for the Guardian, omg brilliant. How come I have not seen your work till today?? Anyway, so glad I know about you now!
@@susannathornton Hi Susanna - oh, thank you, that's lovely to hear and very kind of you. Great to hear that you've enjoyed the book. I only discovered your videos a month or two back, and have found them most inspiring, for many reasons. Not least the idea of achievable folding-bike mini adventures, and that you also take time to chat to people along the way. Anyway, great to make contact.
Hi Dave! Thanks for writing. Hope you are doing OK. Best wishes! Happy New Year! Cycling to Cardiff to see your daughter sounds great. I'm thinking of doing a ride through Wales too actually cos I have family in Wales too - North Wales in my case. I love doing trips like that, going places i want to go anyway, but travelling by bike and tent, sort of meaningful, slowing it down, enjoying the journey. Happy New Year to you too! Hope it is a really good one

Your manner is so relaxing and the videos so informative. And those wee scones !!! Ooh !! I was savouring every bite !! A wee bit ae jam would have completed the experience !!! Wishing you many more .... not the scones .... the tours !
Aw I know I forgot to put in any jam! It's not like me at all to forget jam haha. Must find the right size little pot for next time!
Love this one...... 😀 ❤️
Ablacım tebrik ediyorum. Güzel bi iş çıkarmışsın
Lovely peaceful sanctuary your content is . ( Yoda voice )
Haha I like the yoda voice! Thanks for watching Paul!

Susanna , Happy New Year, may it be filled with many more adventures.

Keep up the great work. Cheers Johno.
Hi Johno! Happy New Year to you too! thanks for watching, and thank you for your good wishes 😎
Nice! Happy New Year, Susanna 😀
Thanks so much for this late season tonic tour, it really was a wonderful gift. The days are getting longer now!
ATB in 2023. Brad
How inspirational! Thank you.
Oh thanks Kerry! glad you enjoyed the film!
Thanks for the message Dougy! glad you liked the film!
That was a well earned trip to the pub ! I have the same tea light lantern they’re great, I saw in your adventure more of my birth county of Staffordshire than I’ve seen, i was taken to live in Cumbria 56 years ago, keep those adventures coming 👍🏻
Susanna thank you for sharing
I haven't watched your video yet Susanna, but I know I'll enjoy it. Just wanted to be first (or one of the first) to wish you good health and much happiness for the New Year 😊
Thanks Clive! All the best to you too!
Bangin' Susanna! Thanks and happy new year!
Take care. X
Your husband must be so proud of you I don't know your name but total respect thank you so much excellent x
you can turn one of the pots into an oven, put some balls of foil in bottom of pot then put pan or a foil plate on it with the scones, its how i cook damper bread, lid needed
@@susannathornton oh and I think it's more over fire that the pots could melt
@@LezleysAdventures Thanks!!
That's great you ventured out in cold and pretty Fall weather, but you made it tasty with the scones and meal, and cozy with the tea light lantern. :)
Hi Carmen! Thanks for the super comment! Glad you liked the film. Happy New Year to you and all your cycling friends there too! 😁

Thanks for the video 🙏 cheers
Great video Susanna happy New Year
I wasn’t expecting those scones to have worked!
Wonderful video as always - thank you!
As always the purest of treats.
Thanks very much for another great video of a lovely trip 👍
Lovely to see you chuffed and happy with the countryside, your camping pitch and your scones, great adventure.
Wishing you a happy New Year Susanna and may 2023 be good to you. Thank you for continuing to upload videos they are great.
Inspiring, I must plot a cycle route to my daughter's in Cardiff.
Happy new year.
🌞
Glad to see you’re back on your cycle and managing cuisine in the Akto. All the best.
